this makes me really sentimental because it is a representation of cooking as an act of love, and of cooking as a chain of love

this is the same recipe my mom used to make for me and my sister growing up - she'd make the dough, and we'd cut them out with our million and one cookie cutters, and then she'd make cream cheese frosting in a variety of colors and we'd have a cookie decorating day.

my mom got the recipe from the day care me and my sister went to as a baby - in our family cookbook (it's more of a compilation of all the recipes we use fairly regularly and enjoy; my dad put it together and he updates it every so often. I actually made my first independent contribution to the cookbook this year, when I made chana masala for my family and he asked where I found the recipe so I could add it to the cookbook) (it was bbc good food) the recipe is still titled after that day care.

and now I get to make it for Lucy and their family, my new family. I get to show them what I love so much about food.

This was the first Christmas I can remember that no one in my small family fought (emotionally or physically) or experienced anything tragic. I’m gonna say like, 15 years since this last happened?? We have all been thru a hell of a lot and it was so nice to see everyone at peace for even just 2 days!!!

so boss’ daughter has been in and out of the hospital recently, and one of her post-discharge requests (which---right now, I think he’d open a vein if she asked) was that I give her a cooking/baking lesson.

which, a) is wildly flattering, given that she’s just eaten whatever her dad brings home from the office; and b) has been scheduled for tomorrow, a fact which is making me vibrate at a level that is probably bad for my blood pressure but is definitely making me go over baseboards with a paper towel.

ty ty !! baking I've been doing almost as long as I can remember. we're a big baking family, especially on my mom's side, so I've just always done it. I can't cook for shit tho, most of my groceries are freezer aisle premade stuff lmao

cake decorating I've also done a few times growing up, but I started working as a cake decorator in 2017 I think? and I hadn't really seriously decorated a cake before then. I just had a background in art so when a decorator left our store they put me in to cover for a bit and they were like wait shit she's good at this. my nan was a cake decorator so my dad picked up a bit from her, and he decorated all our birthday cakes growing up so I picked up a bit from him. kind of a shame my nan died shortly before I started decorating. but yeah my mom and dad are like this one-two punch where one likes baking and the other likes making things look nice

🍭🍫❤️ With my schoolwork done for the week, I am on campus working on my latest assignment. Back in January, Tanille tasked me with sketching out ideas for a Valentines Day-themed activity day with the daycare kids at Lake Land. My ideas for games and crafts range from flowers made of tissue paper, ladybugs made of paper plates, paper lollipops, and a would-you-rather card game.

In farm clexa, how does Madi learn that Santa Claus isn't real? Does she catch her mommies in the act of putting her present in her stocking? Does someone inadvertently let the secret out?

Madi is never taught Santa is real. Not that Clarke doesn't want to for the Christmas magic but Lexa feels like it's an unnecessary lie and not a tradition she wants to start in their family. This does cause a bit of tension but Clarke ends up agreeing. Truth is if they started with the Santa story, they'd also have to come up with an excuse as to why Madi's school friends get more presents than her or, because their daughter dreams big, didn't Santa stop people from being mean to animals like she asked.

Clarke also had a lot more growing up than Lexa did, so Lexa promised herself she would make Christmas about the experience and not about gifts and Santa, while to Clarke Christmas is about the childhood wonder of Santa and the presents.

So Madi never really believed in Santa. Clarke tells her stories about Santa but Madi doesn't believe in him any more than she believes in fairies or dragons - she just likes to pretend he's real because it's fun. She takes pictures with the Santa that visits the toy shop in town, she squeals when she sees him at the parade the town puts on but she doesn't really think he's coming to bring her presents. It also helps her appreciate the presents her mommas and her grandparents and aunts and uncles buy her.

And although Clarke hates to do so, she's gotta admit Lexa was right on the Santa issue 😌

I feel like the person who decided that plain short dough cookies are the go to chrismas cookie needs to be beaten with hammers bc bc of them every year since you were a child until the day you die your family will torture you with this atrocity that tastes like sand mixed with sugar and will act utterly insulted if you refuse their attempts to forcefeeed you the most disgusting bakery good on planet earth.
