I've been thinking too much about Revolutionary Girl Utena and when I saw this fanart seeing Mark hold that sword and David leaning on Mark is bringing back memories of the scene where Anthy stabs Utena so she loses the duel with Akio bc it's meant to symbolize Anthy fearing what will happen without Akio if Utena wins the duel the way abusers often tell their victims a life without them doesn't exist and to leave them is to leave life itself so their victim will feel the need to cling to them and may sabotage others' attempts at helping them leave their abuser.

I want to redraw that scene with Mark stabbing one of his friends in order to symbolize his intolerance for change and the need to stay in control. He doesn't know what will happen, so he sabotages his friends to ensure nothing changes and he can maintain control.

But idk which one of his friends he should stab so I put together this poll.

Just know that I haven't drawn any of the Elders other than Mark before (I drew him only twice).

It won't be ship art, just a character study with a bunch of symbolism.

Kenneth definitely took a shot when the overpass was built that his siblings hadn't (as far as we know), and grew up inspired and guided by Haru who was selfless and probably had other positive qualities to be modelled.

He also built the "fame" his younger siblings got passed on and took for granted. It wasn't his intention to become the king, and he knew humble times before that. Both Cheyenne and Xavier knew they will overtake the throne and had an opportunity to grow hubris over it. Both encouraged by their parents but also the kids at the creek they learned there's no boundaries/consequences to their actions.

I can sort of see Cheyenne's fierce spirit being fueled through the contrast with her loving chill older brother, and Xavier's as a rebuttal/modelling off his older sister (we saw her feed his inner revenge monster and actually train him).

Xavier had a whole character arc at the end of the show that delved into how he was greedy for power because he was lonely without it because what are social skills and basic empathy. I think he just didn't learn people skills because he didn't need to when making a scene/buying people worked well enough short term. Plus he already had Cheyenne's ways as an example.

Cheyenne had a load of expectations on herself when she replaced the beloved first king Kenneth, and toughened up to rule with an iron hand, she explained all of that herself. I don't think she was necessarily a mean kid before that.

I would really love an analysis of Xaviers family from Craig of the creek. I think all the siblings r so interesting, and i think it goes deeper than Xavier just being a spoiled kid. I can see that being the case maybe for his sister, but i just feel like theres something more to Xaviers character. Kenneth is literally like the sweetest guy on earth and he's not like that! Maybe that has something to do with him being the oldest of the three of them? I just think its interesting how both his younger siblings seem to have some sociopathic tendencies
