This is old news but once again I am kind of pissed at the way Keefe's betrayal was handled in Stellarlune. Like Sophie was so angry at him and ready to not forgive him, and it was finally setting it up to show Keefe getting some of the come-uppance he deserved for consistently not considering Sophie's feelings. And then around comes stellarlune and... nothing. Suddenly Sophie does a 180 and seems desperate to hunt him down and save him despite seeming like she would (at least temporarily) leave him to his own devices. And everyone else's reacting to this is also super lackluster which I guess makes sense since they all know he's just Like That. But either that was just such an unsatisfying shift and while I know it was likely to get him back faster so they could move on with the plot, I will never be not disappointed.

hello you are the god of canon and i've been confused about this for a long time so i am turning to you as my last desperate hope to understand.

remember in everblaze, there was a leak? i'm not talking about the black swan leak, i'm talking about the leak that was leaking classified council information, like fintan's healing. sophie thought it was bronte at one point? well i'm pretty sure we never found out who that actually was.

tiergan says he suspects that the thirty missing dwarves are behind it right before the healing (somewhere in chapter 34 iirc) and sophie agrees and says yeah that makes sense, but it's never actually confirmed. then the story moves on as if that has been solved, so either i'm stupid and i'm not picking up what shannon's putting down (that the thirty missing dwarves are responsible for the leak) or i'm missing something? are we supposed to assume that tiergan was correct and that the thirty missing dwarves are the leak? if so, i'm pretty sure that's never actually explicitly stated, it was just a theory.

i'm pretty sure we're also supposed to assume that the thirty missing dwarves are the dwarves that fled to the neverseen (even though that's also never explicitly stated iirc), so that checks out. but then, the question becomes, why the heck do the neverseen care if random classified secrets are released to the general public? it doesn't make any sense. i get the neverseen wanting to know those secrets for themselves, but what interest would they have in the public knowing those secrets? if the thirty missing dwarves are the dwarves that fled to the neverseen and they're responsible for the leak, then it's like. okay, but why?

like when sophie thought the leak was bronte, she was able to sort of reason it out like "okay, maybe he's leaking these secrets to get the public riled up against the healing because he doesn't support it" or something like that. so it gives bronte a proper motivation (it wasn't him, but using this as an example).

so i guess the questions are:

are the thirty missing dwarves confirmed to be neverseen dwarves?

are the thirty missing dwarves confirmed to be the source of the council leak?

if they are the source of the leak, why would the neverseen care if the general public knew about fintan's healing and those other secrets?

Hi! You're totally fine and not at all stupid--it's quite nebulous.

Off the top of my head, I don't think we've revisited the council leak's source since that conversation. So unless and until Shannon circles back around to reveal Noland or Clarette or someone was up to nefarious deeds, I do think we're supposed to believe the dwarves are the source.

The dwarves also are working with the Neverseen, as seen in the battle of Mount Everest (p. 560) and much later in Legacy. I can't recall a line where the number thirty specifically comes up again? But as it doesn't seem they knew there were any dwarves with the Neverseen (p. 275, 570--not definitive, but it seems the general intention) prior, I don't think it matters we don't get the specific number

As for why they leaked secrets, I think it perhaps has something to do with Mr. Forkle's later theory about destabilizing everyone and swooping in to take over. The healing was highly divisive, and it shook people's trust even before it went wrong. Cluing everyone in to how much the council obscures diminishes their power and influence--makes the Lost Cities that much easier to conquer.

But again, a lot of this is off my memory--and I might be missing some details. If someone's got a stronger understanding of this conflict specifically, please do share!

kotlc has so many flaws but i love the world and the characters so i simply turn my brain off when i read the series i just vibe with whatever happens and if i think about what we've lost i'll go insane

in honor of one year of stellarlune, is there anything you really like about it? there's a lot of things to hate but for you is there still some good in it?

I don't think it's any secret that I have a very deep hatred for stellarlune lmao but one scene did immediately come to mind when I saw your ask.

in the end scene, fitz mentally checking in with keefe (before he does with sophie) and stealing her dagger to give to keefe? trusting him with that?

and the fact that keefe goes through with trying to stab gisela? ough.

this was big for both of their characters I think. fitz has been here. he's held his brothers life in his hands and hes tried to end it before. he knows the anger that keefe is feeling and agh.

for him to be there? for him to acknowledge those feelings and for him to help keefe? to, despite all the tension in the last few books, give him the dagger.

the keefe/gisela and fitz/alvar parallels were strong here and I think this genuinley may be one of my favorite scenes in the book.

what if the bottle of youth are the reason elves don’t wrinkle or grey?

they’re obviously based of the fountain of youth, it would explain where the legend came from, especially if it has the same effect on humans. but because elves put such importance on beauty and perfection they use the bottles of youth to look young permanently other than the pointing of their ears.

now i think it would take Elves much much longer to age physically, but it would be similar to the way we age. say elves hit ancient status at like 4000-4500 (that’s my personal estimate for it) they really wouldn’t start visibly aging until 1000, or so. the there’s also some that would grey younger or not get wrinkled until they are older. but no matter the age they started to grey wrinkle, it would progress incredibly slowly.

KOTLC Favorite ice creams flavors!

Sophie-Rocky Road, I feel like Sophie was a sucker for chocolate and Rocky Road gives me Mallowmelt vibes, with it having marshmellows.

Fitz-Mint Chip, I think he'd like the fresh minty flavor and would hunt for the choclate chips like pirates digging for treasure with Biana (and Alvar before shit went down)

Keefe- Cookie's n Cream, seems like a guy with a huge sweet tooth

Biana- Green Tea, I feel like she'd want a nice calm earthy flavor to soothe her after all the shit going on

Tam- Chocolate, I feel like he'd have a basic ice cream flavor since it doesn't really matter that much too him.

Linh - Salted Caramel, especially sea salt, This girl also has a massive sweet tooth and indulges on any sweet food since that was her and Tam had least access to in Exilllium.

Marella- Mango Sorbet/Ice cream I feel like she'd like Sorbet more honestly but for the sake of the title, Ice cream. Its fruity, tropical and sunny, all stuff Marella would seem into (I was tempted to put Vanilla Ice cream for her but decided thats too basic for her.)

Maruca- Butter Pecan, she seems like a girl who'd like nuts (Pun unintended) Especially Pecans. I also imagine her family served something like Pecan Pie at holidays and had a secret family recipe of theirs.

Mr. Forkle...-dirt

Umber- Toffee, likes sweet syrupy tastes like Toffee,. No need for spoons since she has shadowflux! She also likes to let it melt a little so she can drink it like a soup.

Trix- Pumpkin pie, Im getting lazy atp so yeah. (wrote this after the rest of them but wanted umber and trix to be next to eachother)

Fintan- Vanilla, if his fossilized ass is even aware of icecream, this dude is every bit basic and if he does know about icecream, he probably has nostalgia of collecting snow and shredding fruits on it from the 3rd century

Gisela- Coffee, she wouldn't have much of a sweet tooth in my mind honestly

Alvar- Pistachio, preferably with chocolate chips. Much like Fitz...Erm he judges people and shops on how good their Pistachio Ice cream is since he a connoisseur on this flavor. Will down a whole tub of this actually.

Ruy- Strawberry, he's not much into icecream so anything will do but he does a small preference for Strawberry since its nice and refreshing adn he likes fruits with a tang.

KOTLC Miraculous AU (pt. 2)

Did not expect the people saying they would actually read it;

So fun fact, it's been a hot minute since I last reread KOTLC (well aware the graphic novel doesn't Really Really count). So now I'm making a list of Fitz character flaws that I want to use my narrative to punish him for, so that he can grow, in my AU.

Because Fitz isn't just the angry golden boy. He's someone who doesn't realize all this privilege is a privilege. The Vackers may fight for 'good' but they still largely benefited from the KOTLC system. Playing back into why Plagg is a good match for him-in canon, both Adrien and Keefe don't care about the status that being Mari/Sophie's boyfriend comes with. But Fitz does.

So Detruire is flirty towards Ladybug. Because who better to impress and benefit his status than the superheroine of Paris?

Then the attraction stops being superfluous. He gets a vibe check-from LB or Plagg, maybe both. Plagg has had too many holders to count, and too many who were angry but angry because of their low status in life because of where they were born/born into poverty. Fitz is angry because of his pressure and lack of freedom (in this AU)-which while is equally valid, means that Plagg will be able to vibe check Fitz's privilege. Will be able to question him, call him out, get him to realize the superfluous reasons why he chases Ladybug.

So that he falls in love with Sophie. The clumsy, funny, slightly awkward classmate who smiles just a little crooked and tugs on her eyelashes and isn't all-powerful, isn't all-seeing. Just Sophie.

(Not the perfect Ladybug. Not the perfect Moonlark.)

wait but then see Sophie realize Fitz isn't perfect. She screams in Detruire's face that Ladybug isn't perfect, she's not perfect, it's not possible for anyone to be perfect and chasing such an ideal is stupid. See her realize her own hypocrisy. Let Ladybug watch as Detruire changes, stops flirting and gets more genuinely joking instead. Treating her as a real person and not something to attain. LB watches Detruire change, and she starts to fall for someone who has proven they can. Because Detruire listened, and Detruire is trying, and fuck SHE JUST GOT HIM TO QUIT FLIRTING WITH HER-

Rayni as Lila; I saw this in a reblog, AM ADOPTING!! (thanks @ohmygoly) I dislike extra salt and I like the tentative beginnings of Rayni's canon redemption, so let's see if I'll get there before SM either hits or misses in canon!

(also @tiana4evahh I have Plans with Dex and the Lila thing hahahaha hes one of my favs)

Biana as Kagami; BEFORE I GET SHOT. Remember that canonly badass Della will have to be Emilie Agreste. So while Fitz is homeschooled (and I already have a plot reason worked out why Della agrees) Biana Vacker is sent to multiple boarding schools from a young age. When she returns, she doesn't like Sophie trying to make moves ON !HER BROTHER!! So for a while, Sophie sees her as an enemy. (also that means no Kagami/Adrien will exist in this AT ALL JUST TO CLARIFY UTTERLY)

Biana eventually befriending Sophie despite disliking her at first. Biana seeing her brother's indecision and making HER MOVE. Short Sophie/Biana while Soph tries to get over her current thing for Detruire. Biana TELLING HER OWN BROTHER NOT TO HESITATE IM TAKING LUKANETTE AND MAKING IT KAGAMINETTE I DO WHAT I WANT

Btw yk how in canon Mari and Adrien don't question their powers? Sophie and Fitz are too nosy not to HAHA AND THEY START HUNTING DOWN THIS AU'S MASTER FU ALONG WITH HAWKY

Also side note that's kinda irrelevant; When Tam and Linh eventually come in when I finally figure out how to include them, assume they are either already adopted by Tiergan (this will be indicated by their last names being Alenefar and them being proudly introduced as such) or have yet to be adopted by Tiergan and thus the plotline will come later (not introducing themselves with last names)

(@tiana4evahh okay fine I won't scrap this, but I will likely make changes if I ever write in full ao3 fanfic form and not just bullet-pointed)

And finally! While I am taking suggestions for this AU, I'm not going to do stuff because one character in KOTLC matches one in MLB perfectly. That'd be boring. I put characters in slightly unexpected roles because I think the angle would be fun to explore and wouldn't be the same role, same character, same lines. This is adapting MLB's story and adapting KOTLC's characters. I'm not looking to make perfect comparisons and copies (hence my reasoning why Keefe is not the Chat Noir/love interest in pt 1) I'm trying to make a new story where everything is not a repeat of just one of the stories it's adapted from. Not just a copy of MLB but with different names. So please do not expect as such.

Go ahead and rag on me for repeating this too much, but I've always preferred story value and not surface comparisons, which is why I am trying to make this completely clear. I'm not going to make one KOTLC character be the exact same role they had in KOTLC. This is why I am exploring the temporary Sophie/Biana. If you tell me the roles don't perfectly match, then okay! Go create your own AU! (this is not sarcastic) I just don't want getting comments on the whole [but it's not the same thing] because it's not MEANT to be an exact match, and again, sorry for being repetitive. I may include this on all posts of this AU until I finally start writing and fire spoilers.

but at the same time keefe is so august coded? like “salt air, and the rust on your door” is literally him. and “wanting was enough, for me it was enough” “meet me behind the mall/meet me behind them all” but that was before he got the girl

but also he gives me james vibes too?? like the song betty is basically him begging sophie to take him back, minus the cheating part. not to mention sophie elizabeth foster. elizabeth=betty “i’m only 17, i don’t know anything but i know i miss you” “the worst thing that I ever did was what I did to you”

cardigan is obviously sophie pov about keefe. “i knew you’d come back to me” “i knew you’d miss me once the thrill expired” “i knew you’d haunt all of my what ifs” “i knew you leaving like a father, running like water”

august could also be fitz for sure: “cause you were never mine, never mine” “cancelled my plans just in case you’d call” “i remember thinking I had you”

while sophie is james technically “chase 2 girls(guys) lose the one. (before sokeefe endgame) “will you kiss me, will it be just like i dreamed it?”

in conclusion. in terms of the love triangle, yes, sophie is james, keefe is betty, and fitz is augustine.

we always knew it would be keefe. we knew after sophie had this short thing with fitz she’d go back to keefe. basically betty and james.

and fitz is augustine, he really thought sophie wanted him, but she was never his to lose

what are your favorite kotlc ships and characters? and what do you like abt them?

Keefitz is the epitome of childhood best friends to lovers. I usually hate this trope, since I could never see it with my childhood best friend, but it drew me in. So much angst. So much history. You know how some guys have guy friends they practice making out with? Well they were that for each other and they liked it. But they didn’t say anything, which is why there’s so much damn pining.

Fedex is peak enemies to lovers- however one-sided. The scene in Neverseen is very close to my heart. (You know the one) They also have the added unfortunate first impression to shake things up.

Sokeefe has something so pure about it. I don’t know how to explain it, but they’re middle c. They always come back to each other, even if they don’t know they’re doing it. They’re comfortable, reliable, with equal possibility for both dark and light. My favorite canon ship.

Kam brings the salt. They clash, and when they do, sparks fly. It’s not quite enemies to lovers, but rivals. Hesitant friends, even. They have an understanding they can’t have with anyone else. Mostly because of their similar experiences, and the ways they deal with them. They have the best banter.

Sophiana perseveres. They’ve been through a lot. Emotions have run high, even with only their friendship. Think the wenclair divorce scene for when Sophie finds out (from Stina) that Biana befriended her because Alden told her to. Think Sophie’s paragraph-long descriptions of how stunningly beautiful Biana is. I love them.

My favorite characters are Stina, Biana, and Keefe.

I relate to them a lot. Biana’s confidence, how she wears her makeup not just as armor, but because she likes it. Stina’s drive and low tolerance for bs. Keefe’s gifted kid burnout and weakness for brown eyes.

I did talk about them a little here, but my general thoughts are it seems like a perfectly fine ship; no strong opinions good or bad

I do think it's one that's more difficult to sell/work with, given the lack of concrete interaction/similarities between Fitz and Marella. Like titz. it's harder to create a dynamic that isn't cookie cutter fluff when you're starting with so little

that is, of course, we're presuming a canon basis. and if we are, I do worry a little about Marella's gossiping. she's consistently bringing up other people's lives and relationships in ways they aren't comfortable with, like the poking at sophitz in stellarlune. i don't think that would endear Marella to Fitz, so i think we'd need extenuating circumstances or a bit of time in canon before they formed any sort of bond

For me lavacake is like. yeah sure. go wild. i'll need a bit more and convincing to throw my lot in, but its harmless and i'm glad people are having fun. you know?

Red rained from Keefe's wound, and Sophie had to fight back a gag. She kept herself useful by tearing Keefe's cape into strips, ready to use for bandages.
