I want to be sentimental about the bracelet culture in the Käärijä fandom, okay here it goes:
I love how we simply give bracelets, to friends we know and to people we've just met. It's such a lovely, small gesture of friendship and community. There is no trade, people are not expecting you to give them a bracelet when they give you one, it's giving for the joy of giving.
To me these bracelets are physical manifestation of the people I've met and connections I've built in this fandom. It makes me feel like I belong.

KARABINER ELEMENTS SECURITY FOR MAC OS
KARABINER ELEMENTS SECURITY INSTALL
KARABINER ELEMENTS SECURITY CODE
KARABINER ELEMENTS SECURITY ZIP
KARABINER ELEMENTS SECURITY DOWNLOAD
If it's neither open nor hidden, it opens the app. If it's not being displayed, but it's open, it navigates the app. As you can tell, the function checks to see if the app is open and being displayed. To open any app with your own shortcut, you can add the function below to your lua file. I don’t see why this can’t work for more monitors if you edit accordingly. Now, to switch between multiple monitors, all you have to do is use Caps Lock 1, 2, 3 respectively. Hs.hotkey.bind(hyper, "1", moveWindowToDisplay(1)) Make sure you replace the key combination with our hyper key combination. You could also place our hyper key definition at the top of the lua file so that you can just call hyper in all other functions instead of writing the key combination. Local hyper =, "3", moveWindowToDisplay(3))
KARABINER ELEMENTS SECURITY CODE
Now you need to configure Hammerspoon in order to load this spoon in ~/.hammerspoon/Spoons/MiroWindowsManager.spoon adding the following snippet of code in your a file:įor our set up, you can change the local hyper key variable to our hyper combination:.
KARABINER ELEMENTS SECURITY ZIP
Extract the zip file, containing MiroWindowsManager.spoon in ~/.hammerspoon/Spoons.
Instructions for installing directly from the repo are below.
KARABINER ELEMENTS SECURITY DOWNLOAD
If you’d like to write your own, you can see the documentation and start with your hello world here.įor my window management, I’m using “MiroWindowsManager” which can download from it's repo here. This is a lua script where you can write your own scripts or use it to connect to one of the many open source configurations available here. Open Hammerspoon and right click on the icon to open the configuration file. When you press Caps Lock, you should see your four key combination instead of the Caps Lock key. Verify that it’s working properly by opening Karabiner-Event-Viewer. Once downloaded, enable the Change Caps Lock to command+control+option+shift complex modification. Download the Change Caps Lock key(rev4) option. You’ll be redirected to the karabiner complex modifications page, where you can choose from a long list of combinations. Open Karabiner element and under complex modifications, select the option to import more from the internet. With the combination of hammerspoon and karabiner, we can do it with two simple keys. Most shortcut apps require you to press 3 or 4 keys each to resize windows and move between monitors.
KARABINER ELEMENTS SECURITY INSTALL
If you just install it, hammerspoon will do nothing, but what makes it so powerful is that you can write your own lua scripts or use one that has been written by the great open source community. The main reason I started using it is because I wanted a simple way to resize windows and move them between multiple monitors.
KARABINER ELEMENTS SECURITY FOR MAC OS
Hammerspoon is a desktop automation tool for mac os and it job is to serve as the intermediary between the operating system and a Lua scripting engine, allowing you to interact with multiple mac os APIs. Make sure to allow karabiner_grabber and karabiner_observer.įor detailed installation instructions, you can see the installation docs here This can be allowed in Security and Privacy. You will be prompted to allow apps by the developer, and after installation is complete, you will be prompted for input monitoring permission. We can install Karabiner elements by running: If you quit Karabiner elements, your Caps Lock key will return to it's normal state. You can also customizer it to another key after trying this out. We're mapping it to the Caps Lock key because it’s use is limited as you can achieve the same functionality by holding down the shift key. Most developerers wouldn’t expect you to press five keys to run a shortcut. We use this four key combination because it is unlikely to interfere with existing shortcuts. This type of key combination is usually referred to as the “hyper key”. We’re going to be mapping the Caps Lock to command+control+option+shift. We will be taking advantage of this ability to change the behavior of the Caps Lock key. Karabiner Elements allows you to customize normal key behavior, and it’s complex modifications allow you to map multiple key combinations into one key. When I learned about the Karabiner Elements and Hammerspoon combo, I knew I needed to set it up, but my initial set up process ended up taking much longer than a simple installation, so I decided to outline the steps here in case this helps anyone. Do you ever find yourself wishing you could open your favorite mac os applications with a keyboard shortcut? Tired of pressing 3 to 4 keys to manage windows? Need to easily move a window to another monitor? Well, stop wishing because I’m gonna teach you how you can make this simple.Īs a keyboard shortcut lover, I’ve always enjoyed sharing my favorite shortcuts, and I’m always on the lookout for new ones.

Locking number lock karabiner elements
Tumblr media
#LOCKING NUMBER LOCK KARABINER ELEMENTS HOW TO#
You can always turn the rule off to toggle Caps Lock in the future, but this particular rule doesn’t have a way to use the key in any other way. You’ll want to make sure Caps Lock is turned off before adding the rule, or you’ll be stuck YELLING FOREVER. Just click “+ Enable” next to “Change caps_lock to command+control+option+shift” to add the rule to Karabiner. But one of the examples it comes with is exactly what we’re trying to do, so you don’t have to do any additional setup. Usually, with Karabiner, you’ll have to edit the JSON for your new rule and add it manually. Under the “Complex Modifications” tab, add a new rule with the button at the bottom. Download and install the app, and open the preferences. The app we’ll use to rebind Caps Lock is Karabiner, a free keyboard remapping tool for macOS.
#LOCKING NUMBER LOCK KARABINER ELEMENTS HOW TO#
RELATED: How to Get Your Mac's Esc Key Back by Remapping Caps Lock You can also natively remap the Caps Lock key to Escape (or any other modifier key), but this doesn’t add any extra functionality it just relocates the key. You can remap Caps Lock to an extra function key, like the F13-20 keys, but it may not work as a hotkey in every app. This does mean you’ll lose out on combinations such as Caps Lock+Command, but it should work simply enough with any other alphanumeric key. Since this is such an absurd combination, no app is going to require you to press every one of them for a hotkey, and there should be no interference. Now, there’s no way to emulate an extra modifier key properly, so for compatibility reasons, a better way to get this functionality is to remap Caps Lock to act like you’re pressing the Shift, Control, Option, and Command keys at the same time. For example, the hotkey in macOS to take a screenshot of a selection is Shift+Command+5, but you could rebind it to Caps+S. If there’s an overly complicated shortcut that’s bugging you, you can rebind it in macOS’s keyboard settings to make it easier to press. You can also rebind existing shortcuts to use Caps Lock.

#Karabiner elements .90.89 pro
Thanks for creating an awesome key switcher application for OSX / macOS – Karabiner Elements for a fresh Karabiner Elements logotype, as submitted in this pull request for creating an amazing, easy to use Alfred Workflow creation framework – Alfred-Workflow. When I type something and I watch the Karabiner EventViewer. I have absolutely no idea what is causing this exactly, because as I stated, it seems to be starting also when idling.
#Karabiner elements .90.89 pro
My keyboard is GMMK Pro on MacBook Pro 16' M1 Max. You can freely edit settings of each profile after switching to it Karabiner Elements causes a massive typing lag when some key is pressed or after some time e.g. Keprofile - lists your profiles then ENTER to switch to one Note that after you switch to a different profile, you can adjust its settings inside Karabiner Elements preferences window, save them and it'll all work seamlessly the workflow only changes selected: true|false attribute, nothing else. Once you select a profile you want to switch to, hit ENTER and the workflow script will edit your karabiner.json file so that the selected profile becomes active.Type keprofile (you can change this if you like), to fetch your profiles defined in karabiner.json and list them in Alfred.Enter the code below: This product hasn't received any reviews yet. Nice key chain with karabiner and woven label length: app. is in conformity with Directive dispositions 89/686/CEE. Karabiner Elements listens for changes in karabiner.json config file, and there is a setting that specifies which profile is currently active – selected: true. 51.83 (You save 0.96) SKU: 130040048 Free Shipping : Colour: Quantity: Product Description. Breaking strength for unlinked element: > 1500 daN Screwgate Karabiner ML00 Raw material: Galvanised steel 18mm Opening. This is an important features for people that regularly switch between internal / Apple keyboard and an external USB one, which usually have different layout, hence the need for 2+ profiles. Although, as of now, you can define multiple profiles in the ~/.config/karabiner/karabiner.json file, but you can't switch between them easily. The fresh macOS Sierra rewrite of the original Karabiner, the Karabiner Elements qietly supports multiple profiles, which has been one of the core features, historically speaking.

Amestris Military Real world Influence
This is the third of my series of long posts about the Amestrian Military. This is the post for the history nerds. There are plenty of real world references in Fullmetal Alchemist, especially pertaining to the first half of the 20th century. While Amestris and its military have often been compared to Nazi Germany (especially when it comes to the anime), the references in the manga are very diverse. Disclaimer, this is by no means an exhaustive list, there are too many for me to cover in one post, and I'm not a historian. So let me know if there's any reference I might have missed or if I got something wrong!
To see the rest of this meta series check out the Main Post..
Names
Probably the easiest reference to the real world is in the names of the military personnel. Almost all of them are named after military vehicles and equipment, mainly from World War II. Some examples:
Roy Mustang — P-51 Mustang (USA WW2 aircraft)
Riza Hawkeye & Grumman — Northrop Hawkeye E-2 Grumman (USA 60s aircraft)
Maes Hughes — Hughes aircraft series (USA aircraft company)
Black Hayate — Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate (Japanese WW2 aircraft)
Jean Havoc & Henry Douglas— Douglas A-20 Havoc (USA WW2 aircraft)
Heymans Breda — Breda M37 (Italy WW2 Machine gun) or HMS Breda (UK WW2 Yacht)
Kain Fuery — Hawker Fury (UK 30s aircraft)
Vato Falman — Farman aircrafts series (French aircraft company)
Armstrong Family — Armstrong Whitworth Whitley (UK WW2 aircraft)
Weapons and equipment
The weapons used by the military are also based on real world weaponry. Arakawa herself admitted to using references for weapons as well as for the vehicles.[1] Not all of them are a direct copy of a historical weapon, but all of them are at least inspired by one or more of them.
Pistol — Colt M1911A1 (USA 1924)
Tumblr media
Hawkeye's pistol. [1]

Colt M1911 & M1911A
Rifle — Mauser Karabiner 98k (Germany WW2)

Hand grenade — Stielhandgranate M24 aka the potato mashers (Germany WW2)

Briggs' Tank
The Briggs' tank isn’t modeled directly after any specific tank, and rather takes inspiration from different WW1 to WW2 tanks. The manga and Brotherhood tanks take after different inspirations, with Brotherhood being more German coded than the manga tank. There's an excellent article in the tanks encyclopedia analyzing the Fullmetal Alchemist tanks if anyone's interested.
Military Cars —
We see a few military cars throughout the story. Once again the cars we see in the manga and Brotherhood are quite different, and they appear to be based on models from the late 1910s to the late 1930s.
The manga’s standard issued military car looks at least partially inspired by the American Ford model A of 1927.
Tumblr media
Mustang's military car(manga).[2]

The Brotherhood art sketches have two different drawings of military cars. The first one, the one we see Mustang use, is based on the French Citroën traction avant 11CV of 1935.
Tumblr media

The second car seems to be inspired by the Italian Fiat Tipo 5 of the 1910s. Perhaps even inspired by one of the American made Fiat models.

Ranks and insignias
With the exception of the Führer-President, the Amestrian military ranks appear to be a mix of the USA WW2 officer ranks:
General,
Lt. General,
Major General,
Brigadier General,
Colonel,
Lt. Colonel,
Major,
Captain,
1st Lieutenant,
2nd lieutenant;
As well as the Imperial Japan NCO ranks:
Warrant officer (Special Sergeant Major),
Master Sergeant,
Sergeant,
Corporal.
The history of the Imperial Japan  Warrant Officer rank is a bit confusing and complicated. In the 79 years that the Empire lasted, the Warrant Officer rank saw a lot of changes, being its own category at times, a Senior NCO at others.  The NCO Warrant Officers seem to have been specialized Sergeant Majors (also translated as Master Sergeant) that basically functioned as the most senior of the NCO ranks. Aside from this the one modern country, I could find, that has Warrant Officers as NCO is Malaysia.
The rank of Führer-President (大総統 - Daisōtō in Japanese) replaces the rank of General of the army in the USA officer classification. While the English translation is a direct reference to Nazi Germany, the Japanese word is a lot more nuanced.
The word Daisōtō actually refers to the president of the 1912-1924 Republic of China, and if you Google it, all you will get is images of Bradley himself. The term used for “Führer” is 総統 (Sōtō), without the 大 (Dai) which is instead used in the word president 大統領 (Daitōryō), this is probably the inspiration for the Führer-president title of the official English translation.
However, Sōtō isn't used to refer just to Nazi Germany's Führer, but rather to any fascist associated head of state. As such Germany's Sōtō is the Fuhrer, but Italy's Sōtō is the Duce (Mussolini).
The effect is technically the same (you still think of Hitler and fascism), but the Japanese word is not a direct translation of Führer, nor a direct reference to Nazi Germany, it's more subtle than the English translation. I imagine Führer was used in English (in absence of a more subtle unifying word) as it is more recognizable to the English speaker than other fascist titles like: Duce, Caudillo, Generalísimo, etc.
The WW2 imperial Japan ranks also included superior private, first class private, and second class private, but they were their own class, called soldiers, below the NCO ranks, and were mainly composed of men serving their conscripted time. This might explain their absence in the Amestrian official ranks as Amestris doesn't seem to have conscription.
The rank insignias themselves are pretty much a copy of the imperial Japan ones.

Uniform
In terms of the uniform there's not one single reference or perfect match for the design, but the closest to it is probably the WW1 French infantry uniform.
Tumblr media
Amestris military uniform. [1]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Early WW1 French uniform
Tumblr media
Late WW1 French uniform
Aside from the color of the French uniform, the long skirt, flaps and boots are very similar to the Amestrian uniform.
The Amestrian short jacket itself seems to be inspired by the WW2 USA Ike jacket.
Tumblr media
USA WW2 Ike jacket.
Furthermore the white lining of the Amestrian uniform reminds me of the Imperial Japan formal uniform jacket, which is itself Prussian and French inspired.
Tumblr media
Imperial Japan Major General formal uniform.
The Briggs uniform is very much WWII winter gear inspired.
Tumblr media
Briggs uniform.[3]
Tumblr media
Soviet WW2 winter uniform
Tumblr media
Finnish WWII sniper.
Out of every uniform variation, the one most German coded is, to no one's surprise, the Führer-president’s. His trench coat looks similar to the WW1 Prussian one.
Tumblr media
Bradley in uniform.
Tumblr media
WW1 Prussian soldiers.
In general the uniform has a very World War I vibe to it, down to the impractical, decorative parts of it like the skirt. This is an uniform that obviously predates modern warfare, very apt for the time period the story is “set on”. This makes an interesting contrast with the weaponry which seem to be mostly World War II inspired.
Other references
Ishval war of extermination
First of all trigger warning for genocide and human experimentation. Just skip this section if you're sensible to these topics.
Just like the Ishvalan are an amalgamation of many cultures and ethnicity, the Ishvalan civil war seems to reference multiple conflicts and events.
Plenty of comparisons have been made with the Jewish genocide in the hands of the Nazi (and the 03 anime leans especially hard on this). There are also similarities with the Herero war and genocide at the hand of the German empire which just like the Ishval Civil war ended in 1908. Another possible reference is the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Ottoman empire, which also involved a minority living at the border of a nation the country was at war with and being suspected of colluding with the enemy. Both the Armenian and the Ishvalan soldiers serving in the army were dismissed, incarcerated, and eventually executed.
Another more clear cut reference made in the Ishval civil war is Mustang's and Knox’s experimentation. This would be a reference to the horrendous experiments done by both the Nazi and Japan's infamous unit 731. Both which included burning people to test treatments and the limits of the human body.
I am sorry to end up on such a hard note, but I think it's best we move on to other — less traumatic — topics.

Guardian Angel
Just as you were unpacking your gear at the bottom of the mountain you were about to climb; your smart watch told you that Loki - your boyfriend was calling you. With a smile, you adjusted the AirPod in your ear and accepted the call. "Hi baby." "Hello, darling. I am not disturbing you, am I?" You giggled, shaking your head to yourself, as you checked the ropes and karabiner for security. Climbing was your big passion. You loved the adrenaline rush of climbing up a mountain and the feeling of happiness and freedom, whenever you reached the top. Sure, it was a dangerous hobby as well. Every step had to be the right one. But this never ever frightened you or held you back, oh no... You were an expert; having learned this back when you were a child. Your father was a climber as well, so... He taught you, of course, sharing your passion.
"Nah, you never disturb, Lokes. Though, I'm about to climb now, so... But we can just continue to talk." You couldn't see Loki's frowning, but you were certain he was. "Are you sure, my love? You have to concentrate. I don't want to distract you." "You won't," you said with a small huff, climbing the first foot. "I wouldn't say I'm used to this, since we never talked before while climbing, but I'm an expert. I can handle this." That's what you thought. Well, you were going to eat your words a few minutes later…
Everything seemed to work just fine - until exactly that happened, what Loki had been 'afraid' of. Distraction, causing you to lose quite a bit of your focus and concentration - and that in return, caused you to make a fatal mistake...
"Aww, I miss you, too, baby. Feels like we haven't seen each other in years." Loki chuckled. "Decades, my love, decades. My heart is aching for you and my body is aflame with passionate fire. Only a thirst you are able to quench." Your heart skipped a beat at his words; heat began to crawl up in your veins. "Is that so?" "Mhm," Loki hummed, sounding way too sexual and seductive for your own good. "Tonight, when you're finally back in my arms, I'm going to show you thoroughly how much I am yearning for you." You giggled again, like as schoolgirl, "I beg you to- Oh shit." and took the wrong step. You felt your foot slipping. You lost your grip - and fell. Usually, that wasn't such a big problem, because the rope was keeping you from hitting the ground. Today, though, it wasn't. Being lost in the conversation you had with your boyfriend, you missed to check if the most important rope, in order to keep you from falling. It wasn't where it should be. But in the moment, you realised, it was too late, of course. With a scream and a thud, your body hit the hard ground, causing immediately everything to fade into darkness around you.
"Y/N? Darling? Can you hear me? Is everything alright?" Loki had the very bad feeling that actually nothing was alright. He heard your cursing, your scream and the thud, which shot anxiety through his heart and body. "Y/N?!" No answer. Without even hesitating, Loki hung up and stormed towards the door of his apartment in the Avengers compound.
He stayed with you the whole time, of course, until the ambulance rolled in. He told the paramedics as much as he knew and witnessed, how they loaded you up into the vehicle, driving you to the hospital.
To his sheer luck and relief, the god knew exactly where you were and could get to you as fast as possible... Teleportation.
The moment his eyes saw the beautiful landscape of the Breakneck Ridge mountain and Hudson River, he began to look around frantically. "Y/N?!" Loki found you, at the bottom of the mountain, unconscious. "Y/N!" He couldn't see any blood, but that didn't mean you were less hurt... The god stormed over to you and fell to his knees beside you; "Y/N!" heart hammering wildly against his ribcage. "Darling, wake up, please?!" He tried to get to you, but it was no use. You were out like a light. His eyes roamed your body, checking you for injuries. He wasn't a doctor and didn't see how you fell or landed, so it was hard to tell. Afraid of hurting you even more when he'd pick you up, he decided to just call an ambulance. He had to; having no other choice. How could he heal you, when he didn't even know where you were injured?
You woke up to a bright light, shining down on you and the constant sound of a consistently beep sound. You blinked, trying to adjust your eyes to the light. Wanting to turn your head in order to look around, a stinging pain shoot through your entire skull, causing you to groan softly. What had happened? The soft groan caught Loki's attention, who sat beside your bed, holding your hand in his bigger ones. His eyes snapped up to your face. "Darling?" The god spoke softly. "Are you awake?" You wetted your lips, swallowing. "Loki?" "Yes, it's me, my love, I'm here." Slowly, you turned your head (despite the stinging, throbbing pain) and gazed directly into the handsome, softly smiling face of your boyfriend. "Hey." He breathed out, raising a hand to gently cup your face and stroking your cheek with his thumb. "What... What happened? I... I remember speaking with you on the phone a-and... Then everything went black." Loki looked at you compassionate. "You had an accident, love. Apparently, one of your ropes wasn't tied strong enough and when you slipped and fell, it didn't catch you. I was there within minutes, when you didn't answer me on the phone anymore. I found you and immediately called an ambulance." You nodded, swallowing hard. "My head hurts." "Reasonable, darling. You have a mild concussion - without your helmet it would've been much worse, and a very bruised back. Luckily, nothing is broken. You didn't seem to fall that far, luckily." "Shit..." You cursed, grimacing. "Thank you for, uh, 'rescuing' me, baby." Loki smiled, causing your heart to skip a beat. "No need to thank me, Y/N. I love you. It goes without saying. Besides, do you remember what I told you in the beginning of our relationship? I'm gonna show you love all of the time; gonna be your breath when you're out of life - which definitely includes saving you after an accident." You couldn't help but smile as well. "Yeah, of course I remember. I love you, too - and who knows... Perhaps it was destiny, that you called me exactly in that moment..." "Oh, I'm certain it was, my love."
