Ok ok we all know about the Garisson trio but consider this- Keith, Hunk, and Romelle

My favorite thing about Klance is imagining their extended family dynamics. Like obviously Shiro (+Adam) is Lance’s brother-in-law and Veronica is Keith's sister-in-law. But spiritually: Lance and Keith both agree that Hunk is their shared brother. Pidge is Keith's cousin through Shiro, making her Lance's cousin-in-law. Allura is Lance's cousin through Coran, making her Keith's cousin-in-law. Acxa is Lance's sister-in-law through Veronica, but she's also kind of his sister-in-law through Keith. Keith and Acxa are kind of siblings but Krolia is NOT Acxa's mother, she is Acxa's mother-in-law through Veronica-Lance. Romelle is Keith's sister through Krolia but Romelle is NOT Lance's sister-in-law (not until Romella and Allura get married, then Romelle becomes Lance's cousin-in-law. And then of course Allura becomes Keith's sister-in-law through Romelle). I should make a chart.

Keith somehow always ends up getting in the middle of the Holt family shenanigans or the Lance and Hunk shenanigans and either way he's scolded with them.

Lance has always been obsessed with Keith's hair for some reason. He didn't know why at first, but as time went on, it became so clear that he wanted to run his hands though it and feel it on his fingers.

He made comments about it being an ugly mullet to hide that fact. It didn't work, especially not when he confessed to Keith before he left for the Blade.

What? He was going to lose the chance to say anything anyway! And he was so happy when Keith kissed him to shut him up and told Lance that his feelings were reciprocated, he felt as if he were on cloud nine.

Since coming back from his fight with Shiro's clone (who they're forever going to refer to as Kuro as in 'Operation Kurone'), Keith has experienced some changes.

For starters, his eyes were more purple. Before they'd been a grey colour with purple undertones, but now they were properly purple. Then his canines were sharper, practically fangs, and his eyes would sometimes change. When he was angry, his irises would become slits and the sclera of his eyes would become yellow. It was hot, in Lance's humble opinion (Pidge called him an alien fucker when he said that at first. Lance said that Keith's dad was the true alien fucker. Shiro sprayed the water he was drinking everywhere and choked when he said that).

The most noticeable change happened to Keith's hair though. The ends of it lightened, until they were purple. It looked so cool, and it connected Keith to Krolia more. His hair stayed black, but now when it gets out it was purple.

Keith... Didn't think the same way as everyone else.

"I feel like I'm losing my dad. I've only ever looked like my mom, and the one thing that has ever connected me to my dad was my hair." The team had stopped on a planet for a rest, and Keith and Lance had gone off together to hunt down some meat and gather fruit and vegetables.

Lance stopped and grabbed Keith's wrist, forcing him to stop and turn to face him.

"You're still connected to your dad, Keith. It's just not entirely in your appearance," he said. Keith frowned.

"What do you mean?" He asked. Lance hummed.

"You said that he'd go head first into danger, right?"

"Yeah..?"

"And that he was a hero?"

"Where are you going with this?"

"According to your mom, your dad was kind, and reckless, and a hero and someone she loved enough to leave to keep safe."

"Mom said that?" Keith asked, sounding surprised. Lance nodded. "Where are you going with this anyway?"

"Because those are some things that you have in common with your dad," Lance answered. Keith opened his mouth, then closed it.

"... You're right," he eventually said. Keith reached up to his hair and fiddled with a purple end. "That stuff... Does connect me to my dad..."

"I'm never wrong about people things," Lance said, confidently. Keith smiled down at him (that had happened during the two year time dilation that Keith and Krolia went through, and Lance found that he liked having to look up over looking down).

"You know more about people than I do," he agreed. He pressed a kiss to Lance's forehead. "Thank you."

"Anything for you," Lance said. He pressed a kiss to Keith's lips. "Now, let's go catch something that Hunk can make into a good meal."

"Alright."

They worked quickly, and made their way back to the campsite with food that all of them could eat. Hunk was quick to take care of the food, Krolia helping him while Romelle stayed by Allura's side.

Lance sat on a log, and Keith settled himself between his legs. Kosmo flopped down with them.

Lance ran his hands through Keith's hair, smiling as Keith joked with the others and treated Shiro and Romelle like Lance treated his siblings - by annoying the hell out of them out of love.

Lance leaned down and pressed a kiss to the top of Keith's head.

"I love you," he whispered. Keith hummed, tilting his head to look up at him. There was a smile on his face reserved just for Lance.

"I love you too," he replied.

Princess Allura of Altea generally likes her life. She lives in a palace with her father, King Alfor, her quirky tutor and longtime friend Coran, and her lady-in-waiting Romelle who she definitely is not in love with. Don't worry about it.

Her being totally not in love with Romelle is something to not worry about at all because actually, as of fairly recently, Allura is engaged! To a man (ew) she's never met (double ew): Prince Keith of Marmora. Their matrimony is to solidify an alliance between Altea and Marmora which, if everyone's being honest, is mostly to haul Altea out of its recent troubles. The kingdom is floundering and its people have been suffering for too long; this alliance with Marmora offers a fresh start and a royal wedding promotes economic stimulation, etc etc politics politics

Allura loves her people and her father so she's gonna suck it up and do this. But she can't and won't be jazzed about it all the time. Sometimes she wishes she could be anyone but herself, with the freedom to make selfish choices.

Anyway down in the town there is this boy named Lance McClain and he just so happens to have a vaguely similar facial structure to Altea's princess (rip this has to be a blue-eyed Lance story to work, huh) and he works at the dress emporium under Monsieur Iverson who is, frankly, an abusive boss. But Iverson is funding Lance's sister's education. The McClains need this, and so Lance pricks his fingers and works every waking hour for pennies that he never even gets to see. Lance loves his family so he's gonna do it but he can't and won't be jazzed about it all the time. Sometimes he wishes he could be anyone but himself, with the freedom to make selfish choices.

also Allura has five cats named Onyx, Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, and Topaz and she loves them very much. But Sapphire has been acting strange recently...

Lance has this cat that he calls Blue that he doesn't actually have but she shows up night after night at his window and he feeds her and she lays on his lap while he works and he loves her very much

anyway Romelle takes Allura into town to "run errands" or something but really it's just a date and one of Allura's last tastes of freedom before she gets hitched to whoever this Keith dude is

and Sapphire slips away and dashes through the streets and Allura chases her down and finds her perched on a windowsill in an alley being fed by a stranger who looks a little familiar and oh--

Lance and Allura finally meet and look at each other and are like woah we could definitely be siblings genetics are so weird

Bonded by their shared cat they get along splendidly and have a nice and surprisingly deep talk about their respective plights, and Allura promises to call on Lance soon

The next morning Coran and Romelle go to the princess only to find her bed empty save for a note that says she's taken the cats and run away...

The note is sus and then Sapphire shows up (from spending the night at Lance's.) Coran and Romelle know Allura would never leave just Sapphire behind, so they're immediately Not Buying It but they don't know who they can trust, and also this is a disaster because Prince Keith and his entourage are literally coming to visit today so they need to fix this asap

Romelle remembers the boy from the village who looked weirdly like Allura and she has the best/worst idea of all time...

Cue "To Be A Princess" as performed by Coran and Romelle at Lance, who by the end of the song is unclockable he's so good at princess cosplay

When "Allura" appears at dinner as scheduled, Alfor's advisor Zarkon and his shitty son Lotor are shook but they stay quiet

AND THEN KEITH SHOWS UP

Keith and his diplomat friends, The Holts, and his captain of the guard Shiro, pull up to dinner to meet Keith's future wife

Keith's a gay man he's not thrilled about this. She's certainly a handsome woman, if her portraits are to be believed, but there's nothing to be done about it. Lifelong bummer for Keith. Such is princedom.

So Keith and co. show up in Altea and they meet the princess and Keith swears she's a little broader in the shoulders and sharper in the jaw than he'd expected but chalks it up to shitty portraiture. He'll hire the court painter from Marmora when they're married.

Lance in his princess costume is like "oh lord he's fine" but then they go on a bunch of weird dates and mostly bicker a bunch because Keith hates that he's forced to be here and Lance is just sort of like that

meanwhile Allura's like busting her own ass out of the mines and lotor sings how can i refuse *hold for standing ovation*

and since Sapphire didn't get kidnapped with the other cats she's still around and Lance talks to her in the bath and is generally just being silly goofy and Keith happens to walk by and hear Lance talking in his normal tone to somebody named "Blue" and the door happens to be a little open and Keith happens to peek--he doesn't even know why he literally doesn't even like women--and wait just a fucking second that is a boy and a wig on the floor and Keith to himself is like 'um should i complain about being lied to, something wack is going on here' and then he's like 'wait I'm gay and he's hot let's see how this plays out' and says nothing LMAO

but then their little dates get way more interesting because Keith is trying to tease out this secret and also is like,, actually interested

maybe they do a horseback riding date where Lance gets to wear pants and have the big platinum wig tied back and he feels a little more like himself and he and Keith hardly even bicker anymore they just sort of have a great time together and Lance feels a little insane for this whole thing but he really likes him but he has to tell him the truth and he's literally about to admit it

but then Lotor comes back from checking on Allura in the mines and knows the princess at the palace is a fake so he calls Lance out and rips the wig off, the whole thing, and Lance is thrown in the dungeon when moments ago he was literally a hair's breadth away from kissing Keith on the mouth UGH life is so cruel

Lotor and Zarkon convince Alfor that Allura is dead and they plot to strike and stage their coup during her funeral or something idk

But meanwhile Romelle and Allura and the cats are power-lesbianing their way out of the mines, and meanwhile meanwhile Keith busts Lance out of jail and they go also to the mines to try to save Allura

just four gays and their cats standing at the mines like ok what now

they bust into the funeral proceedings and wreck Lotor's shit, Allura definitely throws him over her shoulder and skips him like a rock and they explain everything to Alfor

Lotor and Zarkon go to jail and Altea is saved even without the marriage alliance because Allura and Romelle found extra stores of quintessence locked in the geodes in the mines or whatever

Lance is now so thoroughly sponsored by not one but two royal families that his family will want for nothing ever again--his siblings are put on royal scholarship to any school of their choosing in either Altea or Marmora. Lance himself has always wanted to travel, so he does, and he writes letters to Keith the whole time and when he returns Keith is waiting for him and they do a big gay double wedding with Allura and Romelle just like in the Barbie movie <3

Yeah I was listening to it and this came to me ok so it’s Altean Lance and Galra Keith au

Lance and Allura r the royal twin siblings and the Galra and Alteans have been at war for 10,000 years but one day Alfor and the king of the Galra have a meeting and decide they want to end the war and create an alliance and how do they decide to seal it? U all guessed it, marriage

The king just so have happened to have an adopted son that almost no one knew about, which is Keith. So at first the obvious chose is to marry Allura and Keith (because no one knows he’s gay including his dad)

But before they started even talking about dating and marriage Keith told her he’s gay, but didn’t want his dad to know because he is scared his dad might banish him from the kingdom

Allura is completely ok with this because she is actually lesbian and has been dating a girl in secret named Romelle and Lance is the only one who knows about it.

Allura decideds she wants to tell Lance that it’s not real and when she does Lance takes a breath of relief and is like “thank god, cause damn that dude is hot, I don’t think I could keep my hands to myself”

And Allura, as the amazing, gorgeous shipper she is, starts shipping them. And sets up a picnic date that she somehow tricks them into, and that’s when Keith caches the feels as well

And everyday after being all “couple-ly” the split off into there own respective partners.

When the wedding finally comes Lance and Romelle both crash it and that’s when they come out with the truth and in the end the alliance is settled by Keith and Lance’s wedding and Allura and Romelle get married two months later

And Keith and Lance adopted a baby girl and they all live happily ever after the end!!!!!

Less of a full fic, more of a rough sketch of a concept.

Been thinking about a modern au where Tex & Krolia never married. They come to a point when Keith is 7 where their romantic relationship has come to its natural end but they're still best friends and want to raise Keith together so the farthest Tex moves is a different bedroom.

A few months later he starts dating the divorced mom of an 11yo boy at the same time as Krolia goes on a business trip where she meets a young widow with a 6yo daughter.

Tex & Krolia refuse to leave Keith behind to bounce between them, so they stay in the house, moving their new partners in with them. It's a bit of an adjustment, but the kids all get along and are acting like siblings in no time.

These are the relationships Tex & Krolia know will last, and a few months before their double wedding, they and their fiancees sit down with a lawyer, formally adopting each other's kids and signing co-parenting agreements. Shiro, Keith, and Romelle do not understand why they need to have some paper telling them they're siblings when it's something they already know.

Years later, when Lance tries to warn Keith about his own family, Keith just remind him that he grew up with two siblings and four parents, how bad could it be?

Beast King Go-Lion:

Go-Lion/Voltron's backstory is that he got split due to his hubris after thinking he could take on the space goddess.

Voltron is a sentient being who lived long before time.

Voltron's title is king of the beasts.

All the pilots, save Fala/Allura, are from Earth.

All the boys are effectively in the same boat as VLD Shiro and have the gladiator backstory.

Earth is dead and gone, consumed by World War 3 by the start of the show.

Allura is canonically 16.

Raible/Coran's a strategist.

Altea/Arus's people were assumed to all be destroyed (especially the royal family), but they're all hiding out.

Allura's parents and siblings are executed by Daibazaal/Zarkon's hand while she was a year old baby. Zarkon didn't know she existed.

Hiroshi Suzuishi/Pidge is descended from Ninja.

There's so much blood and gore. People get cut in half vertically and horizontally. We get the privilege of watching people drop dead on screen with these horrifying faces and screams. Zarkon and Sincline/Lotor drink blood, too.

Honerva/Haggar has this bs called occult science.

Akira Kogane/Keith and Allura are so slowburn to the point it might not exist between them.

King Raimon/Alfor's ghost comes back from the grave to tell the paladins how much they suck.

Pidge threatens to eat the space mice twice.

Shirogane Takashi/Sven dies and and a later episode introduces his younger brother, Ryou/Sven, who was captured as a slave among others before Earth was fully destroyed.

Cannibalism

A tragic side character commits suicide at the end of an episode

Amue/Romelle's older brother is willingly turned into a robeast. Her older brother and father are both murdered by the Galra during a battle with Voltron.

Earth is completely destroyed and uninhabitable. The boys become honorary citizens of Arus.

A scene depicting Pidge's mother shows her seeing him off his mission. It's the last time he sees her.

Lotor has a dream about his mother where it suggests Zarkon had a hand in her disappearance. A flashback occurs showing us she was a good person and was killed for moral differences.

Coran's son, Saint/Garret, died as an infant while he and his mother were escaping from the castle. They are buried by a local group of people. The Galra dig up this grave to clone him.

Hys/Nanny is shot by Garret and dies.

A father-daughter bond is implied between Coran and Allura when the latter comforts the former after the Garret incident.

The Galran foot soldiers are living beings.

Romelle almost died via firing squad.

One notable robeast involved a snake like being who survived a civil massacre amongst her people and was introduced burying her deceased child. She adopts Pidge within the same episode. She dies at the end from blood loss.

Another notable side character was a sand person. Allura befriends this one by giving it her bracelet. The sand person is turned into a robeast. It's implied the sand person dies at the end, though it is unclear why.

During the final battle, Lotor sends out trapped prisoners in bubbles as bombs so Voltron can't move without killing them. Lotor also shoots them as missles. Haggar also shoots at the prisoners so Voltron can move and end Lotor's career.

Haggar's motive in helping Voltron lies in that Lotor killed Zarkon.

Haggar is Zarkon's mother.

Ryou dies fighting Lotor.

Honerva dies. Zarkon dies. Lotor dies.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe:

"We don't need clothes." Keith, 1984.

Arus is still alive, they just get attacked.

Voltron's backstory is that Haggar disguised herself as said space goddess and wrecked Voltron into five pieces.

Coran's a diplomat.

Allura grew up an only child and seldom saw her parents because they were busy.

Sven is severely injured and is, instead, sent to another planet to recuperate, but gets captured as a slave on planet Doom and thinks he's crazy.

Zarkon disrespects Haggar likes it's nobody's business.

King Alfor built Voltron.

Zarkon has a nephew

Pidge has a sister who's stated to be training as a pilot.

That same tragic side character is said to have returned to her home planet offscreen

Romelle's older brother is willingly turned into a robeast. He swims out to see in the middle of a battle with Voltron. Romelle's father in consequence goes mad and is implied to have died as a result.

Balto is ravaged by Lotor's forces. Pidge becomes an honourary citizen of Arus.

Pidge is an orphan and the scene of his mother depicts his adoption

Lotor has a dream about Allura instead. Allura's nightmare shows us she's afraid of Zarkon.

Coran's son, Garret, and his wife are said to be alive in another dimension they were beamed to when the Galra attacked them. The clone is robotic like.

The Doom foot soldiers are robots.

Romelle was sentenced to be shot by a firing squad with stun guns.

Lotor and Haggar look for a new robeast victim among the Medusans. Audibly noting that they're all in a deep rest. That Medusan lady chooses to adopt Pidge. She also gets hurt, but it's implied she lives.

The episode about the sand people goes relatively the same way. However, the sand person is stated to be exhausted, but alive.

Sven is injured and sent back to planet Pollux to heal.

During the final battle, Lotor sends out robots in bubbles to trap Voltron. Keith can't move him because the bombs would blow up in their face. Lotor shoots them as missiles. Haggar shoots them down so Voltron can end Lotor's career.

Zarkon lives. Haggar lives. Lotor lives.

Pidge has a brother, Chip.

Commander Twyla dies.

The crew of the Space Explorer play rugby with a squad of Galra soldiers. They all die.

Both the buck and the fawn die.

The two dolphins die. One was a calf. The mother swims head on to a bomb.

Ginger is grievously injured, and is piloting her machine while fighting off sleep medication. She is dedicated to fighting by her team.

Hazar hesitates to land a killing blow and his gun is shot from his hand. Dorma shoots the body guard and in pain he shoots about wildly, accidentally striking Emperor Corsair/Zeppo - who dies.

The date by the time of the Drule evacuation is Feb 9 in the space year 2203.

Commander Newley agrees the Drules should have the third planet of the 26 system as they have nowhere to go.

Commander Hazar is assassinated by three Galveston soldiers. One of whom is Sandu's younger brother.

Jeff gives Lisa's necklace to Hazar's corpse.

Voltron: Defender of The Universe - Vehicle:

The Galaxy Garrison's motive is to find a second planet because Earth is suffering overpopulation.

It's implied the Vehicle Team and crew already encountered Hazar. He is described as a pirate.

The Vehicle Force call themselves the Voltron Force.

The Vehicle Force can only stay combined for five minutes.

Lisa is implied go be an alien.

Wolo's planet has seven moons.

There is a spy aboard the Galaxy Cruiser for the Drules. This is never touched upon again.

The food is crap.

Krik's from a water planet and it was at one point saved by Voltron.

Krik has ESP abilities.

The Drule have a confirmed child soldier among their ranks.

Shannon's brother was taken prisoner and is currently being held on Planet Doom.

Commander Hawkins pours hot chocolate from kettles.

Wolo's brother is implied to have survived the encounter with the beast.

Lisa talks about past African civilization when the Force is stalled on the weather planet.

Commander Brak says he'll move to another planet if the Galra choose to be peaceful.

Kernel Klaus lives and wants to continue building bases.

Oh, so this is the continuation of the episode where Romelle got kidnapped, she's in a dungeon with other women now Lotor tried to force a kiss on her after he compared her to Allura again, disgustang good for Romelle, she managed to slap him in the face

With the editing it doesn't really look it but Lotor knocked out Romelle and carried her away only for her to return by herself and collapse before she starts crying, something very nonconsensual happened to her,, poor girl

While knocked out she thinks back to when she was captured, Bandor officially became crown prince after their father went insane apparently, pollux is a patriarchy which is good to know for world building The other ladies in the cell are helping her out and making an escape plan, something tells me this is going to go wrong

Oh, shit they did it, similar to how the boys did except they LITERALLY COMMITTED ARSON BEFORE STEALING A SHIP, girlbosses every single one of them

Lotor's already on their tail, somehow his attacks set the ship on fire which you'd think couldn't happen because there's no oxygen in space but ok also they're crash landing on Neeve? I didn't catch the planet name, but Romelle sent out a distress call which obvs the team and Bandor picked up

The team and Bandor meet up, apparently they formed voltron but I think it's so funny that they ended up deactivating formation anyway, what a waste of energy lol

Allura finds one of her mice down her uniform as they're all out scouting in the snow, then proceeds to put them back into her collar, so they can keep warm why do I feel like lance should be saying that he wishes he was that mouse? Maybe it was in golion because he definitely doesn't say it here

Bandor and the team run into the ship but find it empty, then Allura notices a scrap of fabric and almost gets attacked by haggar disguised as romelle after the door closes behind her this is like the second time Haggar's disguised herself as allura's family, does she have beef with them specifically? The mouse saves her though which gives the boys time to get to the princess

Man they make Pidge such an acrobat in this show lol, he flips in the air and PUNTS HAGGARS CAT AWAY AFTER IT STARTS CHASING THE MOUSE SDOVINSDV

obvs haggar escapes but not without bandor, the team chases after her straight into the worst case scenario, being on lower ground Lotor demands Allura to be traded for her cousins, of course nobody trusts that he'd actually follow through

Allura starts heading towards lotor as the pollux siblings head towards the lions, but Keith is the leader for a reason, and he hides his uniform in snow before swapping places with allura so lotor still thinks its her also lotor unleashes a robeast when he gets close enough

Lotor v Keith again, except the siblings come back and want to attack lotor themselves for being a POS Romelle gets knocked out and kidnapped again,,, girl gets no break

Voltron forms, robeast is taken out, and now onto lotor apparently romelle gets set free? It's very vague because they catch lotor and tell him they'll tail him to pollux to make sure, but then they're back on arus? We'll see ig

Some random seed pods fell from space and sprouted on arus in abundance, immediately that's a sign that things aren't right

The mice pick some for Allura though, and they end up dancing together for a bit, how cute Immediately cut to doom, and we find out the flowers are haggars doing, which are supposed to make anyone who smells them sick

Coran calls an emergency meeting because the flowers are rapid response ig, people are blacking out left and right so Allura wants them treated at the castle by their doctor Dr Gorma The flowers of planet Lyra apparently are medicinal and should help

Lance has literally started a wildfire apparently because Coran told him to burn the flowers that started blooming maybe not the best idea guys

Allura has an idea to get past the magnetic field that surrounds planet Lyra but obvs she smelled the flowers so now she's out cold too just when we were getting somewhere too >:/

Lance ditches the team to go to planet Lyra by himeself in blue hey his suit finally matches lol

"I know, and I've got special equipment! Intelligence, charm, personality, good looks, and a rabbit's foot" *(winks)* -Lance ICONIC

ooh pretty girly to act as diplomat, apparently the roses are worshiped and not given away so easily so Lance gets grabbed and taken to the king for that permission only for a doom cruiser to pick him to go there, yeah definitely not good

lotor bitch slaps lance for not being allura, luckily for lance he's near something sharp, so he starts cutting his ropes without being noticed Farla is the girls name and she doesn't seem to understand that lance and lotor know each other so she asks to give him flowers which Lotor is glad to hear because voltron is out of commission atm

Lance is loose and starts a sword fight with lotor before his sword gets stuck on the highly magnetic rocks on the wall of this cliff they're on, Lotor shoves him off into the river below where apparently nobody has ever survived falling from obvs that's about to change real soon

Lotor wants the roses for allura himself and the king of lyra tries to extort him but lotor fucking KILLS THE GUY, LIKE STRAIGHT UP THE TEAM WHO EDITED THIS EPISODE STOPS THE SCENE AND FADES IT TO RED FOR CENSORSHIP HOLY CRAP

Lance lived and is back in blue, hooray! Except Lotor's crew is destroying all the flowers except for what they needed, Farla tries to stop them but she got smacked into the water before Blue came out to crush the troops

Falra pulls through and before she faints (dies) she gives Lance a bag of seeds for him to plant on arus, but he promises to plant them on Lyra instead he's such a fucking sweetie i love him omg

As the other boys try to fight the robeast lotor sent out on Arus, Allura stumbles her way to castle control and flies red since lance and blue are still gone man this girl has flown 3/5 lions already, girlboss

lance returns, voltron is formed, robeast destroyed, and lotor runs off, except dad calls and chews him out for destroying the flowers though lotor gets out of it by saying he's brought enough flowers to keep making the meds he apparently needs to stay alive for a long time, call ends and lotor calls zarkon stupid dude i feel like he'd know if his meds were missing/short how was that a good plan

Keith, Romelle, and Acxa being adopted/honorary siblings is my favorite (headcanon(?)). I love them and the idea that Keith was like "oh y'all don't have parents either?? I just found my mom, wanna share?"

Like idk, Romelle asking Keith about the universe and the paladins. Her wanting to dance and Keith, despite not knowing how to, wants to be a good brother and make her happy so he lets her push and pull him around. Acxa being too blunt with Romelle and not knowing how to interact with her but Romelle still wanting Acxa's opinion because Romelle knows she'll be honest.

Keith probably spent a lot of time comforting Romelle after Allura and Acxa probably stuck next to Keith like glue when they were at the Axis.

Did he tell his crew to go and spend the rest of the day with their family in case they never returned? Yes. Was he going to do that? No. He didn't have anyone to spend the day with, anyway.

"Captain." He turned around to see Iverson standing there.

"Do you need something Commander?" He asked. The older man gave him a knowing look.

Sometimes he hated that some of his old teachers were part of his crew. They knew him too well.

"Get some rest before the launch, Captain. It'll do you some good."

"I'll be fine," Shiro tried.

"Would you like to try that again?" Shiro's shoulders sagged when Colleen spoke.

"You've been caught, dude," Matt commented. Shiro glared at his friend, but there wasn't any heat in the look at all. He sighed.

"Alright. I'll rest," he conceded. Colleen and Iverson nodded, the former looking rather smug about it.

He walked out of the meeting room at the same time as Keith. Lance approached them, Hunk hovering in the background and staring at Lance. He caught the Yellow Paladin's eye, and immediately understood the situation.

"I want to know the situation," he said, a sly grin on his face. Keith looked at him, then to Lance, then turned back to Shiro to glare at him.

He ignored it, walking over to Hunk and turning back to see this disaster. He couldn't hear the conversation, but he could see Lance and Keith talking, the redness on their faces.

"Look at those baby gays," he commented. Hunk snorted.

"It's about time," he said. Shiro nodded.

"I'm honestly tired of their pining, and I've been dealing with Keith whining about Lance for years."

"I've had to deal with Lance for ages, too," Hunk said. Lance turned around, a smile on his face, then went up to Hunk to drag him away. Keith walked up to Shiro. He snorted.

"You're redder than Red is. And that's saying something, because she's really red," Shiro commented. Keith glared at him. "What's going on?" He asked. He slung an arm around Keith's shoulders - the prosthetic one that Allura had made him. It was the same as his Galra one, but made of Altean tech and white.

He was just glad that it wasn't floating like Sendak's arm had. He could still do stuff like lock Keith into a headlock and not get bitten. It was a possibility with Keith.

"Lance asked me on a date," he mumbled.

"And?" Shiro prompted.

"I agreed." Shiro stopped and pulled Keith into a hug, right then and there in the middle of the hallway. People walked around them, some staring, but Shiro just... Didn't care. He was proud of Keith.

Keith hugged him back. They stood there for a bit until they pulled apart.

"So what are you two going to do?" He asked.

"He said that his mom is cooking dinner, and that she was going to make us something to eat, so we don't have to worry about that. As for the other things... He didn't say. He told me to wear something nice but casual."

"Want some help?"

"Please." Shiro grinned. He pulled Keith along, making the kid protest.

"Allura! Romelle!" He called out. Shiro knew exactly what he was doing, because while the Alteans would probably not be the best at this, they needed to get away from the base for a while. Besides, in their time as co-leaders, Allura became one of his best friends.

She was the only one besides Keith to know about Adam.

And, according to Krolia (and from what he'd seen in their travelling), Keith and Romelle were basically siblings. Shiro just knew that she'd love to help.

The girls turned around to face them. Allura smiled at them.

"Hello, Shiro. What do you need?" She asked.

"Keith has a date and he needs our help," Shiro said. He pulled Keith to be in front of him and held him there. Keith froze as Allura and Romelle's eyes went wide.

"I'd love to, but-"

"You need to get out and do something, Princess. Besides, you have a good fashion sense, and Keith... doesn't have one."

"Shiro's right about all of that," Romelle said. Keith opened his mouth to protest. "This might be just what you need, even if it's just for a small bit of time." Allura looked at the ground, brows furrowed. Then she looked up at Keith and studied him.

"Alright, I'll help. We should get a nice shirt, maybe something red? It'll look good," she said. Shiro grinned.

"What kind of date is it?" Romelle asked, going to link her arm with Keith's. Allura linked her arm with Keith's other arm, and Shiro walked next to Allura.

"All he told me was that his mom is going to make us something to eat and to wear something that's nice but causal," Keith said.

"We can work with that," Allura said.

"Don't do anything too over-the-top," Keith said, a scowl on his face.

"Don't worry, otouto, I won't let them get too excited," Shiro assured. Keith's scowl went away slightly at the word. His eyes widened, and Keith looked at him. Shiro smiled at him.

"Do you have anything you want to wear?" Romelle asked, pulling Keith's attention to her.

"Uh... No. That's... the entire reason why Shiro got your attention," he replied. Romelle nodded.

"Alright, then. Let's go and see what we can do with you." Shiro snorted again. Keith shot him a look. Shiro gave him a shit-eating grin.

They separated to get changed into something more casual, then reconvened at the entrance of the Garrison. Shiro tossed the keys up into the air and caught them.

"Right, are we ready to go?" He asked.

"Yes!" The girls replied eagerly. Keith huffed, his arms crossed.

"I guess," he said. Shiro nodded.

"Let's go then," he said. He led them to the car. Keith got the front passenger seat, leaving the girls in the back seat. Shiro guessed that it worked well for them, because they could talk a lot easier.

The drive to the mall was filled with chatter, soft music from the radio, and a bit of laughter. Shiro parked the car with ease, and they got out and headed inside.

He led them to the first store. Knowing Keith, he'd want to go to one, but knowing the girls, they'd want to do what they could to make Keith look his absolute best.

'I wish you were here,' he thought sadly. He didn't let it show, though. He wouldn't let it show.

The first store didn't have anything that they liked, or that Keith was particularly interested in, so they moved on to the next one. It was the same there, and at the next one. Keith was uncomfortable, that much was clear.

"Hey, loosen up a little," he said. Keith glared at him, and in response, Shiro smiled. "This is just like old times."

"Sure," Keith replied. Shiro knew what he was thinking. Honestly, he was thinking it too.

It's not the same without him.

"Alright, one last one, okay?" Shiro said.

"I do hope that we can find something, or else we might need to borrow something for you to wear," Allura said.

"I agree with that. I doubt that Shiro has anything that can fit you," Romelle agreed. She poked Keith's arm, making him scowl.

"There are others I can borrow things from," he grumbled.

"But we need something that works for you, Keith. Something that'll make Lance stop and appreciate your natural beauty," Shiro said.

"Not that there's much in the first place," Romelle muttered. Shiro nearly died laughing, which gained a bunch of strange looks from aliens and humans alike.

"You're so right, imoto," he agreed when he calmed down somewhat.

"What does that mean?" Romelle asked.

"Don't worry, it's not anything bad, right, otouto?" Keith was staring at Shiro as if he'd grown an extra head. Which, considering all things, would probably not be the weirdest thing ever.

They went into the last shop, and immediately, Shiro went to the shirts. He pulled one off of the rack and held it up to Keith. The girls joined him, all three of them studying him.

"What? Is something wrong?"

"That's the perfect shirt," Allura said. It was. The shirt was a sark red, one that didn't take from Keith's complexion and it was just perfect for him. Shiro made sure that it was in Keith's size before thrusting it at him.

"Hold that," he ordered. Keith looked down at the shirt.

"Huh... you're right. It is the perfect shirt," he commented.

"Don't doubt us," Shiro said. They moved onto the pants. It was Allura who found something this time.

"Why do these have holes in the legs?" She asked. Shiro looked up to see her holding up a pair of ripped skinny jeans.

"Oh! It's a Human fashion thing. A lot of people like the look of it," Shiro replied. He knew that. He was one of those people.

He probably couldn't pull them off as well as he used to. The thought was only slightly sad.

"Oh! Do you think that these will work with the shirt?" She asked. Keith looked at the jeans, before going through and finding his size. Once he had them, he added them to the small pile in his arms.

"Can we get converse?" Keith asked. Shiro stared at his brother.

"Converse?" He asked. Keith had the decency to look embarrased.

"I've always wanted converse, okay?" He said. That was all he needed to say before Shiro's instincts kicked in and he dragged his younger brother figure over to the shoes to find a pair of converse. His eyes landed on a pair, and he smiled.

"Here, to balance out the shirt," Shiro said. Keith blinked.

"Do you just- have my size memorized?" He asked.

"You didn't ask for a lot when you were younger, so I had to do a lot of guesswork when it came to you and your growth spurts," Shiro reminded. Keith nodded, but Shiro could see a small smile on his face.

"Go try everything on!" Romelle said. She herded Keith to the changing room.

"I'm such a proud nii-san," Shiro said when Keith entered.

"What do those words mean?" Allura asked. Shiro smiled.

"I'm Japanese, which is a group of people on Earth. My full name is Takashi Shirogane, which is a mouthful, so I just go by Shiro to make it easier, and also it's part of my culture to call someone by their last name," he said.

"So those words are from your language?" Romelle asked. Shiro nodded.

"Yup," he replied, popping the p.

"And they mean..?" Allura promted.

"Otouto means 'little brother'. Nii-san is older brother, and imoto is little sister," Shiro replied. Romelle hugged him. He returned it.

"Uh..." Keith had emerged from the changing room, wearing the full outfit.

"Beautiful!" Romelle declared.

"It's good but..." Shiro studied his little brother.

"But what?" He asked, clearly confused.

Keith hadn't pushed the sleeves up, which he knew his little brother preferred to do unless it was that jacket he's worn pretty much all the time. Even now, Shiro could remember how Keith would prefer to walk around in a t-shirt, even if it was freezing. That, and the shirt was completely tucked in, and the buttons...

Shiro sighed and stepped forward. He untucked part of the shirt, then rolled up the sleeves and unbuttoned the first two buttons. He stepped back and nodded.

"Oh, I see now. That's much better," Allura commented.

"I know," Shiro said. Keith looked at himself in the mirror.

"You're right," he agreed.

"Of course I am. I'm basically your brother, after all. And I'll tell you know, Lance will prefer for you to look less like a well put together person and more like a hobo."

"I don't look like a hobo!" Keith whined.

"I beg to differ," Shiro said. There was a smile on his face regardless. Keith smiled.

"Alright. I... I like it."

"Get back into your normal clothes and we'll go buy these."

"Can we go home after?" Keith asked.

"Yeah, we can," Shiro agreed. Keith nodded, and went back into the changing room. When he next stepped out, he was wearing his normal clothes, the things he'd been trying on in his arms.

They bought the things, and they left for the Garrison. Keith hung out with him for a bit until Shiro ushered him to go get changed. Keith obeyed him, showering and changing. When he came out, Shiro helped him tie his hair up (they had to get Pidge to help, in the end. She cackled at them for a while) and sent Keith off to his date. Kosmo went with him, leaving Shiro all alone in the apartment.

The apartment, that he had shared with Adam.

Without Keith or Kosmo there to distract him, he began to spiral. Sam had made sure that the place stayed the same when Adam died, insisting that it be kept how it was for Shiro and Keith to go back to.

While he was glad, he also wouldn't have argued for it back if Sam hadn't done that.

Memories swirled around his mind. Good ones and bad ones. Memories of tickling Keith, or wrangling him into doing his homework. Of Adam watching and laughing, or helping Keith with the things that he struggled with. Of all the times they'd both comforted Keith when he needed it, and all of the times Adam and Shiro had cried together when it seemed hopeless.

He also remembered how he'd been sitting on that very same couch years prior, breaking down when Adam said that they were over.

Shiro fled from the lounge and went into the bedroom. It had been tidy when he arrived, as if someone had gone in and cleaned up the place before his arrival. He would have preferred that they didn't, in all honesty. It had made him feel so empty when he got back to see that Adam was dead, and that the room they'd once shared was clean, as if all evidence of Adam had been erased.

It also meant that he didn't have Adam's scent.

That would be so depressing to someone else, wanting to have your dead ex-fiancé's scent on things. Shiro just wanted to have Adam with him, and his scent would have helped him fool himself into thinking that it was just another day, that there was never a war, and he was never sick, and that Kerberos had never happened, that Adam was just in the bathroom, or out on an errand.

He didn't have that though. What he did have was a half-packed bag, and so many things strewn around the room.

He sat on the foot of the bed and looked around. Nothing was tidy anymore. The desk was filled with things that came with being the captain of the Atlas, and the bed was messy and unmade from all of the times Shiro had woken up from a nightmare or was unable to sleep.

He had wanted Adam in those moments. He never got him.

"I'm sorry," he whispered for the millionth time. He didn't think that he could cry. He didn't have energy to do anything.

He decided that, despite not having any energy, he'd still pack.

He grabbed spare clothing and his toiletries, putting them into the suitcase. He may have grabbed a few of Adam's favourite things that would be able to survive the trip; his favourite hoodie, his favourite cologne that was still there. That was about it, though. Shiro got up and searched through the house, trying to find something.

He found a picture. There were a lot of pictures around the house, but this... This had always been his favourite one.

Shiro and Adam had gotten Keith a passport, and they were able to take him to another country for a couple of weeks. They decided to take him to Japan, which Keith had taken an interest in the most out of their combined cultures. It was spring, so the sakura were beginning to blossom. Shiro took Keith and Adam to the festival at night, all of them wearing traditional Japanese clothing.

This particular picture captured that night. The pink sakura were in full bloom behind Adam and Keith, lit up by lanterns. Keith was grinning, holding a dango in one hand. Adam was standing next to him, smiling at the camera. Both of his hands were on Keith's shoulders, a golden ring glinting on one of his fingers.

Right. That was not too long after Shiro had proposed. Keith had insisted on getting the dango after the proposal to celebrate, and that's why it was there.

Adam looked so young and so, so happy. Shiro picked up the picture gingerly and touched his fingers to Adam's image, smiling and forever happy. He remembered feeling so, unimaginably happy when he took the picture, knowing that one day he'd be married to Adam, with his pseudo-brother with them.

"How did we get to this point, love?" He whispered. The question was a stupid one. He knew how they got to this point.

He walked back to the bedroom, looking at the picture. He placed it into his suitcase, wrapping it up in his clothes to keep it safe. He zipped up his suitcase and sat back on his chins, sitting the way that he'd been raised to sit by his grandparents.

He heard a knock on the front door. He got up to investigate, and opened it to see Krolia standing there. She was holding something in her hands.

"Krolia," he said, surprised.

"Hello, Shiro. May I come in?" She said.

"Uh- sure," he replied. He let her in, and watched with appreciation as she took off her shoes in the entry way, lining them up against the wall with the other shoes.

Adam's runners were there still.

"I brought some food," Krolia said.

"Oh! That's... That's actually really nice of you, thanks," he said. He led her to the kitchen, where he pulled out plates. They served themselves, and sat at the kitchen counter on the barstools, eating in comfortable silence.

They'd bonded over their shared care for Keith, and Shiro had been able to give Krolia plenty of stories of Keith's misadventures. Now, they'd become friends. It was nice, to be able to talk to someone else who cared about Keith as much as he did again. Though Krolia's care for Keith was deeper than Shiro's was, but she was his mother, and Shiro was the older brother.

"Lance came to me earlier," Krolia said. There was amusement in her voice.

"Was it about his date with Keith?" Shiro asked.

"It was," she said. Shiro laughed.

"I saw that. Man, they were both so hopeless for so long, and it only got worse when we were stuck in space. I swear, I thought I would have to stage an intervention at some point with how hopeless they were," Shiro mused, laughing slightly at the memory.

"I had to witness two years of that in the quantum abyss," Krolia said.

"Any amount of time with one of them talking about the other would make you want to shake them and tell them to just confess already." Krolia laughed at that. "What did Lance want, anyway?"

"He wanted my blessing to date Keith," she replied.

"And you said?"

"Yes, obviously. I don't know it Keith has shared this with you, but while we were in the quantum abyss, we saw flashes of the future. I saw Keith and Lance with two children, Keith and Lance dancing on the beach together, and I saw so much of Keith being so happy with Lance. I couldn't say no to him after seeing all of that." Shiro hummed.

"I've seen how Keith and Lance have grown from getting on each others nerves constantly to what they are now. It's so amazing to see how they grew in the time I was away. They're really close now, and I'm glad that they are. Keith needs someone to be a near constant in his life. For a while, I've been that, but he's getting older, and I disappeared on him twice. Lance wouldn't dream of disappearing on Keith like that."

"I agree. Lance is a wonderful boy. I told him that, you know. I told him that I wouldn't want anyone else to date Keith, and that he already had my blessing," Krolia said.

"That's good. I just hope that they don't make the same mistake that I did."

"And what was that if I may ask?" Shiro sighed and put his fork down.

"I had a boyfriend, when I met Keith. I still remember when I came home and told Adam that I wanted to foster this child that was angry at the world and needed someone on his side, to give him direction. He said that he needed to think about it, but barely half an hour later he was agreeing to it.

We ended up taking Keith in together, and we managed to get him a passport. When we did, we planned a holiday to Japan, which is where I'm from. Keith had taken a huge interest in my culture, so we took him there to look at the sakura and to give him a good memory, you know? I ended up proposing to Adam then, and we were happy. We were a family, but then Kerberos came up. Adam... he didn't want me to go, but I did anyway, and he broke off the engagement, and I disappeared for what, five years? And now he's dead." He was crying. Shiro was aware of that.

Krolia didn't say anything, just placed her hand on his back and rubbing circles. Shiro remembered how Keith said that his dad had died in a fire, and realised that, with the whole seeing the past and future thing, Krolia had probably found out that her child's father had been dead for a few good years.

"I miss him so much that it hurts. Physically and mentally, it hurts. I've lost a piece of me, and I don't know if it will ever be found again, or mended."

"I'm sorry for your loss, Shiro," Krolia said. He knew that she meant it. The man she had loved was dead, and all she had from that relationship was her estranged son.

All Shiro had was a ring on a chain, pictures, and memories.

They spent the next while in silence. When Krolia left, she pulled Shiro into a hug. He returned it, thankful to have some sort of comfort from someone who knew his pain, who knew how it felt to leave Earth and the one they loved to end up fighting in a war, only for that person to end up dead.

He didn't keep her for long, and before he knew it, he was alone again. He sighed and sat on the couch. Faintly, he registered that it was the same one that he'd been sitting on after he came home after Iverson and Sanda tried to convince Sam to chose another pilot for the Kerberos mission.

He stood up and walked, not really thinking. His feet moved on autopilot, he said things without registering them. When he came out of his daze, he was standing in front of Adam's name plate on the memorial wall.

"Hey, love," he whispered. He didn't know it he would be able to speak any louder than that. "I know that you never wanted me to go on that mission, but I... I wouldn't change it. I would only change the fact that we broke up because of it. And if I had it my way, you would be a crew member of the Atlas and coming with me. I promise that I'll stop going into space after we win. I promise." He was silent for a while, just staring at the name plate.

Something small and warm hugged him. A hand came to rest on his shoulder.

"He was fun," Pidge murmured. Shiro nodded slowly.

"He was," Shiro agreed.

"We'll make sure that his sacrifice was never in vain," Matt assured.

"I know. I just... I don't know if I'll ever be able to move on," Shiro admitted. Pidge's arms tightened around him.

"Time will tell," Matt reminded him.

And that was why Matt ended up becoming his and Adam's friend. He knew what to say in this moment, and Shiro couldn't ask for a better friend.

He was joined by the rest of the Holts, standing there and remembering Adam as they knew him. A student, a friend, a teacher, and, for Shiro, his sunlight.

"We should go now," Sam said gently.

"I'll come soon," Shiro promised. The Holts left him, talking in low voices. He closed his eyes for a couple moments and opened them. "Aishite, Adam. I will come back, and I will never, ever leave Earth again, just like you wanted." He left the memorial wall behind.

He'd keep that promise. He'd make sure of that.
