WHO IS A CATS LOVER VS DOGS LOVER SCALE

CATS LOVERS:

° Kuon: Cats are elegant, cute, clean, can purr and don’t drool. Dogs bark, are intimidating, probably roll in the mud, smell bad and drool on her pretty dresses. So yeah, cat supremacy for her. She is super scared of huge dogs. Probably own several cats.

° Yukio Tanabe: Due to severals bad experiences with dogs, he prefers cats. They are more calm. Plus, you sort of gain their affection rather than being loyal by default. He is very suspicious of smaller dogs, as they can quickly become agitated and susceptible to bite (after his experiences).

° Sniper Mask: Cats are in the perfect balance between clingy and too independent. They have a presence and may be hilariously silly and yet still be gracious. Has a soft spot for black cats. Doesn’t dislike dogs but find them too needy.

° Rikuya Yoshida: He really likes both, but tends to prefers cats. They are just so cute! Especially kitten! Their energies are contagious. Definitely plays with stray cats on his way home after school and wants to pet all the dogs he meets.

TRUE NEUTRAL

° Yuri: The true reconciler. Both are good boy/girl. Both are cute. Animals probably love her back. 

° Uzuki, White Feather, Kohei Yamanami: Don’t have a strong opinion on them. Sure, they are cute but like any other animals, aren’t they?

DOGS LOVERS

° Kazuma Aohara: Doesn’t hate cats but is allergic to them. He used to have a dog as kid and keeps good memories of them. He doesn’t own one anymore because his work schedule is too heavy.

° Mayuko: Dogs are reliable and affectionate: it’s all she can ask for. Cats seem to avoid her. Once, a cat randomly hisses at her and she furiously hisses back, making the cat run away. Deep down, she was proud of herself.

° Rika: He’s fascinated by the closeness between dogs and humans within History. He would like to own one when he’ll be independent, mostly for sportive purposes. Cats... are really incomprehensible from his point of view. They hold too much chaotic power.

° Great Angel: Cats are often depicted with villains and associated with witchcraft! Thus, they must be evil! While dogs are good, as they work with policers! So the dogs are the greater good!!! Hurray to the puppy’s kind!!!

° Ein, Shinji Okihara: Prefer rabbits over cats and dogs.

kohei being sent into panic attacks at the sight of screwdrivers and power drills and rika freezing up and starting trembling when he has to hold a hammer, all their tools are under lock and key. only juo ever uses them, and only after he makes sure he’s alone in the room. if he needs help no he doesn’t but if really he needs more hands then he finds someone to coerce into helping him

juo, who keeps pretending none of it all has left any lasting impact on him, wakes up in cold sweat after nightmares in which he falls. he has that one falling sensation every time he lies down and closes his eyes. he has to take a bit to calm down his breathing, every time. one day he slips and falls in the stairs. he’s not hurt physically but he’s an empty shell for the rest of the day. rika and kohei have to keep slight contact with him at all time when it happens

Rika: I see. Okay, then I’ll use honorific language just in case.

Kana translation

Rika: Hey! Swimmer... Do you remember your age?

Swimmer: *shakes head no*

Rika: Too bad... In that case, don’t take offense if I use the informal you.

Chapter 059

Rika: You.. How old are you?

Yamanami: I-I’m 19. My name is Kohei Yamanami.

Rika: ... Then you’re one year older than me. I’d like to use polite language. (cue note about keigo)

Kana translation

Rika: Hi.. How old are you*?

Yamanami: I’m 19! My name is Kohei Yamanami...

Rika: ... You’re* one year older than me... We won’t have any trouble understanding each other...

Conclusion: I am extremely mad at Kana for its portrayal of Rika.

I understand that it’s not common in France for teenagers to use the formal you toward other (even older) teenagers, but I feel that’s still erasing a lot of Rika’s personality, especially paired with the Swimmer bit in ch105. Not knowing one’s age is absolutely warranting using the formal you. And where they didn’t even mention the formal/informal language possibility in ch059, they openly said it in ch105 - but backwards...
