I've been thinking about it for a bit (and it's probably obvious) but did you notice the giant frog and the tentacles are basically clown fish and anemones? I only realized once someone pointed out to me that the giant frogs have clown fish colors.

And then I realized the tentacles are also classified as "anthozoa" in the AB which is the the class anemones are a part of

The comment about nematocysts is also how it works for anemones, Kui draws a pretty cool graph of how it works too (a little different real ones but conveys the idea well)

I just always thought that was a pretty cool detail that I missed for a while! It's very cool how inspired by real animals Ryoko Kui's monsters are, I'm always amazed by how much sense they make.

I started this around September 2023 anticipating to finish it for dunmeshi's finale! But things got hectic! Here is the finished product to celebrate anime airing day; 2024 is truly the year of dunmeshi!

Something so important to me about Kabru is the way so many of his experiences with humans parallel Laios', and yet they ended up with exact opposite feelings about them. Laios loves monsters, Kabru hates them. Laios wished he was a monster (so he wouldn't have to deal with people who hated him), Kabru grew up believing he already was one (his father being an incubus would explain why people hated him). Laios is aware that people tend not to like him, so he's given up on trying to endear himself to them. Kabru is aware he doesn't fit in anywhere he goes, and is desperate to trick people into thinking otherwise. When Laios was a kid he would fantasise about the exact type of event that ruined Kabru's life.

Laios loves monsters, and he excells at killing them. Kabru is exactly the same for people, despite having every opportunity to choose to hate them instead.

I adore how Ryoko Kui compares all her characters, it’s a really good practice to do so when you have a lot of characters like she does. She’s so incredibly good at making each character unique and realistic for the world they live in, it’s so beautiful and I am going to take so many notes from her when making characters in the future.

I'm here for the "Senshi is trans" headcanons because of the most recent episode, and I hear you. But an often overlooked aspect of fantasy writing and character design is the for dwarven folk, women can be just as masculine as men. It varies depending on the source, but depending on the culture, author, and/or creator, dwarven women can have beards just as magnificent as dwarven men, and I choose to believe Ryoko Kui knows this and is going to acknowledge this within the world of Dungeon Meshi (if she hasn't already, anime only here). KEEP YOUR TRANS HEADCANONS THO, I DON'T WANT TO DISCOURAGE Y'ALL!!!!! I just think it's a neat little aspect that we don't see often, and I hope to see it in this series.

I was inspired by Ryōko Kui's Dungeon Meshi artwork, especially her grids of each fantasy race, and wanted to do something similar for my original species in Other Skies. I felt it would be a good challenge and would be useful to future players, since it shows a variety of folk from each species.

In order from top to bottom, this set includes Santornans, Lunestrians, and Laranthians.

I tried to include multiple ages, genders, and body types in each one. It's been quite fun so far! My plan is to post them in sets of 3 until all 9 species are represented.

Set #2 - Eshenali, Zairs, and Atraxans

Set #3 - Sucralites, Kokoro, and Humans
