personal thoughts:

this is literally the best BL game series that i've ever played.

out of every single story that i’ve ever played in cinamon game, i dare myself to say that kill your boss is the best one so far!

the story is exactly my preference, no plot holes, nervewrecking plot twists and not to mention that this is one crazy love story that i truly like. the story doesnt revolve around love cliches, but more like the mystery that lies underneath the character’s background. such a well-made story!

the story might be a little bit to dark for someone with light preference since there are many sex scenes and weird kink (for a pervert and huge BL lover like me, it was completely okay)

i was kinda torn between noah or logan as my ending route because to be honest, in real life, i prefer someone stable like noah. but, well since this is just a game (and i need something way more tempting), i gotta choose our crazy logan harris! ✌🏻

sooo without further ado, let's do the whole review (this will be a long one)

the story started with a little bit background of the mc's story. our mc is working under logan harris, one of the most potential candidates to continue as the head of the biggest mafia organization, black star. the mc is not a regular subordinate. he is one of logan's most trusted person and one of the highest ranking member in black star

however, our mc had a little secret. he’s a cia agent working to expose logan’s organization. so in short, he was sent to make sure that logan secure the position as the next heir of black star before finally aria, the cia manager and the one who is taking the mc from the street, crushed black star.

long story short, there is one person that stands in logan's way go become the heir, riam zimmer. riam and logan are competitors that wanted to secure the position of black star. as both of them want to secure the position, the fight continued until grayson lee, the current leader, died. all evidence pointed to either logan, riam or our mc.

in the beginning, aria also sent out noah, mc's old cia agent and friend, to become riam zimmer's right hand. as the story goes, all our three boys fell in love with the mc.

the mc had one goal: to assist logan until he become the chairman, and more importantly, to gain his life back as a cia agent. however, things didnt work out according to the plan...

here are some genius story line that i truly like from kill your boss:

1. the fact that logan knows that the mc is a cia agent

logan already knew our mc is a cia agent. but he didnt do anything. he just let him stay by hid side

"when are you going to tell me?"

"how much do you think i know?"

all those questions.. logan knew all the time. logan knew our mc is gonna leave him even tho he stayed by his side for the past 8 years.

biggest plot twist so far.

2. when mc asked himself if he's even a cia agent at this point

although logan loves our mc a lot, he's not.. the easiest person to love. he's crazy, ambitious and cruel. he harrased our mc a lot, up to the point that our mc almost got considered as a prostitute in the organization.

our mc is supposed to pretend. and now after all those years, he has becoming a real thug, he can kill people and he can sleep with guys.. this is not the kind of live that he wants.

thus.. that's why..

3. how aria is truly a genius. she wants to create a war for riam and logan to kill each other, and set our mc to become the chairman of black star

this makes more sense as noah started to reveal everything.. the reason why aria manipulated both logan and riam. she truly is a leader and an alpha woman. she's cruel indeed.. for the greater good. but still i had to applaud her goal

4. riam used to be a cia agent as well!

i always thought riam is a bit too proper as a mafia. but now i know why. turns out all this time, he used to be a cia agent before the old director cut him off and deleted his record.

now i understand why he seems to want to help our mc. why he said he can give protection to both the mc and hailey

the storyline is just perfect in this story. no plot holes. i love it a lot. even the bad ending and the good ones still left a very memorable spot to your heart.

literally a hidden gem. this game series should definitely got a manhwa or kdrama adaptation ✨

Hey after I read your final Kill your boss post, I started watching the Logan path you linked and oh man I'm blown away by how the character sprites in this game are so lively, like you see how their expressions change and hand and body movements are pretty fluid and bring a lot of life to the characters and I'm enjoying experiencing the plot too! :D

While I was digging around Youtube and that playlist, I was impressed all over again. Seeing Alex (MC), Logan, and everyone on the big screen reminded me that damn, this art is pretty snappy, y'all.

Like, Voltage's games, Choices, Chapters, Nix Hydra's games, and NTT Solamore's games all have sprites which change expressions, positions, and outfits. Don't get me wrong, they're awesome. They don't move like Cinamon Games' sprites do. At most they kind of, idk if jump is the right word. Maybe bounce? Anyway, the point is, they're not animated.

The only other app I can think of with, like, animated sprites is Nanobit's My Story: Choose Your Own Path. They're good at what they do. The animation isn't as smooth as with Cinamon Games: it's more like doll limbs moving around at the joint.

My main gripe with Maybe is how much it's pay-to-win. But that gripe fades into the background when I'm goggling their CGs. In the app, the CGs have this like, this animated sparkly poka dot light filter on them. That moves too. Also makes me have to time my screenshots real well, so a character's face isn't totally obscured lol

A sweet daily life. Lots of friends. A peaceful world without bloodshed or violence. The things I couldn't have even if I tried all my life--Noah had it all. With that thought crossing my mind, the sight of him was...dazzling.

What if Hailey and I had lived in this kind of environment? If we'd grown up like that, no personal tragedies or misfortune. Would we be living better lives?

Alex: I thought about Hailey. I wondered whether we would have grown up bright and happy if we were raised in this kind of environment.

Noah: Why...You are perfect as you are! Why do you think that? It hurts to hear you talk this way. So, don't say that kind of thing in front of someone who cares about you!

Someone who cares about me... Yeah. Young has always been this kind of person. For 7 years, the whole time... But, perhaps, because of that--I hurriedly took his hand off me.

Professor Young: If so, I'm afraid I can't help you. All labs are occupied with other projects right now. In order to stop one of the projects to analyze this, I need an official letter that requests cooperation.

Noah: Is there any other way to analyze this? This is really important.

Professor Young: Hmmm...I know someone who knows this kind of stuff really well. But, it's far from here. You'd better leave as early as possible.

He handed me a note with an address written on it.

Where we last left our mafioso, the capos were supposed to meet the boss in their dandiest digs to plead their case. Logan and MC show up first, but Logan gets called away to check the dog pit. Yes. They have a dog pit. There's dogs in it. Death by puppy it shall be. I just--murder ain't my area, but I feel like there must be a less outrageous method to choose as your signature gang kill. Like. Hm. Is this a "it's so overt it's covert" thing or. How are these guys still in operation.

ANYWAY, MC and the boss chat about how MC has the nicest clothes and fanciest outfits. The boss favors Logan + MC to become the next Boss + Under-boss. However, he's worries there's a mole in the gang, because someone gave him a rap sheet of his crimes and how the courts could convict him. MC is like "Wait. That's not my report. Is one of my co-workers here?? Damn, I knew I should have familiarized myself with the Employee Directory." asdfghjkl;'sfjlf DUDE

The boss's drink runs out, and MC politely pours him more from a glass decanter. But oh no!! The drink is poisoned!!! The titular prophecy has come true!

MC panics. Logan returns and is like "MC...okay, I AM mad, but not disappointed." He throws the decanter against the wall to shatter the evidence because no shit is this a set up. They rush the boss to the hospital.

Hours later, said hospital is full of extremely jittery, extremely well-dressed gang members. Riam and his cohorts march in and demand an explanation. They've supposedly run fingerprints on the decanter shards and oh noes, Logan and MC's fingerprints are on it! Riam and Logan square off. Riam has a gun and Logan literally brings a knife to a gun fight. BOY. LOL

You have a choice to protect either man. I chose Logan because, for all his "murder is my preferred love language," he seems the most straightforward and honest. Riam shoots, and MC gets to see his own blood spray the wall, as a treat.

MC wakes up with an extremely distressed Logan at his bedside. They literally do the forehead boop thing and whisper desperate "Are we okay?" pleas while fingers card through hair and OUCH MY HEART. 💔💔💔

Everyone knows a gang war is on the horizon. Logan leaves to make preparations (nooo, don't go, the plot happens when you leaveeeeee) and let MC rest. One time skip later, MC is discharged with a gnarly-looking bandage. He makes contact with his CIA handler, who is very displeased about this whole affair. For some reason, she wants Logan in charge. Part of MC's mission is to ensure a smooth transition to Logan's reign. This is despite like, clearly having enough evidence to put the original boss and his two potential successors in jail.

Since Logan is under suspicion for the old boss's murder, Riam is poised to become the new boss. The CIA handler instructs MC to go to a secret sex club to get dirt on Riam and put Logan back on top.

And now we're back into full on fun. This isn't just a sex club: it's a secret BDSM sex club (gasp!), and Riam is one of their top clients. Code name White Stallion, he promises "a prize" to anyone who can "tame" him. Which supposedly no one has actually done, but turns out to be incredibly easy.

MC interrupts Riam's session with a dominatrix, which is rude, and she involves him in play without okay-ing everything first, which is very rude. MC takes it in stride and, once again, stomps on Reim's cock. i was in STITCHES AHHH LOL. MC gets a short villain monologue like "Haha! I know you're the White Stallion!" and flees.

Logan calls and asks MC to meet him in Logan's room, which, interestingly, looks exactly like MC's room. 👀 When MC arrives, Logan is like "Why do you smell like sweat and perfume?" and gets a wee bit possessive. By "wee bit" i mean, full on kabedon whilst kissing and teasing mutual handjobs. Gorgeous cheesy dialogue flits through the air like "Don't forget the lap you most love to sit on," and some solid advice like "Stay away from Riam: we're enemies now." The story is HORNY and I LOVE IT. It's blisteringly evident that Logan has fallen in love with his best friend/fuck buddy, and he doesn't know what to do with these emotions. And he's conflicted about the whole dead boss/gang war situation.

MC WISHES he could stay away from Riam, but his next text message is a helluva cold shower: Riam knows he's CIA and demands MC meet him. IDK why MC doesn't like, abort mission. Besides that this story still has 16 chapters. Anyway, he drives to an abandoned warehouse and is immediately surrounded by Riam's men. They escort him inside and the warehouse is all done up like a 5 star restaurant because....

this is a dinner date.

THESE TWO DORKS eat PASTA and POLITELY CHIT CHAT for a whole meal!!!! Pretending that everything is fine???!!! We're flirting now?? I guess we're flirting??? asdfghjkl;kjhgfds

FINALLY, the mask drops, and Riam says MC must join his side or be exposed. Logan may love MC, but that love doesn't necessarily win out over his loyalty to the gang. MC counters that he'll expose Riam as the White Stallion. Reim pushes MC to his knees and we get this CG:

Riam tells MC to lick his shoe (aka join him) or die. I was sweating bullets at this point. I don't want to betray Logan! There's no going back on forehead boop friends!! I clicked the option to refuse. I was fully expecting that my MC would die. It's happened before.

But no!!! MC defies fate! He head-butts Riam in the crotch.

how has this man made it to capo. Against the dulcet tones of horny groans, MC runs. Riam's men catch him, and MC is once again beaten into unconsciousness. He wakes up hours and miles away and by his bed...is his co-worker, Noah Young!!! Is he the other mole?!

I dunno! Noah is an Love Interest and he explains he's been sent in undercover to help MC out. As Riam's new secretary, he can feed MC info, and, if Logan fails, he can be the new CIA informant. I thought it was p clever. "He must be the adorable, sweet love interest!" I think right up until Noah points a gun at MC's head and the chapter ends.

It's still a mess in here. I can still see the trace from the explosion... I rubbed at my exhausted, swollen eyes and looked at Riam. He gathered wooden debris into an oil drum with a practiced hand and lit up a fire.

MC: Now, answer me.

Riam: And if I don't wish to?

MC: Is there a reason?

Riam: ...I do not want to disappoint you. Especially if that is the last I'll see of you.

I walked closer to the flaming oil drum and looked at his face. Just then, Riam grabbed my hand and pulled. His lips parted after a fidgety silence.

Riam: I said I was going to answer, so I will. You must already be aware, but... I am a man who wants many things. And I need to have whatever it is I want. When I met you, what I wanted at the time was the position of chairman. Right after Lee died was my best chance to seize it.

And White gave me his card. She told me it would help if I went to him.... But looking back... All I did was act as a bridge to connect the two. Before I killed Aria--before I aimed my gun at my loved one, at my sister--I needed to know exactly how much I'd been used and for how long. That was the only way...

MC: ...And?

Riam: After you said White's name, I started looking into her. And I found out that she was the head of the Anti-Drug Unit at the CIA. I reached out to her first. But the one who suggested a deal was--

MC: What did Aria want? I thought it was suspicious. You went out of your way to have me and succeed in persuading me. But, to my knowledge, you thought of me as a means to an end, before you told me about your parents. So tell me the truth: did you want me...not only because I'm Logan's man, but also because you wanted to turn me over to Aria?

The sound of the crackling wood was the only noise to fill the air. Riam quietly swallowed a breath. I stared as he avoided my eyes and...

Riam: Is that important--

As he was about to open his mouth, I slapped him--hard enough for my palm to burn.

MC: What the hell are you really thinking? Before, you said I'm your man, that you'll never let me go no matter what happens. And now you're done with me? Or are you thinking of handing me over to Aria, since it's not too late yet?

Riam: Miller. I--

MC: How do I trust you when you're acting like this!! It's the end now. We came all the way here. Make it clear. What the hell do you want!

Riam: I could ask the same to you.

MC: ...What?

Riam: What is it you want? I know what I want very well. And I can swear this to whichever god is out there--what I want is you. I have never wanted anyone else in this kind of way, with this kind of feeling, but what about you? Who do you want?

MC: That's...That's none of your business! I'm saying you should be clear about your attitude--

After that, he took a step closer. He carefully placed his hand on my face and touched his forehead against mine. I felt his heat from his skin, from his eyes that were squeezed shut.

Riam: Say it's me.

MC: Zimmer...

Riam: If you want me...tell me. I will protect you, treasure you, and--I will never let you go. I'm prepared for that.

This isn't...What I was going to talk about... I just wanted to know who to trust between Aria and Zimmer--but my train of thought just stopped right there. Because he carefully kissed me on the lips. I quietly watched his face before me. Then closed my eyes and put my hand on his nape.

We can't be together. There was a time I believed that. But like two parallel lines that come closer to each other as they head to the vanishing point, we met and we touched. We were savage comforts to one another. A life filled with just that--how would that feel against me? For the first time since I met him, I was curious about that life. Curious enough to walk the life after it.

But the moment didn't last long. I pulled my lips away from his face. Because--a sound I couldn't possibly ignore was coming from outside.

MC: It's time to go.

Riam: Can you do it?

MC: Worried?

Riam: ...I'll be waiting. Come back safely.

After kissing my forehead, he exhaled and stepped away from me. I watched his retreating back for a long time. Long enough for it to be a luxury.
