huh, the fact that Frieza wanted that fight so much makes Goku's decision to go "I'm bored. You're boring me" even more devastating. (I know that's just the TFS dialogue, I just couldn't remember what he said in canon)
"I'm bored. You're boring me," is more or less what he said in canon. Just with more words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frieza's ki has bled out so much at this point that he no longer has any possible chance of winning. There is no more fight to be had here, so Goku tries to quit.
This moment ironically parallels an earlier point in the story, when Frieza decided he'd had his fun but this fight has run its course.
Tumblr media
In the earlier moment, Frieza became disinterested and decided he was done because Goku was unable to continue fighting him, on account of having burned out his body using the Kaioken x20 a moment before.
Tumblr media
During his six-day journey to Namek (where he found his tranquility), Goku had specifically been using gravity training to toughen up his body so he could withstand higher levels of Kaio-ken. That training paid off in the form of raising Goku's limit to x10, where it had previously been x3.
But when Goku, in desperation, attempted a x20 Kaio-ken Kamehameha against Frieza, it had the same effect on him as his x4 Kamehameha against Vegeta. Backed into a corner, Goku's ki was still willing but his body was shot; So he used his strength to begin preparing that colossal Genki-Dama/Spirit Bomb.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cut to this point later in the fight and now the shoe is on the other foot. It's Frieza who's flagging and unable to keep fighting - ironically because his body is willing but his ki is shot. This time it's Frieza who's desperate to keep the battle going, and Goku going, "Nah, man. We're done here."
And it's Frieza who's forced to resort to more desperate measures to keep the fight going, long after he's physically unable to sustain it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Frieza's desperate resort to kill Goku going about as poorly as Goku's desperate resort to kill Frieza.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not easy being the underdog.

Father’s Day Special!
Tumblr media
So due to my enhanced energy due to what I believe is stress management techniques from class and all of the awesomeness that has been going on for the past two-three days, I’m extending this as a special on this blog into Father’s/Uncle’s/Grandfather’s/Great Uncle’s Week and my muses will be allowed to answer any asks they get about their relationship with their fathers and father figures, and next week will go to Mother’s/Aunt’s/Grandmother’s/Great Aunt’s Week as that needs attention too.
So far, the characters that I have the most muse for at the moment are as follows: Duckworth, Dewey, Marshall, Fenton, Jim, Negaduck (Drake), Roxas, Hokey, Huckleberry, Claire, and Trish. You can ask the others too, but these will get the most attention.
Like this post if you want any ask in your inbox from one of these and reply to tell me who should ask your muse the question!

Here's my female Saiyan OC. I know she looks like Lightning Farron because she was the inspiration. Here Ling's bio. Saiyan name: Momato/Nion (the only thing I'm going to say about the two names is, it has to do something with the power of the Legendary Super Saiyan) Desire: To be the strongest female fighter, protect her step-sister, Kill Broly, learn Goku's martial arts secrets, and Android 18 Fear: Ghosts as her attacks can't hit them, and becoming like her father Broly. History: Daughter of Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan. Wanting to recreate the Saiyan race, with him as the king, Paragus "asked" a few scientists to reproduce a full blooded Saiyan child. Regardless who the mother was. Also to have the same potential of a half Saiyan. Having watched Earth from afar, saw how powerful Gohan can be. Too bad it's wasted on him. The scientists were successful after many failures, and Momato was born. Paragus was very pleased because she was born with the same power level as Broly when he was a baby. Before Paragus invited Vegeta to the New Planet Vegeta, put Momato in a Saiyan Pod with all the information of the Saiyan race and who her father was. Then sent her to Earth. The Pod landed in the icy mountains where it froze in the ice. No one found it until the AGE 983. The Pod was detected and realized a Saiyan baby was inside. A race to get that baby began, luckily the kind and loving Night family got to her first before she fell into the wrong hands. They raised as one of their own her and renamed her to Ling, her power level fell when she reached her first birthday. Ling dyed her hair pink to look more like her adopted family's, and after a life scaring incident had her eyes removed and changed with blue ones. Never wanting to be a Great Ape again. She kept her tail as it was a sign of her Saiyan heritage. Also, it holds the key for Super Saiyan 4. Ki Blast Techniques: Buster Shell Gigantic Omega Gigantic Meteor Kamehameha Burst Kamehameha Solar Kamehameha Special Beam Cannon Evil Explosion Light Grenade Gigantic Kamehameha x10 Gigantic Omega God Gigantic Meteor Strike Techniques: Super God Fist Super Dragon Flight Super Dragon Fist (a three-hit combo attack) Dragon Fist Meteor Crash Deadly Dance Accel Dance Other: Afterimage Super Explosive Wave Transformation: kaioken x3, x4, x10 and x 20 Great Ape Super Saiyan Legendary Super Saiyan Legendary Super Saiyan 2 Legendary Super Saiyan 3 Golden Great Ape Legendary Super Saiyan 4 Super Saiyan Cyan/ Super Saiyan God Legendary Super Saiyan (Exclusive form for Ling. my long run today was pretty wild.
people were really out there trying to pass me.
about 4 miles in, the first dude passed me and i thought to myself,
“man, i was just out here running and trying to have a good time, but now i gotta show you whats what.”
so i went kaioken x1, i sped up to his pace, and kept up with him for about half a mile and then turned it up a notch and just as i was passing him again, he veered off around a corner. yea, that’s what i thought.
about 8 miles in, another dude passed me. i was thinking “really? twice in a single run?!” once again, i kicked it up to level 1 kaioken and kept up with this guy for about a mile. we got to a section of my normal path that is where runners are made or broken. its about a mile’s worth of an uphill run; my specialty.
so once again i was keeping pace with this dude, but i saw him faltering...the hill was breaking him. but it wasnt breaking me! so just as i began to kick it into kaioken x2 (the speed boost i use when i want to show off, but not burn myself out), a third person FLEW past me and then flew past the other dude.
it looked like a young girl, maybe a teenager. and she was fast!
i quickly passed the dude because i wanted to test myself against this new opponent. i activated kaioken x3 and really kicked up my pace on this hill. the speed i was running at wasn’t sustainable for such a long period of time on a hill like that, but i’m a fool and i don’t like being passed by anyone.
i was gaining a bit of ground on this new challenger, but near the top of the hill i felt myself running out of juice. i couldnt hold my power-up for much longer, my energy was dropping fast...but i knew that the hill was almost at and end..if i could make it, maybe i could finally pass this person.
i made it over the hill and that’s when i knew i had my chance. when most people finish running a hill, they slow down to recover a bit, but not me, not now! im an utter buffoon! i kept up my ridiculous pace even though i was running on fumes! and just as i was catching up to pass this young warrior...she veered off down a different street that isn’t part of my path, so the battle was left unfinished.
for the next mile and a half i went back down to my regular power level and i was fine, but on my final mile, thats when my constant abuse of my own running power boosts started to take its toll and my legs started to reject what i was doing.
luckily i made it home okay and am now laying down absolutely exhausted and sore wondering how one day could have so many powerful opponents appear before me.

2/18 Drawn for my #DragonOnUp pieces. Here’s the process of when I remembered to take pictures. The famous Kaio-Ken x3 squat(so much muscle definition!!), this was completed with the aid of a few references. Maybe SSJ Goku or Near End DB Goku will be next. All I know is I’m slowly getting into the swing of things again. Done on 110 card stock, with a 2H staedler pencil. ~Hero #anime #manga #fanart #myart #mystyle #dragonball #dragonballz #dragonballsuper #kaioken #squats #Goku #ultrainstinct #supersaiyan #vegeta #drawing #art #stepbystep #instagood #instalike #instalove #instagram #pic #picoftheday #instapic

Rebalancing DBZ Power Levels
One of the most confusing things for dragging people truly uninterested, or somehow unexposed, to Dragon Ball (Z/GT/Super) is the concept of power levels and how scaling works. In short: it doesn’t and broke by the time Goku first faced Vegeta.
Radditz never stated his own power but taking everyone’s original dialog from the manga into account it was a bit over 1,000. He saw that Goku, who had a power level of ~400, could produce a >900 Kamehameha and the Makankōsappō exceeded 1,300 and was able to pierce him despite him obviously knowing it was coming and struggling. That means a ~400 character could attack someone at least three times their power level push through their Ki’s defensive qualities if they have time to produce an appropriate attack.
When Vegeta left Earth, his power level at least 15,000. Goku died with a power level barely over 400 and after training with a “god” on a very high gravity “planet” for most of a year with the intention of raising him up so that a multiplier could give him a chance to put down that ~15,000 power level he came out with approximately 8,000. That’s an increase of nearly 20 times. Note this amount. It’s not as high as later jumps but dwarfs previous jumps by an amount that makes “exponential” sound like a laughable understatement. (We know that Goku’s power level went from ~2 as an infant to scale from 10 to 100 throughout his journey learning martial arts and having Ki-using masters teaching him. Then ballooning with the Ultra Divine Water and Popo/Kami’s training.)
When Vegeta leaves Earth and recovers, Kiwi, who thought he around 18,000, reads Vegeta’s PL as 24,000 and freaks out. So do Zarbon and Dodoria as their power levels all sit below that. Kiwi stated that they were roughly the same power before. Meaning that Vegeta gaining a ~33% increase in power was unheard of and worth treating as a potential disaster. Keep that in mind: After some 20-30 years in Freeza’s “care” no one ever noticed Vegeta’s power jump by such an amount and it wasn’t something anyone could explain.
After Zarbon Vegeta’s power level jumps to 30,000. About 25% rather than 33%. Once again, no one expected it and it was disastrous. When Goku comes up it’s estimated that his power level is probably 85,000. Ginyu specifically doesn’t use his scouter and just assumes this. Then when Goku uses Kaioken he reads the infamous 180,000 number.
Now we get to the weird part. Nail, a Namekian who hasn’t done anything this whole time gets scouted by Freeza at 42,000. That means he could have single-handedly killed everyone in Freeza’s army below the Ginyu force and potentially taken out a few of them. Freeza states that his own power level sits at exactly 530,000. Then when Second Form Freeza comes out he states that he believes it is over 1,000,000. (Manga quote not anime.) Final Form Freeza states that he’s only using half his power when he starts the fight with Goku and Goku specifically thinks “I’ll have to use Kaioken x20 to do anything to him at half his strength. Ignoring the later released power levels from the Data Books as with all data books those are unreliable at best, and outright made up by third-party editors at worst, we have no idea how strong Final Form Freeza actually was at full power. The only question is: Does Kaioken multiply by number? Well no, it can’t. Because Goku uses Kaioken (x1) when fighting Vegeta and then tries x2 and x3 and ultimately x4. What would x1 even do? This is explained away years later as “uh...x1.5″ outside the manga but it’s well past the point of plot-breaking.
That means, Goku was having to multiply himself by at least 20, to hurt Freeza momentarily when Freeza was avoiding being too strong to have fun. That means Freeza was either the 40-50 million the Data Books state or... the numbers stop adding up. And that’s the point. DBZ power levels ceased being managed with any intention of keeping it consistent long before Freeza and they simply broke on him.
I’m going to make an attempt to recreate the power level scaling alongside a “What If” re-write of the story to keep it more in line. As we saw with many fights, even Radditz right from the get-go, Power Levels were never really a reliable way to measure someone’s potential until you saw them using an exhaustive amount of power on a single ability. I’d like to scale everything back down and pull in even that multiplier so that numbers grow less quickly and remove the concept of “that guy’s power level may be less than twice yours but it’s greater than every power level on earth except yours to the power of 10.”

Me: Scout... you just done f*cked up. and like garnet said... mess with one of us... *I pull out my darkhearts, the gems summon their weapons, and ect.* You mess with all of us.
AAK Chara, somehow in SCOUT'S mind: [* Smells like... Death.]
(Phew, this will be long...)
*First, Papyrus and blueberry use their blue attacks, turning scout's SOUL blue, then, Garnet uppercuts Scout, combo'd by amethyst jumping up, wrapping scout with her whip, and throwing her to AAK Sans, who uses blue bones, in which, scout takes quick and rapid damage, then bounces off the wall, to luigi, who uppercuts him back up, where goku rapidly punches him in mid-air, then i jump up and slash him rapidly with my darkhearts, we both strike at once, to pearl, who uses the handle of her spear, to hit scout gracefully down, then sonic runs in, and homing attacks scout, then gets burned by flare, frozen by frost, shell spun attacked by bowser, got a turnip thrown at him by peach, sending him in the correct direction, and then, finally, finished off by a spirit bomb being charged the whole time by mario, in a determination + super saiyan blue + kaioken x3 form, who throws it down at scout, finishing him off, all while the theme provided is playing*
*he gets up,somehow still alive, with only one HP*
Scout: Urgh...that hurt...what to do...
???: FUS...RO DAH! *the unrelenting force shout suddenly comes out of nowhere, and blows everyone, except scout, away*

one thing i notice very clearly about that scene where vegeta is smacking recoome around is how creative the camera angles are. it’s never really all that static and is all over the place to show you the action from different angles. every shot in this little scene has really good direction.
i especially love the shot where vegeta throws recoome and it seems like a first person view at first as the camera flies by a bunch of trees and hills, but then recoome’s body flies past the it and hits a mountain. it’s such a cool looking shot.
it also has my favorite power-up scene next to maybe goku’s first kaioken x3. vegeta looks unstable like he’s about to just freakin’ explode and everything is shaking so wildly around him with dust and dirt and all sorts of crap flying all over the place. it’s really sick.
even when he fires off his proto-final flash move the angle is different like even the camera got knocked off balance by his power.
very well directed scene.
honestly, that’s what’s missing from super a lot of the time. dbz had a limited animation budget, but they got really creative to make that shit work for them. they had some real artistic flair with scenes like recoome vs vegeta because it’s not even something that required a ton of fancy animation.
it’s honestly why i struggle so hard to remember most of the fights in db super and why i find them so unmemorable.
super has a lot, and i mean a lot, of static shots in their fights which makes everything far more boring and unmemorable to watch. there’s a couple of good ones that i remember clearly, specifically freeza and goku vs jiren at the very end, gohan and piccolo vs the nameks, caulifla/kale vs goku (even the kefla fight in the next episode isnt that good) and this small moment between ss blue vegito and zamasu where it like...it does this triple zoom on their faces as they charge each other. it just looks cool as hell.
i still remember a lot of the fights from dragon ball and dbz pretty clearly in my mind and with original dragon ball, i haven’t watched that series in YEARS. it could also be that super suffers from an oversaturation of fight scenes which is a weird thing to say, but the ToP was a billion different bad fights, so stuff just gets lost in the jumble

okay, so i finished world’s strongest
not great at all.
in fact, all it is is a retold vegeta saga story, except worse.
they somehow made doctor willow vegeta level strength.  goku used kaioken x3 to overwhelm him (just like against vegeta), then kaioken times 4 with the kamehameha to win a beam struggle (just like against vegeta), then started gathering energy for the spirit bomb but gets hit before he can use it (JUST LIKE AGAINST VEGETA), and then krillin, piccolo and gohan have to distract willow so goku can finally use the spirit bomb to win (just. like. against. vegeta.).
it was just kinda wack.
a couple things ive noticed upon rewatching these old films.  the meme that krillin being a huge jobber i think comes almost entirely from these movies, because his sole role in this films is to get owned in a comedic way and do almost nothing of note.  for example, in this film, while goku is trying to ready the spirit bomb again, piccolo and gohan get this “badass” moment where they both use their full power and land a hit on willow.  then they show krillin jumping in to also get a hit, but he just gets smacked away before doing anything.  and that really basically sums up his entire role in this movie.  he doesnt fight.  he doesnt do much of anything.
and it was the same thing in dead zone.
like...MASTER ROSHI got to fight and held himself well, but krillin, who has already been established to be significantly stronger than roshi especially since the timeline for this has to be around the saiyan saga, just gets owned all the time?  thats bullshit.
secondly, the whole “piccolo is gohan’s dad” meme thing has to come from these movies because they push that relationship so hard that it’s kind of ridiculous.  gohan is actually pretty obnoxious in this movie and every other line out of his mouth is “mr piccolo!”  they get a bunch of team up moments together as well. these movies did more to push that ridiculous narrative than the actual show did.
piccolo also gets jobbed out hard at the beginning of these movies and its pretty hilarious.

theres a sound effect in dbz that i really like when someone powers up and their muscles start growing or when one character grabs another character in like a claw grip and squeezes really hard.
its like this deep squish/stretch sound. i remember it like when piccolo rips his own arm off or nail gets his arm ripped off or when goku used kaioken x3 for the first time
youtube
its such a gnarly and kinda gross sound.
