Okay some more Pinki tea because nobody is here from my college.
Pinki had a bf named Bunty (not using real names hehe). Bunty is from bengal and studies there while Pinki is here with me in odisha (Pinki is from bihar tho) anyway so Pinki and Bunty are a couple from school time so this was going to be a long distance relationship.
Now cut to the first week of us joining. She began telling how green flag this Bunty is, how sweet, caring and observant this guy is. She starts talking about marriage and the right age to marry. Help I was stupid to let out my dreams and ambitions in front of Pinki and ofc why in this generation would marriage be the first thing in my head? I have a lovely boyfriend who literally wants me to perform the best in dance and studies (he literally scolds me if I slack 😭)than talk about marriage and omg we need to marry and have kids soon.
This girl at 2am literally said it to my face: if you don't compromise a little with him and don't marry early, he might be married off and you will break his heart by saying you want your ambitions first bla bla bla. You compromise on postponing your dreams so you can marry.
Me in my head: bitch wtf- Trust me I have never wanted to smack someone's head off.
This ☕ is long
Well after a while 3 boys: Jaggu, Kheera, Chotu from our class befriend us- Me, Pinki and Lado (she is very innocent, slightly childish and very very messy but okay. A delight though)

1st December, 2023.
I visited Bali Jatra for fourth time today. Bali Jatra is the Asia's largest open trade fair, that is held in Cuttack every year. It begins from the day of Kartika Purnima and lasts for 7-8 days. This year, it started on 27th November and will end on 4th December.
It is held to pay homage to the maritime history of Odisha.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bali Jatra may be just a fair for others, but an emotion and nostalgia for us Cuttackias. And I am simply obsessed with it since childhood and love to visit it daily.
When I was in my Class 10th, our tuition teacher forbade us to go to Bali Jatra, because he didn't want us to miss classes and lag behind the studies. Any kid who missed classes during those days, even if for other reasons, was punished severely. I didn't miss any classes, instead I went to Bali Jatra during the one-hour gap between school and tuition. It was tiring, but anything for Bali Jatra. I am that crazy about Bali Jatra.
So, today I went with Mom. Last three times I went there alone. People always ask me, don't I feel awkward visiting a fair alone? And yes, I did feel uncomfortable initially, but now I am used to it.
I have always visited the fair with my mom. Her office and my school were located at walking distance to the fair ground. Infact, the fair ground is midway between both the the places. When I was a kid, my mom would pick me up from school and we would walk to the fair and return to her office later. This used to be our daily routine during those 7-8 days.
And after I went to college, I used to go to her office and then we used to walk to the fair daily.
But then my mom retired and could not travel daily to visit the fair because of her health. I found no one else is crazy enough to accompany me daily. When my sister and bff hadn't moved out of town for higher studies/job, they used to go with me somedays. But after them, I got used to visit the fair alone.
Today, I bought a new Lord Jagannath idol from Bali Jatra. As an Odia, it doesn't matter how many such idols, posters or photos we have in our home, there is always space for more.
Then, I found some cute palm leaf Pattachitra bookmarks. Pattachitra is traditional Odia scroll painting. They are usually painted on cloth, palm leaves, coconut shells, wooden surfaces etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course, fair visit cannot be complete without buying some earrings. I also found Desiblr favourite peacock earrings.
My mom bought household stuffs like phool jhadu, Kandhamal haldi (pure, organic turmeric from Southern Odisha), some organic lentils etc. and then we had chat and pani puri.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, I had a fun day with my mom and got reminded of those school days when we used to do this daily.

Why isn’t mass media more neutral?
Disclaimer: I’m not taking any sides here, nor am I provoking any of you to say it, but this has been on my mind quite a bit and I feel like saying it now: Honestly saying, I’ve always felt like the media favours Palestine over Israel way to much even tho media is supposed to be neutral.
Essays in exams, front pages of newspaper, stars on social media always talk about Palestine but seem to be painting a rather black and white “Palestine good Israel bad” picture but never seem to be willing to dwell deeper into the topic, and when they they go somewhat below the surface it’s always from Palestine’s perispective only, nothing explaining Israel’s side of story as passionately even if at all. Even in India vs Pakistan wars, you’ll find motives and aggressions from both sides easily enough if you looked.
“Stars” like Bela Hadid raise slogans demanding Israel’s dissolve under the ruse of Palestine’s independence and no one bats an eye. The founder of Human rights watch left the organisation saying that it was being biased towards Palestine and has forgotten its original purpose. A lot of funding of these pro palestine news channels comes from Pro Islamic nations organisations, most of the said countries being Palestine supporters.
Palestine is suffering, yes, but it’s not just Israel that’s making it suffer. Hamas has a major role to play too. It kills its own civilians more than Israel does. Palestine has seen some serious bloodshed since Hamas came into power but no one seems to focus on that. There’s little to no discussion about how Palestine is bleeding internally due to hamas, but only the stuff that can be used against Israel.
You’ll hear about how Israel “attacked” Gaza and most of the times it turns out to be some retaliation. We always hear about civilian deaths whose names are never revealed but no one ever wonders what civilians were doing around militant bases. We talk about how palestinians are being thrown out of Israel to show them as big aggressors and it turns out that the land was originally Israel’s territory to begin with.
I’m not being pro-Israel here, And I very well admit that it can have its fair share of violations, such as killing of the one Al-Jazeera reporter , accident or not (look, I fucking hate that platform but that doesn’t mean I condone killing of someone who didn’t do anything) but this is something that has always made me curious. It can’t be as simple as “Israel evil”, can it?

How to Encourage a Positive Attitude in Students?
Negative thinking is a massive barrier. It limits your potential, prevents you from making progress, and halts your forward momentum in life, whether you're seeking knowledge, personal development, or happiness. Parents have a significant impact on their school-aged children's development, whether they are homeschooled or enrolled in the top school in Odisha. Thus, parents of K-12 students can witness firsthand the remarkable changes that take place when their children learn to value themselves and maintain an optimistic outlook.
Present Yourself as an Example
What better method to encourage optimism than to create an upbeat atmosphere? Post numerous quotes that are examples of optimistic attitudes as you establish a homeschool classroom bulletin board or planner or as you design your child's online school workplace. Create some fun by making magnets out of your favourite motivational sayings and sticking them to the fridge. When your kid faces academic problems and possibilities, a happy environment can do wonders to eliminate negative thinking and encourage a healthy learning mindset.
Tumblr media
Help Students Visualise Positive Outcomes
Having regular goal-setting sessions with your student is crucial, as is explicit outlines the conditions under which they will be successful. Consider how it will feel when you finally succeed. To what extent will you be rewarded? How should one define success, and why does it even matter? Teaching your pupil the answers to these questions can help them develop a more optimistic outlook and focus on the bright side of things.
Avoid Negative Talk
Take a deep breath and relax when your pupil says, "I can't do it." Communicate this negative outlook to your kid. Try to get to the bottom of the deeper meaning. Inquire as to what is holding you back and create a strategy for overcoming it. You may change your child's "I Can't" into a "We Can" by showing them that you are in this together.
Tumblr media
Be Their Biggest Fan
Your attitude as a parent or Learning Coach in an online school setting can have a profound effect on your child's sense of competence. They will develop the same traits if you have faith in your student. As a parent, you might want to try out some of these self-acceptance exercises to help your child recognise his or her individual qualities. When this happens, the learner can start thinking more positively, building self-esteem, and accepting who they are as an individual.

I just remembered something. Now like most lower middle class children, I was also the one brought up with hindi movies, songs and ofc hindi serials. Now, I was all 12 when for the first time i was studying in one of those posh schools in kolkata. The area where the school wasn't that posh but the children definitely were. Bmws, businessmen, surgeons doctors, club owners, ameeron ke bache.
So i have met showoff kids who show their money and status discreetly like they will be your friends, give you notes, share tiffin but also in a way show you that you aren't rich. And i also met some realy rich kids who could afford partying at expensive hotels, but God they were so humble and down to earth.
That was when I had learnt how to fit in. Now my friends were the ones who from the start watched English comedies, knew the lyrics to English pop songs and watched web series.
For me the concept of web series, Netflix etc started in kolkata when I was 13-14. I would see the photos of their colonies and all and would go damn I want to live like them too.
Now to fit in I began watching those English movies and songs I trained my ears to understand the words because for the first time when you hear them it feels like a rap song at least that's what it was for me. Soon after a couple of months I learnt how to understand those lyrics without captions and stuff and could sing that. In free periods in my old schools we used to sing hindi songs retro to modern, here it went bieber, ed Sheeran, Taylor and all those. I went with the same now. I remember ny 8th grad winter vacation where I was learning their lyrics.
Now my friend had invited me to her birthday party. My brother was anyway angrez from rhe start so everyone consented to watch some old English comedy series
And boy I felt so awkward because I saw them clutching their stomach and laughing while there was me trying to find where was the joke -
I only focused on having 2 pieces of pizza for that entire show lol. I trained how to pick up English songs but not the jokes.
Somehow I ended up liking no loving 1d which started out again as a way to fit in with the others and now I have fell out of it.
You know being with them around them I too wanted to live their kinda lifestyle. Rich homes, big rooms, parties and events, those clothes and stuff, money outings. I was young and kehte hai na bahar ka dekh ke chaka chaundh hona?
But now I have lost all that interest I once had. Sure I want money and a good lifestyle but not that. Now that I am growing I see how many of them are shallow on the inside. With money clothes parties they don't see anything beyond it it's like a glittery cover on the outside.
And once again I found myself after I was separated from the school and the community. I can't enjoy Friends Or The Office. I cannot understand those sit coms shows like they must be good but not something for me. Taylor and other pop singers and other ones I do find them interesting and ofc talented in their respective fields, but yeah that's not for me.
I actually like this lower middle class life. I have been brought up living with uncertainty and maybe that's why I was taught to live in the present. For some time it was good in those bright rich homes, rich friends, shine and sparkles, but I feel much at home with niche baith ke khana, local dukano mein shopping aur hindi serials ka mazak bannate huye bhi aage ke episodes pe hooked rehna. Many of my friends ask me why are you so devi dharmik types because you talk about gods, wear Indian clothes and are all traditional when the world is advancing india too.
Bhai these are my roots my values and the way I was brought up. There's nothing wrong in either of those lifestyles. Mera gaon kahin andar odisha mein hai papa mere jis gaon school se the vahan ab tak bijli nahi aati. I like this simplicity that we live with. And dharmik devi stuff isn't my entire personality meri choice hai I don't like going out to parties and clubs and go around calling every boy and girl my bestie, babes, darling when I see them only once.
And middle class vale bich ke phasse hote hai ameer bhi gareeb bhi dono inme hai. You learn many things while growing up in a middle class family.
Bahut gyan de diya mein jaati ab padhne

Language skills are more important than ever in our interconnected world. It can be hard for kids and parents in Odisha to figure out how to translate from English to Odia. Accurate translating is a key part of doing well in school, whether it’s for understanding chores, talking to teachers, or just getting information. This guide is meant to give parents and students the tools and tips they need to confidently English to Odia Translation.
Understanding the Need for Translation:
Even though Odia is the main language spoken at home and in many towns, English is very important in the workplace and in school. English courses, tests, and web tools are common things that students come across. Parents may need to explain school notes, talk to teachers, or help their kids with their English tasks.
Academic Success: To fully understand difficult ideas in topics like history, math, and science, you need to be able to read and understand the English used in literature and tests.
Improved Communication: To communicate well with teachers, coworkers, and leaders, you often need to be able to use both languages.
Information Access: To learn more than what you can find locally, you might need to look at English websites, books, and other things.
Building Confidence: Being able to translate well gives you more confidence in both languages and opens up school and career options in the future.
Challenges and Solutions:
It’s not always easy to translate from English to Odia. Here are some problems and possible answers to think about:
Cultural and Idiomatic Nuances: It’s possible that direct versions won’t catch the true meaning of certain phrases or cultural references. These gaps can be filled by talking to native speakers or using good texts.
Technical Accuracy: It is very important to make sure that terms used in advanced topics like science and math are correct. It might be necessary to use subject-specific texts or get help from people who are experts in the field.
Formal vs. Informal Registers: Understanding the situation and the people who will be reading the translation is very important. For example, you should not talk about formal papers the same way you talk about casual ones.
Limited Resources: Location and social factors may affect how easy it is to get to good translation tools and learning materials. Thanks to technology, online tools, cell apps, and public libraries can be very helpful.
Building Translation Skills:
Parents and kids can both work on their language skills, which is good news. Take a look at these strategies:
Utilize Online Tools: You can start by using a online translation tool or an Odia-specific app. Make sure the information is correct and use dictionaries to help you understand.
Immerse in Odia Literature: To improve your language skills and understanding of ethnic differences, encourage reading Odia books, media, and online material.
Practice Regular Translation: Translate short emails, stories, and discussions all the time. As a family project, this can be fun and help you think about a lot of different things.
Seek Help from Qualified Professionals: Professional translation services might be worth looking into for important papers, schoolwork, or expert texts.
Engage with Native Speakers: When you can, talk to people who speak Odia as their first language. Language exchange groups, online communities, or just talking to family and friends are all good ways to do this.
Beyond Translation: Bridging the Gap
Remember that translation is more than just swapping words. It’s also about connecting people from different cultures and languages. Parents and children can use their language skills in the following ways:
