Since Korn came by to visit Porsche's family, did he ever take his sons with him? Have Kinn and Porsche met before when they were kids? Has Tankhun been at Porsche's house? Have any of them? Maybe Namphueng was on good terms with Korn and Gun's wives, did she ever come to visit them at the manors? See their children? Has Vegas played with Porsche? Has Porsche held Kim? Did Porsche's parents help raise the other kids? Did these families even intertwine at all or were they kept strictly separated? How much did these families see each other I need to know

I think we need to write more about how restricted Porsche must feel by suddenly having to answer to someone else. Sure, he’s been answering to the loan sharks for years, and his uncle has been sort-of an authority to take into account on his good days. But for all he felt trapped by circumstance, Porsche still had the freedom of choice, of autonomy. 

But to suddenly have to fit the bill of a bodyguard to a mafia family. To be stripped of his schedule, his clothing choices, his food choices. To walk the halls of some unknown place on eggshells. To not know exactly what your new bosses want or need of you, only knowing that suddenly you’re somehow on the other side - treating downtrodden people like yourself and your younger brother like money-grabbers and destitute scum -  and not knowing the rules of the game from this side of things. 

It feels suffocating. 

It feels like such a regulated world, and Porsche doesn’t know the rules. 

He must be on alert all of the time, even as he sleeps, because he sleeps behind a door that doesn’t lock. It’s a door his new boss can storm through at any time, and he sleeps within inches of a man that seems kind and unassuming enough, but yet this man is the head bodyguard for the oldest heir of the family he is now indebted to. 

Indebted. It isn’t an escape, or a boon, to be employed here - I wonder how long Porsche spends convinced this is just another trap. He doesn’t know the rules, so he breaks them. He leans into it. The troublemaker, the truant - it was the first suit he ever tried on. It kept Chay safe and fed before. But now? Now he’s not so sure it will. He scrabbles for connection. 

Vegas is an older brother. He must feel that same fear for Macau in this game. Kinn is an older brother. But he doesn’t have the same relationship Porsche and Chay do. He can’t possibly understand. And yet?

So Porsche keeps spiralling. Keeps trying to find a foothold. He’s not used to this at all. He doesn’t know what to do or how to find the space to even breathe freely. He spends so much time puffing on cigarettes that he’s not even sure fresh air exists anymore.

And I think we should be writing more of that.

This plot point still bothers me, so here’s my attempt at fixing it

Kinn: You’re asking me to send you to die?

Pete: I must go because I trust Porsche.

Kinn: If something goes wrong, the Main Family can’t come after you. Not without starting a war with the Minor Family. If you get caught, you’ll be on your own. Do you understand that?

Pete: If I’m not back by morning... forget about me.

*later, the scene after everything with Tawan and Vegas goes down, Kinn is smoking on the balcony when Porsche approaches him but make it happen during sunrise*

Porsche: What’s with you?

Kinn, staring into the distance with a look of resignation: Just... forgetting something.

ALL THEY HAD TO DO was make it clear that the Main family wouldn’t be able to get involved if Pete got caught (because mafia politics or whatever) and that when Pete doesn’t return, he is assumed to be dead.

It would have reinforced Kinn’s characterization of actually caring about the people who work for him, saved Kinn from looking like a total moron who just forgot his own undercover agent, and given Pete some autonomy in his own fate. Pete would get permission to act on his own so that the main family could maintain plausible deniability should he fail.

AND it still would’ve been a tongue-and-cheek reference to what happens in the novel with a heartbreaking twist! Kinn wouldn’t forget about Pete, he would assume Pete was dead and —as Pete asked him to— keep moving forward without him.

I can't remember if this is a headcanon (I've read too many fics lmao) but I think I remember reading that Porsche's mom named Kim (Kimhant = Summer in thai) and Kinn and Porsche met as toddlers/young children but they obviously don't remember any of this since they were too little (in the TV series it seems that there's a moderate age gap between Kinn's and Porsche's ages, but in the books they're about 1-3 years apart so it feels more plausible).

I think all of them, in some way, grew up around each other but it's just that as they grew older, the rift became greater and the animosity became more personal (which would make sense since Gun and Korn would get in all of their heads).

Yes!! I had a reply on the post that also said that Kinn, Tankhun and Porsche used to play as kids and that Namphueng named Kim, so I think you remember this correctly!! (The reading too many fics to remember what is canon is painfully relatable😔)

You're right about the ages too, I know Porsche is 23 in the series, but I'm not sure about Kinn; I heard he was around Mile's age? Or at least older, so maybe 26-29ish. If so, that would make him around 8-11 when Porsche's mother died, which I agree is not very plausible if they're going with the "they were too young to remember" route (Tankhun would be a teenager at that point and definitely remember, unless his memory was affected by his ptsd).

I do absolutely love the idea of it, of little Kinn and Porsche playing together at each other's house, and then years later coming back to said houses, not remembering anything except this vague feeling of familiarty and somehow knowing which hallway to turn into despite "never having been there before". And the family members taking to Porsche so quickly because they already knew him, they just don't remember. It's not just his charm that pulls them in, it's the feeling of familiarty they just can't seem to place.

And then maybe one of them remembering later!!!! Kinn getting a flashback of a strange backyard with a little boy that looks familiar. Or Tankhun knowing Porsche likes something but not knowing how he knows. Or Porsche telling Korn something that Korn had told him but not knowing that's where it came from...

It's like childhood friends to lovers but make it mafia memoryloss massacre.
