A Relatively Brief Explanation of Anime in Australia, and why it's an absolute Shit Show
So, I make no secret that I'm an Aussie. Not something that comes up a whole lot, but not something worth hiding.
I'm also an anime fan that was born in the 90s, and, coming close to being 30, I find myself thinking back on and comparing how anime is published in this country of mine between then and now.
And frankly, my dear? It's a weird shit show.
For most of my life, we had a sort of 'Big Four' for publishing anime DVD and Blu-ray; Madman Entertainment, Hanabee, Universal, and Siren Visual.
Madman did the mainstream shows. They did your Dragon Ball, your Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, SAO, Konosuba, Madoka, Gundam. They were the ones who got the licenses for the big names.
Hanabee did the not quite as big titles, like the Monogatari series, God Eater, ef, Familiar of Zero, Toradora. They even did the publications of RWBY. If it was a smaller title than the big ones, or more geared towards romance, they were the guys for it.
Siren Visual went even smaller, with titles like Durarara, Clannad, Black Rock Shooter, and both Higurashi and Higurashi Kai, with the license for Higurashi Rei going to our next publisher, Universal.
On their own, though, Universal did less than the others, publishing Shana, Black Lagoon, Index/Railgun, and Aslan, to name a few. What the others didn't eat, Universal would clean the plates.
For the longest time, this was just how it was. Some IPs would flip between the four, such as the Fate series mostly being published by Madman, except for Ufotable's UBW adaptation and the first two seasons of Illya, being under Hanabee's umbrella.
Then, around 2015/2016, Siren Visual basically just dropped off the map. Around that same time, Hanabee and Universal just kinda stopped getting new licenses, and in 2019, Madman was bought out by Aniplex, then got merged into Funimation, who was the new brand for anime publishing until the shit with Crunchyroll happened.
Which brings us to today, where the only new anime BDs and DVDs that are published here are under Crunchyroll's brand, and worst of all, they don't publish absolutely everything that the former competition did. Sure, when a new season of something like Devil is a Part Timer is announced, they'll reprint the first season that was previously under Siren's brand, but anything else? Or even any smaller anime like Knight & Magic? No dice. Has to be imported.
And there you have it. What once was a decently competitive scene for anime publishing in the land down under, now reduced to just Crunchyroll or import.
Like I said. A shit show.
At least importing ain't hard, and Discotek can give us the good stuff, even if I have to set my Blu-ray player's region every time.

[FULL LIST BELOW THE CUT]
So this is my current collection of anime (shows and movies) that spans from 1986-2006. I have my blogs for Outlaw Star/Angel Links and this one for YYH.
Obviously, I have plenty of other shows to potentially make GIFs for, but I can't decide which one to do next!
I haven't seen a lot of these, too so I'm excited to dip in.
LMK if you have an opinion or if there's another show you think is worth making nice GIFs for!

Shin SD Gundam Gaiden Knight Gundam Maryuu Zero no Kishiden: Chapter 5
Chapter 5: O Wind, Blow Forth
The chapter continues off on Zero's question, why someone who stole the Storm Sword's skills can use the Thunder Clan's skills. Vice explains, to Zero's surprise, that he is also from the Thunder Clan.
Zero questions this further.
Tumblr media
"Fu fu fu...I am not your father's enemy."
"Zero Gundam, my *son*."
"I AM your father!"
"Wh...What'd you say?!"
Tumblr media
Startled by this revelation and believing it's a lie, Zero attacks Vice. However, Vice's machine soldier emits a dark aura. He wishes to turn Zero to Zanscare's side, bringing the Thunder Sword with him.
Tumblr media
"Ah! My-my head…it hurts!" Vice's aura causes a headache to develop, stunning him. This is actually the darkness in Zero's heart beginning to grow. Vice comments that giving in will cause it to go away.
Meanwhile, the Silver Halberd destroys some enemies as it falls.
Tumblr media
Seemingly outnumbered, Knight Victory summons his Machine Soldier Gaoja. This is recognized as the Bujin's Hundred Beast King by the enemies. This is another legendary Machine Soldier on par with Dragoon.
And then they attack with the Gale Tornado.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The enemy's Gale Tornado has no effect, as it's a sacred skill from Victory's clan, the Storm Clan. A fake version, as he himself says. He takes the time to show them a true Gale Tornado.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With the enemies taken care of, Victory secures the Silver Halberd, noticing Zero's opponent is Vice.
Within his headache, Zero has an illusion and sees a mysterious silhouette.
Tumblr media
The silhouette identifies himself as Zero's father, saying to come with him and his headache will disappear.
Realizing that Dragoon is trapped in a dark barrier, Victory panics and tosses the Silver Halberd to Dragoon, saying to return to its master.
Tumblr media
The silhouette begins to take Zero towards a void of darkness, telling him to head forth.
Suddenly, a bolt of lighting breaks through, revealing the silhouette to be Vice. The Silver Halberd had broken through the illusion.
Tumblr media
"How…dare you…not only have you disgraced my father's name, but even his own shadow…I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU, VICE!!" Zero attacks him out of anger, dealing damage despite what Vice thought. However, Victory notices a grin. Vice was planning something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zero puts his all his strength into one more attack.
"DRAG BREAK!!"
This was what Vice was waiting for: an attack that held all the strength of his rage. Victory begins to panic again, saying this is a bad development.
Tumblr media
Vice attacks again, emitting a thunder-like aura from himself. Before he could get hit, Dragoon is grabbed by Gaoja and disappears.
Vice comments that they are likely going to "the Thunder Clan's sacred land" and laughs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Why'd you get in my way! Just one more and Vice…" "That's exactly what he wants!!" Victory explains that Vice's goal was not to destroy Dragoon, but to turn its pilot, Zero, to Zanscare's side by developing a seed of hate and anger towards him. The world's fate is at risk because of this, calling back to Vice's previous quote about how the world will be destroyed by Zero himself.
Tumblr media
In his current state, the Thunder Sword will also be corrupted by evil. To prevent this, Zero has to redo the Dragoon Stimuli. Dragoon vanishes and Zero lands in an unknown place. "You, who have lost the sacred heart. Your name is…Zero Gundam, correct?" "W-who are you?"
Tumblr media
End of chapter 5.

I’ve been promising this post for a while now. I did a voice actor version some time ago and it was one of my favourite lists to put together. I think you guys enjoyed it too.
As we all know, an actor’s performance can really drag down an anime. There’s something heartbreaking about a painfully wooden performance in the middle of a wonderful story that rips you right out of the fantasy. On the bright side, I’ve seen more than a few characters go from boring to endearing on the strength of an actor’s charisma. Voice actors don’t have as much to work with as conventional actors. They can’t rely on body movements or smouldering looks to get their message across. So it’s doubly impressive when they manage to convey subtle emotion and complex feelings though inflection and tone alone.
And for me, these ladies do just that.
Today let us celebrate the artistry that goes into bringing some of our favourite characters to life. In no real order we have!
5. Aoi Yuuki
I don’t care how petty it sounds, I’m just going to put this right here. This young woman is shorter than me!!! A musician and traditional actress, Aoi unique voice has made her quite successful in the field. Here are a few selected roles out of the tons she has had:
Hana – Ben-To
Tsuyu – My Hero Academia
Mina – Vampire Bund
The Energetic Ringo – Daily Lives of HighSchool Boys
Sosuke – Free!! (surprised? – I was)
Victorique – Gosick
Mihoshi – Gundam
Russia – Hetalia
Kino – Kino’s journey
Futaba – Persona 5
Iris – Pokemon
Mélie – Radiant
Shinra – Durarara!!
Sunako – Shiki
Borr – SSSS.Gridman
Tanya – Saga of Tanya the Evil
Oh yeah – she’s also Madoka in some magical girl show…
She’s set to play Touka and Boogiepop in the upcoming remake and I am psyched for this!
Not to mention roles in March Comes In Like a Lion, ACCA 13, Asobi Asobase, Welcome to the Ballroom, Gangsta, Gintama, Goblin Slayer, Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, Hyakka, Hyouka, Your Name, last exile, One Punch Man, Seraph of the End, Sword Art Online II, Tanaka-kun, Tokyo Ghoul, Snafu, Yuru Yuri, and I seriously skipped over most of them. This lady works!
The surprisingly raspy quality of her vocals, and the counterintuitive depth of her tone makes her suitable for a wide range of diverse characters. A small actress with a big voice! Irresistible.
4. Chiwa Saito
Miss Saito has been acting for some time which means she’s had the chance to amass a pretty impressive portfolio. One of my favourite random facts out there, is that she is part of a voice acting groups called “MORE PEACH SUMMER SNOW”. That’s the best name ever. I’m going to rname Buddy that. (His actional name if Sir Buddy Livingston Master Chief Brown). Sadly, she is taller than me.
Yona – Yona of the Dawn
Aika – Aria
Hitagi – Monogatari series
Sigyn – Break Blade
Yuki – Vampire Bund
Chloe – Fate/Kaelid series
Natsumi – Keroro
the fantastic Riko – Kuroko’s Basketball
Louise- Gudam 00
Anita – R.O.D. TV
Kotori – rewrite
Meru – Zetsoubu Sensei
Nadeshiko – Yuru Yuri
She’s also Homura in some magical girl show…I swear I didn’t know this before researching for this post. I never realized how much I liked the Madoka casting before!
Of course there’s like a billion more titles but I’m going to name these ones because, reasons: Amanchu, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Boccano, Berserk, Dog & Scissors, D-Frag, Daily Lives of HighSchool Boys, Gintama, Girls Bravo, Kino’s journey, Last Exile, Log Horizon, Lyrica Nanoha, Murder Princess (I just like this title) One Piece, Sward Art Online, I’m just going to stop now.
You can actually hear her sing in some roles and she truly has a beautiful singing voice. It has a rich timber and she obviously has a great ear for melody. If ever she chose to switch career paths to the musical instead, I’m sure she’d have a great future. We would miss her as an actress though so let’s not encourage that!
3. Megumi Hayashibara
A more classical voice actress and one of the best known in Japan, Megumi almost became a nurse instead. There’s a certain personality that goes along with choosing a career in nursing. Caring but also resilient. You can see that peek through a bit in Megumi’s character and acting choice. Then again, there are so many to pick from I could probably make an argument for any character type.
Pai and IV – 3×3 eyes
Ai – Detective Conan
Haruko – FLCL Progressive
Haruka – Love Hina
Todomatsu – Osomatsu-kun
Paprika and Chiba – Paprika
Musashi – Pokemon
Ranma – Ranma 1/2
Lime – Saber Marionette J
Anna – Shaman King
Lina – Slayers
Ai – Video Girl Ai
Genkai – Yuu Yuu Hakusho
Hello Kitty…this woman is Hello Kitty
The incomparable Faye Valentine – Cowboy Bebop
Probably best known as Rei Ayanami – Evangelion
She can also be heard in Blue Exorcist, Bakuretsu Hunters, Sailor Moon, Blue Seed, Chihayafuru 2, Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor, Macross Plus, Lupin III, Maison Ikkoku, One Piece, Project A-ko, Shadow Skill, the Doreamons, Tenchi Muyou, and obviously a million more shows.
This lady’s body of work speaks for itself. I have to say I was already pretty amazed that spunky, opinionated Faye, with her womanly register and quiet monotone Rei were played by the same person, add in Hell Kitty to the mix and my mind is a little broken…and then you have comedy queen Ranma. This is the type of career you look up to!
2. Romi Park
Did you know that Romi studied Korean in university. I just find that intriguing, obviously she’s always liked languages. Ok I’m beating about the bush so let me just say it, miss Park’s performance was one of the best parts of FMA: Brotherhood for me. I literally caught myself in the middle of scenes just going, OMG the acting is phenomenal. I’ve heard great things about the English language cast but you really are missing ouy if you didn’t catch this performance.
Tōshirō Hitsugaya –  Bleach
Teresa – Claymore
Akane – Danganronpa
Tanaka – Daily Lives of High School Boys
Igarashi – Deadman Wonderland
Kenichi – Cyber Coil
Ken – Digimon
Sena – Eyeshield 21
Natsume – Gakuen Alice
Walter – Hellsing Ultimate
Switzerland – Hetalia
Angelina – Black Butler
Taiga – Major
Falis – Murder Princess (love this title)
Temari – Naruto
My precious, precious Naoto – Persona 4
Jiro – Pokemon
Syrup – Precure
Alma – Radiant
Zoe Hange – Attack on Titan
Everyone’s favourite rocker Nana Osaki – Nana
And of course Edward Elric – Fullmetal Alchemist
And if that wasn’t enough, you can hear her in Air Master, Beelzebub, Blue Dragon , Clannad After story, Detective Conan, Devil May Cry, Garo, Granblue Fantasy, Hunter x Hunter, Kill la Kill, Lupin III, Gundam 00, One Piece (everyone is in this), RahXephon, Sengoku Basara, RDG, Samurai 7, Terra Formars (cause it’s terrible), Aquarion, White Album
Romi Parks has the most devastatingly emotional voice I know. She often plays calm, cool and collected genius type characters (a lot of boys as you can see) but when an emotional contrast is needed, she really knows how to deliver, making her characters feel so real and raw.  One of the greatest performers in my opinion, she tends to make me want to see a show just to hear what she can do with the character.
Honorable Mentions
Ami Koshimizu
C,mon, she Ryuko from Kill la Kill. Always loved that sexy alto voice! Apparently she was also both Hiro and Naomi in the recent Darling and the Franxx. I loved her as Ibuki in Danganronpa. She was Kallen in Code Geass, Holo in Spice and Wolf and Yuiko in Persona. Obviously I’m skipping over st of her work including some very big roles. I suggest you look her up! The only reason she isn’t on the list proper is that I simply haven’t seen that many of her shows even though a lot are very popular.
1. Megumi Ogata
OK fine so this is a subjective choice. Well they all are really, it’s my top 5 list. Fact is, I’ve been a fan of Megumi Ogata for a long long time and I’m just always going to be. She’s the first voice talent I ever learned about and I absolutely love her work. Sure, she might have voiced a few of my anime crushes but surely that did not influence my choice in any way…. She’s much taller than me.
Ayato – Angel Beats
Haruka (Sailor Uranus) – Sailor Moon*
Jun – Captain Tsubasa
Yukito and Yue – Cardcaptor Sakura*
Makoto – Danganronpa
Nagito – Danganronpa***
Shinji – Evangelion*
Izumi Rio – Searching for the Full Moon*
the terrifying Fairies – Humanity has Declined
Cranberry – Raising Project*
Ichigou Fujimoto – Magical girl Ore
Ken – Persona 3
Yukimura – Samurai Deeper Kyo*
Akagi – Slam Dunk
Valkyrie – UFO Princess Valkyrie
Yuugi – Yu Gi Oh!*
Karuma – Yuu Yuu Hakusho*
And just o drive the point home, here are a few more at random. If you want to full list, you’ll have to look it up. I just can’t type that much! Bleach, Detective Conan, et Backers, Great Teacher Onizuka, Kino’s Journey, Magic Knight Rayearth, Tamayura, Tokyo Mew Mew,
Megumi Ogata is a revered veteran in the field. Comparing Nagito to Makoto (purposefully similar characters with a lot of very similar lines) will reveal her mastery on inflection and subtle vocalisation to embody a character way beyond their dialogue. Anyone still under the illusion that voice acting is simply reading your lines, please see master Ogata’s work!
Good list isn’t it!?! I discover new voice talent all the time mind you. I’ll be watching a show and suddenly realize that the actor is doing fantastic work. And I’m always so happy when I discover a new favourite. So please, share yours with me!
that was a lot of pics to find….
Top Five Voice Actresses in My Harem I've been promising this post for a while now. I did a voice actor version some time ago…

Anime I’ve Watched
Okay, here’s this massive post!
My roomie/best friend, Amanda, has gotten me into watching new anime as it comes out every season. We’ve been doing this since college, either 8 or 9 years ago, and it’s accumulated in a crapton of shows that we’ve watched. Obviously I’ve liked some more than others, and I can’t remember every single show I’ve watched, and with so many to list, it’s hard to think of shows I’ve seen when people ask me.
So I’m going to use this as a way to track all the shows I’ve watched!
I’m going to list shows that I’ve seen more than just a few episodes of. There are a ton of shows I’ve started watching, but then quit. Those aren’t going to count here.
Also, I’m going to use the titles I’m used to, so there will likely be a lot of Japanese titles of shows that I’ve noticed are more popular with the English title. I honestly don’t know the English title of some of them. XD;; It’s just how I’ve watched them. I will add akas where there is more than one version of the title.
I’ve watched all of these in Japanese, unless I specify that I watched it in English. The first few shows I watched in my life were in English, and so I tend to only watch those in English even now, but now I’m a Japanese snob and refuse to watch dubs. XD

FictionalxLifexReality’s Wish List for the Kagome Xover Exchange @MizukixTsukiyomi
Here’s my wish list of animes/tv shows/movies/games and characters for the Kagome Xover Exchange! I’m open to any genres out there, although, I’m not too keen on anything that’s too dark or angsty.
I don’t mind receiving NFSW material, but if you ask me to do one, I can’t really say I can do it. I’ll do my best, but I don’t really know how to write one, let alone draw one, without messing up too horribly.
These are all the animes/mangas I’ve watched and read, movies and TV shows I’ve enjoyed watching and games my brothers and I, well mostly my brothers, have played over the years, that I think would be interesting for a xover with Kagome.

Shin SD Gundam Gaiden Knight Gundam Maryuu Zero no Kishiden: Extra Thread
Pretty much this is just like the Kikoushin Densetsu one I did. But there will be a bit extra this time.
Tumblr media
Let's start from the "beginning". Zero's father, Falco Gundam was one of the original members of the Knights of the Round Table. He had a sort of rivalry with King I. One day, he, Conan, and Javor were sent to the region of Granada to investigate strange happenings.
Tumblr media
Said strange happening was a random and intense storm that appeared in Granada. Fuhrer Zatarion from the Command Chronicles series also appeared, forcing Conan to remember that he's Command Gundam. Conan and Javor protect Zero while Falco engages Zatarion with Dragoon.
Tumblr media
In the end, Zatarion took massive damage, but Falco was out of strength. Conan/Commando goes after Zatarion, never to return. Falco gives Zero the Thunder Sword and tells him to escape from the storm with Javor. Around this time, the Illusion Emperor reveals himself and captures Falco.
Tumblr media
Turns out that the Illusion Emperor had attached himself to Javor beforehand. Weakened and unarmed, Falco had no chance and was easily overwhelmed. He was later turned into Vice Gundam and the remaining parts of Zatarion that had broken off during their battle were used to make his Machine Soldier.
Tumblr media
"You'll be living alone from now on, but this Thunder Sword will guide you..."
Ultimately, the young Zero was the only one left standing when the storm cleared.
"Where...do I go? What...do I do? *sob* FATHER!!!"
Tumblr media
This next part covers the GB game. Despite being directly given the sword, Zero cannot properly use it yet. This is because the Thunder Clan laws emphasize the power of oneself and has several candidates fight for the position of "Inheritor". In this case, there are three others.
Tumblr media
These three candidates are Knight Sandias, Knight Mezaldan, and Knight V-Square. Zero battles each candidate 1v1. The loser has whatever skills they've acquired to that point sealed.
To put it bluntly, Sandias and Mezaldan are... kinda assholes and V-Square is the only one of them who is actually a good person.
Zero beats Sandias and Mezaldan, but then he takes on V-Square…and loses.
Tumblr media
However, it turns out that the "Inheritor" is not the one who wins the battle, but the one who the Thunder Sword chooses. This is because the system apparently chooses the one whose genetic makeup closely matches the original clan's founder, Draguna Sieg. (I think?)
Tumblr media
As a result, Zero becomes the successor and V-Square is rejected.
However, V-Square has the most hilariously chill reaction to being rejected as a legendary successor and becomes the priest of the Thunder Clan.

Mecha Basis + Lore
Interestingly, Zero Gundam himself is currently the only SD Gundam protag to not be based on a Gundam, but is instead based on the Showkew from Victory Gundam. Knight Victory and V-Square instead are based on the protag unit of Victory (Victory and V2 accordingly).
Tumblr media
This segways into our next subject, the Illusion Emperor.
It's not mentioned in the manga, but his full name is Illusion Emperor Assault Buster. Yup, as in V2 Gundam Assault Buster. This is the only case in SD Gundam where an enemy MS is the hero and the hero's MS is the villain.
Tumblr media
Apparently, the reason for this is the crew was forbidden from making Victory's MSs SD until the latter half of the series. They used hidden bases, but didn't go all-out until later.
Star Wars and Fist of the North Star were also used as inspiration for the work. Which means, yes, Vice Gundam is a Darth Vader reference.
Tumblr media
Back to Assault Buster, his original identity was Knight V2, the heir to the Storm Sword. Unlike the Thunder Clan, the Storm Clan places emphasis on fighting together, which is why there are multiple Inheritors that exist at once. The current one has the title "Storm Commander".
Tumblr media
While he was the Storm Commander, Knight V2 was described as powerful and full of ambition. However, he one day suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Falco Gundam, which utterly shattered his heart.
This lead him to obsess over becoming more powerful…
Tumblr media
This eventually lead him into the mirror world, where he met the Zanscare Clan. In exchange for joining with the Zanscare Clan, Knight V2 was given immense power and became Illusion Emperor Assault Buster.
And became utterly horrifying in the process.
Tumblr media
Similarly to Kikoushin Densetsu, Knight Gundam Monogatari also uses non-Gundam bases for some of its mechs. For example, Knight Victory's machine soldier is based on Galient (from Panzer World Galient) and Beast King GoLion (from GoLion).
Tumblr media
Metanall is based on Azolba Zee from Panzer World Galient.
Epco 94 is based on Vega from Genma Wars.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While never scene in the manga, V-Square's machine soldier, Sky Paladin, is based on Wingal Zee from Panzer World Galient.

Cameo in Gundam Build Fighters Try
Most English-speakers probably recognize Zero Gundam from episode 12 of Gundam Build Fighters Try, "Fly to the Future" as a Gunpla used by Lady Kawaguchi.
There are actually a few small references to Knight Gundam Monogatari in this episode.
(Yes, I know this same episode also has a few SD Gundam Force references in its impact frames due to the series having its 10th Anniversary, but this is a Knight Gundam Monogatari Thread, not a SD Gundam Force Thread)
Tumblr media
To start off… When Lady Kawaguchi first shows off Zero in the episode, he is wearing a cloak. This is likely a reference to one of the Arc 1 Prologue cards for Knight Gundam Monogatari.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MARYUU AWAKEN!!
Did you happen to catch something? Like did you see something? Don't worry, we'll go into that.
Tumblr media
It's Mars Dragoon! There is an impact frame of Mars Dragoon!!
Tumblr media
While not exact wording, before finishing off Fumina's Winning Gundam, Lady Kawaguchi even references Zero Gundam's catchphrase, "Return to "zero"!" (“無”(ゼロ)に帰れ!, "zero" ni kaere!).
Here, she says "Zero ni kaerinasai!", which is a more feminine version of the phrase.
Tumblr media
After finishing off Winning Gundam, there is one more impact frame. This one has Zero's father, Falco Gundam, in his Holy Dragon Knight form. This is the form he fought Zatarion in, actually. You can see this scene in motion below.
