your art style is so cool and interesting, can i ask how you came up with it/developed it? id love to know what has inspired you the most over the years:3
Thank you very much for your compliment and question!
That's such an interesting and important topic for most artists out there and finding my art style was something that I struggled with as well. Your question actually inspired me to look back and reflect on how I actually got here, so this might be a bit of a long-winded answer.
But sincerity sometimes comes with a story...
When I was younger, I had this tendency to never colour anything I drew and I mean anything. I had decided that colouring just wasn’t something I was good at, so I avoided it like the plague. There were times where I attempted painting or using markers like the other kids, but I found it boring and didn’t care much about the outcome.
It became a self-fulfilling prophecy. My indifference and lack of practice led me to be very bad at it. I had the eye for colour and the internal understanding of shading and whatnot, but my hand was unable to follow through — as if my muscles were underdeveloped when it came to the act of coloring. I was terrible at my art class back in middle school. Ironic.
The funny thing is, during those years, I was actually very fond of painters (you know the classics). Such a paradox.
I admired artists like Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, and René Magritte.
Specific Works: – Soir Bleu by Hopper – Ladder to the Moon by O'Keeffe – La Victoire by Magritte
But, I kept that no colour schtick for many years... Until I actually got into digital art.
At the beginning, I kept doing the same old, same old: just line art. Intentionally seeing the world through greyscale-tinted glasses. I would sketch something and then make it digital, stuck in a limbo of digitalising traditional art. Took me more time to think about drawing then actually drawing. But like most artists, I had that itch. That itch to develop my own style, have a recognisable stamp in a world where it feels like everything has already been done.
So, I got into colour.
But it was not the classical way of drawing in a character or an object. I just went full-on abstract. Random spikes and shapes, filling line art with absurd neon colours. Not following rules, not trying to be correct or aesthetic. Too bored to draw correctly. Maybe too incapable to draw correctly. Just went full-on abstract.
And that worked for a while. And maybe it could have worked for even longer, who knows. The beauty of subjectivity in art.
But you eventually have to decide what you want to do with your art.
Do you want to be an illustrator? A graphic designer? A painter? A concept artist?
Then your art style should be able to work well with the path you choose. There are no rules... Until you have to work.
Of course, there’s the freelance route where people pay for what you offer (your personal style). But I felt unsatisfied with what I offered, you know. An internal feeling of discontent. When you’re on the right path, you can feel it.
So, I tried another method.
I saw a video from Ethan Becker about finding your art style. He suggested choosing 3 artists you love and try to mash their styles into one (I am butchering a bit the preface but its been a while, so you should try and search it for yourself).
The artists I picked were: – Kim Jung Gi – Sui Ishida – Anthony Chong Jones (robotpencil)
Did I really combine their art styles into one? Definitely not. I chose incredibly talented artists for reference when I barely understood the program I was using. For example, I tried to translate watercolour into hard shapes, which was not the goal — but it gave me an idea.
And maybe the drive that stems from ideas was what actually pushed me to try more and colour more and do... More!
So I practiced.
I practiced this new art style (which was not yet my style) for a while, but that same gut feeling of dissatisfaction still lingered.
Then, I drew something randomly. Just a random character, using random techniques. A random idea on a random day during a random month.
Maybe I was unconsciously thinking about how I used to draw and how I wanted to draw.
I digitalised my rough lines and coloured with more control. And coloured even more and more. Neon shapes but also shading. No reference. No help. No right answers. Just me combining everything I knew into something. Just me drawing.
And it worked, it felt right. Did it need more development? Of course, it was not perfect and maybe it will never be described as perfect. But it felt right... It finally felt like I was heading into the right direction or I don't know. It was just a feeling honestly.
If you look at my work from 2024, that’s where I was at.
So I kept going. I kept drawing. And I became better at drawing, better at understanding myself. I stopped searching for how to draw correctly, I just drew. I found more artists that I love, like Takato Yamamoto and seongryul, but I enjoyed their art without imitating them. I just appreciated them.
And now we are here, 2025, somewhere where I feel satisfied with how I draw because it feels mine. It's rough and abstract but controlled. And it makes sense to me. It’s overly detailed, it's chaotic and takes forever to finish but I genuinely love it.
My personal opinion is this:
Yes, it's good and very important to search up artists and understand their techniques. Actually, to learn their techniques. But when it comes to personal style, try to draw how you want to draw*.
* how to draw anatomy, perspective, portraits, need references and a lot of research, this is solely about art style!
Try to use the programs (your tools) differently, unorthodoxly. Remember how you used to create when you were younger (rough lines? minimal?) and visualise it.
Sometimes not looking at things makes us reflect more, like staring at a dark ceiling and imagining stories and shapes. The old fashioned way, during a time where we didn't have such intense outside stimuli.
Innovation can stem from a personal need, frustration, experience. Everyone has something in them that sets them apart: their USP (unique selling proposition).
Sorry for the long answer but the journey truly is more important than the destination. If I didn't have trials and errors and vexation, I wouldn't be here. As much as I was inspired by incredible artists, I was also inspired by myself — because I made the choice to be me.
Like that classic Robert Frost poem says:
"I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
I hope this was even a tiny bit helpful and that I actually answered your question because I went a bit on a tangent. I am no expert in anything except my own life, so take everything with a grain of salt.
Take care!

I had this idea that the shimmer altered her tattoos and added a "decomposing look" on half her body
