[Show Review] At her solo concert ten years after her debut, Moonbyul shines brighter than ever
"I never thought about going solo, at first. It just wasn't something that crossed my mind," Moonbyul said.
Mamamooâs Moonbyul is back in Singapore for a concert. But this time, the 31-year-old singer-rapper is here as a solo artist.
She had been to Singapore on multiple occasions, and her most recent was last year, for sub-unit Mamamoo+âs fan concert.
Titled [MUSEUM : an epic of starlit], Moonbyul was glowing and shining in her own right, for fans to know and see her as herself, instead of in a group setting. Held at the Capitol Theatre, here are four highlights from her show.
1. Solo concert only came ten years after her debut
Moonbyul is one-quarter of Mamamoo and she has pretty much toured the world with her bandmates. But this solo world tour is special to her as she finally has the chance to embark on this voyage, ten years after her debut.
However, Moonbyul had her fair share of doubts, which probably explains why sheâs only going solo now. She shared via a video played: âI never thought about going solo, at first. It just wasnât something that crossed my mindâ.
She added, âI wasnât sure I would still be a singer ten years later. But when the opportunity to be a solo career was presented, it felt like the beginning of a new dream.â
2. Crisp live vocals
Mamamoo is a group that is known in the industry for always bringing live vocals to the audience. Moonbyul, a member of the band, demonstrated that during her solo show too. Hearing her resonant vocals and rap live? Chefâs kiss.
She also made the effort to sing songs that were not originally on her setlist. And she presented them with acapella.
Even as an avid concert reviewer, I was sold by Moonbyulâs live performance. Her vocals sounded exactly like her studio version, and everyone in the crowd would agree too. While sheâs a rapper, Moonbyul never fails to hit every high note with ease.
3. Endearing bond with fans
Moonbyul has a close-knit relationship with Moomoos, a term endearingly given to Mamamooâs fans.
On some level, theyâre like her friends to whom she sometimes dishes advice. Between her songs, Moonbyul said: âNo matter who is around you, before you think of others, you should love yourself first.
âBecause if you love yourself, you get to share that love with others,â she added.
Another case in point: before she performed an unreleased song titled Take Off, she said, âIf you are a Moomoo, you would know what song this isâ. Of course, the crowd would know, responding with defeating cheers.
4. Fans sing the encore instead
Encore stages are always the time for artists to sing a few songs before they officially part. Rarely do they get their audience to sing with them, let alone by themselves.
Not for Moonbyul.
âYou know I wouldnât be singing it, right? You would be singing the encore,â Moonbyul later chimed in and accompanied the crowd in singing too.
For concerts, the showâs setlists are usually planned. But Moonbyul prefers to go freestyle at times. She took in song requests from the crowd during the encore.
For an idol to be so comfortable in their element and be able to perform without excessive pre-preparation, itâs refreshing and respectable. And this just shows how much experience Moonbyul has under her belt.

[ARTICLE] Billboard: NCT Dream Set New Album 'Reload,' Scrap Age-Based System With Return of Mark
Yo, Dream! Fans of NCT Dream, the youth-oriented K-pop act can look forward to a new album, Reload, from the act on April 29, as well as some exciting changes to their lineup following its release.Â
On Monday night (April 13, April 14 in South Korea), the teamâs company SM Entertainment announced that NCT Dreamâs new album will be the last with the current lineup as Dream will shift away from its current, age-based rotational system. Reload will feature the current lineup of members Jeno, Jaemin, Chenle, Renjun, Jisung, and Haechan, but after its release they will move away from the age-determined format that Dream is based around. To put it simply, the teen-aged unit of the larger NCT boy band is growing up.Â
Previously, NCT Dream was operating with a graduation-based system, so that when members reached the age of adulthood in South Korea, 19 internationally, they would move on from it. This led to Mark, who also is part of other NCT groups as well as SuperM, age out at the end of 2018. But this year will see the age-based system come to a halt, and Mark return to NCT Dream, bringing it back to its seven-member original lineup, known to fans and the band as "7Dream." Following the release of Reload at the end of this month, NCT Dream will become a fluid-style team that SM Entertainment says is similar to what's associated with another NCT unit, NCT U, and members will be able to participate in both their own projects as well as partake in releases under the NCT Dream name.Â
According to a post shared on the fan-board Lysn, the NCT Dream members who are not currently active in other NCT groups -- Renjun, Jaemin, Jisung, Chenle, and Jeno -- will become members of new NCT teams in the future.

BTSâs âButterâ Scores Biggest Song Debut In Spotify History
BTSâs âButterâ got off to a smooth streaming start on Friday, notching the biggest song debut in Spotify history.
The hotly anticipated disco-pop anthem earned 11.042 million global Spotify streams yesterday, breaking the platformâs opening day record formerly held by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieberâs âI Donât Careâ (10.977 million on May 10, 2019). âButterâ debuted at No. 2 on the global Spotify chart overall, behind Olivia Rodrigoâs âGood 4 Uâ (12.192 million), which has ruled the global chart since Monday.
BTSâs newest single scored the ninth-biggest single-day streaming total overall, behind two Rodrigo songs ( âGood 4 Uâ and âDrivers Licenseâ) and a handful of Christmas classics.
âButterâ debuted at No. 10 on the U.S. Spotify chart with 1.917 million streamsâa career best for the groupâtrailing nine songs off Rodrigoâs new album, Sour, which came out yesterday. Itâs a testament to BTSâs global popularity that more than 9 million of the first-day streams for âButterâ came from outside the United States.
BTS also enjoyed some hefty supplemental streams from the instrumental version of âButter,â which debuted at No. 43 on the global Spotify chart with 1.883 million streams. Cumulatively, both versions of BTSâs new single earned close to 13 million global first-day streams.
âButterâ marks BTSâs best single-day Spotify performance by a huge margin. Their previous best came last summer with âDynamite,â a similarly ebullient disco-pop smash that debuted with 7.778 million global and 1.824 million U.S. Spotify streams.
This is not the first record formerly held by âDynamiteâ that âButterâ has broken. The music video for âButterâ earned the biggest premiere in YouTube history, drawing more than 3.9 million concurrent viewers (nearly a million more than former reigning champ âDynamiteâ), and it has tentatively broken YouTubeâs 24-hour debut record with an estimated 112.855 million views, surpassing the 101.1 million first-day views earned by âDynamite.â
âDynamiteâ ignited a remarkable, ongoing commercial hot streak for BTS, becoming their first of three consecutive No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. âButterâ will face stiff competition Rodrigo on next weekâs Hot 100, but it could very well earn the pop septet its fourth No. 1 hit.

[ARTICLE] Moon Byul hopes to be more than just the rapper of MAMAMOO
Moon Byul spent the first decade of her career as the rapper of girl group Mamamoo. She now plans to break that frame as an all-rounder artist with her first full-length solo album, âStarlit of Muse,â featuring band music, brass music and more.
âIâve spent the last 10 years as the rapper of Mamamoo, but I didnât want to lock myself under that title. I didnât want to be afraid of taking new challenges,â Moon Byul said during a group interview ahead of the release of âStarlit of Museâ on Tuesday.
The group interview was held at Space Sophora, the art gallery in Jung District, central Seoul where Moon Byul also hosted her special exhibition before the release.
âThis is why I started my own battle to break that frame in 2022, joining competition shows and releasing new solo albums. I think I can pack that final punch with my full-length album,â she said.
âI needed all 12 tracks in my album to fully express myself.â
The album's 12 songs come in a variety of styles and genres, including âTouchin&Movin,â the lead track featuring funky brass tunes, âMemories,â a song featuring live instrumentals and âGold,â the artist's first English B-side.
âAll the genres that Iâve tried before in my past solo lead tracks are included in âStarlit of Museâ,â Moon Byul said. âThereâs a song similar to âLunaticâ (2022), âC.I.T.T.â (2022), I have a powerful song just like âEclipseâ (2020) and much more.â
Moon Byul joined and took victory in JTBCâs competition show âThe Second Worldâ (2022), which saw girl group rappers such as Oh My Girlâs Mimi, WJSNâs EXY and Billlieâs Moon Sua competing.
But Moon Byul, despite her history as a singer-songwriter who has written lyrics for both her own and Mamamoo's music, is only credited as a producer on two of the album's tracks â âLike a Foolâ and âAfter Sunset,â which Moon Byul wrote three years ago, but has been saving for her full-length release.
âIâve only decided to put two of my own songs in the album because I wanted to be open to different perspectives â I didnât want my album to be limited by my vocabulary and the language I use. I wanted to sing songs of love, youth and other different stories seen in different perspectives.â
Nevertheless, Moon Byul clarified that she was at the center of the album's production process, thinking of ideas and making decisions to craft an album that she, herself, would want to buy.
âWhen I was in a group of four, the agency gave us the big picture and we didnât have much input in the album. When I was in a duo in Mamamoo+, I could put half of my input into the album. With a solo release, I can have all my input in the album,â Moon Byul said. âEveryone can release a bland album, so I wanted to make a fun and exciting album.â
Out of the many songs in the album, âMemories,â featuring RBWâs boy band Onewe, was Moon Byulâs favorite B-side track.
â'The Second Worldâ really taught me that I like band music and made me realize that Iâm quite good at it,â she said. â'Memoriesâ is a song that fits just right in that category. It revolves around the theme of refreshing youth, and I think it will be best performed live.â
âIâm so glad and thankful to have Onewe as instrumental performers in the song, because imitating band music using synthesizers just didnât feel lively,â Moon Byul said. âListening to Oneweâs live performances, I could feel the liveliness, and I could sense how the band communicates with the listeners.â
But despite praising her collaborators, Moon Byul remained humble and cautious about debuting her own band.
âYou know, as much as I want to start my own band, Iâm very much well aware that people around me would have to suffer [in helping me],â Moon Byul said with a laugh. âI also canât play any instruments. I think Iâll have to be ready first.â
Moon Byul hopes that fans will enjoy the merchandise she's prepared to accompany the album, including a limited-edition tote bag made out of demo and various âunique and funâ photocards.
But the most important thing, the artist said, is that she, herself, is happy with her work.
âI never felt the feelings of satisfaction as I released my previous albums, but I was truly satisfied with everything with my album as I produced it,â Moon Byul said. âSo regardless of how other people judge me, Iâll be happy with my album.â
But, she emphasized, âI hope my fans will listen to the album and be proud of their favorite singer.â She added, âI hope it turns out to be an album Iâm not ashamed of and one thatâs worthy of Mamamooâs name.â

[ARTICLE] 201102 LOONA Takes Orbits Behind the Scenes of EP â[12:00]â â Teen Vogue
The group shared personal photos tied to their new songs. By Elizabeth de Luna. â2020 has been a major bummer of a year, to say the least, but that didnât stop K-pop girl group LOONA from throwing a massive (virtual) party last month â their Midnight Festival, a live digital concert celebrating their third EP [12:00], pronounced âmidnight.â On stage, ViVi, Yves, JinSoul, Kim Lip, Chuu, HeeJin, HyunJin, Go Won, Choerry, Olivia Hye, and YeoJin shared the groupâs vision for the new release: â[12:00] contains our message that all LOONAs are always together, that we are all dignified, equal, and worthy of freedom. We hope this message can be spread around the entire world.â
âThe albumâs lead single, âWhy Not?â, is an anthem for that vision and encourages listeners to pursue what makes them happy and revel in their uniqueness. âFollow your mood, follow your feeling, why not? Do it!â the lyrics exclaim. âDance all night... Donât worry about what others think.â Itâs a sentiment that LOONA has expressed throughout their career, and it has earned them a loyal legion of fans, called Orbits.
âIn this exclusive video, LOONA takes Teen Vogue behind the scenes as they prepared to release [12:00]. We followed them to choreography rehearsal (âI am inviting you guys to our practice room!â proclaims HeeJin warmly) and heard from the group about what theyâve been thinking about lately â including why JinSoul thinks that âspending time together [to rehearse] has decreased and spending time on ourselves has increasedâ. âWe wanted to know what LOONAâs life is like outside of the practice room, too, and to learn more about the album from their perspective. To see the world from LOONAâs eyes, we asked each member to scroll through their camera rolls and send us exclusive snaps that remind them of the word âMidnightâ and their new single, âWhy Not?â They sent in everything from selfies to sunsets, and below, you can dive deep into LOONAâs Orbit.â Click here to read the full article.

BTSâs âLife Goes Onâ Scores Historic No. 1 On Billboardâs Hot 100
BTS makes history again as âLife Goes Onâ enters Billboardâs Hot 100 chart at No. 1! Billboard has now announced that âLife Goes Onâ takes the top spot on the chart for the week dated December 5. The Hot 100 ranks the most popular songs in the United States across all genres based on streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay, and sales data. This is BTSâs third No. 1 on the chart, following âDynamiteâ and their âSavage Love (Laxed â Siren Beat)â remix collaboration with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo â which all topped the chart within the past three months. BTS has now achieved the fastest accumulation of three Hot 100 No. 1s in over 42 years, since the Bee Gees did so in two months and three weeks with songs from the âSaturday Night Feverâ soundtrack beginning in December 1977. On top of that, BTS is the fastest act since The Beatles to land their first three No. 1s. The Beatles scored three Hot 100 top songs in two months and three days back in 1964. âLife Goes Onâ has become the first track sung predominantly in Korean to make it to No. 1 on the Hot 100 in the chartâs 62-year history. Itâs also the first track sung in a non-English language to debut at the summit, and BTS is the first duo or group in history to have two songs debut at the top of the chart. âLife Goes Onâ garnered 14.9 million U.S. streams and 150,000 sales in the week ending November 26, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It also drew 410,000 radio airplay audience impressions in the week ending November 29. âLife Goes Onâ also tops the Digital Song Sales chart and takes No. 14 on the Streaming Songs chart. Meanwhile, âDynamiteâ rises on the Hot 100 this week to take No. 3, after scoring No. 14 last week.

It was previously also announced that BTSâs new album âBEâ has grabbed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Billboardâs charts will update for this week on its website on December 1. Congratulations to BTS! Source (1)

THE BOYZ Younghoon, transformed into 'Love Revolution' Lee Kyungwoo...who gives off a cold handsome man's charms.
In some cuts, which was released on the same day, Younghoon transformed himself into a chic, cold-hearted man, Lee Kyungwoo, and showed off his heartthrob charm. In the original weebtoon, Lee Kyungwooâs trademark long bangs covering one eye were not only digested in a cold, cool-looking man style, but also attracted attention by boasting a perfect proportion like a model in a school uniform outfit. With his cold expression and eyes, he is a luxury visual with a mysterious atmosphere and even his daily appearance standing at a bus stop or looking at a mobile phone stimulated by excitement.
On the other hand, he showed a different charm of his charisma on the stage with THE BOYZ, as a fresh high school student. It was an ordinary high school student styling, such as a slightly loose tie, casually wrapped hoodies and bags, reminds viewers of their real boyfriends or popular students.
Leee Kyungwoo who is played by Younghoon, is a chic, playful, and secretly warm character with the main character Gong Jooyoung in âLove Revolution,â expectations are rising for Lee Kyungwoo, who is drawing attention due to his handsome look.
The production team of âLove Revolutionâ said, âYounghoon, who is acting for the first time, is charmingly playing the character of Leee Kyungwoo, who is chic, warm, and playful.âÂ
âPlease look forward to the original Lee Kyungwoo and the Lee Kyungwoo Younghoon.â
It will be aired in September with 30 episodes and 20 minutes each through KaKao TV and Naver Series On.

[ARTICLE] South China Morning Post: Renjun of NCT Dream, Chinese K-pop star who is passionate, focused and goal-driven
While some K-pop idols begin their careers with an unexpected on-the-street casting or because they were convinced by friends to attend an audition, others got started because itâs been a dream of theirs for a long time.Â
Renjun was so determined to make it that, with less than one dayâs notice, he made the life-changing decision to travel hours to reach an audition. How that decision has paid off for him.Â
His early lifeÂ
Renjun was born Huang Ren-jun in Jilin province, northeast China, in March 2000. Korean is commonly spoken in the area because it is close to the Korean peninsula, so he grew up bilingual.Â
A young Renjun was not just interested in studying the Korean language, but Korean music as well. He was inspired by the boy band Exo and, in particular, the international success of the bandâs Chinese member Lay.Â
While his schoolmates set their sights on university, Renjun wanted to become an idol and elected to study at the Beijing Contemporary Music School (alongside NCT band member Chenle), from where he graduated with full marks.Â
Renjun was nervous about sharing his dream with his parents but, after learning he passed the initial stages, they gave him permission to enter auditions in China for Exoâs label SM Entertainment. The second round of auditions were three hours away by train, but he still went even though he had found out about them only the night before. His persistence paid off, and he became a trainee with SM Entertainment. Renjun made his debut in August in 2016 as a member of NCT Dream.
