I know it's a loaded question, but where should I start when it comes to knitting? I'm used to crochet, so reading patterns comes more naturally. Still, I'd like to make more things to wear, and knitting feels more practical to me.
i would suggest starting with a shawl, it’s wearable but you also don’t have to worry about fit for your first project, which is nice.
you’ll learn shaping (shawls are usually triangular) with increasing/decreasing and if you choose a patterned shawl it will teach you different stitches and techniques.
youtube will be your best friend. youtube literally taught me how to knit.
if you are looking for easy to follow patterns i would suggest Andrea Mowry’s patterns.
i’ve heard that it is easier to learn to knit as a crocheter than the other way around so i wish you luck and i hope you love knitting ♥️♥️♥️

soft asks: 1. 4. 9. 17. 21. 25. 28. 30. 💛
what song makes you feel better?
Tougher than the Rest, always, forever ♥
4. what flower would you like to be given?
Oh, any, really! I love bouquets that look like they are picked from a meadow, but I also love roses, peonies etc
9. what calms you down?
Being outside, listening to the wind in the trees or the birds, being away from people, cars and city dirt.
17. fairy lights or LED lights?
Fairy lights, I really don't like LED lights and never understood their appeal.
21. if you could tell your past self one thing, what would it be?
I'm sorry.
25. what’s the best personal gift someone could give you (playlist, homemade card, etc.)
Oh I'm really not picky when it comes to homemade gifts. Just the thought someone put work into something for me makes me tear up hahaha, but I think I would adore a small piece of art to hang on my wall the most (because it's so easily cherished)
28. hugs or hand-holding?
Both have their moments. I love hugging though and wish I'd get to hug a little more tbh
30. what reminds you of home (doesn’t have to mean house… just things that remind you of the feeling of home)?
Of my childhood home, it would definitely be hearing and seeing birds outside. And specific albums my mum used to play lots haha, for example Brand New Day by Sting. The feeling of home is very tied to sharing a meal.
Thank you so much, these were lovely xxxx

Hiya! You may have already gotten this kinda ask before and I just missed it, but do you have any tips on where to start with knitting?? It looks like a lot of fun, but I get a little overwhelmed with all the information online and have no one, personally, to ask 😅
Love your blog by the way; it’s very comforting to visit, like snuggling into a fuzzy blanket on a cold day :)
omg no one has sent me an ask like this! I LOVE THIS SO SO MUCH!! THANK YOU!
okay, where to start… well, in terms of easy first time things to knit, a scarf is always amazing practice. made a lot of those as a kid when i first learned it. also just a lot of little squares that i used for blankets for my toys and stuff…
i don’t know how much you already know, but there are two common ways to knit and depending on where in the world you live, one is more normal then the other. they are called continental and english. now, i grew up with continental, that one is a lot simpler and faster once you get the hang of it.
there are tons and tons of videos on youtube that shows you how to do everything. whenever i need to look up something, i usually refer to a video in my native language since that’s the language i learned the skill in and the language my patterns are in and stuff.
it truly isn’t as complicated as it might seem, you will get the hang of it in no time. just get some yarn, some needles, listen to something fun like an audiobook (since it will probably be a bit before you can do it without looking. tbh one of my coolest party tricks, knitting with my eyes closed. i know, makes the grandmothers go wild) and learn how to cast on, how to do a basic knit stitch, and lastly how to bind off. just try, it’s a new skill, don’t be scared to suck, sure the first thing won’t be perfect, will probably have a few dropped stitches, but you will learn and the next one will be better.
and please don’t be afraid to poke me again, ask me anything under the sun. good luck and i can’t wait for you to learn ♡

classic rock asks: 2. 3. 9. 24. 41. 45. 🤠✌️
Hey Jo! Thank you! 🎶
2: Dancing in the street with Mick Jagger or David Bowie?
Are you really making me choose? Bowie, we'd have more fun (have I just said this?)
Tumblr media
3: Egg houses with the Doors or go on a panty raid with Pink Floyd?
Panty Raid! 🤓 I would never waste eggs.
9: Have a sleepover with Lou Reed and Iggy Pop or David Bowie and Marc Bolan?
Why can't I have Lou and Bowie? Ok I have a̶s̶t̶r̶o̶l̶o̶g̶i̶c̶a̶l̶ scientific proof that it would go well with Bowie, with or without Marc:
Tumblr media
24: Air-drum solo to a song by Phil Collins or air-bass solo to a song by the Who?
The Who's air-bass solo. Keith Moon is very offended by this question.
41: Go shopping with Mick Jagger or Roger Waters?
Tumblr media
And again kids, remember “Just because it looks good on Mick Jagger doesn’t mean it’s going to look good on you.” (now guess who has said this). I've dressed like Mick for years and it didn't always look flattering.
45: Try on Freddie Mercury or David Bowie’s outfits?
I wouldn't fit in anybody's original outfits. It's funny that I've never dressed up as Bowie, and trust, dressing up like rock stars is my passion. So here's your answer:

top 5 movies. top 5 artists 👀✌️
ohh these are so hard, let's start with artists because I think this is the easier one:
The Beatles
Bruce Springsteen
Taylor Swift
Bob Dylan
Sam Fender/The Arctic Monkeys because I can't choose and actually i'm already doubting the list because I left out too many great artists
now for top movies I'll just go with whatever I choose first because i'm terrible at choosing favourite movies but also these might not be "objectively" great but they are my comfort movies and ones I have rewatched thousand of times:
Whiplash
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Penguins of madagascar (idk if there are more than one but I mean the 2014 with the octopus villain)
Rebel without a cause
special mentions to Paddington (1&2), Steve Jobs (the good one, I think I dont need to clarify which one that is), Set It Up, The Lego Movie and Ford v Ferrari that fought bravely for the #5 spot

⛔❌🧠 for fanfic writer ask :)
Hewwo!! Thank you for the ask <333
⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped?
Tbh not really! I've made a few outlines for fics before that I have never got around to writing, and a few little snippets of things I wrote for vibes but never did anything more with, but as far as like an Actual Project, nope! And I hope to keep it that way if I can.
❌ What's a trope you will never write?
Ah, that's a tough one! I tend to approach my writing with a 'never say never' mindset so I struggle to have and concrete 'no's. There are definitely some tropes that I would never write straight. For example: A soulmate au. Soulmate aus are a hard sell for me because I already struggle buying into a lot of romance tropes and soulmates on top of it just feels like too much of a shortcut. The characters are in love because The Universe Decreed it So. But a subversion of a soulmate au, where the rules of the soulmate universe are still in play but the characters aren't each others true soulmates and choose to be together anyway, or it's not a romantic relationship they're meant to be in... now that is something I could hypothetically see myself playing around with.
As far as tropes where I'm like "I'm not touching that" probably like... A Coffee shop AU? Simply because I wouldn't know what to do with it lol. I don't read coffee shop aus and while I can appreciate the indulgence of getting into a characters head and really lingering on setting, mood, and details, (which I think is the appeal of coffee shop aus? tbh i don't really know if I've ever read on before lmao) it's not something I would necessarily enjoy writing. Both in writing and reading I like my characters Doing Things.
🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them
Oooh this is fun I've been thinking about Rufus a lot (bc he's an important character in my current WIP) so I think I'll share a hc for him:
He knits as a hobby :]

french ask: chatoyer, citronnade, étoilé, plaisir.
chatoyer (to shimmer): what is sure to make you cry? Stories about parent/child relationships. Especially dealing with just the every day struggle of growing together and apart and parents aging ugh.
citronnade (lemonade): what’s your favorite beverage? I love a good lemonade, especially the kinds that are basically non-alcoholic cocktails with fresh fruit and different flavours etc. But I also love black or spiced tea, and just fruit juice in general.
étoile (star): believe in astrology? Well, believe. I enjoy it and like to go "oh i KNEW it!" when i find out someone's placements and it does resonate a lot with me usually, but I don't think it's like... rules or anything.
plaisir (pleasure): your favorite dessert? Couldn't choose, I just love dessert and sweets in general. Probably cakes of all kinds but.... just give sth sweet and I'll be happy. Oh, maybe actually: fruit! Like when I worked in Italy we often had different types of melons and oranges etc as dessert and that's hard to beat.
Thank you so much! xx

Quick reminder on why it is never a good idea to piss off a fiber artist:
Go ahead. Insult a crocheter. Say their craft is somehow inferior. Remember a crocheter can use their hooks go Ancient Egyptian on you and rip your brains out through your nostrils, except we won't bother to mummify you first.
Knitters will not stab you with their needles because some of them are rather fragile, but they will knit you a fetching sweater...a CURSED sweater...THAT cursed sweater...and purposely make it about 5 sizes too small and strangle you with it. It will hurt, but you'll look amazing.
Embroiderers and any sort of seamsters use a sharp object to stab something thousands of times to make it pretty. Do you want to be made pretty? Do you? We WOULD REALLY LIKE TO MAKE YOU PRETTY...
Weavers can make your death shroud from scratch. We're talking sheep to fabric. All they'll need to do is make sure you are in the proper state to be buried. Know that it takes only a moment to make that happen.
Spinners make what is varying thicknesses of rope. Do you know what can be done with rope? Do you really want an answer to that question?
Here is the True Golden Rule: Thou shalt not demean those who work the fiber and expect mercy, for we shall have none. Your destruction will be made of ten thousand knots and each a curse upon your name and your house.
And, we heed the call to protect one of our own with the ferocity of angry bees.
Just be nice to your local fiber artist.
Chances are you'll get something warm out of it.

hi 👋 it’s your friendly neighborhood interested knitter! just stopping by to say I’m really enjoying myself! I’ve been playing some comfort tv shows for background noise since I don’t have to pay attention to it and can focus on the knitting 😆 I’ve been struggling with knitting too tightly and then overcompensating by knitting the next row too loose 😅 but with practice I’ll get better 😊 hope you’re doing well 💗
IIIIHHH!!! HI BABY!!!! comfort shows + knitting is truly top tier. honestly a huge part of my days…
idk if you are knitting continental or english (continental you hold the yarn in your left hand, english you hold it in your right), but maybe look up different ways to hold the yarn! i usually have it draped over my left pinky finger, under my ring and middle, and then over my pointer (if that makes sense). sometimes i do something different if i need it to be tighter or something. google a bit! maybe it’ll help!

tmg song asks! :)
Spent Gladiator 2, Dance Music, and Done Bleeding
Spent Gladiator 2 – I haven't sat down with this song until now, so I'm happy your ask is helping me expand my discography knowledge. I really like the determined, gritty optimism of this song. The juxtaposition of both these images in this verse feels compelling to me
Like the mice in the forgotten grain Way up on the top shelf Like someone who's found a small town to escape to Keeps one eye on his abandoned, former self
Dance Music – using music as a comfort/escape -- big mood, JD, big mood
Lean in close to my little record player on the floor So this is what the volume knob's for
Done Bleeding – I haven't listened to this one extensively either. (In general i gravitate less towards In League with Dragons compared to JD's other albums. And i tend to just make big playlists of songs i like, so it means my overall album knowledge can be spotty. Been trying to spend time with individual albums per friend recommendations.) After listening it definitely fits in the genre of "songs about sitting alone in a room waiting for something to happen" -- and then eventually finding the exit. This verse struck me in particular
Take a picture or two Just to remember the view Leave a mark on the door As an empty warning sign from one who's gone before But isn't here anymore
Something something every place i've ever lived is full of ghosts / moving beyond selves or places you outgrow / imperfection of memory.
send me a Mountain Goats song title and I'll tell you my favorite line(s)
