The Airport Incident
Tumblr media
synopsis: the incident which made protecting yeona at airports, seungcheol's personal mission
year: 2016
warning: cursing, insults, slight violenve
------
Yeona had a rough time early in their rookie days. Likely because debuting in a group dominated by 13 men as the only female member didn't seem favorable to a lot of people.
She was subject to a lot of criticism and hate. She hated it. It absolutely broke her to constantly hear these for a year
Why is she there?
They would do better without her.
I wouldn't even be surprised if she seduced one of them. Probably all of them.
It became worse when they were scheduled to fly from Seoul to New York for Kcon.
Yeona had a security team plus her members to guard her if anything went wrong but some moments still surprises her.
Seungcheol was walking beside her. The rest of the members were either ahead or behind them. She had a mask on, her passport and ticket in her hands, and a bag craddling on her shoulder.
It would've been a normal airport day, until the unprecedented happened. They might have slipped passed their attention because the next thing Yeon knew someone was pulling on her hair.
"You're such a slut!" A woman, who could've been in her late teens or early twenties shouted at her after she took a good tug.
Shock would've been an understatement for everyone. "What the hell?!" Seungcheol shouted quickly putting himself in front of Yeona to cover her from the woman. The other members approached their leader and female member as well for defense while the security team was taking the woman away. "They would've done fine without you!", the woman added before she was finally escorted away.
Her and the members were also being asked to walk faster and to get away from the crowd, to get more privacy.
Yeona was stil recovering from the shock. Her hand was on the back of her head, and her other was holding onto Seungcheol's arms for support. The leader had his arms wrapped around the girl while rubbing ber back.
"Are you okay? Did she do anything else?" asked the elder, with his eyes on the girls face, which she replied with a, "No. I'm fine, just a bit surprised"
"What the fuck just happened?" Mingyu whisper-shouted who just recovered from the shock himself, and quickly came over to check on his friend. "What is their problem? That was so uncalled for!" Seungkwan exclaimed.
"Yeona, oh my god" Seokmin stated in a concerned voice as he touched her face. Wonwoo approached her next. Worry was clearly evident in his face and one look at her expression he quickly knew that she was holding back her tears. "You're not okay...", He whispered to her. It was a signal for her that it was okay to cry.
Seungcheol let go of his hold on her and passed her to Wonwoo so he can replace him in comforting her. "I'll talk to security"
"You know it's not true right? Whatever they said" She heard Jeonghan say from behind. "We want you here with us." Vernon adds to the conversation. One-by-one the members added words if affirmation, enough to help Yeona dismiss the thoughts of whatever was thrown at her.
We're glad you debuted with us.
We wouldn't want anyone else to debut with us.
You deserve to be here.
No one else could have done a better job than you.
"We need you with us" Wonwoo added as he kissed to crown of her head.
From the corner of her eye, she could see her leader talking to tge security team and their manager.
She couldn't hear well but Seungcheol was asking to double security on her because he now realizes how serious the hate around her was going that it would lead to the point that people would harass her in public, where he also asked their manager to quickly contact their company to have someone deal with it and have someone take legal action on whoever harasses her next.
Once he had returned from his conversation, he returned back to the girl who was being held by Wonwoo. "Yeona I'm so sorry I let this happen" Seungcheol told the younger member.
The 96 liner let go of his hold but still stood close enough, "Oppa, it's not your fault. Don't say sorry"
"I still should've watch out for you out there, I should've kept an eye op-" his rumbling was stopped by her hand touching his shoulder. "Stop beating yourself up over something you didn't know would happen. It was scary but I'm okay now."
"I'll protect you better from now on" He promised
She continued talking "You're doing a great job already"

"Like the things that once filled our world with beauty, the dreams we had for the future died."
TW1ST: 180° is the second extended play by South Korean girl group, TWIST. The album was released on May 5, 2017, through JYL Records. Consisting of nine songs, including the three singles, “Come Back Home”, “Triangle”, and “Overdose”. Musically, the album spans between R&B, hip hop, EDM, metal, and dance-pop. The group earned the title ‘self-produce’ group as all members have taken the lead in the album production. “Come Back Home” was written and composed by Chaeyoung and Hyerim, whereas “Overdose” was composed by Sohye and written by Hyerim. “Triangle” is the first track that contains credits from all the members, in which the live arrangement consisting of an electric guitar and violins were composed by Sohye and Chaeyoung, while the lyrics were written by Mina and Hyerim.
As a sequel to their first eponymous extended play, TW1ST, 180° was a commercial success. The album debuted atop the Gaon Albums Chart, with over 400,000 copies sold in the first week, with Twist breaking their own record for having the highest girl group first week album sales, which was previously held by the predecessor album known as TW1ST. By the end of 2017, 180° had sold over 700,000 copies, making Twist hold the top two selling girl group albums of the year.
The lead single, “Come Back Home”, debuted atop the Gaon Digital Chart with other 567,888 digital units sold in the first week of release. The song remained atop the chart for four consecutive weeks. The second single, “Overdose”, debuted at number two on the Gaon Digital Chart with 309,362 digital units sold. In the first week of June 2017, “Overdose” rose to the summit of the chart with a huge increase in sales after the group held a one-time performance at the Apollo Theater in New York City, leading the performance to gain popularity. “Overdose” topped the Gaon Digital Chart for seven consecutive weeks. Due to the sudden traction from the viral performance, “Overdose” peaked at number 10 on the US Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100. The third single, “Triangle” peaked at number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of September 3, 2017.
For the album’s release, a special “TWIST Comeback Show”, hosted by a collaboration of Mnet and MTV, was broadcast live worldwide on May 6, 2017. The show consisted of performances from the following albums: TW1ST and 180°.
Promotions for the album focused primarily on South Korea and the United States. Twist were apart of the following lineups:
Dream Concert
SBS Super Concert
Incheon Korean Music Wave
American Music Awards
KCON NY
Tumblr media
TRACKLIST:
Crush
Like It
Bye Bye
Triangle
Come Back Home
Overdose
Illusion
Mala
Black Widow
ERA HIGHLIGHTS:
It was difficult to follow up to the release of TW1ST, the general public counted them out, but Twist came back FIGHTING!
Come Back Home topped all the real time charts, earning 50 perfect-all-kills.
Overdose was the REAL hit of the album! It became bigger than Come Back Home and earned 73 perfect-all-kills.
Overdose debuted in the Bubbling Under on Billboard at number 10!
Sohye had a vengeance. After a winter of taking violin, guitar, and writing lessons, she composed Overdose as her first project. She then enlisted Hyerim to help her with the lyrical material of the song. 2HYE lives on!
Mina joined the cast of Hello Counselor, to give advice to individuals!
As a gift for such a successful first half of 2017, Twist went on vacation to Malaysia!
To get to know the members more, Chaeyoung began her own radio show; Chae’s Clubhouse, where the Twist members and other idols are interviewed every week.
Performance Highlights (Iconic Moments / Popular Performances):
On 050417, the official comeback stages for Come Back Home and Overdose took place at Mnet Countdown. The stage for Come Back Home was rather futuristic, inspired by The Matrix and TLC’s ‘No Scrubs’. Each member had a white monochrome and colorful latex outfit suited for them, as they would dance in unison. The Overdose set in comparison was rather dark, sleek, and simplistic with white greek statues surrounding the girls. The beginning of the performances shows 20 backup dancers in the form of a choir as they surround Twist. Chaeyoung and Hyerim are directing the orchestra before the song begins.
On 050717 at SBS Inkigayo, Twist descended onto the stage from the ceiling via a small shaft and broke the glass wall that is used as an entrance to their performance of Overdose. Notable moments include Sohye opening up the performance with an electric guitar solo which transitions into Hyerim’s opening verse, Chaeyoung and Hyerim’s duo rap at the bridge, and Mina’s high note before the bridge.
At The 2017 Mnet Asian Music Awards, Twist performed a symphony orchestra version of Overdose, which included 100 members and backup dancers on stage performing various string instruments of the melody. At the opening of the symphony orchestra segment, Mina has an operatic vocal solo stage and is followed by Sohye’s electric guitar solo segment. The girls are seen rising onto the stage in a ring of blue fire, which intensifies with every movement of the symphony behind them. Notable moments include a dance break before the bridge, Chaeyoung and Hyerim’s duo rap, Hyerim’s signature hand movement that commands the audience from each direction to sing or scream louder, and a solo Hyerim dance stage. The performance received critical acclaim and is listed as one of the most iconic MAMA stages.
At The 2017 Melon Music Awards, Twist performed a rock version of Triangle with an orchestra live band to enhance the live instrumental of the song. The girls are seen descending onto the stage as angels with fluffy white wings in a ring of pure white light (in contrast to the ring of blue fire they stood in at MAMA for Overdose). Notable moments include Sohye’s violin solo, Hyerim’s runway walk before her bridge (insp @ 3:01 here), Chaeyoung’s screamo rap, Hyerim’s high note at the end (4:30 here), and Mina leading a metal-insp dance break.

Tickets go on sale later this month for the stateside shows as part of the girl group's "MY CON" world tour.
Tumblr media
Nine years into MAMAMOO‘s career as a leading, chart-topping K-pop girl group, the quartet has announced their first-ever tour dates for the United States.
As the next step in the act’s “MY CON” world tour that traveled across Asia in late 2022 and early 2023, Whee In, Solar, Moon Byul and Hwa Sa will visit nine arenas for their inaugural Stateside tour. The U.S. leg begins in New York on May 16 before wrapping in Los Angeles on June 4. Venue information wasn’t immediately available at press time beyond shows in arenas.
The tour dates will mark MAMAMOO’s live Stateside return as well. The group has not performed in the States since appearing at the 2019 KCON Los Angeles festival. The trek is presented by Mammoth Inc. and Sugar Monkey Live.
The new “MY CON” tour dates follow the group’s latest EP, Mic On, released in November of last year, which included the single “Illella” that peaked at No. 5 on Billboard‘s World Digital Song Sales chart. Beyond group activities, the members have remained active with their solo music and projects. Solar and Moon Byul even teamed up as a duo for MAMAMOO+ for 2022 single “Better” and have new music together coming out later this month.
Tickets go on sale on at 10 a.m. local time on March 29 via Ticketmaster. VIP tickets from Wonderwall will go on sale starting from next month. See the full U.S. tour dates below.

it’s interesting that the existence of xg is such an uncomfortable topic for so many people.
if they aren’t openly discredited for being a primarily fem east asian group, then they get misbranded as an act from the country they primarily train & promote in (south korea) aka a kpop group when they Are Not A Kpop Group plus: they’ve have faced various discriminations in sk. if it’s not their use of english in all of their official music, then they’re suddenly not as hardworking as others or are “too comfortable” despite their free documentary showing us how much hell they’ve gone to just to debut the same as nearly every group in the east asian music industry. and of course there’s the ever-prevalent “the group doesn’t even make sense.”
and this part requires even more nuance nuance: xg’s music is written + produced primarily by other poc (rachel west, jakops, poe leos, patrick “j.que” smith & more) & includes heavy aave (african american vernacular english). in recent months there’s also been valid discussion surrounding jurin + cocona’s hairstyles + whether they are culturally appropriate or not. many east asian idols+groups continue to engage in cultural appropriation, but people act like these things are unacceptable when it comes to xg when these are not experiences unique to xg & are part of many east asian music group experiences (ESPECIALLY KPOP GROUPS) for a variety of reasons not limited to racism, wanting to mirror the “western” industry, & racism. there are also a lot of black songwriters+producers working in sk. all poc (especially black & indigenous people) are entitled to their nuanced perspective on the prevalence of cultural appropriation in east asian music industries+culture; it impacts us in different ways & we will have different, possibly changing perspectives on it.
xg’s entire concept is breaking boundaries stereotypes & expectations. english+aave are the primary languages they perform their songs in, & they are known for using korean, japanese, & english on non-official releases. they regularly release dance+music content between promotional periods, showcasing the experience they’ve gained from training + being an active group. they’ve performed at kcon japan + head in the clouds new york & have been promoting in the west on billboard, elle, + more. they’ve collaborated with ciara, jackson wang, & rico nasty. they’re so fcking popular i can’t find their albums! anywhere! plus, xg debuted in march of last year.
if credibility is a concern, they’ve established it. if success is a concern, consider why you think you get to decide what they deserve. and again (with nuance) if you’re a poc, your perspective on the cultural aspects of the group is yours. i know for a fact that xg is especially adored by black people for their music, lyrics, & non-official releases, many of which include covers + samples of poc songs/beats (like “two tens” a beat by j.cole, a black american rapper, that maya+harvey recently sampled). i also know a lot of us were angry+thrown+confused+hurt+etc when cocona + jurin wore certain hairstyles. (girllllll if you don’t get that shit out your head.) for me, there’s no final good vs. evil conclusion to be made bc of how prevalent it (appropriation) is & how much i’ve exhausted myself in moments past attempting to find one.
if you don’t like how xg does things (not the hair stuff)(never again…please) or can’t appreciate what they stand for as a group, then no, you won’t like them & you probably won’t enjoy their content. xg does not exist to make sense to you, or anyone else for that matter.

Sappy post about Mamamoo and long overdue (So LATE but whatever I need to get this off my chest) review of MyCon NY incoming!
Tumblr media
Mamamoo finished their USA tour and when I think about it I still get kinda emotional!
First, my review of the concert in New York. It’s nearly a month late but it doesn’t matter because I remember it all vividly.
So I took - what I didn’t realize - the last train to the arena and it was delayed! There had been an accident that occurred earlier and the train was moving slow as hell. I was anxious as hell!! The one thing I didn’t want to happen was to be late for Mamamoo. Luckily the concert was delayed so I had time to breathe. Right after I scanned my ticket I heard music playing. I hoped it was the music they usually play before the concert starts. Then I heard Hwasa say, “Make some noise!” and I SCREAMED her name and my friend and I ran so damn quick to our seats. I remember a few other fans running as well, haha. Unfortunately, I missed the intro VCR but I got there just in time for 1,2,3 Eoi!
Seeing them onstage felt unreal. I already saw them at KCON 2016 but this time I was much closer to the stage. Gosh, they’re so beautiful in real life and they sound amazing live.
I straight up lost my mind during the Solo Medley. I was looking so forward to this part. I was a different person for Eclipse Hwasa. My soul left my body when Hwasa came on stage wearing the Eclipse outfit. I was on my knees for her!!! When they did the body rolls during Maria I screamed so loud.
Besides the performances, I just love how much Mamamoo loves Moomoos. They were having so much fun interacting with the fans during the talking segments. The audience was barking and Moonbyul immediately embraced it and barked every chance she got. It was so funny because they were so perplexed by it but by the end they just accepted it and did it themselves. The concert had good vibes all around. My only regret is that I wish I arrived earlier so I could do stuff before the concert. There was chalk writing outside the venue where all the fans left cute messages to Mamamoo. I would have loved to have done that. I also wished I was there earlier so I could pick up a fan banner. :(((
I’ve been watching videos of the other USA stops and it’s just so nice to see how they were gradually getting comfortable and more confident with each city. You can see the difference in the way they act from their New York concert to their LA concert. They’re cracking more jokes with the audience and going off script more. Never getting over the fact that in Chicago they saw a fan holding up pink panties and they asked for the panties and wore the panties on their arms without a second thought. I also loved that in every concert photo you can see an increase in Bald Yongs and meme pics in general. I’m so glad they did this tour because they saw how loved their are outside of Korea. The fan VCRs were so sweet as well (Especially LA’s!!!).
That concert made me so happy. After the concert I thought about how I’ve been a fan since 2016 and how they kept me going during my high school and college years. Then I got emotional. Like damn!! These bishes really made me happy!!
Honestly, I don’t have post concert depression. It’s more like post tour depression. To see them happy on stage and having a good time with fans is everything to me. I’d do anything to see them again. :’)
