Chapter 6: Getting Closer
AO3!
Chapter 5
First Chapter!
Word Count: 1,740
WOW HI EVERYONE!
I am so sorry for the delay, I was dealing with a lot of stress (my cat decided I paid down my credit card too much and had another death scare (she's fine now dw!!)) and I've been dealing with some hard-core writer fatigue.
I'm not terribly happy with this chapter but I wanted some form of an update, sorry for the wacky pacing!
-----
“Keith?! Hey, hey, it’s okay, open your eyes-” A panicked voice filled Keith’s head and he opened his eyes in a silent yelp. His eyes frantically scanned the dark, unfamiliar room. He felt suffocated despite the oxygen filling his lungs in rapid breaths.
Two warm hands cupped his face, holding his head still as Keith tried to wrap his head around everything going on. “I got you, you’re okay. Can you breathe with me?”
A deep breath filled the air and Keith tried to follow it. Letting the soft counting fill his ears. Slowly becoming more clear as his heart rate slowly calmed down.
“There you go, just breathe baby. In and out, just like that-” Lance kept mumbling soft words to Keith. His voice is warm, yet laced with sleep and concern.
Keith leaned into the touch. This wasn’t the first time Lance had helped calm him down from a night gone wrong. He had become very familiar with how to approach Keith, where to touch him, how gently, what to say. Everything.
“I’m okay.” Keith managed to wheeze out, the room slowly becoming still. No longer spinning in a vortex of nightmares and confusion.
“I know, I know you are.” Lance lowered his hands from Keith’s face, Slowly sliding them down his arms until intertwining their fingers. Lose enough that Keith could easily pull his hands away but tight enough to offer comfort.
They sat in silence for what felt like an eternity. The only noise filling the room was their breathing and the hum of the A/C unit by the window.
Lance kissed his forehead and adjusted himself so he was lying on his side. Propping his head up with his hand. “Was it about…” Lance trailed off as Keith nodded. He rolled himself onto his back, starting at the ceiling. His body was damp with sweat.
They laid in silence. Lance focused on Keith’s breathing, while Keith did everything to try and block out his own. He pressed his forearm over his eyes, trying to will the dream away. He wanted to fall back to sleep, but not quick enough he went right back into the dream. So, instead, he would keep himself awake a bit longer.
He felt pathetic in a way. He was twenty-two years old and yet that day still haunted him. Did his mom stuffer with these dreams too? He would never ask.
“You were a kid, Keith.” Lance’s voice was a soft whisper.
“I know,” Keith cleared his throat. Kicking himself internally for the tears that burned behind his lids. “I know.”
Silence.
Lance opened and closed his mouth a couple of times before speaking.“Would he be mad?”
“Who?”
“Your dad.”
“...I don’t know.”
More silence.
“I don’t think he would.”
Keith released a tense breath, ignoring how it hitched in his throat. “You don’t know that.”
“I know,” Lance paused, adjusting so he was also on his back. His fingers slid down to grab Keith’s. “But he went back to save you. He wouldn’t be mad.” A gentle squeeze, “he couldn’t be mad.”
Keith filled his lungs, ignoring the pressure that sat on his lungs. “You don’t know that.” He repeated, trying to keep his breathing steady. His tone level. He hated crying, almost as much as he hated these nightmares that haunted him.
“I know…I’m sorry.” Lance whispered.
Keith pushed himself upright, silently apologizing for soaking the sheets with sweat. “I need some air.” He stumbled onto the balcony, taking a shaky breath as he closed the door behind him. He arrested his elbows on the railing, focusing on the cool metal. His eyes follow a couple of people wandering the streets after a night out.
He knew it wasn’t his fault. So why did he blame himself for it? Every therapist he had as a kid, every social worker, every family member, and his own mother, told him it wasn’t his fault. Why wouldn’t his brain listen to him?
The door slid open, pulling Keith from his thoughts. Lance leaned awkwardly in the doorway, holding out his phone. “It’s your mom.”
Keith stared at the device. His eyes shifted back to Lance’s eyes. “You called my mom?”
Lance dropped his head slightly, “yeah.”
Keith stuck his hand out, only bringing the phone up to his ear after Lance left the balcony. “Hi,” his voice was quiet, cracking on the simple sound.
“Keith,” his mom sounded awake, he didn’t bother to look at the time zone difference. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” he took a deep breath. Blinking his eyes a couple of times. Keith cleared his throat. “I’m not sure why he called you. Just a bit of a harder dream. Nothing I can’t handle.”
“Lance was concerned you were going to get caught up in your head.” His mother’s voice was strong and comforting. She always sounded like that.
“I’m fine.”
“I know, but I’m allowed to check up on you. Plus, we haven’t talked since graduation. I haven’t wanted to bother you with your new job and such.”
“Sorry, I haven’t called more. Just be slowly adjusting to life.”
“I know, baby, and I’m happy to hear things are going well. For you and Lance.”
“Me too.”
The conversation went quiet, a soft hum from a car could be heard on his mother's end. It was comfortable. He and his mom were never people who did small talk. “Do you miss him?”
“Of course I do. Every day.” Krolia replied.
“Do you blame me?” Keith whispered.
He could hear the frown in her voice as she replied. “I could never.”
“Okay.”
Lance didn’t remember falling asleep. Either time. He wasn’t a stranger to Keith’s nightmares. He just always felt useless when they happened. He didn’t talk to Keith’s mom a lot, but she seemed to be able to ground him better than he could.
He signed, pulling something closer to him. His head pounded and he squeezed his eyes tighter. He was never good at knowing when to stop when he drank. He was a social drinker, the more others drank, the more he drank. Not great, but usually he was around others who didn’t drink as much.
He buried his head in the mass in front of him. Something tickled his nose and he scrunched it up. It did little to help and he scrunched it again. The itch stayed the same. He forced his eyes open, meeting a black pile of hair. It took him a moment to register what he was looking at.
Keith. He was looking at Keith.
He swore under his breath and unwrapped himself from the snake hold he unconsciously put his friend in throughout the night. Keith began to stir at the motion and Lance quickly dove into the bathroom.
Lance was a cuddler, he was the youngest in his family. He grew up showing his affection by kisses on the cheek and hugs. Keith on the other hand was reserved. He seemed awkward and stressed when any form of physical affection was displayed to him. It took some time but Lance eventually learned how to show his appreciation and love for Keith in a different, non-touching way. Hard moments, such as waking up from a nightmare, were a time when Keith was more open to physical affection.
He put some cold water on his face, trying to calm down from the situation. Confused as to why his heart was beating so quickly. This wasn’t the first time he had woken up cuddling a friend. But he had never felt like this before. He took a shaky breath, the smell of Keith's shampoo lingering in his nose.
He left the bathroom in a huff, immediately being greeted by Keith sitting in the bed, rubbing sleep from his eyes. “You okay?” His voice cracked on some of the words.
“Yeah,” Lance forced his gaze into a random part of the room. “You hungry? I’m hungry.” He moved toward his suitcase, grabbing the first casual clothes he touched. Unaware of Keith’s gaze on him.
“What’s going on?” Keith asked, his voice shifting into his “awake” mode.
Lance paused briefly. “What do you mean?” He turned, his clothes shoved under his arm.
“You seem frantic.”
“Oh,” Lance found himself bounding on the balls of his feet. “Just hungry, that's all.”
Keith squinted his eyes at Lance. “No something is bothering you.”
Lance cursed himself internally. Keith could read him like a book, there was no way he was going to sneak out of this. “What shampoo do you use?”
Keith blinked, clearly caught off guard by the question. “What?”
“Your shampoo,” Lance gestured toward the bathroom, “what is it? It smells nice.”
“Just the store brand,” Keith’s fingers drifted to his uncombed hair. “I guess I’m used to the smell.”
“Noted,” Lance made his way to the bathroom, “let's get ready for breakfast.”
First Night Home
“Oh, I am so glad to be home.” Lance threw his bag on the couch, promptly falling to the floor. “That flight was brutal.”
“I blame the layover,” Keith mumbled as he made his way to his room. He placed his bags down and flopped on his bed. Taking a moment to enjoy his space again. He liked the trip, it was fun, and towards the end, he finally felt comfortable enough to talk to the other people present.
He sighed. The quietness of the room bothered him for once. He had become accustomed to having Lance with him almost 24/7. The slight displays of affection in front of co-workers. Attending dinners, sharing stories, sleeping next to Lance.
He pressed his hands over his eyes. He had grown to like sleeping next to his friend. He even looked forward to it. And he wasn’t an idiot, he was aware of Lance pulling him closer at night. The sleepy mumbled as he tucked Keith’s head under his chin. It terrified Keith the first night it happened but he eventually was able to melt into it.
Plus, he couldn’t deny how rested he felt. How the nightmares that tormented him had slowly begun to go away the longer he shared a bed with Lance. He wasn’t looking forward to sleeping alone again.
But that was just Lance. He wasn’t getting special treatment, Lance was a touchy-feely guy. Even if Keith liked the treatment, he knew it wasn’t anything more than platonic.
So why did that realization sting?
-----
Again, the pacing is wacky and sorry for the time jump,,,, I'm tired.
The next chapter will hopefully be a bit better but thank you if you stuck around!
Thank you for reading and your support <33333

Keith Kogane - I’m Not Going Anywhere
Not Going Anywhere
A/N: Modern life AU.
Also, any genders and pronouns are acceptable to request. If not specified, I default to female, because that’s the majority of reader inserts in my experience.
Summary: You’ve been dating Keith for about six months, but you’ve only recently met his group of friends. He’s worried that they each have more to offer you than he does, and his insecurities eat away at him until you calm him down.
Words: 2,063
“Your girlfriend is coming to the party, right?”
Keith froze, glancing up at Shiro where the older man stood beside the stove, preparing a pot of spinach artichoke dip. He was a disaster at cooking actual food, but he’d managed to learn to prepare dips like a boss.
“Uh…” was all the black-haired boy managed in response, shoving a spoonful of cereal into his mouth.
“Come on, Keith,” Shiro chided gently, employing his best Older Brother voice. “You’ve been seeing this girl for, what, six months now? I think it’s time I met her. And what better time to introduce her to the gang than at your birthday party?”
“Do I have to introduce her to everyone?” Keith whined, glaring down at his breakfast. “Can’t she just meet you and be done with it?”
Shiro sighed, turning to argue when he caught sight of his brother’s expression. Keith wasn’t one for expressing his emotions, so Shiro had learned early on how to read the arch of his brow and the shine of his eyes. Keith currently looked crestfallen, which given the circumstances meant that insecurities were buzzing around inside his head.
“It’s going to be fine, Keith,” the older boy commented, taking a seat across from Keith at the table. “Everyone is going to love her, and she’s going to love your friends.”
“That’s what I’m worried about,” was all Keith murmured before he stood, setting his cereal bowl in the sink before turning to skulk down the hallway towards his room.
“I’d love to go to his birthday party!” you squealed into the phone, balancing it between your ear and your shoulder so you had free use of your hands. “I’m almost done decorating his cake. I could bring it with me!”
“He’d love that,” Shiro chuckled on the other end. “We’re not a baking-inclined family, so it’s always store-bought cakes for us.”
“He told me he just wanted to do something simple to celebrate with me,” you returned, swirling icing atop the cake to add calligraphic decoration to Keith’s name. “I wonder why he didn’t tell me you were throwing him a party.”
“He doesn’t like being the center of attention,” Shiro reasoned.
You hummed in agreement. “That’s true.” Setting the piping bag on the counter, you paused, a frown forming on your lips. “It’s not… He wants me to come, right? He won’t be mad that you invited me?”
Shiro sighed into the receiver, and you bit your lip nervously. “He’ll be upset that I went behind his back, but I know him very well, and I think he’d enjoy the party a lot more if you were there. He’s just nervous about you meeting his friends. They can be a handful.”
“If you’re sure,” you replied. The last thing you wanted to do was upset your boyfriend while trying to celebrate his birthday. “I’ll be there. With a cake.”
“Perfect,” the man on the phone replied. “I’ll see you tonight. It’ll be great, I promise.”
You hung up the phone and set it on the counter, admiring your handiwork on your boyfriend’s cake. Exhaling softly, you tried to believe Shiro’s words. Everything would be fine.
Your heart hammered in your chest as you approached the front door of Shiro and Keith’s shared house. Carefully balancing the cake with one hand, you raised the other to knock on the door, waiting patiently but anxiously for someone to answer. The door opened to reveal Shiro, smiling widely upon seeing you on the other side.
“(y/n)! It’s so great to meet you!” he greeted enthusiastically. “I’m Shiro, Keith’s older brother. I apologize if I startled you with that phone call earlier – I wasn’t sure Keith would actually follow through and invite you.”
“He didn’t,” you giggled. “I don’t mind at all. I’ve been wanting to meet you for months.”
“Let me take that for you,” he offered, easing the cake out of your hold. He headed inside, nodding for you to follow him. You closed the door behind you, following the tall man- like seriously, how was he that tall?-  into the kitchen. There stood a thicker boy, nearly as tall as Shiro, stirring and chopping like a professional chef.
“That cheese sauce smells amazing, Hunk,” Shiro complimented the cook, placing the cake on the counter.
“It’s almost done- ooh, where’d the cake come from?” the cook inquired.
         “Keith’s girlfriend.”
The spoon being used to stir the cheese sauce fell to the floor with a clink, gooey cheese splashing all over the tile.
         “Keith’s what?!”
The tall, tanned cook spun on his heel, a grin splitting his lips as he caught sight of you. “She’s real!”
Shiro laughed softly, stepping closer to you. “Hunk, this is (y/n). (y/n), this is Hunk, our resident chef. He shares a few classes with Keith.”
“I’m an engineering major,” Hunk explained, offering his hand. You placed your comparably tiny hand in his, giggling softly.
“It’s nice to meet you. Keith has mentioned your cooking.”
Hunk’s eyes sparkled at the confirmation that the emotionally constipated raven appreciated his food before he turned back to the stove.
“Hey, Shiro, what-“ Keith stopped in his tracks as he entered the kitchen, his eyes widening as he stared at you. “(y/n)? What are you doing here?”
“I invited her because I knew you wouldn’t,” Shiro explained.
“It’s okay that I’m here, right, babe?” you questioned, brows furrowing with worry as you took Keith’s hands in yours.
“Babe?” teased an unfamiliar voice. “Keith lets someone call him babe?” A tall, thin brunet sauntered into view, resting his elbow on your boyfriend’s shoulder. “Hey, who’s the hottie? She’s- ow!”
Keith’s elbow collided with the brunet’s rib, and he stepped away.
“Yeah, it’s okay,” Keith murmured, lacing his fingers with yours, but you could hear the uncertainty in his voice. You stood up on your toes, pressing your lips to his, and he melted into the gesture despite having an audience. The brunet from before whistled at the sight, and Keith pulled back with a glare in his eyes and a blush on his cheeks.
“I’m (y/n,” you introduced, offering your hand.
“The name’s Lance,” the tan brunet grinned, taking your hand in his and lightly kissing your knuckles. You simply raised a brow in response, unsurprised when Keith ripped Lance’s hand away from yours.
“She’s taken,” he growled, wrapping an arm around your waist. You giggled softly, resting your head on Keith’s shoulder.
“Is that everyone?” you inquired, looking towards Shiro.
“Hunk!” another voice called from the hallway. “Are the nachos done? I’m starving- oh, hey.”
         Finally, someone not insanely tall.
“I’m Pidge,” they offered, lifting their hand to their head in a salute. “You must be Keith’s girlfriend.”
“(y/n),” you countered. “Are you another friend of his?”
Pidge stole a chip from the bowl on the table, popping it into their mouth. “If that’s what we’re calling it. I’m friends with Lance and Hunk, and they kinda forced Keith to join the group.”
“I encouraged it,” Shiro replied. “My brother needs social skills.”
“I have plenty of social skills,” Keith grumbled in response.
Lance snickered loudly, Pidge choked on a ship, and Hunk chuckled from his place at the stove.
“I got myself a girlfriend without your interference, didn’t I?” your boyfriend defended, his grip around your wait tightening.
“How did you two meet, anyway?” Pidge questioned.
“I’m an art major,” you replied. “We met in Interpretive Painting.”
“Keith takes art classes?” Lance gasped, his voice raising several octaves.
         “Makes sense,” Pidge shrugged.
“Interpretive Painting?” Hunk repeated. “That sounds like fun.”
“Ah, someone who will encourage my brother to keep working on his art,” Shiro smiled. “I already love her.”
Keith used his hand on your waist to guide you away from the others, leading you to the living room. He sat on the couch, pulling you onto his lap, securing his arms around you. Your own arms wrapped around his neck, your fingers toying with his thick raven hair. His nose nuzzled into your neck as he inhaled deeply, enjoying the scent of your body wash.
“Why didn’t you want me to meet them?” you inquired softly. “They seem nice.”
“Too nice,” he murmured against your skin. “They’ll take you away from me.”
You pulled away from Keith just enough to lift his head, caressing his jaw with your hand, gazing softly into his violet eyes. “You don’t really think that, do you?”
His gaze dropped somewhere behind you – a tell that the current situation made him vulnerable and insecure.
“You heard them in there. I’m not social. How many times have you told me I suck at texting back? If you hadn’t been so friendly, I wouldn’t have even been able to ask you out.”
“So?” you questioned, brushing your thumb across is cheekbone. “I’m dating you, aren’t I? If you being anti-social was an issue, I wouldn’t have said yes.”
He sighed, dropping his forehead to your shoulder. “Lance is better at romance and dating. Pidge is smart, and you like a lot of the same games. Hunk can cook actual meals. They have more to offer you.”
Your heart broke at his honesty. You knew how hard it was for Keith to be so open, even with you. He must have been dreading the day you met his friends if he was this concerned about it.
Taking his face in your hands, you lifted his head until you can access his mouth. You gently pressed your lips to his, pouring your emotions into the kiss. He sighed softly against your lips, his arms tightening around your waist. You let one hand slide back to tangle in his hair, gently tugging on the strands.
“I’m not going anywhere,” you promised between kisses. “I love you, Keith. Befriending your friends means I get to spend more time with you and learn more about you. They’re not going to take me from you, I promise.”
“Dinner is done!” Hunk’s voice called from the kitchen.
You slid off of Keith’s lap, much to his dismay, and offered him a hand. “Come on, babe. Let’s go eat.”
He took your hand, lacing your fingers and squeezing softly as he followed you into the kitchen. Chips, cheese, meat, and vegetables decorated the table as a homemade nacho bar for everyone to dig into. Keith’s amethyst eyes danced around the kitchen, landing on an unfamiliar container on the counter.
“What’s that?” he inquired, turning his gaze to Hunk.
         Hunk grinned. “(y/n) brought it.”
“It’s your cake,” you replied, shoving a fully-coated nacho into your mouth.
“You made me a cake?” Keith questioned, his eyes softening as he looked at you.
“The plan was for us to have a private party after you were done here,” you shrugged. “When Shiro invited me, I figured I might as well bring the cake.”
Keith dipped his head, pressing a loving kiss to your lips. Lance and Pidge cat-called from somewhere behind you, but Keith didn’t seem to mind. Shiro smiled from behind Keith, shaking his head softly.
After dinner and cake were thoroughly enjoyed, you followed Keith and his friends to the living room to watch movies. He sat on the couch and you reclaimed your place on his lap, snuggling into his chest. His hands intertwined with yours, his fingertips brushing your knuckles, and you peppered soft kisses to his jaw, reminding him that you were his.
While everyone was enthralled in the movie, you turned to face your boyfriend. You untangled a hand from his in order to lift it to his face, cupping his cheek. He turned his gaze from the movie to look at you, a soft expression in his eyes that only you were allowed to see. You shifted in his lap, pulling his lips down to yours. He tilted his head to deepen the kiss, gently nipping at your lower lip with his teeth. You were tempted to give in until you recalled your company, reluctantly breaking the kiss and settling back against his chest.
“I’m not going anywhere,” you murmured softly, squeezing his hand as you watched the movie. The kiss he pressed to the side of your head told you that he understood, and while you knew his insecurities wouldn’t be magically washed away, you also knew that he was trying and that was more than enough for you.

Note
Hoo boy leggy this got Long and I am taking Full advantage of the ask update so don’t say you didn’t ask for it 👿👿
Lance sleeps with a face mask sometimes, so he probably lays very still on his back
Keith tends to curl up in the fetal position, a habit from spending years going to bed not quite feeling safe. He thrashes a little, too, but not enough to fall off the bed or anything
Even though he sleeps on his back most of the time, Lance loves spooning. Doesn’t matter which spoon, but he finds himself being the big spoon most of the time because he’s Long
Keith won’t admit it out loud but he also loves spooning. At least when it’s with Lance
Keith can only be described as an aggressive cuddler. When he’s the big spoon, he practically crushes Lance to his chest like he’s afraid something will happen to him if he lets go. It makes it hard to breathe sometimes but it also tugs at Lance’s heartstrings
He tends to cling pretty hard in other positions too, wrapping himself around Lance like an octopus. It’s cute until Lance wakes up in the morning needing to pee and Keith refuses to let him out of his iron grip
Lance, by contrast, is a needy cuddler. When he’s big spoon, he’s always gently (but insistently) pulling Keith closer, pressing little kisses into his hair/shoulder, whining about him being too far away, etc. Keith says it’s annoying but mostly he’s just glad that his back is to him so he can’t see him blush
Lance doesn’t mind though. He knows by the way that Keith clutches Lance’s arms to his chest that Keith very much wants him there
Most of the time though they actually sleep with Keith’s head on Lance’s chest and a leg thrown over him
Lance snores very slightly when he’s on his back. Keith actually finds it soothing but has learned not to mention it because it makes Lance squawk
Sometimes Keith migrates to being fully on top of Lance at which point Lance is like ‘babe ily and I would love to hold you like the needy little baby you are but you’re also built like a brick house and you’re crUSHING M-‘
Lance loves having silky pajamas and even silkier sheets. Keith honestly finds them slippery and annoying but he deals
Keith just wears a ratty old t-shirt and boxers to bed. Lance would complain but it’s already a step up from him just conking out in the clothes he wore all day, which he already had to train him out of
Sometimes Lance sleeps in just sweatpants though. Just sweatpants. Keith has a really hard time sleeping those nights
He tries to get back at him by sleeping shirtless himself but it backfires because Lance just keeps running his hands all over him and complaining about how naturally soft and muscular he is when he doesn’t even try
Keith still keeps the knife under their pillow. Lance... adjusts.
He does buy a nice leather sheath for it though. Yknow. To prevent midnight decapitations
If Keith wakes up first he will just. Stare. At Lance’s sleeping form. It’s some kind of protective Galra thing, maybe. Lance pretends it’s cute but it still freaks him out every time
Or his more human instincts will take over and he’ll find more... creative ways to wake him up. Especially if Lance is wearing sweatpants. Lance maybe wears them to bed more often because of this
Lance thinks it’s fun to press kisses all over Keith’s face and baby talk him until he wakes up. Keith begs to differ
Keith doesn’t like being woken up. His grumpy ass will either shove Lance’s face away from him or make it absolutely impossible to leave the bed. Either way he’s glaring daggers. But Lance keeps doing it anyways, because there’s just something exhilarating about having that intense purple gaze piercing through him
They’re ridiculous when it comes to going to bed mad at each other. They’ll start off pouting and giving each other the silent treatment, backs facing each other on opposite sides of the bed, but within 15 minutes they’re angrily reaching for each other and getting into position
“You’re a jerk. This doesn’t mean that I like you or anything. ‘M just cold.”
“Psh yeah. You suck. It’s not like you’re all that special. You’re — My side of the bed is just lonely. Fuck, I mean, you’re like a teddy bear — NOT a cute teddy bear. A very ugly grumpy looking teddy bear with a mullet. Lucky for you I don’t need to look at your stupid pretty face to cuddle it.”
“...Did you just call me pretty?”
“Pretty STUPID. That’s what I said. Shut up. Just go to sleep already. Anyways you said you were cold do you need more blankets or—“
If you caught Lance simping for Keith while he was supposed to be mad at him... no u didn’t
Keith can feel the change in Lance’s breathing when he has a nightmare. He always strokes his jaw and kisses him more gently than any other time when that happens
Keith wakes up from nightmares practically jumping out of bed and gasping for breath. Lance is much better at talking him down. He might even softly sing him old Cuban lullabies
Keith has ridiculously cold feet and Lance always yelps when they touch him. Keith goes >:) and tries to rub them against as much of Lance’s legs as possible but it backfires and makes Keith fall even deeper in love when Lance traps his freezing feet between his ankles and tries to warm them up.
Sometimes Keith will nuzzle deeper into Lance’s chest while he’s asleep and Lance’s heart goes 💕💖💫❣️❤️🌟💙💖 ✨ 💕💜💫✨💥 every time
anon..... you outsold
my hcs were straight up chaotic in comparison kfhfkf

Love After the Fact Chapter 60: By Firelight
Lance is a good husband. Keith is *mostly* cooperative.
First  Previous  Next
Lance is sitting in front of the crackling fireplace, his own cloak wrapped around his shoulders, Keith’s draped over his lap. It’s unbelievably cold, like every night since he’s been here, but staring up at two slivered moons crossing paths above him, Lance can’t bring himself to care.
He’s neglecting his duties, but he hasn't really had the chance to look at the moons before, never stared up at the sky and seen another body so very near. On Altea, it’s so, so easy to feel like there’s nothing and nowhere else. It’s so easy to feel alone.
Sometimes, he wonders if that’s why his people looked to the stars before the Galra. Perhaps the moons made them feel less alone. Then again, maybe not given that the first thing they did when they finally achieved space travel was go conquer other worlds…
Ah well. To each their own. Not like the Alteans didn’t have their collection of occupied territories-
“Hey.” Keith, smiling at him, braid drawn over his shoulder, end disheveled from anxious fiddling. “I didn’t think you’d be up.”
“I thought about retiring, but I wanted to stay up and watch the moons.”
“I see. Can I join you?”
“Of course. Want some dinner?” When Keith nods, Lance hands him one of the last remaining bowls he’d set beside himself for passersby. “You might want to scoop from the middle. I haven’t stirred it in a while and it’s cold, so it’s probably the only bit that isn’t scorched or chilled.”
Keith smiles, ladling some of the stew into the bowl. “Thank you for cooking.”
“Someone came by and shoved some ingredients and a recipe at me. I don’t think that they were expecting me to do a good job, but I did. Or so I’m told.”
“I bet that made them mad,” Keith chuckles, moving aside the red cloak in Lance’s lap so he can sit sideways against his chest. Lance pulls the cloak up over Keith’s legs to help him stay warmer. He’s shivering a little, but seeming unbothered otherwise. Accustomed to the cold. He tosses another log on the fire anyway, watching sparks dance against the starlit sky.
“The only thing they need to be mad at me is you, beloved. We both know that.”
“They don’t need that to be mad at you. They shouldn’t be mad at you at all. You’ve done nothing to them.” He takes another bite of Lance's stew.
Lance smiles, kisses the base of Keith’s large, fluffy ear as Keith’s tail finds his ankle. “Sometimes nothing is just as bad.”
“I suppose… This really is good, by the way. You did a wonderful job.”
“Thanks, beloved.”
Keith sets the empty bowl aside, turns to sit between Lance’s legs, facing the moons. Lance pulls the cloak up to the Galra’s chest to keep them both warm. “The moons will be new soon.”
“Both of them?”
“Yeah. It’s something that happens roughly once a centaphoeb… I was born under the new moons. It’s the darkest night you’ll ever see,” Keith whispered.
“Hm.” Lance stares at the sky, at the gaping voids in the stars where the looming silhouettes of the moons black out the sky. “Sounds terrifying.”
“Existentially, yes… Last time it happened, I was all alone. It was so dark and scary.”
“I can imagine.”
They sit quietly for a few minutes, enjoying each other’s company, listening to the crackling of the fire. Lance knows Keith needs it, just as much as he knows he hates to ask. Keith’s not one to make himself that vulnerable, to actually use the word ‘need’. He knows the Galra is just itching to go back to his usual self-sufficient ways. Keith’s not the type to enjoy being tethered to any one person, not even Lance.
“I feel like by the time your season’s actually over, you’re going to be sick of me,” he murmurs.
Keith’s fingers lightly squeeze his wrist. “I could never be sick of you. Though sometimes I do miss solitude. Nothing against you, obviously. Just sometimes I want to be alone for a little while.”
“Thace says it’s not good for you to be alone.”
“He’s probably right,” Keith murmurs, sighing. “But people can be… so much. Sometimes I just need silence.”
“I trust you to know what you need, when you need it.”
Keith drags Lance’s hand -the one not around his waist- into his lap, toying with his fingers beneath the blanket. “Are you ready to tell me what happened this morning? I could tell you’d been crying.” He kisses the underside of Lance’s jaw. “It worries me when I see you cry. You usually bury all that in your work.”
“Romelle doesn’t recognize my sister anymore,” Lance whispers. “I just- We’ve tried so hard to bring her back, and nothing works. My father says that it’s not in her best interests to try anything else. She suffers for it, and it doesn’t work. I agree with him, but it hurts. For decaphoebs, she seemed fine. Thriving, apart from a few headaches. Running around with me, Allura, Adam, and Lanval, getting into trouble… I miss that. I miss the four of us just being able to have fun together.”
“Growing up sucks,” Keith whispers.
“It really, really does.” Lance’s eyes search the sky, looking for familiar stars, but it’s hard to tell which ones are which from this new angle. “How was your day? I know this morning wasn’t fun.”
“Well, I accidentally called my mother a breeder, so… Could have been better.” The Galra chuckles.
“I take it that’s a bit of a derogatory term?”
“Not just a bit. Basically, I implied all she’s good for, or that bearers are good for, is pushing out kits.”
Frowning, Lance twists his head to look his spouse in the face. “Is that really what you think of yourself?”
“Sometimes. I mean, I am expected to bear your children. It’s kind of the reason I was selected. Well, that, and my uncle wanted to get rid of me.”
“Keith.” Lance winces at his sharpened tone, at the slight droop to Keith’s ears. “What exactly do you think is going to happen when we have children?”
“I don’t know… I guess I assumed you’d be running the kingdom and I’d be raising our kits? But I don’t want that. That’s fine for some people, but I want to be able to do other things. I want to be other things-”
“Do you really think I could run a kingdom by myself? I mean, I’m flattered, but there is no way I could do everything I could do without you. Even if I could, I wouldn’t want to. Listen.” Lance pushes some hair out of Keith’s face, trying to reach the luminescent eyes underneath. It falls right back into place. “We’re partners, beloved. Everything we do, we do together.
"You don't have to worry about me being absent or anything like that. I’m not my father, Keith-”
“I never said that! I know you’re not your father!” Keith’s alarm softens to something far more gentle. “You could never be your father, Lance. You’re too… you.”
“Yeah,” Lance whispers. “I know we’ve only known each other for a year, and we’re still learning a lot about each other. I mean, I learn new things about you every day. But I know you well enough to know that you could never be content being just one thing. Be everything you want, and if what you want right now isn’t parenthood, we have time. We can wait until your next season, a decaphoeb, a centaphoeb- However long you need to be ready for that. Then, when you are ready, we can do that.”
Keith tips his head against Lance’s chest, snuggling closer under the cloak. There’s always going to be a bit of conflict within himself, Lance knows. Keith is easily the best thing that’s ever happened to him, but the circumstances under which they met will always sting. The best he can do for his spouse is make sure it never happens again.
“What do you want, Lance? Are you ready?” Amethyst eyes stare up, glowing gold, glittering and almost hard, stubbornly waiting for an answer.
“I am so ready. I’ve wanted to be a father since I was a little kid.” Lance grins, thinking of all the times he imagined being a parent. “But like, I’ve got a couple milophoebs of life ahead of me, and so do you. We’ve got time for both of us to be ready first. We’ll live big, full lives, Keith. No matter what.”
The Galra’s still staring at him, but his eyes are soft, warm even with the unsettling glow of his night lenses. Lance isn’t sure if he ever truly found that nighttime gaze frightening, instead of mesmerizing. He knows it doesn’t frighten him now. How could it, when Keith’s looking at him with so much love? What could Lance have done to ever deserve it?
“Lance?”
Lance jolts from his thoughts. “Keith?”
“I love you.”
“Aw-w, Ke-ith.” Lance grins, presses their foreheads together just to hear him purr. “I love you too. To Daibazaal and back. Literally.”
“Literally.” Keith presses a smiling kiss to his lips. "Thank you, Lance. I- I feel better now."
"I'm glad. Tell me when you decide?"
"I'll tell you when I ready."
"Good." Lance beams down at his spouse, even as their cloaks slip away. As their lips meet again, Keith rises onto his knees, threads dark purple fingers into silver-white hair, the very tips of his claws scratching at Lance’s scalp. His own hands find Keith’s cheeks, cradling him close. Lance can’t help but giggle at the feel of Keith’s thin, raspy tongue, the way it feels against his. It’s just so different from his own, smooth tongue.
Sighing, Lance seeks out more, chasing after Keith’s taste. It’s delicious, intoxicating, the most he’s had after months of sudden nothing. So when Keith draws away, he follows a little before he remembers.
“Sorry,” Keith murmurs, hands trembling in Lance’s hair as he presses their brows together again. “I’m sorry.”
“Never,” he whispers, thumb grazing Keith’s cheek. “Come on. We should get some rest. It’s super late.”
“Yeah. Especially since we’re training with the Blades tomorrow.”
“Ooh, I wonder if Adam will do some training with me. It’s been ages.” Because he’s feeling generous, Lance scoops Keith up into his arms. He only gets a glare and an elbow for his trouble. It’s just as good. Or at least amusing.
“Adam can fight? I just assumed he nags his enemies to death.”
“Oh, yes. He uses a double-ended polearm. He has multiple different ones, with different heads on either end.”
“He would have that- Can you please put me down now? I’m not a baby!”
“I’m trying to be romantic!” Lance sets his spouse down, tugging on the end of his braid so Keith knows he’s playing, not upset.
“You can be romantic by letting me walk and then cuddling me for the rest of the night. How’s that?”
“...Sounds really nice, actually.”
“Then let’s go.”
Settled down for the night, Lance rubs the base of Keith’s ear. It’s not something he really needs anymore, but it seems to make him happy, and definitely makes him smile, so why not? The way Keith purrs, tucks his head firmly under Lance’s chin as he twists his tail back around his ankle just seals the deal.
Nothing will ever top this.
“Goodnight, Lance.”
“Goodnight Keith.”
“Love you.”
“Love you too.”

Dirty Sheets
Langst -> Klance :)
So empty. Quiet. The air was stiff.
Whenever Lance wasn’t working or training he sat in the vast silence that filled him and a nobody ruler from an unspoken of planet.
Nights were loveless touch starved and once and a while filled with lustless moans forgotten in the seemingly never-ending halls of the castle.
Lance finally decided to call someone, anyone.
“Coran, can I come over for a little bit, maybe a week or less?”
He heard conversing in the background grow quiet, “Why of course is something wrong?”
Lance turned around to see his husband still asleep before he quickly left the room.
“No- just... I need to get away for a bit.”
“Of course you can come over!”
Lance smiled looking overwhelmed with joy, something he should’ve found in his husband, recently married.
“I’ll be there as soon as possible.”
Just as quick as the conversation came it was over the silent static once again filled the void in Lance’s ears.
...
“Absolutely not!”
“I’m going whether or not you want me to!”
“Well then! I’ll just go with you!”
“Oh really? I’m shocked you’d give up time away from me-“
-power 100%-
Lance grabbed his bags and walked in the silent footsteps behind him followed as the door hissed shut.
Lance shook his head butting his lip.
“Why would I want to be away from you? Huh!”
“Oh like hell you don’t know!”
“Stop pretending like you aren’t obvious about what you do when I’m busy!”
“What exactly are you implying?”
-You’ve arrived at your destination-
Silent Lance walked out and up to Coran who tightly hugged Lance in his arms picking up on his radiating sadness.
“I missed this.”
Coran couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle, “What is it that you miss my boy?”
“A hug.”
The simple phrase was enough to strike a nerve in Coran’s heart as he let go to gaze at the husband.
“Hello, my names Coran.”
“Ethan, Prince Ethan, honor to meet you, Coran.”
“Come on in everyone’s here”
Lance smiled softly coming in and he tried to shine bright and let his usual ego take control but he had nothing left.
Pidge froze before leaping at Lance, “Lance! Oh my god, I’ve missed you so much! How come you never call?”
Lance glanced for his husband, “Oh! Sorry for not being active I’ve been very... busy!”
Pidge shrugged, “Understandable everyone always has a problem to deal with.”
Hunk walked over and just hugged Lance tightly as Pidge introduced herself to Ethan.
“You okay Lance?”
“Yeah, I’m good.”
“You sure? You don’t seem your usual chipper self.”
Forcing a shit-eating grin and a laugh, “Time will change even the most beautiful of roses.”
Pulling back Hunk softly smiled, “You’re right about that buddy, but it’s nice to see you, your features have really matured.”
Chuckling I turned to Shiro, “Hi! How have you been?”
“Good, how about you? Your charm finally paid off I see.”
I shifted my weight between my two feet uncomfortably, “Yeah... it really did, didn’t it?”
Finally, I turned to Keith, oh perfect Keith. How I’d give anything to change our course and our passings for one bright future. He hadn’t changed too much seeming relatively the same.
I grew taller my muscles for defined along with my eyes and from Allura Altean features started to change my DNA slowly.
“We just had dinner a couple before you arrived so if you like I can show you your room and then heat you something up.”
Ethan interjected, “We’ll be fine thank you very much.”
Lance sighed as Ethan grabbed Lance’s wrist whispering in his ear. Lance nodded seemingly irritated, Coran smiled guiding the way as Lance ripped his hand from Ethan's grapes putting space between the two.
Once shown their room Ethan smiled, “Thank you, we will join you in a bit we have matters to discuss at the moment with work.”
Lance looked at Coran, “Sorry he felt like he needed to lie to you, we will need to establish some things personal between the two of us and then we will be out with you all.”
“Okay, my boy...”
Pidge had other plans. Getting Hunk and Keith to go with her to snoop she rushed to their room where voices could be heard. It was almost screaming.
“What exactly do you know Lance?”
“Oh my god... Why are you ignoring the fact that I know you’ve been unfaithful!”
“You know I’ve had my rough spots but I’m not cheating on you!”
“Oh? So everyone on our planet is lying, they haven’t seen you out with a girl, by the name of Ruthan?”
“Lance, that’s enough!”
“You know what? I’m done with your bullshit! Day and night I’m slaving away doing work for a civilization you couldn’t give a tinnier shit about! I come back just for you to need sex, a loveless marriage you make me regret every day!”
“I give you money! I give you fame! Everything you possibly would want! You selfish whore!”
A loud smack was heard and everything went silent.
“How. Dare. You! You fucking asshole!”
“Lance I’m so sorry!”
Shattering was heard.
“Your ring!”
“I hate you....”
“Baby...You don’t mean that-“
“I fucking hate you!”
“I love you, Lance! I love you and I may make mistakes but I have never not loved you.”
“What? You love me ridding you’re dick cause your too lazy to be a man? What you’re telling me that when I try and take a shower you come in and slam me to the wall and make me scream until nothing else matters?”
“Well guess what? I wish I never loved you.”
“Wait... is that why you're here? Are you not over him?”
“As if any of this was influenced by that! You even know you're trying to fuck with my head again!” There was a long pause, “You’re trying to manipulate me! Sabotage me, make me wanna crawl right back into square one where this cycle will never end.”
“I swear Ruthan was a once time thing Lance. I love you. I really do.”
“God just shut up already and get over here.”
Laughing was heard as jumping was heard.
“Get off you fucking idiot!”
Well, they had heard everything they needed to.
It took two hours for them to be found. It was silent there was a sense of compassionate intimacy between the two. Yet it was built on lies. Lance didn’t budge as Ethan whispered toxic nothings into his ear. With each one, the sweet cooling burn of alcohol brought Lance peace.
“You can head to bed I’ll be there eventually.”
“Okay, Lance I’ll be knocked out in two seconds.”
“Mhmm.”
It was silent as Lance let his head hit the table his body trembles as sobs erupted from his throat knowing at this point he was officially lost.
The growing sounds of footsteps neared as Lance felt a hand on his leg, “Lance?”
Immediately wiping his tears he did his best to smile and make perfect eye contact, “Yes...”
Keith. Shit.
“Come here.”
Lance threw himself onto Keith knocking him to the ground, Keith fully flushed he hugged Lance back. Lance pulled back wiping at his beautiful skin to remove the tears.
Keith cupped Lance’s face, “Wanna stay in my room tonight?”
Lance hesitated, “Ethan will get mad at me.”
“Then let him. Judging by the fact your ring is now gone that’s enough for you to be your own person again.”
Keith held Lance’s hand tightly, not in a rough controlling manner but rather guiding and secure.
The door slid open to reveal a neat room other than a desk overflowing his papers.
Lance sat on the desk, “Nice room, Mullet.”
Keith smirked, “This is longer and more grown out than any mullet I’ve ever seen.”
“It’s a nickname dummy.”
The playful banter was back without even the tiniest bit of effort. Yet it grew quiet.
“I overheard you earlier, the fighting. Why do you stay?”
“I have nowhere else to go and... what about the people they’d be under a foolish ruler?”
Keith looked at Lance with the most serious expression, “It’s not your job to be his sex slave and be a ruler for him. Your his husband, not his accountant.”
“So?”
“So leave him.”
“Runaway how could I possibly do that?”
“You still train right?”
“Yes? Why?”
“Come with me to the BOM, be my right hand again. I missed having stability.”
Lance slowly took Keith's hand, it was a comfortable silence.
“I’d like that.”
The tone, the small smile, the taunt in his eyes, the fall of his perfect curls, it sent Keith into overdrive.
Keith took Lance’s hands intertwining their fingers and pushing him back further on the desk knocking papers off Lance not in the slightest bit phased just started breathlessly at Keith.
“Tell me no.”
“Yes.”
Lance leaned into Keith's lips melting together like butter. Perfection. And yet they only wanted more. Lance pulled Keith down onto him. It was hot, very hot. Sincereness was something Lance had long forgotten yet now it’s driving him wild. Keith pushed himself onto Lance who opens his mouth letting out a groan. Slipping his tongue inside Keith's mouth Lance wanted to draw out that noise, that beautiful noise he’s always dreamed of bitting and leaving a beautiful mark on Keith's collar bone was enough to retrieve that sound.
“Lance-“
Keith slid his hand to Lance’s throat kissing him so rough Lance felt like he was flying, the pressure on his neck stimulated him and all he could do was moan into Keith's mouth.
Keith let himself teasingly play eoth Lance’s tongue before pulling away and kissing him softly on the lips. Leaving a trail of kisses to the crook of his jawline Keith declared this was his promise to Lance. Every kiss will be from love, from burning desire to cherish each and every inch of the beautiful blue boy. Lance smirked cupping Keith's face kissing him compassionately and quickly running his fingers between the strands of Keith's beautiful long locks before tugging at them and as Keith let out a moan Lance roughly made sure that Keith wasn’t letting out that moan. All while grinding on one another both visibly hard. Keith softly kissed Lance all over the face and mainly on the cheek he could tell Ethan had slapped.
Keith smiled, “Am I the one Ethan was scared about?”
“He has nothing to be scared about. He already knew he lost.”
Keith kisses Lance one last time respecting his boundaries leading him to bed. Lance begins to take off his jewelry and clothes which he had a lot to make sure he maintained his physique.
“You wearing Earth clothing tomorrow by the way.”
Lance smiled softly, “May I lock the door by the way?”
“Way ahead of you I locked it when we came in.”
Lance laughed, it felt good after so long.
It was quiet Lance looked up to Keith, “Don’t let me go back.”
Keith softly kissed Lance even their lips were a perfect match together, “The only place your going back to is my base where you’ll work far away from that asshole.”
Lance smiled comfy under the sheets as Keith curled up onto him, an arm wrapped around Keith the other under his head. Slowly he fell asleep. Oh boy, what a night.

27 Dresses Hunk/Pidge AU
Hello fellow peanut butter cookie shippers! I am here to bring you an absolutely insane au based on a slightly older romcom, and I apologize for everything.
Also if you've seen the movie, I'm taking a few liberties. Sorry.
@hidge-week
so first, we have our main character, 'Jane,' played by Pidge. She has been a bridesmaid in 27 weddings, and kept the dresses to all of them. She is also madly in love with her boss, Lance, but I'll get to how this is still Punk later. She absolutely loved weddings, and for her wedding, wants basically her parents' wedding. Also because her mom died when she was little, she helped take care of Matt. Also loves weddings, hopeless romantic, desperately waiting for her wedding.
next we've got Hunk, who plays the role of 'Kevin,' a slightly cynical guy on the surface who writes the section about some random weddings in the newspaper. He desperately wants an actual article though. I
Matt plays Pidge's sibling. Keith plays Hunk's friend. Allura plays Pidge's friend. Shiro plays Pidge and Matt's dad.
action!
So one night, Pidge has got two weddings to split her time between. So she's hopping between two weddings, obviously a little stressed, mostly because she's bridesmaiding for both. Yeah. Oh, and did I mention she's maid of honor for both because she did almost everything for both weddings? So anyway, at the flower toss for one of them, she almost catches the bouquet, but she gets bumped out of the way, bumped into the floor, and straight up passes out.
When she comes to, there's Hunk. Her friends, uh, Shay and Allura are there fussing over Pidge, and Hunk sends them away to do something or other to get them to give her space. Once Pidge is up and ready for war again, he helps her out to her can and rides home with her and makes sure she gets home safe and all that. Unfortunately, she forgets her planner that notes her wedding dates and stuff. He tries to get her attention, but she's already gone.
he looks through it cause he's curious, accidentally brings it up to his boss, uh, Iverson the next day, gets assigned a news article about it cause 7 weddings in 1 year? Dang, she must be devoted, that's a good story there.
hunk keeps calling Pidge so he could give back her planner, but she ignores it for one reason or another. Anyway, at the next wedding where she's bridesmaiding, Matt tags along, Allura almost convinces her to confess to Lance, as and Matt and Lance fall in love. RIP Pidge.
Pidge calls Hunk and asks if they could go out and get coffee or something, and Hunk TRIES to help Pidge learn to say no after he gave her her planner.
Hunk says he is writing an article about the Lance/Matt wedding to get info on Pidge for his article, there's a dress show off montage, they kind of slowly fall in love, Hunk finishes the article, but asks Iverson not to publish it because he knows there's more to the story, they go to get decorations, and Hunk finds out how hard she's pining for Lance, they get stuck in the rain and go to a bar to hopefully get decent service, they don't, but they sing some crazy song, go to a coffee the next morning, and first they get told good job with that song, then Pidge finds out about the article, which was in fact published. She gets super mad.
heads home, Matt's kind of annoyed, but more good spirited than the sister was in the movie. Mostly just finds it hilarious.
Matt does something to really get Pidge mad mad mad mad. She destroys the lies Matt told Lance to try and portray himself well. Wedding's called off, Hunk gives Pidge a digital planner. Shiro helps Pidge and Matt settle their arguing. Lance and Pidge end up dates to some event, Pidge realizes there's no chemistry there, but there is with Hunk, goes to find him and it's at some wedding, and because she was relatively famous in the local wedding circuit because of that article, bride helps out.  Pidge and Hunk kiss, and we day forward a year or two. Hunk works on actual articles regularly now, Keith's took over Hunk's old job, and is there to document the Punk wedding. Allura meets him, and they plan a date immediately. Lance and Matt meet and start a new relationship on truths, and Pidge has so many bridesmaids. The bride from all the weddings she bridesmaided for, plus Allura, and maybe Matt if we ignore logic. Pidge and Hunk make their vows, kiss, credits roll.
Yes, I know I missed a lot, but the post was long enough already, and I've already spent more time on this than is necessary.

back to square one
read on ao3
Pidge was stubborn.
She was not supposed to enter the Garrison with uneven chopped off hair, her brother's glasses and her mother's confidence then change her name and create a new identity for it was technically against the law.
But she did.
When she finally got a lead into finding her brother, all logic was immediately thrown away as she hopped onto green without hesitation. For practicality and her own safety, Shiro suggested that she shouldn't go alone.
But she did.
Allura's sacrifice left the universe safe but broke the hearts of many. Though, no one was as broken as Lance who mourned alone and specifically told everyone that he wanted to be alone as he tried his hardest not to let anyone break his walls.
But she did, just like what he did to hers when they were only cadets.
A lot could change in three years. Feelings even.
The world had stopped, his feet on the sand and view of the sun setting completely forgotten as he stared at another sunset colored view. Whoever decided that brown wasn't as gorgeous as the other eye colors were either blind or just a whole idiot. All of Lance's life he used to think sunset was the most beautiful view but seeing Pidge's eyes, the sun had some competition.
Their faces were so close that he could see every little freckle on her face. He felt her breath touch his lips and he shivered. His voice came out softer than it should, "I'm still a mess, Katie. You shouldn't."
But she did, he was glad she did.
The team found a way to possibly bring Allura back. Laws of physics were hard to battle with but if being a part of Voltron ever teach them anything other than becoming stronger, it was that everything fictional can be turned into reality. So, they figured it out– time travel.
It required several complicated technology. First, a wormhole, then a power crystal, a lot of patience, and some other parts that he completely missed because of so many thoughts clouding his mind.
They were getting Allura back. Seeing her smile wouldn't only just be limited to his dreams now. The thought filled his chest with a familiar warmth, though it felt a little different. It wasn't as strong as when he last had it.
After everything was built, there was one last thing that they needed in order for the plan to succeed.
A team. The standard Garrison flight team, a group of three who would go into the wormhole and execute the plan, travel back in time in their own universe and prevent Allura from sacrificing herself.
A highly dangerous task, not only because they were going to be meddling with the laws of space and time, but also because there was only an 80% chance that the teludav would work. Sure, the Holts have stabilized earth teludavs for travel when it came to distance, but time was another thing. There was still a 20% chance that whoever would enter it may never come back.
No one in the Atlas even bat an eye when Shiro volunteered to be in the mission first. Some showed a look of concern, but there weren't any look of surprise in sight. Then, he asked Keith to come with him, in which he accepted without hesitation. A lot could change in five years, some dynamics stayed the same, though. Lance chuckled to himself.
When Shiro's eyes fell on him, a sense of understanding came through. It made sense for Lance to be a part of the team, he was the closest to Allura next to Coran. He knew what to do and what not to do in order for the mission to succeed.
Out of the corner of his eyes, a familiar small figure stood up before he could even move.
His breath stopped. Most of the time, Pidge showing her daring personality would make butterflies fill Lance's stomach up to his chest. Right then, it made the butterflies tear down his organs.
"Pidge, don't." He begged, desperately.
But she still did it.
Her calloused hands lacked warmth, but he provided, holding it gently as he watched her chest rise and fall continuously. The cold metal seat beside her bed was rather uncomfortable, but he couldn't care less. Nothing but the humming of machine filled the silence of the infirmary.
God, he missed her voice. He would do anything to hear her laugh, rambles, even her snarky yet endearing remarks again.
The moment they turned on the teludav, his gut immediately told him to try and stop the team's shuttles to enter it. He did not listen to it, unfortunately.
When the shuttles entered slowly, chaos occurred faster than what his eyes could see. All he could remember was the teludav shutting down, horrified shouts of panic as the wormhole released an insane amount of power and almost destroyed Pidge's shuttle, almost destroyed her.
Red. Everything was red.
Tightening his hold of her hand, the memory of her pale and almost lifeless body in his arms flashed through his mind. An uncomfortable shiver ran down his spine. It had been almost a week,  a week of him watching a stupid machine count her heartbeat, hoping that her eyes would open with every rise of her heart rate. It was kind of ironic how just a month ago, he was practically begging her to take a nap.
"It's 2 am, Pidge."
"And?" Her hand continued to type something on her tablet before zooming in on a picture of the plant in front of her. Scanning it carefully, her eyes blinked slowly once, twice.
Lance let out a sigh. "Sleep. Please?" He wrapped his arms around her from the back, resting his head on top of hers and his chin almost hitting the bobby pins he put on her hair earlier. "Come on, I'll let you hog both blankets tonight." He never restricted her from hogging any blanket ever. Why they had two was the result of Pidge hogging their blanket multiple nights, they decided to get another so they could have one each. She ended up hogging both of them.
Putting down her tablet, she seemed to ease up, melting into his embrace. "Play with my hair until I fall asleep and you got yourself a deal."
Kissing her head, he couldn't help but chuckle. "Anything for you, hermosa."
His eyes never left her petite form, he was so focused, desperately looking for signs of her awaking that he didn't even notice someone had entered the room.
"Lance, you should eat." He recognized the voice without looking.
"Maybe later, Veronica."
"You said that earlier." The sound of footsteps approached him. A hand then reached his shoulder but he didn't flinch. "Come on, she'll be okay."
They both knew it wasn't the truth, but it wasn't a lie either. Earth healing pods did so little to help her heal. All her physical bruises and cuts were nowhere to be seen, making her look like she was just taking a nap after a long day, but internal damages were still there and no one was sure when or if she would wake up.
"I don't want her alone when she wakes up."
His sister sighed. "She'd want you to chose your health over her, you know?"
He flinched at her words.
Everyone was working hard to perfect everything for the mission, but Lance was working harder than anyone. He made sure to help in building the teludav in any way he could. He stayed up all day and night helping Coran and Shiro plan everything out as if the idea of rest did not exist. He would get frustrated whenever there was a day without progress, blaming himself for not trying hard enough, for letting Allura sacrifice herself in the first place. If he had only held her tighter, made her happy enough to stay.
He was back to square one.
He was losing himself and the people around him again.
Even the one he cared about the most.
"You don't understand, Pidge!" Lance swung his arm like a mad man.
"I do understand! We all want Allura back and we're doing everything we can as fast as our bodies can handle." She stepped closer, trying to soften her tone but failing miserably after the first word. "You're the one who used to tell me all the time that overworking is bad and shit while yours here obviously need some fucking rest. Stop being a hypocrite, Lance, you don't need to torture yourself like this!"
It was supposed to be a peaceful night. She invited him to her lab to help with some last minute adjustments for the mission. In the middle of progress, she suggested for them to take a break, get some sleep and continue tomorrow for a day was enough to get everything settled. On normal days, he would be relieved to know that his overworked significant other finally understood how important taking breaks were.
That night, he was the one who refused. One thing led to another and then they were screaming at each other as if they weren't five feet apart.
"You just don't want all of this to work, not as much as I do!" His voice cracked.
"Wha– May I remind you that this mission was my idea! I'm the one working my butt off just to mimic an altean teludav, why the quiznack would you think I don't want this to work?"
"I don't know, maybe because once Allura's back, you're afraid I'm gonna choose her over you?"
Pidge froze.
The look of pure shock on her face calmed him down, but the tears forming in her eyes was what made him finally come to his senses. Realization hit and regret washed over him.
"Katie..." He breathed, voice shaking, "That's not what I meant."
Her hands clenched so hard, nails could mark her skin. It looked like she was about to scream but took a deep breath instead. Fists slowly opening, her eyes softened, trying to blink away the tears but ending up making them fall down her cheek. A lump formed in his throat.
All he wanted to do right then was cup her face and wipe all her tears away. So he did. His heart dropped to his stomach when she immediately pulled away from his touch.
"Don't worry, I've already accepted my faith as a fucking consolation price. What am I compared to your first love, right?" She held herself tightly the way she would whenever she was missing her family or losing hope during the war. The urge to embrace her got stronger but he held himself back.
When he finally found his voice again, it came out unbelievably weak. "Consolation price? What, you think I'm using you as a rebound?"
"Am I not?" She scoffed.
"No!" The anger somehow came back. This time, it wasn't at her, but purely at himself and he couldn't do anything but scream it out. "Dammit, Katie, you think I would go that low? You're not a rebound! I've never–"
"Well, it doesn't feel like it! You barely talked to me these past few weeks and when you do, it's either about this mission or nothing else." Her voice cracked as well as something in his chest. Her shoulders were trembling then, more and more tears fell from her expressive eyes. "I trust that you wouldn't do something like that, Lance, I do. I just couldn't help but feel like I'm fifteen again, pining over a friend who couldn't fucking see me even though I'm right in front of them the whole time. It's like I'm back to square one and it sucks!"
An uncomfortable, heavy silence filled the room. Lance opened his mouth but nothing came out of it.
She was feeling like that all this time and he didn't even notice. Even the small changes, were the bags under her eyes always that big? Why was her hair messier than usual? Oh, right. He would usually fix it for her whenever he would catch her at her lab during lunch time. When was the last time he had checked up on her? His chest got heavier as he realized that he couldn't remember.
Pidge was not a consolation price. She was his everything, but he hadn't been treating her like she was and that made him sick. He didn't even realize he was crying until he looked down and the tears finally dropped.
She broke the heavy silence with another humorless scoff. "Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if you do end up choosing her. I'm more concerned about you choosing her over your damn self again." A beat. "You're important too, Lance. You don't have to break yourself."
Pidge aggressively rubbed her nose on the sleeve of her lab coat before walking away. Lance couldn't do anything but watch her back, leaving him feeling emptier than a void.
"It's my fault"
"No." Veronica pulled a chair beside her brother and looked him dead in the eye. "We talked about this. It wasn't your fault the teludav was unstable."
"Still, I shouldn't have let her go to that mission. I should have tried harder to reason with Shiro to let me join the team instead but I didn't!"
"Lance, listen to me, it is not your fault she chose to be a part of it."
His eyes started to sting. "It is. She knew the teludav wasn't a hundred percent safe, she knew Shiro would pick me to be on the mission, she knew and she took my place. God, I should have told her to stay when we met at the hangar–"
"There was no other choice, she knew every part of the shuttles and the teludav more than any of us. We all knew it wasn't a hundred percent safe and it would never be because of how primitive earth technology is, that's why we only put three people in the mission. We had to take risks."
Risking her life for another wasn't worth it, even if it was Allura. The Princess sacrificed herself just for them to live, it would go against everything that she did for the universe if even one of them give up their life. He would rather have all his efforts go to waste than lose Pidge. Not once did he not regret how it took him almost losing her just for him to realize this.
Minutes before the mission, Lance found himself walking to the shuttle's hangar. It could be his imagination but his feet were heavier than usual.
Still, he wanted to see her.
It was only yesterday when they had their big fight but that didn't mean their little tradition shouldn't be done. It was kind of their thing whenever one of them was part of a mission or just having a trip, whether out of town or out of earth, they would do something sappy. If they were in a public place like an airport, the one getting left behind would have to create a scene, pretending like they haven't confessed their feelings and they got to before the other could get on the plane, just like in every classic 2000s romcom which both Lance and Pidge were a fan of. Though, Pidge just liked them only because they were easy to make fun of.
Whenever they were alone, though, they would just give each other see you later kisses until one of them really had to go.
Perhaps they wouldn't be able to do that right then because of their recent misunderstandings, but he at least wanted to wish her a safe flight.
Pidge in her old Voltron uniform was the first thing he saw when he entered the hangar. Earth armors were no where near as advance as the Altean ones so the former paladins had the smart decision to keep theirs in case of highly dangerous missions like this happening.
His heart skipped a beat at the sight. It was weird yet somehow nostalgic seeing her in that green armor again. In a way, she looked different yet still wonderfully the same. She grew a little taller, had a little more figure, but she still had those big curious eyes and short hair, though, a little less choppy. Many have praised her "glow up," saying things like late puberty really turned her from an ugly duckling to a swan. This claim had always confused Lance because for him, she had always been beautiful.
"Hey."
She turned to him, helmet in hand, with wide eyes as if his presence was unexpected. "Lance, hi."
"Everything settled?" He took a careful step closer.
"Mhm. Just waiting for Shiro's command."
For the the first time in forever, Lance was at lost for words. Usually, this would be the time he would give her a big hug and kiss her everywhere, but the atmosphere was telling him otherwise. The fight was still fresh for both of them and he could tell just by the way she was avoiding eye his eyes. They weren't screaming, though, that was a good sign.
He found his voice again after a moment. "You're not gonna tie your hair back?"
At this point, he was just desperate for any conversation to happen. His question was genuine, though. After the war, Pidge specifically chose to keep her hair short. She tried growing it out the first few months of post Voltron but with all the Garrison work and the stress of rebuilding earth, she really didn't have time to take care of her hair.
Whenever she wouldn't have the time to chop it off, she would just stick to tying it half up half down. Sometimes, Lance would help her out and play with her hair, doing small braids and styling which both of them enjoyed. He'd usually style it in a way that her bangs wouldn't bother her.
Pidge blew her bangs away from her face. "I mean, it would get messed up by the helmet anyway."
"You sure? You're not gonna throw a tantrum once your bangs fall on your face in a difficult situation?" He was already searching his pockets for bobby pins. There was two.
She let out a hearty laugh for the first time since yesterday and he never felt so blessed. "That I won't guarantee."
"Can I?"
"Yes, please."
Lance then grabbed a bobby pin and carefully put her bangs away from her face. He used his teeth to open up a pin before securing it on her hair. "There." He said, gently tucking a side of hair to her ear.
Their eyes met. "Thanks." She said softly.
For a moment, he though she was going to say something. Lance himself was hesitant to even move even though he was dying to kiss her right then and there. If only the weight of yesterday's argument could be thrown away even just for a second, he would hold her tight in his arms and tell her how sorry he was, but something was telling him that it wasn't the time... or was it? "Katie..."
"5 minutes before take off! Team, time to get on the ship." Shiro's voice bombarded the speakers in the hangar.
Pidge took a deep breath. "Well, I better go." She gave a small smile.
"Y–Yeah. Yeah, of course."
After a beat, she gave him a nod and immediately turned back. Lance's hand itched, he wanted nothing more but to grab her hand and pull her in his arms but she was already walking away. She wasn't gonna turn back and his heart sunk at the thought.
His fist clenched. Perhaps the atmosphere wasn't right, the fight was still clear in their heads but they were adults god dammit, they were better than this, Lance was better than this. If he wanted to say something then he would.
He was about to open his mouth when she suddenly stopped. Dropping her helmet, Pidge ran to his arms, wrapping her short ones around his neck. He held her with all his strength, burying his face onto her shoulder.
It was just like the movies but better. Maybe they weren't gonna break tradition after all.
"You couldn't resist me, huh?" He asked fondly and felt her chuckle.
"Obviously"
A moment later, they finally pulled away yet stayed so close as if it would be a sin to move away even just a little.
"I'm gonna bring her back." Pidge said, looking straight into his eyes. There was determination in her voice and it somehow scared him for a reason he couldn't tell.
He cupped her face tenderly. "Just promise you'll come back safely too, yeah?"
"Lance..."
"Please."
A heavy sigh, then a nod. "If– When I come back, we're gonna fix this, fix us, okay?"
Lance kissed her forehead as a subtle promise. "We will."
"I love you, Katie." He didn't say it the last time and it was another thing to add to Lance's list of biggest regrets.
He tightened his hold of her hand. Lance was both quite vocal and physical when showing affection to someone, but with Pidge, it was a little different. They had this unspoken rule that I love yous would only be said during intimate moments and never used as an indirect good bye. Not once did they said it during their sappy see you later shenanigans.
She wanted their I love yous to be special and he respected that. Sometimes though, he really just wanted scream it to the world. In this case, say it to her multiple times in hopes of her getting annoyed unconsciously and waking up to maybe pout at him. He really was desperate.
They were alone once again. Veronica left a while ago to get some food. It took a lot of convincing, but he eventually agreed to at least have some snack only because Hunk was back on earth and was preparing some food for everyone. Hunk knew about what happened prior to his visit and was as- or even more -devastated as everyone. He went to check on Pidge three days after the incident and of course, a few tears were shed, but immediately forced himself to get his crap together because he believed- knew she would be okay. Lance had been telling himself the same thing over and over again. For the first few days, he was full of hope but as the days passed, it started to fade slowly.
Lance gave her hand a soft kiss. "I love you so much. Please, hermosa, wake up and say it back."
Pidge was stubborn.
Every doctor said the chances of her waking up after the incident was little to none. Her heart rate wasn't supposed to rise, she wasn't supposed to move and open her eyes, weakly hold his hand back and call out his name softly.
But she did, he was glad she did.
For Lance, it felt like they were back to square one and surely this time, he would use this fresh start to do everything that he wasn't able to.
Starting with loving her better.

I Saw Daddy Kissing Santa Claus
Here’s some Christmas fluff!
ao3
Keith hissed out in pain as he stepped on one of his kids’ toys. Kicking it out of the way, he tiptoed his way to where the presents were hidden. He held his breath as he opened the closet door, praying it wouldn’t squeak.
He sighed in relief when it opened without a sound, reaching up to grab the presents. Lucero was too old to believe in Santa but he knew she still enjoyed the tradition of it. Plus, Aryl still believed and it was always great to have her big sister help and make sure she wasn’t camping out on the couch to catch Santa like she always did.
Arms filled with presents, enough to have obscured his vision with how many were stacked in his arms. He crept his way to the living room, taking care of the squeaky floorboards.
His heart almost leaped out of his throat when two gloved hands took the top three presents from his pile. He was this close to dropping everything to the ground and waking up the entire house.
“Carino, why are you bringing all of these presents at once, you’re going to drop everything!” his husband whispered at him, muffled by a fluffy white beard.
“I wouldn’t drop anything if you would stop scaring me!” he furiously whispered back.
“You wouldn’t drop anything at all if you just took things in smaller batches!”
“That would take more trips, which means it would take longer, which means a higher chance of getting caught!” At this point, they were just softly yelling at each other in the middle of the night. Keith sighed, walked as carefully as he could to set the presents under the tree.
Lance followed him, putting the presents next to his. “Well, now I’m here to help so it should go faster. And we won’t drop the presents because we would take smaller batches each.”
Keith snorted softly, smirking. “But it would go faster if we each took a lot of presents at once.”
Silence.
He turned to see his bearded husband illuminated by the colorful Christmas lights. Still decked out in the Santa suit but giving his best deadpan face he can manage through a fake beard and a hat. It only served to make Keith laugh. Lance’s eyebrows, while smudged, was still white from when they dressed him up for the kids. “I hate you, you know that?”
Soft chuckles escaped him. Leaning forward, he grabbed the end of the beard and tugged it down past Lance’s lips, giving them a soft peck. “No, you don’t.”
Lance sighed, shoulders drooping. “No, I don’t.”
Keith patted his cheek before putting his beard back up. “Why are you still wearing that?”
His husband stood up and stretched, groaning. Keith had to smother a laugh behind his hand. He was still wearing the fake stomach.
“It’s to preserve the magic, Keith. What if Aryl comes down and sees not Santa putting presents under the tree but her dads? The Christmas magic will be ruined for her forever!”
Keith took his time standing back up. His eyes going to the rumpled Santa suit, the belly showing a bit below the jacket, the extra of the belt from the fake stomach sticking out. He clicked his tongue. “You’re stuck aren’t you.”
“…Yes.”
Laughing he took his husband’s face between his palms and kissed him through the beard. “Did you wear that driving Matt and Pidge home?”
“They were both drunk off their asses, and so hard to get back into their own apartment!” Lance complained, “Keith, sweetheart, here’s a kid in that building that saw Santa dragging two dead elf bodies around!”
Keith leaned forward to muffle his laugh into Lance’s shoulder, somehow despite being a rental, smelled like snow and cinnamon. Must be the Christmas magic. “Why didn’t you take it off before you drove them?”
Lance quietly groaned, but Keith could still see a mile behind all the bluster. “I don’t knooww, it didn’t feel like I had any time to do it!”
Hand covering his mouth to muffle his laugh he somehow managed to get out, “Well, let’s get the rest of the presents and I’ll help you get out of the suit.”
Lance wiggled his painted brows at him. “Oh ho ho ho.”
“Pppfftt, you’re such a dork.”
His husband’s eyes gleamed in the dim light, reaching out to cradle the back of his head, the other around his back. Keith grinned, wrapping his own arms around Lance’s neck. “But you love me.”
Keith grinned up at him, heart filled to the brim with love for this man. “I do.”
They laughed through the kiss. It was difficult to really kiss through the small mouthpiece of the beard, even if it was taped down to Lance’s face. Fake hair got in his mouth and they were smiling too wide for it to really count as a kiss, but it was perfect all the same.
The house creaked as it settled into the winter night, warm and cozy.
“I love you, mi amor. Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas, Lance.”
 -
  Meanwhile…
Aryl launched herself at her big sister.
Lucy screamed but Aryl covered her mouth with her hand, cutting it off. Lucy sounded really super mad, muffled noises behind her hand not stopping despite her shushes.
She found herself being rolled off her sister to be planted onto the bed. “Aryl!” Lucy hissed at her, “What are you doing? It’s—“ the bed rustled when Lucy rolled over to look at the clock. “—Midnight!”
Aryl scrambled to her knees, eyes wide as she grabbed her big sis by the shoulders. “I saw daddy kissing Santa Claus!”
Lucy shushed her and she lowered her voice, heart still pounding from what she saw. “Not so loud. Now, what happened?”
Aryl could feel her eyes well up with tears. “I—I was just going to try and see him. See if he comes back but when I went downstairs I saw daddy kissing him!”
The tears started spilling over, falling like raindrops onto Lucy’s bedspread. Aryl sniffed and tried to wipe them away. “Daddy’s having an… an affair. Papí’s gonna find out and they’re gonna get divorced!”
Lucy snorted. “How—do you even know what an affair is?”
Aryl glared at her through her tears. “I know what an affair is Lucero! I watch TV! It’s not funny!”
Sighing, her sister tugged her down, pulling the blankets up to their necks and held her close. Aryl huddled close, wrapper her arms around Lucy as she let her tears soak into her sister’s pjs.
“They’re not gonna get a divorce Aryl. I’m sure it was just a misunderstanding. You know how like… you know how like some people kiss each other on the cheeks to say hello?”
Aryl nodded, eyes still closed and tears gone.
“Maybe it’s just a North Pole thing. Like that’s their way of saying hello. We can ask in the morning, alright?”
“…Alright.”
“Good. Now get some sleep.” Aryl felt Lucy kiss her forehead. She could feel herself falling asleep, the warmth of her sister and the ordeal she been through left her tired. She was just about to nod off when Lucy said, “Besides, don’t you want Santa as a step-dad?”
“No!”

Remember how I said I had deaf!Keith headcanons...
I have TWO deaf!Keith au ideas that will probably never get around to writing but I’m throwing them down right here because I need them out of my brain so I can do some actual writing, kay? (Both are Klance btw)
It’s long so it’s under the cut. Feel free to leave comments, thoughts, etc in the replies since my ask box is still closed haha.
Born deaf Keith AU (not as angsty)
Parents figured it out a little late as he wouldn’t respond to them when they talked. But he was always watching them intently, his stubby little baby fingers on their mouths.
Gets his first hearing aid at two. Cries when he hears his parent’s voices for the first time.
He doesn’t like it when people stare at his hearing aids, so he keeps them out for the longest time when at school.
Falls behind in middle school because he can’t hear the lecture-only teachers and they talk too fast for him to figure it out via lipreading. And since he’s not a particularly outgoing kid he doesn’t ask others for their notes.
Shiro becomes his tutor. He’s fluent in sign language as his brother is deaf. Keith comes to admire Shiro a lot and starts wearing his aids again but growing his hair out to hide them.
He’s one of the smartest kids in the high school. Has a few friends but he doesn’t talk. He doesn’t like the sound of his voice when he does talk so he avoids it. They chalk it up to him being introverted since they don’t know about his deafness.
Meets Lance in high school and it’s rocky. Lance thinks Keith’s a pretentious straight-A asshole who was ignoring him when he asked a question about his notes (he couldn’t hear him sometimes he just doesn’t wear his aids) so they don’t get along at first.
Lance throws things at Keith sometimes and shoots rude glares at him. Keith then begins to actively ignore him.
Lance catches him adjusting his aids in his seat and stares perplexed. What the hell are those? Is he listening to music in class? Typical. The straight-A student gets to do whatever he wants because he’s so smart.
More animosity.
Someone comes to talk to Keith at the school about colleges and asks Lance for his classroom. Lance points the way, shocked that Keith talks to anyone since he doesn’t think he’s ever heard Keith speak even once. He watches as they have a conversation with his hands with confusion.
What the hell? Keith’s deaf? Why didn’t he just say that? He never would have picked a fight with him if he’d known.
Keith signs at him ‘But you still would have picked a fight with me if I’d been able to hear? I shouldn’t have to tell you that I’m deaf for you to be a decent fucking human being.’
Lance leaves Keith alone for a while. Keith thinks he’s finally gotten Lance off his case.
Several weeks later Lance taps Keith’s shoulder and asks if they can talk. He does a whole practiced bunch of sign language to apologize.
Signs out ‘I wanted to tell you I’m sorry. I should have been nicer, regardless of your hearing. I was terrible and you don’t have to forgive me but can I tell you why I got so mad at you?’  Keith nods, arms crossed and waiting for an explanation. ‘Do you have your hearing aids in?’ Keith nods again so Lance speaks to Keith. ‘I have a big family and uh, I love them but the worst thing about it is sometimes it feels like no one’s listening to you. Like no one is hearing you even when you scream. It’s annoying and they’re not even doing it intentionally. So when it felt like you were ignoring me on purpose it got me frustrated. And angry. You don’t talk much but I get the feeling you know the feeling. Being ignored or not listened to…sucks.’ Keith admits that true with a nod. ‘So can we start again?’ he asks and signs out ‘want to be friends?’
Keith and Lance start over. Lots of talking on Lance’s end and lots of listening on Keith’s.
Lance does some tutoring with Keith and Shiro to bring his grades back up. He learns a little sign language by proxy. Sometimes Shiro will teach him some when they finish their lessons.
Lance and Keith start having conversations at school with sign, their friendship growing. He stops caring if people know if he’s deaf. Leaves his hair long in case he wants to cover them but starts wearing his hair in a tail so people can see his hearing aids without feeling embarrassed.
People ask Lance how to say things to Keith. They want to talk to Keith too. Now Keith’s got lots of school friends eager to talk to him.
Lance starts falling for Keith over the summer break. They hang out regularly with Keith’s super smart friends from other schools. (Pidge and Allura from an all girls school and Hunk from another school) YAY! THE SQUAD!
By the end of high school they’re both in love (BECAUSE I LIKE A HAPPY ENDING DAMN IT)
Not born deaf Keith (ANGSTY TW: PHYSICAL ABUSE and BULLYING)
He was a really quiet infant and toddler, almost never opening his mouth to speak. But then his parents died in an accident and he stopped talking period.
He was shuttled off to a foster home and was teased relentlessly by other kids for not talking. He knows how but he doesn’t want to. He just wants to be left alone. He gets into fights with the kids until he’s moved to a different home.
The second home is worse. The kids don’t pick on him but one of the adults beats him regularly when he doesn’t answer or doesn’t do what he’s told.
He takes a beating so bad he has to be taken to the hospital. It’s so bad that he ruptured both eardrums and loses his hearing.
Keith gets moved to a new home again, this one with an older couple, one of them deaf. They try to teach him sign but he’s obstinate. He figures he’ll just be shuttled off again when he’s too inconvenient for them. But things get better. They’re nicer than the last few homes.
He gets teased in middle school about his hearing aids but it doesn’t last long when he beats up his bullies.
One of the older couple passes away. As much as they want to keep them she can’t take care of all her foster kids on her own. They’re all sent out to new homes.
The newest home isn’t bad but it’s not great either. The parents do the bare minimum but they don’t beat him and the other kids give him his space. Better than nothing. He starts high school in the fall.
Lance comes into the school two weeks late. Just moved. Settles into the class pretty well but takes note of Keith who always seems to sit alone at the back of the class.
He notices that people tend to avoid the deaf kid but some of them mess with him. Throw paper airplanes and such at him. He sits alone at lunch. And the kid never talks. Not even to the teachers about the bullying that’s clearly going on.
Lance sees Keith getting beat up after school. They take out his hearing aid and toss it around. Keith’s about to just leave without it until an enraged Lance decks the head honcho. He returns Keith his hearing aid that he puts back in.
‘I didn’t ask you to help me’ Keith writes in a small steno pad. ‘Why did you do that?’
‘I don’t need a reason to help someone’ Lance tells him. ‘Besides those scumbags had it coming…taking someone’s means to navigate the world around them. No mercy.’
Keith keeps an eye out for Lance after that. Sees the way he’s constantly helping people and teachers with anything they need. Turns out Lance has a blind sister who used to get teased a lot. Kids would steal her walking stick and hide it when she was little and Lance always came to her rescue.
Keith doesn’t get picked on for over a week. It’s weird. He keeps expecting the usual guys to come and try to take his hearing aids but they don’t. They seem to be preoccupied with other things now.
He asks Lance about it after a few days. Lance says he told them to leave Keith alone is all. ‘Really? That’s it and they listened to you?’ Keith asks on his steno pad. ‘Yeah’ Lance tells him with a smile. ‘I’m a very persuasive guy’
Someone tells Keith later that the reason they aren’t picking on Keith anymore is that they’re picking on Lance instead. They saw him get beat up in the locker room the other day. He had bruises all over.
Keith is furious. That nosey idiot! Doesn’t he know that if he gets hit hard enough he’ll end up just like Keith? He can’t let that happen to the only kid who’s ever been nice to him.
He overhears the beatdown behind the school. ‘What a moron, taking that deaf kid’s place’ they say and ‘what has that guy ever done for you or anyone other than scowl at them?’ and ‘why are you even helping him? He your boyfriend?’  Lance just answers ‘I don’t need a reason to help someone, so just…leave him alone.”
Keith slams the door open and they drop Lance to the floor. Keith readies his fists but the group laughs. They’re done there so they leave. Keith helps Lance up off the floor and to the nurses office. (The nurse thinks for a hot second that Keith beat him up but Lance assures them it wasn’t him.)
Once they’re sure there’s no permanent damage Keith angrily signs at him. Lance doesn’t understand. He uses the notebook instead. ‘You’re an idiot. A moron. You could have gotten hurt, badly hurt. You have friends and family. You shouldn’t get beat up for me.’ But Lance says that’s his choice to make, not Keith’s.
After that Keith doesn’t let Lance out of his sight. Hell if he’s getting beat again because of Keith. That works two fold because the bullies don’t want to mess with two people at once since there’s a chance they could lose. Keith and Lance together is too much of a gamble to risk.
Being together all the time after that, Lance talks with Keith regularly in his notebook. Then he learns some sign language to talk more. Keith actually starts smiling at school after that and Lance’s new friend turns into his new crush.
The one time the bully group tries to take them both the bullies fail spectacularly. Keith and Lance trounce them (suffering a few bruises for their troubles). In their victory, they kiss. After that they begin dating.
They make it through high school without any more hiccups. Keith’s never been happier. They end up going to the same college so they won’t be split up. Because as formidable as the are on their own, they’re best as a team. (BECAUSE I LIKE A HAPPY ENDING OKAY??)

Snipets of a Red Ranger and Blue Ranger- Klance Week Day 4
I’m a simple girl, I see ‘Rangers’ I think Power Rangers and I am not sorry. And yes, it’s Samurai Rangers, I liked the season, sue me. @klanceweek Rangers, Cow, Lawless
Lance was restringing his bow, trying to tighten it without it snapping, which it had already done twice. Usually he wasn’t so distracted but he had a good excuse. What else was he supposed to do when he found out one of the biggest secrets the Red Samurais were hiding?
There was no easy was to explain his unique family line other than that they were the longest line of Power Rangers that existed. The appearance of some other Rangers, who hoped from the future to the past, had unintentionally unleashed another dimension filled with monsters known as Galra. Their world, the Netherworld, sat on the bank of the Sanzu River, water capable of destroying everything. A lord and his band of samurai went against these creatures and through their perseverance and using written talismans, they accessed the Morphing Grid, giving them the look and protection of the Ranger uniform and turning the talismans to Symbol Power. When the era of samurai ended, the lord made the samurai his retainers. And so, as time passed, the children would take their families place when it came time, defending their home. When the Red Ranger had first discovered a symbol to seal the Galra away, he was able to do so, allowing the group to split up and live not fighting for their lives.
They all eventually led back together back when his dad was his age. The seal had been cast again at the cost of the Red Ranger’s life, but it wasn’t strong enough. It became the next generations’ job to end this 19-generation long war. Lance didn’t think he’d be the one to be doing it. His main focus was to become one of the first biracial members of the Japanese Olympic archery team. He was close to, until every one of his siblings decided what they wanted mattered more and dumped the youngest with the responsibilities. His father tried to force him by stating that the Dragon Origami would only listen to Lance, but he that was a lie. Everyone else got off but because he was the last one, he had to obey orders. He put up a good fight, staying away from his family and proving himself to be Olympic material. But the seal officially broke the day of his biggest competition and even when he ignored the summons arrow, Lance was kidnapped by the Kuroko, the shadows who served the samurai families, and thrown into a car. He might not have wanted to be there, but he wasn’t an asshole who would walk away when people needed help. He did make his position very clear, his father had to get one of his siblings to take his place because he wouldn’t stay.
Once everyone heard his whole story, they were mostly understanding, including their leader Keith. Hearing him promise to talk to his dad almost seemed too good to be true but he’d heard him calling his dad. Then it made sense when Allura told him the big secret.
Keith, wasn’t born into the Red Ranger line, because the pervious Red and Pink ranger did the biggest no-no. they had a kid together. to make sure there was always a Ranger from each family line, they were instructed to not fall in love with one of their teammates. Keith was actually the kid of a Kuroko that somehow had caused the Lion Origami to react to him. Allura was technically the Red Ranger who could cast the Sealing Symbol. Her weekend shopping trips, were actually trips to a secret temple where ancestors of the same people who helped their lord discover the Sealing Symbol would teach it to her until it was perfect.
Keith was willing to help him, because technically he wasn’t supposed to be doing this either. He was just a stand in until the time was right. Lance still didn’t know what to do with this information. He was glad they trusted him with it, but it was only cause they all thought he’d be leaving.
“Lance?” Keith called from the other side of the door as he knocked. “Can I come in?”
“Yeah.”
Keith came in, closing the door behind him. He dropped down on Lance’s bed, looking at the mess of the low table that was covered in archery care stuff. “Guess I know why you disappeared after we got back from the baseball game.”
“It was a little league game and baseball makes no sense.” Lance threw out, feeling tense. He knew why Keith was here.
“So, Allura told me she talked to you when you guys were keeping an eye on the kid’s house.”
“Yeah, talked.”
Keith always looked so self-assured and confident, that to see him so unsure and nervous was weird.
“I hope your not upset that I’m doing this for Allura. My father was killed during a Galra attack and he was getting civilians out of harms way. Allura’s dad took me in, even when everyone said I wasn’t worth it. They kept pushing him to marry someone so he’d have a kid to carry on the Red line, but even knowing that it would be Allura, he still treated me like I was his kid. So, I don’t mind being a stand in for her. If it mostly keeps her safe, then I’ll do it.”
Lance let out a huff. “Wish my siblings cared that much. You’d give up everything to help her but everyone expects me to drop everything to make them happy. I won’t say anything, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“I know. I get why you want to leave, but the Blue line is usually the second in command and in my opinion, someone who’d still help even when he wants a way out is a pretty worthy.”
Lance was honoured. How was he supposed to still act like a spoiled child when someone who didn’t even have to led a team and take the most hits did?
“Thanks for the compliment but,” he said instead, plucking at the string on his bow, “the Olympics are waiting for me.”
“Fair enough. And thank you for keeping this secret. We’ll tell them eventually.”
“They’ll understand.” Lance reassured. He was sure they would. It would be the 4 of them against everything. He just wished he’d be there to help if it went badly.
                                                    __________
Getting mind controlled was not fun. Just that morning things were going great. He and Keith had a sparing match and he was so close to actually beating Keith and Keith told him his dad would finally come to the Samurai House and talk. Then that annoying big talking mind controlling Galra made a mess of everything. All it took was a hit and he became a mindless drone who turned his sword against his friends. He was lucky Keith was able to snap him out of it with that burst of Symbol Power but his dad thought it was a glaring sign that he needed to stay with the team. So, he might have been thinking of maybe staying but he wanted it to be his choice, not forced by his dad. And now his head hurt more.
“Lance?”
“Come in.” he called, keeping his arm over his eyes.
He heard Keith turn the light off before he felt him tap at his arm to move it. He let out a grateful groan when he felt an ice pack drop on his face.
“I’m sorry things didn’t go well with your dad.” Keith said, the bed dipping as he sat down.
“You know, I’ve actually considered staying.” Keith stilled but stayed silent, letting Lance continue. “My whole life I’ve always been the scapegoat or had things taken just to satisfy the older ones. Much as I want to, I can’t be too mad at Marco and Veronica, they had good reasons. Everyone else, not so much. I just want one major decision in my life to be made by me.”
That sat in silence as Lance calmed down and hoped his head would stop hurting before Keith asked something.
“If you do decide to stay, would you consider being my second in command?”
Lance laid there, trying to decided if Keith was serious just from his voice alone. “I’ll think about it.”
“That’s fine. Do you want me to go?”
And leave him stewing in thoughts he didn’t want to hear? Not a chance.
“Tell me about your dad.” It was the first thing that came to mind and for a moment he was gonna take it back when Keith started talking.
“He was probably one of the only Kuroko who couldn’t cook.”
                                                   ___________
In a turn of events, Lance knocked on Keith’s door. The fight against the half Galra Lotor was finally over and they were getting closer to defeating them. They’d see how much farther they could go once Shiro was able to unlock the Black Box, but for now, while Keith recovered, they could breath.
“Come in.” Lance opened the door, his eyes drawn to Keith’s exposed back as he struggled to pull his shirt off. It was getting harder and harder to not get a crush on Keith. He had to keep reminding himself that it was what got Allura’s parents into trouble in the first place. He was starting to see why they had the problem in the first place. How was he supposed to stop how he felt?
“Need help?” Lance offered.
“Sure, second-in-command.”
At dinner, he announced he’d stay with the team and publicly accepted Keith’s offer.
He was able to get Keith’s shirt off without aggravating his wounded arm too much. The view of his chest was distracting.
“I’m glad you decided to stay.” Keith said, pulling his eyes up. “It would have been hard to form the same bond with one of your siblings.”
“Yeah. I’m glad I did too. Finally feels like I can make my own decisions and not get looked down at.”
“You? Never?”
God, it was the compliments, it had to be. How else would he feel like a shy person when around Keith at times? They stood there, staring at each other when Lance couldn’t take it anymore. He kissed Keith. Keith didn’t push him away, if anything, he tried to pull him closer as he kissed back. Lance was careful as he rested his hands on Keith’s neck, not wanting to pull away when he did.
“We shouldn’t.”
“We really shouldn’t.” Keith said, using a finger to pull Lance back in and kiss him again.
This was so against the rules. Then…why did it feel so right?
                                               _______________
Lance was getting ready for bed when a quite knock came to his door. Keith slipped in when Lance opened the door. The hallway was already dark and Lance would bet that Coran would be by any minute to come check on them.
“Hi.” Keith said.
“Hey.”
The air was slightly tense. It wasn’t because of all those secret kisses and hard to keep promises about waiting until the war was over. It was what happened on that island. A small island an hour’s boat ride away that had cut off contact with the outside world because a Galra had burned a fear making talisman. The new addition to Zarkon’s crew, Sendak, had invited a Galra who believed in the blaster as opposed to the sword. It was like watching the era of samurai die, but thankfully Bandor, the same kid who led them to discover the hidden Bull Origami, had created a blaster to use with their swords. At the sight of Lotor still alive and standing had pushed Keith into overdrive. The fight had been bad and Keith got hurt. Words that Lotor said about Keith being just like him had gotten to him. Lance considered them lucky he was able to find them after Keith took off. Things were tense when the whole fight was over and they hadn’t talk anything out.
“Here.” Keith handed him a bag from LOFT. In it, was a lightweight scarf. Similar to the one Lance gave Keith as a makeshift sling and that he dropped when he went after Lotor. “I know it’s not the same colour but…”
It was red, close to the red Keith’s favourite jacket was. It was a claim and an apology.
“I shouldn’t have run off and I should have listened to you. You were right, I’m not like him, but the thing is…he’s kinda right.”
“What do you mean? Keith you can’t actually think that you care more about fighting than anything else.”
“It’s not that.” Keith started to look how he did when he first came to talk to Lance about the big secret involving him and Allura. “It’s more than just how we see fighting. It’s…down to our biology. He might have given his soul to become who he is, but…I was born like that.”
“What are you saying?”
“Lance…I’m half Galra. That’s why I kept taking Lotor’s words to heart. I didn’t want to be like him, lusting for battle.”
Half Galra? Like Lotor?
“But Coran said the House is warded against Galra. How are you not hurting right now?”
“It’s for full blooded Galra. That’s another reason most of the people who were here during your dad’s time didn’t like me. My dad was ‘spellbound’ by a female Galra. Somehow, they had be and she gave me to my dad to keep me safe.” He put spellbound in air quotes. “My dad wasn’t spellbound. My mom didn’t follow under Zarkon’s control and was actively looking for a way to be human. I don’t know what happened to her, just that I wanted to be the same kind Galra she had to be for my dad to fall in love with her. But Lotor’s words-”
“were wrong.” He should so be paying attention to what Keith said. He was half Galra, like Lotor, but he couldn’t find it in himself to care. The guy in front of him was Keith, his leader and the guy he liked. He fought like hell for his team and he deserved nothing less than his support. “The only thing you share in common with that guy is being half Galra. But you’re living proof that you don’t live in obsession.”
“Well, I do have one obsession.”
Lance looked confused when he realised what Keith was talking about and went red. “Oh, you mean me. Well, can’t blame your good taste. Just know that Lotor is wrong about you. When you tell the others, they’ll see that.”
Keith gave Lance a thankful smile before leaning up to kiss him.
“I thought we said no more until after the war?” Lance said, though he just wanted to pull Keith back for more.
“How am I supposed to wait when I have the best thing here? It’s starting to become hard to not kiss you all the time.”
“Good, I’m not the only one.” Lance said, capturing Keith’s lips again.
After the war, after he told his secrets, whatever. Lance knew what his next big life decision was. To stand next to Keith for as long as he could.

Shklance x reader
Request for anon: Sh-- Shklance x reader?? Omegaverse? Omg please for the love of aziraphale, may I have headcanons for this where reader and Shiro are omegas and Lance and Keith are alphas???
I gotchu. I didnt know if you wanted nsfw or just SFW so I did both??
• Starts as Lance and Keith, however very shortly after Shiro is added in. Like weeks later.
• After months of mutual pining and angst and other bullshit, you accept their recent proposal to join their relationship.
• Lance and Keith are Alphas. You and Shiro are Omegas. Lance and Keith pamper the SHIT out if you and Shiro. Lance, Keith, and Shiro pamper the shit out of you.
• No seriously you break down crying one night because they treat you so well and that just hasn't happened before?
• You didn't let the fact that you were an omega keep you back, which yeah, is great, but it got to be problematic and your mates all saw it. You didn't like to stop. You pushed and continued to push on everything.
• Training was a big thing for you, you'd train for hours a day, continously. On one particular day, after a rough and lost battle, Neither Lance, Shiro, or Keith could find you. Hunk had seen you a few times, Pidge only one. Lance checked the training room
• Sure enough there you were. You were red and sweating, your breathing rough and you looked to be struggling against the robot you were currently fighting. He tries to get your attention, he calls your name, he asks you to stop but it doesnt register in your brain, you were too focused on the bot in front of you.
• You're steadily failing and it isnt until your flung against a wall and can't get up can Lance finally manage to stop the training program and run over. You're writhing on the ground, blood soaking through your shirt. The tears fill your eyes and you finally process who's there. Lance kneels next to you and takes you in his arms.
• You can't help the breakdown that ensues. You cry in his arms, holding onto him for dear life, apologizing for losing the battle before, apologizing for causing a scene. You just wanted to be better, you wanted to be like them.
• The room fills with the bitter smell of distress and Lance crinkles his nose but focus on comforting you. It isnt long before Keith and Shiro come running in. Lance is standing with you in his arms, panic clear on his features. You end up in the healing pod that night. None of your mates could sleep. Shiro tries to hide it but he's stressed and scared, Keith is cranky and Lance is just tired. They stay close that night.
• MOVING ON FROM ANGST
• The cuddles are amazing :(
• You always end up in the middle. Shiro likes to be the little spoon, especially if you're spooning him.
• There isn't really a pattern or who's going to be with who, no rotation. It's just however it ends up is what it'll be.
• Cuddle piles. Everyone's touching everyone with some limb.
• Lance prefers to be a big spoon, Keith prefers to be a little spoon but when you need (or want) it they're all willing to be big spoon.
• Lance still gets homesick- he struggles to show it, wanting to come off as tough rather than weak and he hesitates to talk about it ever since Keith got on his back for it. It was long before they were dating and Keith hates himself for it but Lance can't help it.
• You whisper sweet nothings into his ear, massaging his scalp while Shiro and Keith trace little shapes onto exposed skin. You try to cook what you can to make him feel like he's home.
• He looks at all of you like a new home.
• Keith cried when Lance told y'all.
• You all are so in love???
• It's sickening.
• K i s s e s
• Shiros favorite are forehead kisses.
• Lance's loves neck and shoulder kisses.
• Keith absolutely adores Jaw and lips kisses.
• Knowing this about them, you use it to your advantage. They get all fluffy when they get their kisses. That's their favorite way to kiss you too.
• PDA isn't really Keith or Shiros thing. However Lance loves it and so do you, so constant PDA. People usually assume it's just you and Lance, then get tripped out when they realize it isnt.
• You love affection. Absolutely love it. Specifically from them. Absolutely from them.
• Shiro seems to know when you're stressed before your Alphas do. You smell like caramel when you're stressed out. He'll wrap you in his arms and scent you gently. He'll run his hands through your hair in attempt to calm you until your Alphas can help.
• Shiros a little better at hiding when he's stressed. However, you always know. You'll give him soft kisses, starting at his cheeks that move down his jaw and to his neck. You'll keep him close and tell him how much you love him, how well he does and how great of a leader he is.
• H e a t s.
• Yours in particular are bad. They found that out the hard way. Once your suppressants wore off and you didn't have anymore, it was only a matter of time. It was about 2 months after you joined. You didnt want to be a bother so you decided you'd just take care of it yourself. Your scent was stronger than you had originally thought and when your mates finally managed to get the message and barge in, you were in too much pain to deny help.
• It takes a lot out of you.
• Constant heat, pain, and anxiety- you need someone with you.
• Shiro tends to help you out in the beginning of everything, when you were too nervous to have two Alphas accompany you during your heat.
• He doesn't mind, he would leave little kissed down your body and leave all the marks he could.
•Any way he could pleasure you and make you feel better he did.
• Shiros heats are very mild, it runs in the family. It isn't as painful and he can mentally function through the whole thing.
• He still gets hot though and needy. Everyone makes sure he knows he is loved.
• Ruts for Lance and Keith can be rough. When one of them goes through it, it triggers the others. They're both particularly rough during that time so they make it a point to stay away from you and Shiro.
• They're mad protective.
• At balls and gatherings be prepared to be protected and constantly surrounded.
• mk this is where things get steamy
• Shiro loves giving. He loves the little sounds and whines you make when he goes down on you.
• They all love to focus on you, it's not all the time but the times it does happen, oh boy.
• Shiro will be buried between your thighs, licking and sucking. You'll be leaning against Keith who plays with your stomach and chest, leaving hickeys on your neck and Lance will be leaning into you, making out with you.
• over stimulation???
• Over stimulation.
• Orgasm denial??
• Begging?
• Hi yes kinky.
• Lance is the biggest, It was a challenge at first but damn does he feel good. Keith isnt as big, but he's longer and it's easier to ride him than it is Lance.
• Ion CARE if Shiro is an omega. Ride him into oblivion p l e a s e. Lance and Keith really enjoy when the two of you put on a show.
• You've had shower sex with Keith more times than you've heard your own father's voice.
• Lance has and will finger you in public, like under a table or some shit.
• Sometimes you like to sit back and watch while your boys have their fun. You don't mind.
• Eat ASS ok.

Many ways to say I love you: Day Twenty Three.
Kidge-a-palooza 2019 Prompt: Pillow Talk. Pairing: Kidge (VLD) Universe: Canon.  Status: Part 5/7
Keith threw the papers toward the table when his eyesight began to feel more tired than usual, and sleepier than he would like to admit. He brought one of his fingers to the bridge of his nose to massage the discomfort that had given him to review hundreds of reports that were the same as his judgment. Arriving on earth had had great benefits for everyone, Keith could admit that, but working with Garrison's bureaucracy was something he was definitely not used to. Not even the Blade needed to resort to so much paperwork after field explorations or errands with allied planets. After he was unable to understand what he was reading, no matter how much he tried to concentrate, Keith decided to leave until the next morning.
Or day, in space it was difficult to know the time when one was distracted for too long. He saw his holopad clock to find out how many hours of sleep he had left before starting a new routine in Atlas.
2:35 a.m
He stretched with regret while he got up, at least he could rest about five hours before the first alarm. He headed for his designated room, dragging his feet through the corridors, watching like some people still stood watching the safety of the ship in which they were traveling on orders from the commanders. Something inside Keith was removed from nostalgia when he thought about how different Atlas was from the Castle of lions. Although his last years had lived between the secret base of BOM and in the quantum abysm next to his mother, Keith still had good memories when he lived with his friends in the altean castle.
Like how Hunk was investigating and preparing new dishes with what he found on desolate planets, Coran and Allura on the central bridge directing new coordinates to their destinations as guardians of the universe, Lance competing with him for the aisles at the slightest comment or suspicious look, Shiro instructing him on what was the best combat technique in the training room. Or Pidge resting in the lion's hangar updating her duties while trying to explain to him what she was doing, failing in the attempt.
Many times, those memories saved him from the madness of living in the middle of an intergalactic war. Sometimes even he couldn't measure everything they had lived in the last time since they discovered the blue lion in the desert. But there they were, in a ship of the latest terrestrial technology created by Commander Holt, fighting together with hundreds of people of different races to restore the freedom of the universe against the coming threats.
Although Keith at that time just wanted to sleep.
When he passed through the rest area, he vaguely remembered another of the many personal memories of the castle he guarded suspiciously. For a few seconds, he thought it was ridiculous, considering how many people in Atlas anyone could enter the room to pass the time. But he didn't stop his feet from moving automatically, opening the doors in the expectation of finding her with her computer.
His surprise was immediate when his instincts didn't deceive him. In the middle of a dark room, Pidge was lying on the floor wrapped in a comforter seemingly warm enough for comfort, with a cup of coffee on one side, and her computer in front. Her lenses reflected any image, so she would surely be watching a movie.
Keith smiled to himself when that image of seeing Pidge spending time as a normal teenager became very similar when they lived in the castle. His heart contracted from a sensation he thought he had long forgotten, but there he was again, excited to think of being alone in the same space as her, far from the sight of others.
''If you want to rest, we have rooms, you know?'' Pidge jumped when she heard his voice and the sound of the door closing behind his back. ''It's late, you should be sleeping.''
''Oh yeah?'' Pidge answered selflessly, stopping whatever she was seeing on her computer, stretching lazily. It seems that not only he had run out of time. ''I didn't even realize.''
''Clearly.''
Keith lay next to her, causing Pidge to slap her shoulder playfully while claiming about her ‘stolen space’ and trying to get away from him. Keith also removed the comforter after settling on the floor for Pidge to claim with greater emphasis. Causing a battle of laughter while fighting.
''Hey, that was mine!''
''I confiscate it, your leader needs it.'' Keith answered taking Pidge's hands so he wouldn't take it off easily. She just snorted incredulously.
''Since when does my leader Galra need such a thick blanket?'' She questioned struggling her wrists to free herself from his hands, highlighting the Galra in prayer.
''I have begun to age hastily during this trip.'' Keith moved enough to turn their bodies when they laughed, causing Pidge to stay under him, wrists held by his hands. ''It's something Galra.''
''What a liar you are!''
''You don't believe me?''
''Give me back my blanket!'' Pidge said, imitating an offended accent despite the wide smile on her lips. Keith approached his face to give her a quick kiss on her nose.
''Sorry Pidge, now it belongs to me.''
''The leader of Voltron is a thief and a pedophile, help!''
Pidge shouted before they fell into a new caress and tickle fight, but not too loud to be heard outside. Keith laughed at how ridiculous it sounded while defending himself against her attacks, taking her wrists to stop her again. This time, Pidge was on top of his body as she rested her arms on his chest, looking at him with that cheeky smile that Keith found so irresistible of her, especially when she bit her lower lip unconsciously at a thought.
God, he had missed her so much in recent years, even if it had been only months for her, it had been an eternity for him.
Keith for a moment realized that they had stopped fighting for several seconds, coughing slightly to rebuild their posture. It was very easy to get lost in those golden eyes when he had them so close.
''I accept the thief, but I never remember becoming a pedophile.'' Keith said with a serious look or an attempt from her. Pidge for her part, snorted hard.
''You are with a minor, Mr. Kogane. You should know that what you are doing is illegal.'' Pidge raised an eyebrow when she saw his surprised face. ''And considering that now you have two more years since your return in the quantum abyss, I fear that five years of difference implies a rather high sentence.''
''It's funny that you tell me about illegal acts, Pidge Gunderson.''
Keith defended himself, but without malice in his words, he was only following in stupid play that Pidge had decided to propose. He didn't take it seriously; they weren't on earth anyway and he had done much more than lying next to his younger companion in a government room.
The only thing Keith could fear on that ship over any officer if someone came into the room by chance was Commander Holt. Who surely had no idea about the relationship he had with his daughter under the table and anyone's eyesight. For a while, he supposed that Matt and Shiro suspected after what happened in Naxzela, but they were reasonable enough not to say anything at the moment.
The war they lived in had turned them into something strange. They were nothing, and they were all at once. Close friends who supported each other in ways no one else could.
He circled Pidge's waist with his hands to draw her a little closer to his body. The quilt several minutes ago went to the background and at that time they only wanted to stay that way, losing themselves in each other's eyes while their hands gave slight caresses in the area where they were. It was a comfortable environment, where words were not necessary.
If both could see a shooting star through the window of the room, they would like time to stop at that precise moment, where the threats seemed to have disappeared from space and Voltron was not needed.
They expected such a reality to happen soon.
A loud yawn from Pidge quickly brought them out of the trance. Keith smiled sympathetically.
''You better go to sleep.'' Keith said in a soft whisper, Pidge groaned in protest.
''Not yet. Just, let's stay here.''
''You have to rest. We both have to rest or we will fall asleep at the Shiro conference.''
''Fuck Shiro.''
They both laughed at Pidge's scathing comment, coming out more like a groan than something really insulting. She groaned again when she moved closer to Keith's body, placing her head in the space of his neck. She liked his smell; it was much more masculine and attractive than since she last felt it so close.
Pidge closed her eyes for a moment, concentrating on Keith's touches around her waist. Until, without realizing it, the words came out of her mouth.
''Do you think it will ever end?''
''What thing?'' Keith asked, without stopping his caresses, what Pidge thanked internally.
''All this war. I mean, the last time we thought we'd make it, Zarcon didn't die and we had to deal with Lotor. And when we defeated him after we met his true intentions. Zarcon's whitch appeared out of nowhere with a force much more overwhelming than Lotor's. It's like...'' Pidge paused for a moment, taking a breath while ordering the ideas inside her head. Even if she didn't see him, she knew that Keith was listening to her. ''It's like when we think we've won...''
''It just doesn't stop.'' Keith added; Pidge held on with some more force when she heard him.
''Exactly.''
''We knew that this wouldn't be easy... We would have to fight with forces that exceeded us in number and experience, but hey... We have left everything alive so far, right?''
''But how long will that fate last?'' Pidge inquired, with a latent fear blooming from her insides. ''What happens if…?''
''Pidge...''
Keith began a path of kisses on her face sweetly to mitigate her fears. He could understand her, many of those questions were also asked regularly when they left the problems barely alive and a few bruises. And he had never found the answer to any of them.
But at that time, it was his duty to calm her partner's insecurity.
''Everything will be fine.'' He took her face so they could both see each other. ''We are together in this.''
''We were also together when we were stranded in space, and you almost left on your own.'' Pidge's eyes darkened in pain; Keith bit his lower lip at the mention of that experience. ''What guarantees me that it won't happen again?''
''I know you're worried about all this... But even if I can fail, others are also there to support us.''
''It is not enough.''
He knew not.
Sometimes he used to be extremely stubborn and failed countless times as Votron's leader just because of his impulses the first few times. He couldn't help it; he was still human and many situations sometimes surpassed him. The others understood and were willing to support him when Keith was heading towards bad decisions that could cost them their lives.
But Pidge was afraid. And many times, he forgot that, despite her vast intelligence, she was still a sixteen-year-old girl in the middle of a war. Atlas could give them some more stability since they had their families close to the earth and supported them at all times, but ...
It was not enough.
Pidge removed herself from his arms to get up from the ground, with a look fallen from sleep and constant fears that possibly interfered with proper rest.
''Sorry for bothering you with those things.''
''It's ok, Pidge.'' Keith got up too, bringing his hand to her cheek. She felt freezing under his touch. ''It's good to talk those things. If you want, you can always go to my room and continue having pillow talk.'' Pidge's eyes widened at the suggestion and then gave way to a haughty smile.
''Keith, you should take your hands away from me if you don't want to be jailed.''
''Can you stop with that!?''
They started a new sleight of hand that ended when Pidge got up to the exit, taking her computer with her triumphantly. Keith took the comforter off the floor, keeping it in the closet of the room where it belonged.
Pidge before closing the door behind her, turned to Keith.
''Hey Keith.''
''Yeah?'' He answered turning to her once he closed the closet.
''Thank you.'' Keith nodded, approaching her to give her a sweet kiss on her forehead.
''Anytime.''

Once Bitten, Twice Stupid 193
193 When Lance fell asleep, their roles had reversed. Keith calling Shiro to check in, after overhearing how they hadn’t really talked to anyone. The conversation with his brother wasn’t that long due to him not wanting to leave Lance. Knowing Krolia, whatever advice she’d given him was probably shit, though, as Lance had said, his mother was probably the closest person he could turn to advice for this. Coran may have had a pretty interesting past, but as far as Keith knew, he’d never been on the end of being pregnant. Pidge... wasn’t exactly maternal, and Allura... was Allura. She’d make a good mother... in her own way. Maybe this trip would have been better if they’d invited the others? Not so much Rieva and Matt, but Pidge and Hunk. “Keith?”Hearing Lance call his name, he forced himself out the bathroom. It was now closer to dusk than to dawn. Lance had needed time to cry out his frustrations“Hey, beautiful. How are you feeling?”“Better... thirsty... and sorry”Sorry because they hadn’t been to see his dad yet... Keith was slightly annoyed by that fact, but not mad. Lance hadn’t asked for his ego to start being a pain in the arse, and with all the stress he’d been putting himself under, he really needed the rest“Do you want some blood?”“We didn’t do my injection”Fuck. He hadn’t thought of that“Do you want to go the bathroom, and I’ll get it organised?”“Okay” It felt like nothing now to draw a bit of blood for Lance’s injections. The fear of the curse had lessened. Lance would have never tried to feed off Matt or Rieva, even in a desperate situation. But whether it be luck, or Lance’s own curse, it seemed to kill the werewolf curse before it could turn their twins. Maybe Lance had a point about some of their more careless activities? They shouldn’t be able to stand being in the same room, they both shared moments with their egos that really hurt, but he hadn’t been thinking of his own safety since turning. Just the safety of everyone they called family. Coming back from the bathroom, Lance sat beside him on their bed. Resting his against Keith’s shoulder, he sighed softly “Okay... inject away”The injection always only took a moment. In, inject, out, then Lance would rub at the healing mark. His boyfriend sighing again, overthinking things“You needed to let it out”“I know. I feel like I’ve brought the whole mood down and I hate it. You must be starving”Yep. He was. His metabolism was something crazy. The amount of food he consumed was frankly scary“I’m okay. Here, have some blood and we can think about getting something to eat”“I thought I had this planned. You know? We’d have breakfast, than go see your dad. Clean his grave up. Talk to him... A mental breakdown wasn’t scheduled”“Are they ever? Did mum help?”“She’s no Mami when it comes to advice. She said to chuck my fear out the window”Keith snorted“Right. Because it’s totally that easy. Was she okay?” They didn’t know if she was coming or not. Not with her work schedule. Keith kind of hoped she would, yet she’d made indications of it. Like, would he even recognise his father’s grave? And what did he say? “Yeah. She was her usual self. I called her for advice, but I know she was disappointed it wasn’t you”“Nah. She loves you. I think she even likes you better than me”“She’s your mum. She loves you. She’s pretty worried how this is affecting you. I could tell”“I’m okay... kind of. I’m getting there. Umm... Nothing time with my beautiful boyfriend won’t fix” Lance groaned at him“Babe, you don’t have to try so hard. It’s okay. I’m hardly beautiful... I’m like... the very definition of a wreck right now”“You’ll be okay. Here, wrist or um... neck?”“Wrist... sorry... it’s just easier in this position”“Don’t be sorry. I’m not sorry”He’d noticed something. Lance only liked to feed on his neck when they were making out or in the heat of things. His fingers when Lance was trying to be quite mid do“I am. I love you so much. So so much. I neglected your safety... and you’re still being... so good to me”“Idiot. I love you. Your hunger won’t last forever. I should have gotten some blood into while you slept... it’s bad to let your... um... levels drop”“I’ll be okay. They’re still okay... I think one of them tried to break my rib when I was in the bathroom” Keith loved hearing the twins were moving. Even when it was uncomfortable for Lance, he felt like he was hearing cute stories he wouldn’t be able to forget. He didn’t think he had the patience to be pregnant... which only made him prouder of strength Lance showed“They take after you. All silent and deadly”“Babe, I’m not a fart”Keith hadn’t thought of that, chuckling as he shook his head“I know. You smell awful in a good way. Not like my lactose farts”“Eh. They’re part of you. A couple of wads of tissue up my nose and you’d never tell”“I’ll remember that for next time. Here, eat something. Don’t be afraid if you need a little more” That was something else Keith noticed. Lance took care with the amount of blood he took from him, but the volume seemed like it would be a lot for a human. Very rarely he felt light headed, questioning if he’d be conscious if he was still human. He’d never tell Lance. He’d freak out immediately, plus fluids and a good meal had him back in shape in no time. Lance moaned as he bit into Keith’s wrist, reminding him he’d have to make more of an effort. Maybe it’d be for the best if he ran an IV line for Lance tonight, just to get his hunger knocked on the head completely. Pulling off, Lance lapped at the trails of bloodied spit left on Keith’s arm. The wounds starting to heal instantly“Better?”Catching a few small beads pushed out by the healing wound, Lance hummed “Mmm... I know this isn’t comfortable for you”It shouldn’t have been hot, but it was. It stroked his pride to provide for their boyfriend the one thing he needed above all else“I’m fine, babe. As long as you’ve had enough”“Yeah... I’m good. I’m still sorry. I think I’ve been taking more and more of late”“Nah, it’s fine. But I was thinking we should probably set you up with an IV later, seeing how little you ate today. You need to keep your fluids up”“But keeping my fluids out means I have to pee”Whining at him, Lance was too cute“I love you and your walnut sized bladder anyway”“I think it’s more like a grape at this stage. I’m sorry my ego chuckled a wobbly... and that we spent most of today in bed”“There’s nothing more that I love, than spending the day in bed with you”“Pervert. I’m serious though. I don’t want to be scared like that. I want to see where you grew up. I want to know everything about you. All of it”“You might not like all of it”“I don’t know. I think we both know that I’m like crazy stupid in love with you and all those little things that drive me crazy only make me love you more” Keith groaned softly. He’d become weak to Lance. Last real story he had left to share with his boyfriend was the night Shiro saved his arse. Lance knew most of it. Keith couldn’t remember what he’d told him, nor was he sure why he’d never told him all of it. Being on the streets had taken a toll, and the thought of a warm bed and decent shower left him going with people he already knew were no good for him. They’d offered him a good time when he’d been so completely done with fighting to be alive“Alright. How about we go get dinner and figure things out from there”“Mmmm... sounds good to me. Let me change, then we’ll go”“I probably need to freshen up too”“I hate to say it but we both kind of stink” From sweat. Under the blankets left them both sweating in their sleeps. Lance smelt deader than ever, with Keith not far off. Personally he didn’t mind stinking of Lance, but Lance felt like he needed to do more to protect Keith with things like being careful with his scent“Want to take first shower while I look for somewhere good to eat?”“Sounds like a plan... I... don’t know if I’ll freak out again”“It’s okay. If you do, we can totally go. I know we’re here to see my dad, but your safety and comfort comes first. I don’t want you to think you have to hide things from me”“I know. I won’t take too long”“Don’t go rushing. The last thing we need is for you to slip. That sounded harsher than what I meant”Lance shook his head at him“It’s okay, we both know I’m a klutz. I’ll be careful. We’ve come this far. I’m not about to risk them”“I’m worried about you, too. I don’t want you being hurt”“I’ll be fine... Let me freshen up, then you can take me out for dinner” Lance kissed Keith’s wrist where he’d fed. Keith couldn’t believe the passage of time since meeting Lance had moved so fast. It must have been a year now, or very close to a year. This time last year, he’d have thought himself turned and cursed with a single bite. The Blades really did teach some total bullshit when he stopped to consider all of things he hadn’t thought of before. He’d been such a dumb arse. Luckily he had Lance to set him straight... or not so straight... though he wasn’t sure what he was as it was Lance he loved and not only his physical body. Realising how easily he could fall into an internal debate over all of that, he gave a shake of his head. Lance said he’d let him take him to dinner, so that’s what he was going to do. *Holding Keith’s hand, the freshness of the night felt nice against Lance’s skin. Keith either hadn’t bothered looking up somewhere else to eat, or he’d been trying to please Lance, resulting in dinner at the same restaurant they’d had breakfast at. This time Lance figured out what was wrong with the place. As they’d finished dinner, the waitress had come to collect to their plates, on her arm balanced by the nozzle was a bottle of orange scented surface spray. Being a public restaurant, smells of all sorts bombarded his senses from the moment they walked. With so many scents, he hadn’t consciously noticed the orange surface spray. The fact that Sendak still held such a hold over him left Lance unable to enjoy his meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant was good, Pidge would have loved the idea of sneakily signing them up for the weekend Karaoke competition, then abusing everyone heckling her over bad singing... He missed those days. He missed not being pregnant and not fearing his scent. Heck, he missed ghost hunting. He missed watching Pidge get super enthused as Hunk prayed for it all to be over. The restaurant was the kind of place he could see himself having a few quite drinks had the place been in Garrison. The kind of place that Sal’s had been to them before he’d had to hideaway his changing body. The Lord knew he was looking forward the day they could all go out again. He was going to order the biggest, greasiest, slimiest, cheesiest pizza in existence. Maybe even have Sal get some cigarette ash in there for that true diner flavour... “Want to take a walk?”No. Maybe... He wanted to go home to bed... but he’d spent the day in the hotel room. Staring past Keith, the stars twinkled over the town as if trying to say that nothing bad could ever happen here, which was a bold faced lie if ever there was one. Keith drew strength from the moon, and both of them had eye sight sharp enough to walk around in the dark safely enough... plus... it’d give them time to get the layout of the town down... His boyfriend seemed to be oblivious to internal wavering, Lance wondering if this was his way of easing into things he either wanted to tell, or easing into seeing his father... or even a chance to cover his arse when Shiro asked how much of the town they’d gone out and seen“Sure. There’s a park a few blocks down. I saw it on the town map”“You saw a town map?”“Did you really not look this place up at all? They have a similar lay out to Garrison, which makes sense in a way... they were both trade posts at some time, though I’ve got not idea what they could have pulled out of all the sand”“I didn’t even know that much. It’s like... all I remember is the shack... all of it feels like being on another planet”Lance slid his hand into Keith’s “It’s a good thing I’m here to keep you grounded. Don’t even think about packing your bags for another planet. You’re not leaving me behind”“I’m sure that if I ever got spirited away into space, you’d be right there with me”“Yep. Probably screaming my head off the whole time too”“I think I would be too. Let’s go, I’ll follow your lead”“Don’t you always?” Keith kissed his cheek. Lance blushing lightly as his boyfriend replied “yep”, followed by two more kisses on his cheek. Lance would follow Keith to the ends of the Earth, with Keith just as happy to follow him instead. Unless one of them made the decision, they’d be following each other around in circles for the rest of their lives... That didn’t actually sound too bad... Walking down to the park, the town had a nice vibe to it. Lance felt bad for whoever was in charge of cleaning the park’s rubbish bin after his dinner decided to make a reappearance before they’d reached the toilets towards the middle of the park. Cleaning up, and using the facilities, the pair of them settled themselves down on the swings. It’d been months since he’d been on a swing set, in Cuba, yet it had to be longer for Keith. Dragging his feet in the sand to make a heart, he supposed they looked like a couple of kids up to no good. He’d seen enough memes that he knew adults missed swing sets, and he knew he definitely counted in their ranks. Pushing off lightly, the chain creaked under his weight. A memory of Veronica coming to mind from back when having a baby brother that was a vampire was something cool. He’d wanted to go higher and higher, the pegs of the swing set shaking, so Luis and Marco held it down as he swung as high as he could get. He’d been sure if he’d gotten a little higher he could have looped the chain around the top, but Papi had lost it at the four of them“You seem happy”“Mmm. I like swings”Letting the swing slow naturally, Lance grinned at his boyfriend mischievously. They had the whole playground to themselves “What about you? What’s your favourite piece of playground equipment?” Keith hummed. He’d been making a mound between his shoes, trying to keep the sand from slipping back down “I hate the monkey bars”“Oh? What’d they ever do to you?”“A shit kid at one of the families threw a rock at me because I could pull myself up to sit on top of them. It hit me in the head and I fell off backwards”“Wow. That kid sounds like a wanker”Keith nodded, expression semi serious “They were. I got in trouble for falling off”“That’s kind of what kids do though. They play and climb... it’s what kids are supposed to do”Keith sighed, before shaking his head“It doesn’t matter now. I can’t even remember their face, let alone why they through the rock”“They were probably jealous because you’re so much cooler than them. I bet you were a totally rad kid. I wish I’d known you then” Lance didn’t think about what he’d said. He felt like kicking himself as Keith mumbled “Right. The fucked up orphan no body wanted was a “rad kid””“Hey. No. No. That is not on you. Not at all. Adults are supposed to be there and be the strong ones. Not kids. I sincerely wish I could lord over every single person who hurt you, how fucking amazing you are”Keith gave a scoff of disbelief. Lance saddened that his boyfriend’s anxiety had gotten to him this badly. Climbing off his swing, the vampire wrinkled his nose at the sand pouring into his shoes as he moved to stand behind Keith“What are you doing?”“I’m going to push you?” Wasn’t that obvious? He’d waddled his pregnant arse all the way behind Keith. The only logical conclusion was he was going to push him on the swing“You don’t have to”“Maybe I want to? Maybe I want to play in the park because there’s no one else around. No bad scents. No blood. No spirits. No yucky feelings other than the sand under my socks...”“It is a nice park”“Right? Now, hold on” Pushing Keith on the swing, Keith gradually loosened up, even starting to laugh as Lance backed off and watched“You can do it, babe!”“I’m totally going to jump off, you know that, right?”“It’s like an unwritten law of swinging, seeing how far you can jump”“I think I have an advantage...”“Doesn’t matter. I’m totally challenging you to a swing off once these two are born”“That’s not fair, you’ve got wings”Lance huffed. They had a mind of their own, much like the rest of his body “Which are mostly useless. I can’t even fly around as a bat”“That’s fine. Ready?”“Go for it!” Keith jumped a little too soon, half faceplanting in the sand. With the way he landed, Lance rushed to his side to find his boyfriend laughing“Are you okay?”“I fucked that up”Kicking Keith lightly in the side with the toe of his shoe, his boyfriend rolled over, smiling like an idiot. Lance’s heart had stopped with the way Keith landed, now the idiot was smiling so happy he felt all warm inside “You had me worried!”“I guess I’m not that great at sticking the landing”“You weren’t that great at jumping. You went before the swing was at the right height!”“You make it sound like you’re training me for the Olympics” Channeling the best sports commentator voice he could, Lance’s voice wobbled slightly as he tried not to laugh at how funny he was“You don’t get at a ten-point-zero for your landing. Zero style. Very simplistic. Could this spell the end for Keith Kogane’s budding career before he even goes professional?”Keith laughed. A proper unguarded laugh. Lance feeling the luckiest man in the world to hear it “I’m being serious!”“Uh huh. Sure you are. You know, the stars are really pretty. I feel like I can see them way better than before”“That’s because all your senses increased. Werewolves and vampires are kind of night creatures”“I still don’t know how to turn into a wolf. I don’t know if it counts”“It totally does... Now, are you getting up? Or should I pick you up in the morning?”Keith patted the sand next to him“You could come down here”“Or you could come up here... I’m too pregnant to deal with sand”“Fair point. We have the whole park to ourselves... I don’t think I’ve ever really... just... you know...” That Keith hadn’t played on a playground saddened Lance. Even as an adult, playgrounds were still fun. With no one around to watch them, there was no point being responsible adults“You know, there’s a slide over there... and a flying fox...”“Babe...”Keith tried to dismiss the idea, Lance using “boyfriend” which proved very effective. Damn Pidge. She’d gone and put that back into his head at her birthday party“Come on, it’ll be fun. I mean, I probably can’t use the spinner, not unless you want to scramble the twins, but the slide never gets old”“Fine, but if we get in trouble, you’re taking the blame”Lance shrugged. They weren’t violating any laws that he knew of. They weren’t intoxicated. Nor were they committing property damage or trespassing“The lawyer in me tells me it’s going to be okay”“I’ll remember that when I get my one phone-call”“You better. Though it would be a conflict of interest to represent you, so let’s not get in trouble?” The did indeed get into trouble. Keith got wedged in the kids slide, and Lance was too tall for the flying fox, so that was disappointing. They were still messing around when the lights of a cruiser flashed red and blue, the two of them called over by a police officer who looked unable to catch them, even if they had been human. Swallowing down his fear, Lance took Keith by the hand, walking him over to the officer when Keith kept telling him they should run. Getting closer, the man clearly didn’t expect two fully grown adults to be playing in the park so late at night. “Officer, how are you tonight?”Putting on an air of responsibility, Lance felt he’d be the more convincing adult of the pair of them“I had a call about teenagers mucking around in the park. Want to tell me about it?”Keith snorted with laughter, Lance stepping on his foot to shut him up“That was us, sir. I’m sorry if we created a disturbance. We’re on holiday, you know, before the twins come, and wanted to have a little fun. I had no idea we we’re causing a disturbance” Keith tried to muffle his laughter, Lance mentally rolling his eyes at his boyfriend who was clearly upsetting the police officer. Huffily, the man asked“So I’m not going to find any of that junky paraphernalia you young people are into these days?”“No, sir. I know we might look young, but I’m 46 and my boyfriend here is 28. No drugs, or alcohol, sir”The man looked them up and down, Lance waited for something along the lines of “I wouldn’t lie to a police officer, if I was you”. Instead the man sighed“Look. You can’t be playing in the park at midnight. You’re obviously not locals. You staying at the hotel?”“Yes, sir. My boyfriend is a photographer, we’re travelling to work on his portfolio. Sorry. We wanted to have a little fun with no one around”“I’ll have you save that sort of fun for a more appropriate environment. Get in the back, I’ll give you both a ride back”Lance immediately shook his head“We’re both able to walk back...”“That wasn’t an invitation. We get a lot of blow ins for this damn Easter festival the town insists on having. The last thing I need is the pair of you thinking your entitled to cause trouble. Get in” Lance felt like a scolded school child as he did as he was told, Keith sliding in beside him, though his boyfriend still thought they should run. Clipping their belts in obediently, Lance bit his bottom lip. Maybe they’d gotten carried away? He didn’t think they were being too loud. All they’d been doing was acting like idiots. They hadn’t damaged any property... plus Keith had gotten on the spinner, which had been hilarious given how much strength he could put into a spin. His boyfriend had gotten off with shaky legs, tripped, fell in the grass and burst out laughing. Lance knew he should stay quiet, but this was a golden chance“Excuse me, have you been an officer here very long?”The man met his eyes before pulling away from the park curb“Long enough” Damn. He wasn’t giving him anything“Do you happen to know anything about the fire that took place here about 20 years ago?”Keith’s heart started racing harder. Yeah. He should have been considerate about Keith’s feelings, but this was like the perfect chance“Oh, I know about that fire alright. One dead. 250,000 dollars worth of damages. I don’t know why you’re bringing that up, but you’re best dropping it. A lot of people were hurt by that incident. Damn candle left unattended. The place went up faster than a whore’s knickers drop”“If one wanted to know about the fire, is there a local registrar office?” The office pressed the breaks suddenly, instead of gently stopping at the stop sign“Look. I’m sure you’re nice... whatever you are. But what happened that day is no laughing matter. We lost one of our own that day. It’s an ugly scar on the history of this town and I won’t have the pair of you treating it like a joke”Whelp. He’d gone and made him angry“I mean absolutely no disrespect. It’s such a horrible thing to have happened. When you saw you lost one of your own, I assume you mean an officer?” Resuming driving, the man sighed at him as if he was stupid, their eyes meeting again in the rear view mirror “No. Not an officer. One of our local fire fighters. They tried to stop the blazing jumping house, when the second floor came down. Horrible tragedy. We lost a fine man that day”“Did you know him?”“Aye, we all did. Bit of a loner. Kept to himself, especially after his missus skipped town. Heeee... had a boy from memory. Hard worker though. That boy... he was tiny thing of a kid. Still, he gave everything he could to that boy. He ended up vanishing, just like his mother. Couldn’t tell ya where she went. Up and vanished as suddenly as she appeared here. No idea how the pair of them met, and before we knew it, she was up the duff, then gone a couple of years later. Couldn’t handle the stresses of being a parent, if you ask me anything about it”“And all of this is public record?”“Bits and pieces. Look. I won’t tell you again, losing Joe hurt a lot of people here. He was a good man. Kind of man you never really knew what was thinking. But when he saw his boy, he’d light up like a goddamn Christmas tree. Loved that kid, he did. He was real torn up when his woman shot through, but never blamed his boy. We often used to wonder what happened to that kid, ah, but I suppose it’s one of those things you’d never know” The officer was letting his accent show. Keith seemed on the edge of tears“Say we didn’t want to drop it, is there anyone from around there that we can talk to about it”The man fixed him with a glare“People move on. Dredging that up again is only going to cause pain. If I hear you two are stirring up trouble because your curious over something that is none of your business, I will escort you out of town meself” That mean there were indeed people out there who’d been around at the time of the fire and may remember Keith, and his father... and that the council office should have record that’d help them place the pieces of that day together. The last few minutes of the drive was in silence. The officer having to squidge himself out the door in order to open the back door of the cruiser to let them out. The man really didn’t know what to make of Lance, he got it. He looked like a woman and sounded like a man. Some people were so damn backwards that they couldn’t accept change. Lance still opting to be polite, on the off chance they crossed paths again “Thank you for the ride. We’re sorry we caused you trouble”“Don’t let it happen again. There’s laws about these kinds of things. Consider yourselves both lucky and warned”“Yes, sir. Thank you” As the police cruiser left, Keith collapsed against him, sniffling as tears rolled down his face. His boyfriend wrapping his arms around him with a little too much force“Babe?”“He... loved me”With his arms pinned, Lance could only raise his hand enough to pat Keith’s arm “Yeah, babe. He did. I’m sorry I didn’t ask if it was okay to ask, but the opportunity to know something more was right in front of us”“He... he still went back in... he...”“He loved you. He loved you, and I know I’m not him. I could never know what he was thinking, but I think all he wanted to do was stop the fire before more people were hurt”“He left me”“Not by choice. You heard that guy. He loved you. He adored you. And he was so proud to be your dad. You... you were loved. You are loved”“Can we go back to the room?”Lance’s heart was breaking for his boyfriend. Sure, they’d learned a little and tomorrow Lance wanted to hit up the council to dig up whatever he could on Keith’s father’s past, but right now...“I was thinking the same thing. I want to hold you”“Please?”“Always, babe. Always and forever” ReplyForward

When you Sleep
I don’t like this title either. Or even this fic very much. like I really LOVE parts of it? But the whole fic? MEh. Whatever maybe someone else will enjoy it.
Also it’s got some themes from previous fics like Touch starved Keith, and Cargo Pilot “behind the scenes” canon compliance. But like primarily soft IMO. It’s just... primarily soft.. NSFW-y for a minor blowjob when Keith loses all sense hahaaaa (Meaning I did, I lost all sense, don’t mind me.) Despite the title, surprisingly /not/ a lot of Somni cause they mostly just cuddle a lot. And like. Keith was mostly asleep for that one bit so. meh. Uhhh what else.
4544 words. Klance pre season 2.
Lance gets a little touchy with Keith during a sleep over that starts... things.
Have fun.
---
It starts easy, when the Paladins have all gone to sleep during a team bonding exercise in the wilderness of a planet whose name Lance had trouble pronouncing. He wasn’t sure how he got stuck sleeping between Hunk and Keith but when he stretches his arm out into the empty space on his left, he is too tired to realize just how close he is to the red Paladin.
It’s his waking up before the others that inevitably leads to his downfall.
Or if he was feeling particularly irresponsible, he supposed he could blame the softness of Keith’s cheek or the little crinkle of his brows that made it impossible to pull his hand away.
As it stood, when Lance woke up first to find that Keith had somehow coiled around his arm with his cheek in his open palm, he really couldn’t help it.
When his thumb rubbed over the skin and Keith leaned into him… when he made the most delicious little noise and his whole body squirmed a little closer…
It all gave Lance a terrible idea and frankly he didn’t want it.
Well— he wanted it, but he knew it wasn’t even a slightly good idea and least of all with Keith, so he tried to pull away.
And that was when Keith opened his eyes.
His mouth seemed to say Lance’s name, but no sound came out.
Instead there was only a soft sigh and the very slow tightening of Keith’s grip on Lance’s wrist.
Lance’s heart beat wildly in his chest at the small motion, realizing they were so close he could make out the shine in Keith’s eyes.
“What are you—?”
“Sorry it just… felt nice…” Keith’s eyelids slipped down part way, obscuring them from Lance’s view, “Felt really… good.”
Lance took a breath. Shaky, unsure. The others were still very much asleep but who knew for how long.
This was already a highly compromising position for the two of them to be in and now Keith was telling him he liked it? And not letting go?
At the silence Keith seemed to get a little less brave and his grip lessened.
Lance felt a coldness seep into where his hands had initially held contact. He didn’t think he liked it.
“I’m sorry, you did that by accident…didn’t you? F-forget I said anything.” Keith’s eyes darted up for a second before he looked back down and rolled over turning his back to Lance again. But that one second had been enough.
So, the position had been a little telling. So what?
He scooched over just enough that when he put his hand out to softly run up and down Keith’s side, he was comfortable and could easily make it look like he was mid-stretch if someone woke up and saw.
Keith jumped at the initial contact, small but noticeable thanks to his hand on his body, but in the silence and barely morning light he seemed to melt under his fingers.
By the time Shiro woke up, Lance had settled for carefully playing with the ends of Keith’s hair, something far less damning than a hand on his waist, and their morning started without a hitch.
They didn’t talk about it.
—-
It just becomes this thing that they do, migrating toward each other during easy or vulnerable moments.
Lance realizes quickly that the reason Keith is so receptive is because he’s starved of physical affections. He leans into every touch from every one of his teammates, Lance isn’t special.
Well. Not like that anyway.
Lance is special because he knows, and he provides Keith with a comfort none of the others even realize he needs.
Lance is special because, unlike when Shiro will pat his shoulders or when Pidge will lean into his side, Keith knows Lance’s touches are deliberate. And Lance is special because the night Keith falls asleep on the couch in the rec room— what happens there is purely for Lance.
It had been weeks already. Small touches stretching on forever, warmth settling under skin. Lance’s favorite thing to do at this point is to graze his palm over the small of Keith’s back, feel him arch just the smallest bit, curving in a way that might keep his hand right there. But Lance always pulls away because the point is to graze not to settle. If Keith wants more, he has to say it.
Lance is waiting for him to say it.
And it’s from the rec room couch that he does.
Lance sees that familiar tuft of black hair and casually lets his hand trail through it as he walks by the couch to turn off the television set Hunk must have left running when he left his movie companion for whatever dire feat of engineering had been required of him.
When he walks back Keith’s eyes are still shut but his lips have parted just enough to look so so inviting.
But Lance won’t. It’s not an invitation if Keith doesn’t say it is. And even though Lance has had the thoughts, the thoughts he spent so many years pushing down at the sight of those indigo eyes, acting on them beyond the touches Keith had already asked for was not on the agenda.
So as much as those lips may have said to him, Lance steadfastly refused.
Or at least...conditionally refused.
Because he truly can’t help softly placing his hand on Keith’s cheek, his thumb sliding gently over his bottom lip, feeling the change in texture. Keith let him touch like this, so this much was fine.
If anyone were to walk in it would not be fine anymore, but thankfully most of the castle inhabitants had retired to their own chambers for the evening. They should be okay. Lance should be okay to fawn over the man who did such things to his heart…
Not those feelings. Don’t think about those feelings.
As Lance resigns himself, pulling his hand away, Keith opens his eyes.
Once again, his throat is dry when he tries to say his name so it’s inaudible, but Lance is starting to memorize the motion; the shape his lips make around his name, he loves it.
A tiny sliver of pink tongue slides over Keith’s lips and Lance prides himself in not freezing up over it, “Morning, Samurai.”
“Morning— it’s not, is it?” Keith mumbles out, his voice returning groggily.
Lance kneels down in front of the couch and smiles cheekily, “Nah, you’re just the loser who passed out during the Altean equivalent of the parent trap. You should probably find your own bed before it is morning though.”
Keith mumbles something inaudible then, Lance watches his lips move with a quirked eyebrow but can’t catch it, whatever it is, it isn’t his name.
Keith stretches and sits up, his legs coming down off the couch to land beside Lance’s.
“Uh... were you…?” Keith’s hand is raised as he presses his finger tips to his lips.
Lance feels the heat start to build in his face, but he knows he did nothing wrong, so he says as much, “I didn’t kiss you if that’s what you’re thinking.”
 “R-right…” Keith looks back down.
Lance is silent and considers standing again. At this angle he has a nice view of Keith’s collar peeking out of his shirt and he wants things he knows he still shouldn’t think about.
But then Keith speaks again, “Did you… think about it?”
Lance is quiet.
“...b-because you could… if you wanted to… I wouldn’t be mad…”
Lance is silent because he’s not sure he’s hearing Keith correctly over the pounding of his heart and the blood rushing through his ears.
“W-while you were asleep...?”
Keith’s face lights up red so fast Lance almost can’t stand it. His view of his collar lets him watch the blush disappear into his shirt and god Lance wants to see his bare chest heat up with his face in this way.
He wants…
Keith is staring at the ground and his chest is heaving slightly in his own panic, “I just— I mean— I like waking up to your hands on me it feels really— I’m not trying to be weird or anything it’s just that you— uh...fuck.”
Keith deflated into the couch and Lance can’t help but chuckle even with his own nerves buzzing erratically under his skin, “figured you reacted a little strongly… I don’t mind Keith but shouldn’t a first kiss…” Lance allows himself to trail off because he wants to stick his foot in his mouth at the term.
First kiss.
First as in first of many.
And what was he doing trying to give more meaning to a kiss with a guy who simply had a preference for his hands in his sleep there weren’t any—
“First kiss…?”
Lance feels like he’s vibrating he’s so angry with himself he’s so sure he ruined everything—
“Guess you’re right…” Keith’s voice is suddenly so much steadier. Like logic has finally returned to his sleep hazed mind and he’s ready to clarify for Lance that they’re nothing and should keep it that way.
Except he doesn’t. Instead he leans forward with one carefully placed hand tilting Lance’s face toward him and he lets their lips come together softly. It’s so unlike the red paladin and yet so like him all at once Lance doesn’t know what to do for a long moment. And that long moment takes up all the time of their lips pressed together, and the hesitation clearly weighs on Keith because he already has an apology slipping past his lips and Lance isn’t here for it.
He lurches forward and smashes their lips together, it’s uncoordinated and confusing but Keith melts under him and his mouth opens against Lance’s tongue and suddenly he can taste him. He can taste Keith and he can feel him all around him as his arms wrap around his neck and pull him in closer. Keith’s tongue massages his and wills noises out of Lance he’d never thought he’d make before. It’s exhilarating and mind numbing all at once and Lance may or may not climb onto the couch where they spend the rest of the night tangled together kissing the life out of each other until they both fall asleep.
 And thus, came the shift.
Because when Lance wakes up it’s to Keith’s lips on his neck pressing simple soft kisses. It’s to Keith’s arms around his waist holding him so so close. It’s to the minute rolls of Keith’s hips against his, rubbing their morning wood together in a way that makes Lance’s head spin.
“F-fuck..!” Lance groans and Keith stops instantly like some spell was broken.
“Oh—oh my god Lance I’m so sorry I— “
It’s more of a stretch than anything else but the motion of Lance’s body against Keith’s rubs them together harshly and Keith breathes in rapidly through his nose in a panic.
“This is seriously a thing for you isn’t it…some kind of fetish?” Lance mumbles sleepily, sure to keep his voice as amused as possible, show Keith that he’s not mad.
For added measure he pushes his hips forward just a bit more and watches Keith’s eyes roll back in his head as he tries to chase the feeling, his fingers digging into Lance’s sides as he clings to him.
“L-lance I—”
“It’s either that or you were asleep subconsciously reaching out to me in your dreams, so which—”
The full body blush is back, and Keith’s eyes shut tight and he buries his face into Lance’s chest and Lance honestly can’t believe it.
He can’t believe it he can’t believe it he can’t—
His heart is thumping around so fucking hard.
“W-were you really…”
“I didn’t mean to! You just— I—” his voice is muffled by Lance’s shirt and Lance feels like he is simultaneously dying and thriving all at once.
“Were you dreaming about me…?”
Keith’s lips move but he can’t hear what he says.
An alarm goes off through the castle and the conversation needs to be placed on hold.
—-
Lance almost dies on the mission. They’d passed a planet that was clearly under attack and had suited up to defend it. There were civilian families to protect that weren’t quick enough to find shelter. Maybe Lance should have been more careful.
Still, while he doesn’t need a pod Pidge smacks him over the head the second he emerges from the blue lion.
Shiro says nothing though he looks like he can argue. Hunk pulls him into a full embrace talking very loudly in short phrases that sound like he’s chastising a dog: “don’t you ever do that again!”
Allura breathes a sigh of relief upon seeing him all in one piece, asking him to please be more careful. Coran congratulates him for saving the family but quietly warns him that glory only feels good if you’re alive to feel.
Keith tosses his helmet to the ground sometime between Pidge’s smack and Hunk’s hug, he buries his face in his hands while Allura speaks, and he’s out of the hangar well before Coran is done.
Lance is fine. Broke a bit of a nervous sweat when that cannon fire was conveniently knocked off course. But he’s fine, the civilians were fine, the Galra retreated and everything was okay.
He doesn’t see Keith except for a passing glance into the training room as Shiro exits. He considers going inside, asking Keith to talk, either about why he was so upset or maybe even travel back to that nice happy place they’d been while on the couch together. But he decides against it. Keith will come to him when he’s ready, he’s sure of it.
A few weeks pass. Keith is still receptive to touch. Even occasionally initiates it by brushing their hands together or leaning his head down against his shoulder when no one is looking. But they don’t talk.
Before they are supposed to go on separate missions, Lance to go find some brilliant prisoner, Keith to find materials for their teluduv, Keith finally pulls him aside.
Or rather, it’s as they’re both exiting their rooms that Keith suddenly gets this light in his eyes and turns, abruptly pushing Lance right back into his room and shutting the door behind him.
 “Uh—yes Kei-mmph!”
Keith’s lips are on his again, and he realizes how much he missed it from the one night that felt so long ago.
But they were supposed to be leaving. They hadn’t even gotten into their armors and Allura was still in a bad mood from having to work with Galra. Hell, finding out Keith was one too still hadn’t blown over.
“Keith—mm—ah!”
Keith walks him right up to the bed and shoves him down, quickly climbing on top of him to straddle his hips and reattach to those lips.
They had to go. He loves every feeling of Keith’s body against his, but they had to go.
He tries to grab him, push him off, but his brain never finishes its command because it got as far as “grab him” and his body refused to let go. His fingers dig into Keith’s hips and it makes him moan into Lance’s mouth in a way that excites Lance way too much.
He lays back, taking Keith with him, enjoying his warmth and his weight as he presses down. Lance isn’t sure what got into him, but he wishes it could have happened sooner, before they’d been assigned these missions they were now probably going to be late for.
“Keith—babe, they’re gonna come looking for us…” Lance finally managed to croak out as Keith moves to his neck. When Keith bites into the juncture at his shoulder and collarbone Lance cries out loudly, eyes rolling back as Keith already massages over the bite with his tongue, his hands tugging at Lance’s pants.
“Doors locked.” Keith explains simply, he bites him again, and Lance can feel himself hardening against all his better judgment.
Keith’s hand undoes his button and zipper and in mere seconds his hand is moving.
Lance is melting and panting and so bloody confused.
“Keith, we haven’t— Keith— hah— Keith seriously!?”
The red Paladin freezes before circling back up to Lance’s face, his eyes are hard, determined, and Lance’s body is suddenly so tightly strung staring into those eyes with his hand on his cock he doesn’t know what to do.
The hand tightens, Lance whimpers, and Keith leans in towards his ear, kissing his earlobe lightly as he says, “I need you to cum for me, Lance.”
Lance breathes deep and Keith’s hand slides up his shaft, only then allowing him to realize Keith isn’t wearing his gloves. Keith’s hands are so soft and smooth, always protected under those tacky things, and they feel so good.
“W-why…?” Lance hazards to say out loud. Keith chuckles in his ear and Lance is positive he felt his dick twitch at the sound.
“Because I need you to know what you’re coming back to… maybe…” his hand slides over his head, smearing precum and making Lance grit his teeth to keep from groaning.
“Maybe knowing will keep you from doing any stupid stunts this time around…”
Keith’s hand is slick as it rubs over his head and up and down his shaft, slowly raising in speed.
“K-Keith you don’t have to— mnn..!— you could have just— hah fuck Keith— it feels…”
Keith shrugged as he slid down Lance’s body, the implication very much clear.
“Sure, I guess with you something simple and cheesy and romantic would have worked… but this is more fun and if I’m being honest, I panicked.” He chuckles again and leans his head down to kiss Lance’s hip.
Lance smacks himself in the forehead, “a panicked hand job, definitely how I wanted us to go.”
“Well I mean,” Keith nuzzles his side and Lance’s breath catches, “Spur of the moment decision Lance, yeah. But… I’m definitely not panicking right now. Should have done this ages ago…”
He turns his head to get right up close and personal with Lance’s member and Lance releases a tiny shriek of embarrassment that quickly shifts into something deeper as Keith’s tongue comes out to press flat over the curve of his dick.
And then Keith is moaning, and Lance is overheating because Keith is so unbelievably hot and his tongue feels so good.
“Keith, please...!”
“You taste great, Lance.” He says it with a smile and Lance can’t fucking breathe!
“Now let me make you cum so you come running right back to me.”
Keith’s lips come down over the head of Lance’s cock and Lance can’t help but buck his hips.
“Really—really couldn’t just— SAY—Nnn! Keith...!”
His mouth was hot, really hot, like warm hot not sexy hot but also sexy hot and Jesus— Jesus did Lance mention he’d never gotten a blow job before?
Like there’s been some hand stuff and some like. Cuddling that got a little heated before (hell, that time on the couch wasn’t that long ago was it?)
But Keith coming at him like this— too much too much too—
“Keith— f-ahh— “
Keith’s hand moved down under his shaft to massage his balls as he increased his speed, spit trailing down to make everything feel way too—
“Hnn! C-cuming! I’m cumming! Keith you have to— “
Keith sucks harder and his tongue swirls around his head and Lance looks down just in time to see his smirk.
He has just enough time to think, “sexy fucker.” Before whiting out.
By the time he comes back to his senses Keith has white seeping out of the corner of his lips and he is still sucking and massaging his cock, like he wants every last drop of his cum and Lance feels his soul ascending.
Only to plummet back down as someone bangs on the door, “Lance! What are you doing in there?! The door is locked! You best get your butt down to the hangar in the next five dobashes or so help me!”
The voice sounds further away toward the end, to the point they can barely make out Allura’s going: “and where the quiznak is KEITH?!”
Keith finally lifts up, visibly swallows and licks his lips.
“Alright. Now you can go on your mission… knowing you have to come back and return the favor, or you’ll be officially labeled a selfish lover.”
Keith hops off the bed like he isn’t ignoring his own erection pushing on his leggings and Lance is dumbfounded.
“S-self—selfish?!”
Keith chuckles while Lance pulls up his pants, “I’ll have you know if we had more time I’d— “
“You’ll just have to show me when we get back.” Keith scoops his gloves up off the floor where he’d apparently tossed them at some point.
“For the love of god, Keith, what even brought this on?!”
Keith pauses at the door, sighs deeply, and turns back around.
“I was mad. I was really mad. That I’d finally gotten up the nerve to kiss you and I almost lost you the next fucking morning. So. I was mad. And I decided I didn’t want to—to... but now… I’m a freaking Galra, Lance. And we’re fighting a war. And I’m not— we’re not… maybe we don’t have a lot of time and I was wasting it by being... angry.”
He walks back up to Lance and kisses him so hard he ends up on his back again. Lance nearly chokes because he doesn’t have the chance to catch his breath and he refuses to be the one to pull away.
It makes his moan come out faster, louder, a little more desperate and maybe Keith hears it and worries because he pulls off then. He kisses Lance’s cheeks and his nose while he catches his breath and he breathe in too.
“Bonus, I really, really wanted to kiss you. And I wasn’t going to wait another minute to do it.”
Lance feels his chest swell a little at that, having gotten enough breath in his lungs he grabs Keith by the back of the neck and pulls him in for another kiss.
It’s quicker, and softer. Lance has the moment to register his own taste on Keith’s tongue before he remembers Allura’s warning.
“I still think you’re nuts. Who jumps straight to blowjobs— “
Keith huffs another laugh. “Who cums after like five minutes— “
“YOU SIR do not get to judge me! You pounced on me! I was not prepared!” Lance kisses him again before he can rebuttal and when Keith is sighing, his lips looking soft and wet and bruised and perfect, he rolls his eyes and grazes his hand over his cheek.
“You wait though. I have to prove myself when we get back now. Cause you’re freaking nuts.”
Keith laughs so hard he’s still chuckling when his suit is on.
It takes a dark look from Allura for him to stop. Lance doesn’t like it. So, he suggests a kiss for luck, realizes that he and Keith haven’t exactly gone public yet and immediately turns to Allura because— well no one would think that was weird right?
He was protecting Keith’s privacy!
It was a joke!
He didn’t think she’d actually do it—
The minor heart attack he had when he felt something against his lips that was so very not Keith should have been punishment enough. Finding out it was a mouse?? Even worse!
But ya know. Go figure, you get a blowjob from the guy you’re kind of falling in love with and then joke about kissing a girl in front of him— yeah okay he probably deserves Keith’s fury when they return to their rooms after the mission. When Keith keeps his head lowered and tries to keep a pace ahead of him at all times, make it to his room first.
And when he does and Lance reaches out to brush the small of his back, test the waters, he feels Keith pull away for the first time since it all started, and his door shuts behind him.
So yeah. Yeah okay he deserved that.
It’s also why later that evening comes as such a shock.
He hadn’t had the energy to go through his usual skin care routine. Struggling against the obsessive thoughts to let himself into Keith’s room and curl up beside him, explain what had happened in his ridiculous brain to think that was a good idea. Not even to make good on their little agreement he just wanted to forget how awful it felt to watch him pull away!
And Keith didn’t want to waste time being angry. He’s just said that. He’d just said that!
And then Lance had to go and make him angry.
Stupid.
Stupid.
He should get out of bed right this second and apologize. Keith would forgive him once he understood, once he knew Lance was serious and absolutely wasn’t taking advantage of him— which. Should probably mean Lance shouldn’t let himself into Keith’s room while he’s asleep. Because Keith is so soft when he sleeps and they both know how he is and—
Okay new plan. Getting up early, waiting patiently outside Keith’s door for the red Paladin to come out for his morning training, and then apologizing. With everyone fully awake and not inclined to be distracted.
Yeah.
Solid plan.
When it feels like he’s just finally gotten to sleep, having been anxious and worried all night, something warm comes to lean against his side.
He’s tired, and it’s comfortable, and he doesn’t know if he slept through his door opening and closing or if the presence just materialized out of thin air, but he isn’t complaining.
He thinks he may have mumbled Keith’s name.
He probably did.
He knows he did. Because he knows it’s Keith’s face pressing into his neck and breathing him in. He knows its Keith’s hair brushing his cheeks and he knows it’s his hands pulling him close.
Lance softly wraps the arm not bound by the covers and Keith’s weight around him, still a little apprehensive that he might pull away again. That this might actually be a dream and it’ll all go away when he opens his eyes.
He doesn’t risk it, but the pressure remains.
“Goodnight…” Keith mumbles finally, he sounds put out, like he’d struggled to come to this conclusion, but Lance doesn’t mind.
Just whispers his name again with a contented sigh and kisses the top of his head.
In the morning, when Keith wakes up first with an angry little growl and straddles Lance’s waist to ask what the fuck he was thinking Lance does his best to keep his brain on track.
And when Keith inevitably accepts his groveling and kisses him softly, (“this one’s actually for luck.”) Lance feels all the tension ease from his bones before flipping Keith onto his back and cuddling into him.
“And whenever you wanna collect on your side of things just uh. You let me know, yeah, babe?”
Keith laughed and wrapped his arms around Lance’s head, “yeah right... maybe later.”

exactly one (1) person expressed interest in my au so i guess that’s good enough for me lmao. here’s my take on love bug klance au (set mid season 2 i guess):
The team are out to ask a planet to join the coalition when Keith gets bitten by a large bug on his neck. Lance panics and immediately squashes it, Keith momentarily faints and almost falls but Lance catches him. Lance alerts the group to what’s happening as Keith starts to wake up, Lance is concerned and asks Keith if he’s alright.
Keith thinks ‘god i really want to kiss him right now’, and immediately he does. The team arrive to see them kissing, and all sort of jump with the surprise of it. When Keith pulls back Lance just stares wide eyed at Keith “Uhhh….” to which Keith responds “what?”
Lance spots the bite on Keith’s neck and is reminded of the situation. He explains best he can while minorly freaking out that Keith got bit by a bug and is now acting weird. Pidge recalls reading about a sort of ‘love bug’ while doing some research on the planet and suggests maybe that’s what it was that bit Keith. Lance kind of freaks because he wanted Keith to kiss him but not because of some stupid love bug!!
Shiro calms the situation and suggests that Pidge take Lance and Keith back to the Castle so Coran can take a look at them while Shiro and Hunk continue on to search for the locals. He tells them to keep them informed on anything that they find out. They all agree.
Keith is still minorly disorientated but allows himself to be dragged along. He has trouble balancing along with being exhausted so mostly leans into Lance. Pidge starts to tease the two, but mostly just Lance with how flustered he’s being over the whole situation.
[diagnosis drabble:
“So, the lack of balance, exhaustion and minor confusion is because Keith is basically drunk?” Pidge clarified as Keith groggily dozed on Lance’s shoulder who had been tense ever since Keith sat down as close to him as possible.
“Yes! The ‘love bug’ as you call it, effects different species in different ways as they react to the substance that was injected. I’m not entirely sure whether it was the human part or the Galra part that cause those symptoms but it’s highly likely that was the root of it all.” Coran explained, taking a small blood sample from Keith who only whined gently but make no move to stop him.
“How long will Keith...be like this?” Lance dared to ask, which only made Keith snuggle closer to him as he was reminded of Lance’s existence.
“Well the intoxication aspect should only last until he sleeps it off, but the rest...It’s hard to say. My best guess would be anywhere between a few days and a week. It’s not exactly a dire situation, so I’d just try your best to act as normal! After all, Keith’s still the same, just acting on things he wouldn’t normally!”
“That’s the worst part though!” Lance hissed, trying to keep his words from being registered by the person he was talking about. “He’s going to be so mad that this happened, I mean, it’s not like he wanted to do any of this stuff!”
“Maybe he did. You don’t know what he wanted.” Pidge challenged him, with a raised eyebrow.
“Pidge, c’mon it’s me. We fight like cats and dogs, and everything is always a competition between us. He probably hates me and the only reason we’re not at all out war is because we’re fighting in a war already!”
“I’m tired.” Keith murmured, gently squeezing Lance’s arm and rubbing his thumb over the back of Lance’s hand. “Come sleep with me?”
Lance squawked, while Pidge choked with laughter.
“Um! No thank you! But I will take you to your room so you can sleep!” Lance managed to squeak.
“Oh, okay.” Keith glumly replied and let himself be lead out of the medbay, still leaning heavily into Lance, and sighing thankfully when Lance wrapped an arm around his waist to help keep him upright.
“See you later lovebirds!” Pidge called, heading back towards her lion to join the rest of Team Voltron for the coalition talk. ]
The next morning starts from Keith’s POV as he loosely remembers the previous day. He joins the team at breakfast acting completely normal, right up until he sees Lance and kisses his cheek, smiling and saying good morning before going about his routine. This leaves Lance disorientated and the rest of the team somewhere between amused and bewildered about how nonchalant Keith was being. Lance asks if Keith’s feeling alright because he doesn’t normally do that, and Keith just explains “I wanted to do it, so I just...did it?”
The day progresses like that. The team are somewhat confused about how differently Keith is acting to how they think he should be, as although he sticks close to Lance most of the day, he doesn’t always. He tends to go off on his own and do things that he wouldn’t normally. Things like messing with stuff he shouldn’t, asking random questions that border on invasive, taking a joyride with Red for no reason even though it risks being tracked by Galra.
Whenever he sees Lance he always hugs him, or cuddles close along with kissing Lance’s cheek. Lance is halfway between angsting that it’s a result of a love bug and enjoying it while it lasts. But then Keith also occasionally hugs the rest of the team every now and then.
It isn’t until the third day does Lance come across Pidge looking at the insect population data of the planet. He spots a picture of the supposed love bug and tells her that picture looks a little different to the bug he saw bite Keith. Pidge is confused, and asks Lance to explain the differences. Lance does, saying that the color was a little bit less vibrant and had three horns curved in a different direction rather than two.
Pidge’s eyes widens as she pulls up a different image and asks if this was the bug that he saw bite Keith, and Lance immediately recognises it. He says that was the bug that bit Keith, but then gets confused with how Keith’s been acting.
Pidge explains that the bug in question isn’t the love bug at all, it’s a different species that closely resembles it but is instead a bug that removes people’s impulse control. She explains that people think about doing things all the time but get held back by different reasons: that they’re not allowed too, that they shouldn’t do it and that they’re scared to do it, etc. The bug removes that impulse control so that the bitten will act on them almost immediately after thinking about it.
Lance’s heart leaps to his throat because then that would mean Keith had been wanting to kiss him and cuddle him before the bite but never did. He shakily tells that to Pidge who breaks into a grin. “See I told you!”
But then Pidge stops. And reminds Lance that Keith already had a very bad impulse control, so he’s going to be even worse on missions now. Lance thinks about all the times that Keith almost died pulling off insane things and almost has a heart attack. “We need to tell everyone. Now.”
They frantically race to the control room and calls everyone but Keith up there. They hastily inform the group about their findings and Coran goes on to add that he’d thought Keith’s behaviour wasn’t properly lining up to the properties of the love bug considering he wasn’t constantly hanging off Lance. He says that the impulse control bug only lasts about four days. Shiro just about has a heart attack as he realises why the two were frantic about reporting their findings.
Hunk suggests that someone should be with Keith at all times to properly keep an eye on him. Allura’s attention is caught by seeing Keith taking another joyride in Red, alerting the group. Lance immediately volunteers to bring him back.
Lance gets Keith to come back, explaining the lack of impulse control to Keith but skirting around the idea of romance. The next day (the final day of the bug) Voltron is needed and they head into battle. Keith, Lance and Hunk infiltrate a Galra ship to evacuate prisoners, when Lance gets cut off from them due to a corridor collapse. Lance tries to get them to get out, but Keith leaps through it regardless of the broken glass and jagged metal that cuts into him.
Lance tells Keith off for it but Keith explains he wasn’t going to leave Lance alone. So the two try to find another way out, they find their way to the bay where they’d parked their lions but Keith manages to take a shot meant for Lance without Lance seeing. The two get in their lions and leave, the team forming Voltron and taking out the ship.
The team get out of their hangars and Lance goes to meet Keith but is shocked and scared when Keith collapses due to the large wound on his side that’s bleeding heavily. Lance hauls Keith up and runs to the medbay informing the team on what was happening.
Lance asks Keith in tears why he did that, and Keith replies that he loves him and wouldn’t hesitate. He weakly smiles and says that he would have done it even without the stupid impulse control bug. And Lance have sobs because he knew he would. Lance tells him that he loves him too, and explains his feelings when they thought it was just a love bug, and how he felt when they realised the truth. Just before he gets to the medbay he says “I love you too, Keith, damn it but I’m going to be so mad if you die before I get to properly ask you out on a date.”
Keith laughs and coughs, as they find the rest of the team. They don’t hesitate to help a now fading Keith out of his armor and into a pod suit. Keith and Lance hold hands right up until they finish putting him in the pod.
Keith POV to stepping out the pod two days later, he’s suddenly incredibly awkward around everyone as he remembers what he was like while bitten and can’t look at Lance without going completely red. Eventually the rest of the gang all realise that Keith and Lance need to talk and peter away.
Lance asks if he remembers everything and Keith nods. Lance asks if he meant everything and again Keith shyly nods. Lance gently asks as he takes a hold of one of Keith’s hands — making Keith gasp softly as Lance rubs a thumb over the back of his hand — “Were you ever going to tell me?”
Keith slowly leans over into Lance’s side, and takes a breath. “I’m not sure.”
Lance looks over at him.
“I mean...I have had crushes in the past, but I’ve never really...acted on them. They either go away, or the person goes away. I just...didn’t really know what to do.”
Lance considers this for a moment. “Alright then, well now that you have told me, and I’ve told you...Keith Kogane, would you like to go on a date with me?”
Keith looks over and shyly smiles. “Yeah. I’d love to.”
The two slowly lean in to have a proper kiss since their first one right after the bug bite. It’s slow and sweet and gentle.
When they pull back Lance whispers with a smile, “It’s a date then.”
