Finland, the land of thousand lakes

One would not even think what a magical place Finalnd is. It is truly a real pearl in the world. We hope, that you get in the mood to vosot Finland just as much as we did!

Helsinki

Finland’s capital city is not that typical, crowded, noisy place as many would think. But during the night life it shows the most friendly and vivid side to us. Besided this, we can also take pleasure invisiting the citiy’s architectural masterpieces. One of the capital city’s most popular spectacle is the Tuomiokirkko Cathedral, designed by Carl Ludwig Engel. This building, towering on the Northern part of Senate Square, is not only a landmark for those arriving by sea, it has become a symbol for the whole of Helsinki.

Then  we can have a freshening and inspiartional walk at the coast, or we can jump on a ferry which goes to one of the small islands belonging to Helsinki. The fortress of Suomenlinna  can be reachedwith a short ferry trip from the citycentre. This suburb, consisting of 6 islands, all offering a diffenrt atmosphere so whatever mood we are in, we can surely find the right activity.

Archipelago

At the coast of Finalnd we can find the world’s biggest archipelago. Old wooden towns, lighthouses, historical manors and the laid-back islander lifestyle, all sums up coastal Finland in a nutshell.

Bengtskär lighthouse is the southernmost destination in Finland, standing on a small, treeless island. It is the highest lighthouse in the Nordic countries and is rich in history. Nowadays the six lighthouse keepers’ rooms serve as accommodation and there is also a restaurant in the building.

Åland is an autonomous and monolingual Swedish region of Finland and consists of more than 6 500 islands. The capital, Mariehamn, a cute village-like town with a strong maritime and shipping heritage, is the only city in the unspoiled, ruggedly beautiful archipelago.

Lakeland

When we visit Lakeland is like – as they say – getting to know the heart of Finnish identity. There are a total of 188 000 lakes in Finland – from the metropolitan area around Helsinki all the way up to Inari in Lapland. Ont he Eastern side of Finland is situated Saimaa, the country’s greatest lake, where the Saimaa ringed seal, one of the most endangered species in the world, live.

This lake washes some big cities’ coasts. One of them is Savonlinna. This place is perfect for short city breaks and lakeside cottage holidays as well. The main cultural event is the annual Savonlinna Opera Festival, held in the medieval Olavinlinna Castle.

MAGYAR Finnország, az ezer tó országa

Nem is gondolná az ember, hogy mennyire varázslatos hely is Finnország. Egy igazi gyöngyszem. Reméljük ti is legalább akkora kedvet kaptok ennek az országnak a felfedezéséhez, mint mi kaptunk!

Helsinki

Finnország fővárosa nem az a tipikus, zsúfolt, hangos, nyüzsgő hely, ahogy sokan gondolnák. Ezzel szemben az éjszakai élet során a lehető legbarátságosabb és élettel teli oldalát mutatja meg nekünk. Emellett pedig a város különböző építészeti remekeiben is gyönyörködhetünk. A város egyik legnépszerűbb látványossága a Tuomiokirkko katedrális, amelyet Carl Ludwig Engel tervezett. Ez az építmény, a Szenátus tér északi részén magasodva, nem csak a tenger felől érkezők számára jelent tájékozódási pontot, de mára már Helsinki jelképévé vált.

Majd egy frissítő és lélekemlő sétát vehetünk a parton, vagy felugorhatunk egy kompra is, ami az egyik Helsinkihez tartozó kis szigetre igyekszik. A Suomenlinna erődítmény is egy ilyen rövid komp útra található a belvárostól. A hat szigetből álló külvárosi rész mindegyike más és más atmoszférával rendelkezik, így bármihez is van kedvünk, itt megtalálhatjuk a megfelelő elfoglaltságot.

Szigetvilág

Finnország partjainál a világ legnagyobb szigetvilágát találjuk. Régi, fából készült házak, világítótornyok, történelemmel átitatott majorságok és nyugodt szigeti életmód. Ennyivel lehetne jellemezni dióhéjban Finnország partvidékét.

A Bengtskär világítótorony, Finnország legdélebbi pontja, egy kis, fák nélküli szigeten helyezkedik el. Ez a világítótorony a legmagasabb az északi országokban, és telis-tele van történelemmel. Ma az őrzők szobái kivehetők szállásként, valamint étterem is működik az építmény belsejében.

Åland egy autonóm, egynyelvű svéd régiója Finnországnak, amelyet több mint 6500 sziget alkot. A „főváros” Mariehamn egy aranyos, falu-szerű város, jelentős tengerészeti és hajózási örökséggel. Ez az egyetlen város az érintetlen, rettentően gyönyörű szigetvilágban.

Tóország

Amikor ellátogatunk Finnország ezen részébe, ahogy ők mondják, megismerkedünk az igazi finn identitással. Az országban összesen 188 ezer tó található Helsinki metropolita környékétől kezdve egészen a lapföldi Inari-ig. Az ország keleti részén található a Saima, az ország legnagyobb tava, amiben a Saima tavi gyűrűsfóka él, amely a világ egyik legveszélyeztetettebb faja.

A tó több nagyobb település partjait mossa. Az egyik ilyen Savonlinna. Ez a hely tökéletesen alkalmas egy rövid városi kiruccanásra, vagy egy tóparti vendégházas kikapcsolódásra is. A legnagyobb kulturális esemény az éves Opera Fesztivál, amelyet a középkori Olavinlinna kastélyban rendeznek meg.

USA, far beyond the cliches

The United States of America has so many sights and natural miracles that organizing a trip comes with hesitation, selection and, of course, with a lot of heart ache. Simply beacuese even on a reflectively long holiday is still impossible to see the whole country, to see all of its beauty. Now we have brought an overview, which is not displaying the most well-known, and most popular places, but they are at least just as beautiful, we promise.

Big Sur – For those who love being on the road with a splendid scenary

Let’s start our journey, and to that what could be better, then Big Sur. This place lies on the middle coastline of California, full of sinuous roads, cozy towns, and with an almost fully untouched nature, and it happens to be a national park. Big Sur can be found in Monterey County, unfolding between Camel Highlands and San Simeon, where the Santa Lucia Mountains raise above the Pacific ocean. Sounds magical, isn’t it? If you dream about a beautiful view and peace, then this is one of the best places in the USA to do it so.

Taos Pueblos – A special cultural and historical experience

This place, which can be found in New-Mexico, and was founded a thousand years ago by the Native American tribe of Puebloan people, happens to be not just a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but one of the oldest continously inhabited communities in the United States. This place, filled with history and ancient culture – as the remains of Puebloan people’s architecture can be seen here –, was constructed in the valley of one of Rio Grande’s smaller streams.

Jazz, French Quarter, Voodoo – Experience the magic of New Orleans!

New Orleans is like being in another world. The city is still pervaded by the feeling of isolation, which is because of the swampland around it. Being an originally French settlement, the French culture – and everything that comes with it – is still present very strongly in New Orleans. There is an expanded French Quarter, also called Vieux Carré, where the remaining buildings and the small antique and vintage shops on their ground floors evoke the atmosphere of the 1800s. The French Quarter is not only famous because of the French and Spanis Creole architecture, but also because of the night life of the Bourbon Street.

Thanks to the history and the strategical port, the city welcomed and took into the culture and people from several nations during the 18th and 19th century. This is why this place has magic in its veins. They speak a different dialect, plus they have particular cultural habits, which derive mostly from the French or French-creole speaking black community, arriving to New Orleans because of the slave-trade. This is why it is possible that in New Orleans voodoo  is still alive and is practiced widely. We can also thank the black community the birth of jazz. New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz, nowadays we can catch the sounds of this music coming out of every bar.

The carnevals and festivals of New Orleans are based on this cultural heritage, and we strongly recommend not miss them out while in the city! One of them is Mardi Gras. This begins two weeks prior to Shrove Tuesday, and ends before Ash Wednesday. Parades, costumes, masks, fortune-tellers, bands and dance. With all these we can perfectly describe how the Carneval looks like. Besides this, there is the Jazz Fest – New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival – and the Voodoo Experience which are the other two most famous events in the city, all of them bringing a particular experience and magic to our lives.

MAGYAR USA, a kliséken túl

Az Amerikai Egyesült Államok oly sok látványossággal és természeti csodával rendelkezik, hogy egy körutazás megszervezése igencsak sok hezitálással, válogatással, na és persze szívfájdalommal jár. Hiszen egy hosszabb, alapos utazás során sem vagyunk képesek bejárni teljes egészében az országot, hogy láthassuk az összes csodáját. Most egy olyan áttekintőt hozunk nektek, ami nem éppen a legismertebb, legfelkapottabb, ám legalább annyira gyönyörű helyekre kalauzol el benneteket.

Big Sur – Az út és a gyönyörű látvány kedvelőinek

Induljunk is útnak, s ehhez mi más lenne megfelelőbb, mint a Big Sur, a Kalifornia partvonalának középső szakaszán elterülő kanyargós útszakaszokkal, hangulatos városkákkal tűzdelt, szinte teljes mértékben érintetlen természeti állapotú nemzeti park. A Big Sur Monterey megyében található, Carmel Highlands és San Simeon között terül el, ahol a Santa Lucia Mountain a Csendes-óceán fölé magasodik. Varázslatosan hangzik, igaz? Ha szép látványra, nyugalomra vágysz, akkor ez az egyik legtökéletesebb időtöltés az USA nyugati partján.

Ez az Új-Mexikóban található, több mint ezer éve a pueblo indiánok által alapított település nem csak a Világörökség része, de úgy vélik, hogy ez az USA legrégebb óta lakott települése. A Rio Grande egy kisebb mellékfolyójának völgyében terül el ez a történelemmel és ősi kultúrával átitatott hely, hiszen a pueblo indiánok máig fennmaradt építészetének és kultúrájának emlékei találhatók itt.

Jazz, French Quarter, Voodoo – Tapasztald meg a varázslatot!

New Orleans olyan, mintha az ember egy külön világba csöppenne. A várost még mindig átitatja az elszigeteltség érzése, ami a körülötte elterülő mocsaras vidéknek köszönhető. Francia eredetű településként a mai napig nagyon erős a francia kultúra – és annak minden velejárójának – jelenléte a városban. Igencsak kiterjedt francia negyeddel, az úgynevezett Vieux Carré-val rendelkezik, ahol továbbra is megmaradt az épületeknek, és azok földszintjén található kis antik és vintage boltoknak köszönhetően az 1800-as évek hangulata. A Francia Negyed nem csak a francia és spanyol kreol építészetről, hanem a Bourbon Street éjszakai élete miatt is híres.

A város, történelméből, és stratégiai fontosságú kikötőjéből fakadóan, több népet, kultúrát fogadott magába az 1700-as, 1800-as években. Ennek köszönhető a hely varázsa. Külön dialektust beszélnek a new orleans-i lakosok, valamint sajátos kulturális szokásokat tartanak fent, melyek leginkább a francia, francia-kreol nyelveket beszélő, ide érkező fekete rabszolgáktól származnak. Így lehetséges az, hogy a városban erősen él a voodoo, valamint az ehhez fűződő szokások és közösségi összejövetelek. Szintén a fekete lakosságnak köszönhetjük a jazz létrejöttét. New Orleans a jazz szülővárosa, a mai napig minden bárból hallhatjuk a jazz kiszűrődő hangjait.

Ezekre épülnek New Orleans karneváljai és fesztiváljai is, amiket nem érdemes kihagyni, ha már a városban járunk! Az egyik ilyen a Mardi Gras. Ez két héttel Húshagyókedd előtt kezdődik általában, és még Hamvazószerda beköszönte előtt véget ér. Felvonulások, jelmezek, maszkok, kártyavetők, jósok, zenekarok és tánc. Ezzel körülbelül le is fedtük a legfőbb jellemzőit a Karneválnak. Ezen kívül a Jazz Fest – New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival –, valamint a Voodoo Experience a leghíresebb rendezvények a városban, mind külön élményt és varázst hoznak az életünkbe.

Movie recommendation: In Bruges - Belgium

If you would like to watch a movie that shows you around the wonderful city of Bruges and also contains a handful of dark humour then In Bruges is perfect for you - even though its Hungarian title is so shameful, we would never say it out loud nor write it down in any of our posts.

‘There's never been a classic movie made in Bruges until now.’ ‘Of course there hasn't. It's a shithole.’ ‘Bruges is my hometown, Ray.’ ‘Well, it's still a shithole.’

The In Bruges is Martin McDonagh’s first feature film. Later, he also directed the Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri that is so spectacular, it was nominated for Oscar in many categories. By the end of the gala, it got two sculptures - one for the best actress, one for the best supporting actor.

According to the movie’s plot, after they fail their job, Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson) are laying low in Bruges, a city in Belgium that looks like a place straight from a real-life fairytale but it fails to impress Ray who can’t stop complaining. As the story goes on, the audience gets more information about the failed job and the main reason behind the hitmen’s stay in Bruges.

This movie is not just a side-splitting, dark comedy, but also a bone-chilling drama, full of characteristic and brilliant dialogues and scenes that describe McDonagh’s works. Therefore, we strongly recommend this film for those who have a special kind of humour which contains provocative jokes and are not afraid of movies that truly are emotional roller-coasters.

MAGYAR Filmajánló: In Bruges

Ha szeretnél látni egy filmet, ami körbevezet Bruges csodás városában, és egy zseniálisan szórakoztató fekete komédia is egyben, akkor az  In Bruges (aminek a magyar címét soha, semmilyen körülmények között nem ejtjük ki a szánkon, avagy vetjük papírra) pontosan neked való.

“- Eddig még sosem készült filmklasszikus Brugesben. - Persze, hogy nem, ez egy szarfészek. - Bruges a szülővárosom, Ray. - Nos, attól még szarfészek.”

Az In Bruges Martin McDonagh első nagyjátékfilmje. A rendező későbbi filmjét, a Három óriásplakát Ebbing határábant több Oscar-díjra is jelöltek. A legjobb női főszereplőnek és a legjobb férfi mellékszereplőnek járó díjat szerezte meg.

A történet szerint Ray (Colin Farrell) és Ken (Brendan Gleeson) egy rosszul sikerült meló után Bruges városában húzzák meg magukat, egy igazi tündérmesébe illő városban, ami Ray tetszését sehogy sem nyeri el, és folyamatosan panaszkodik. Eközben egyre több dolog derül ki a félrement melóról, és arról is, hogy miért vannak valójában abban a városban.

Ez a film amellett, hogy rekeszizmokat megedző fekete komédia, egy csontig hatoló dráma is tele a  McDonagh munkásságára jellemző zseniális párbeszédekkel is szituációkkal. Mindenképpen azoknak ajánlom, akik bírják a provokatív vicceket, és nem félnek, ha egy film egyik hangulatból a másikba dobálja őket.

Movie recommendation: Snowpiercer - South Korea

The Snowpiercer is one of the best-known South Korean science fiction movies that most likely got popular thanks to the Hollywood actors acting alongside the Korean cast. After the premier (and success) of this movie, the writer-director Joon-ho Bong got his chance on Netflix, making a film about a girl and her best friend, a genetically modified, hippo-like creature, Okja.

According to the plot of Snowpiercer, the world freezes completely and the biggest part of the human race dies along with it except a small amount of people. The (un)lucky survivors find their safe haven on an enormous train that never stops moving, traveling around the frozen world restlessly. However, the caste system didn’t fade away with the warmth, it’s very much alive and those, who live on the tail, suffer the most. Therefore, the main character of the movie, Curtis (played by Chris Evans) starts a revolution in order to create a more rightful system instead of their rotten one.

The movie exploits the interesting concept quite well as it portrays the sharp difference between the castes in a creative way and uses intense action scenes, directed with effective professionalism. Not to mention the amazing cast putting the cherry on the top of the pie. For example, Tilda Swinton presents one of the most hateful villains of the year and Ed Harris plays the charismatic tyrant ever so naturally in the end of the movie.

Snowpiercer has a structure that makes the audience wonder about the world because it portrays the dynamics of the class struggle perfectly. Every part of the train is a cog in a well-operating system. So, we strongly recommend it to everyone if not because of the criticism behind the lines, then because of the plot twist in the end.

MAGYAR Filmajánló: Snowpiercer -Túlélők viadala

Az egyik legismertebb dél-koreai sci-fi film a Snowpiercer (a maga teljesen érthetetlen alcímével), aminek ismertségének nagyságában az is közrejátszik, hogy dél-koreai színészek mellett egy hollywoodi sztárgárda is helyet kapott. Az író-rendező Bong Joon-ho ezután a Netflixen is lehetőséget kapott, ahol az Okja filmjét tette le az asztalra egy kislány és a genetikailag módosított vízilószerű lény történetéről.

A Snowpiercer története szerint megfagy a világ, az emberiség legnagyobb része elpusztul, de a túlélők pár tucatja egy állandóan zakatoló, sínjein folyamatosan haladó vonaton lelnek menedéket és éldegélnek ott jó pár éve. De a vonaton már a kezdetektől uralkodik egy kegyetlen kasztrendszer, amit a vonat leghátsó részében lakó alsó osztály szenved meg igazán. Főhősünk (az Amerika Kapitányként ismert Chris Evans) forradalmat szít, hogy igazságos rendszert harcoljon ki az emberiség utolsó mentsvárában. (Avagy mentsvonatában?)

A film rendkívül jól kiaknázza a már önmagában érdekes koncepciót, kreatívan prezentálja a vonat különböző részeit, elképesztően hatásos és profin megrendezett akciójelenetek tarkítják a cselekményt, emellett a rosszfiúk oldalán Tilda Swinton csodálatos alakítást nyújt, az év egyik legellenszenvesebb alakját sikerült életre keltenie, a lezárásnál pedig Ed Harris is kisujjából kirázza a karizmatikus zsarnokot. Elgondolkodtató felépítéssel bír a Snowpiercer, ahogy egy ilyen apró közegben prezentálja az osztályharc dinamikáját, ahol az egész vonat és annak minden része egy jól érthető allegória része. Nézzétek meg ti is, a végén egy ütős csattanó is vár rátok!

Movie recommendation: Pirates of the Caribbean - The Bahamas

It’s an interesting fact that the Bahamas doesn’t actually belong to the area of the Caribbean Sea, although during the 15th and 16th centuries it was referred to as its most important spot. Since some scenes of the Pirates of the Caribbean had been shot on this spectacular island chain, it was obvious for us to put these movies in the spotlight in this post.

The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was the first time Johnny Depp personated captain Jack Sparrow. It was also the first for us to see the tipsy, strange yet lovable pirate who could never stay loyal whenever he chose sides. This character worked the best in this movie mostly because his weird gestures and constant babbling had a refreshing effect on the audience. The main character of the series is the already mentioned rum lover captain lacking a ship but not commitment to get his beloved Black Pearl back from his cursed crew. In order to do that, he teamed up with Will Turner whose only goal was to save Elizabeth Swann, his lover who had been kidnapped by the immortal pirates.

The second movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,  came three years later. This time, Jack Sparrow and his mates met the infamous Davy Jones, the captain of the Flying Dutchman and the dreadful kraken coming after the captain because of a blood oath Jack had made with Jones. This movie left mixed feelings in the audience because even though it conducted to the last part of the trilogy, it seemed a bit too complicated considering captain Sparrows actions. Though, regardless of the mentioned mistakes, the scenery of this movie was better than ever and the makers did a great job with the action scenes, so they managed to bring the wanted attention to the final part.

The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End was shot right after the second movie therefore it was seen on the silver screen a year after the previous one’s premier. In the final part, even Captain Barbossa had come back to life in order to rescue Jack Sparrow and fight with the East India Trading Company, the main opponent of the movie. More powerful fight scenes on the sea, more pirate fractions, more sword fights and explosions - that’s how we can describe the At World’s End where the makers tied up some loose ends and left some others be, so everyone could be aware that they were ready to make new adventures located in the Caribbean area.

MAGYAR Filmajánló: A Karib-tenger kalózai

Érdekesség, hogy a Bahama-szigetek földrajzilag nem tartozik Karib-tenger térségébe, viszont a 15-16. században mégis az egyik legfontosabb helyszíne volt.  A Karib-tenger kalózai jó néhány jelenetét is e fantasztikus látvánnyal rendelkező szigetcsoportnál vették föl, így adja magát, hogy kibeszéljük mind az öt kalózos (arggh) alkotást.

A Karib-tenger kalózai – A Fekete Gyöngy átkában bújt először Jack Sparrow kapitány bőrébe Johnny Depp, és ekkor ismerkedhettünk meg először a részeges, rettentően fura alakkal, aki folyamatosan váltogatta az oldalakat. Az első filmben működött leginkább a figura, főleg mivel ekkor újdonságként hatott a fura gesztikulációja és zavaros beszéde. A történet középpontjában az előbb részletezett Jack Sparrow kapitány áll, kinek hajója nincs, viszont annál nagyobb eltökéltsége, hogy visszaszerzi azt elátkozott legénységétől. Ebben segítségére lesz Will Turner, aki az elrabolt Elizabeth Swann miatt vállalkozik arra, hogy a Fekete Gyöngy nyomába eredjenek.

Három évvel később érkezett a folytatás, A Karib-tenger kalózai – Holtak Kincse, melyben feltűnt a hírhedt Bolygó Hollandi, a félelmetes Kraken, akik  Jack Sparrow nyomában vannak, hiszen egy régi vérszerződés szerint a kapitány a lelkével tartozik. Ez a film sokakban keltett vegyes érzéseket, hiszen egyrészről a trilógia befejező darabját vezette fel, másrészről maga a történet túlbonyolítottnak érződött, ahol Jack Sparrow pálfordulásai már egyre követhetetlenebbek voltak. Ennek ellenére a látvány még ütősebb lett, remek hajós összecsapásokat kaptunk, és a célját végül is elérte, hiszen sokak érdeklődését felkeltette a harmadik rész iránt.

Mivel a A Karib-tenger kalózai – A világ végén filmet egyszerre forgatták le az előzővel, emiatt egy évvel később már a mozikba is került a lezáró darab. Itt a már előző részben is felvezetett Kelet-Indiai Társaság avanzsált a főgonosszá, akik ellen még Barbossa kapitány is visszatért a halálból, hogy kiszabadítsák Jack Sparrow. Még nagyobb tengeri csaták, még több kalóz frakció, még több kardozás és robbanás jellemzi a befejező részt, ahol többé-kevésbé elvarrják a szálakat, de véletlenül sem felejtik el belengetni, hogy készen állnak még több folytatást készíteni.

When we talk about the differences between the East and the West, we usually come up with pompous phrases like individualism, masculinism or the strong appearance of the hierarchy in the society’s everyday life. Only a few people think about the slightest differences between these two, fundamentally different ways of seeing the world, for example, what having a snack means for the other.

In South Korea, one calls a dozen types of stodgy meals made with rice, meat and vegetables snack which can be unbelievable at first hearing. Anyway, considering the fact that they have a different idea of snacking, it might not be a surprise that kimchibuchimgae and bindaetteok both have advantages over the classical candies like crisps or gummy bears.

Kimbap

If you split the word kimbap into two and translate it directly, you’ll get “seaweed rice” and this phrase basically describes the meal quite perfectly. One literally can put anything inside the sticky rice wrapped into the roasted seaweed sheet, whether you choose seafood, different types of meat or raw vegetables, it’s up to your liking.

Yesterday, we did try to make this so-called Korean sushi and even though - after making a weak attempt to scroll the first roll - we all doubted that one can prepare this food in a nice way without a bamboo mat, we succeeded.

Some unprofessional advice you should listen to before you try it at home:

if you’re confident enough, you don’t need a bamboo mat to make beautiful kimbap rolls

don’t put too much meat or too many vegetables on the top of the rice because they make it hard to roll the seaweed sheet

you don’t have to buy special rice to make kimbap, the only thing you have to pay attention to is the proportion of the rice and the water amount which is one to two

even if you’re not starving, you should cut all the rolls you made before you put the food into your fridge because the next time, you take it off, it will be too cold and also impossible to cut it nicely

Tteokbokki

This meal is typically made in a little water and its main ingredients are rice noodle rolls and chili cream although one can prepare various types of tteokbokki nowadays. When we talk about various types, we doesn’t mean one with and one without spices. Thanks to the flexibility of tteokbokki that gives the opportunity to experience, creating amazing foods such as rabokki that is literally the mixture of ramen and tteokbokki.

MAGYAR Mert nassolni mindig lehet

Amikor a nyugati és a keleti kultúra különbségeiről beszélünk, általában olyan szavakkal dobálózunk, mint az individualizmus, maszkulinitás vagy a hierarchia erőteljes megjelenése a társadalom mindennapi életében. Kevesen gondolnak arra, hogy ez a két, alapjaiban eltérő világszemléleti mód olyan apróságokban is megmutatkozik, mint például az, hogy ki mit tekint nassolni valónak.

Dél-Koreában például ebbe a kategóriába esik például egy tucatnyi olyan étel, aminek az elkészítéséhez rizsre, húsra és zöldségekre van szükség. A legelterjedtebb snackeket - mint például a különböző ízekben kapható chipseket és gumicukrokat - a kimchibuchimgae és a bindaetteok is messze megelőzik.

Kimbap

A kimbap elemeire bontva annyit tesz, hínár rizs, ez a két szó pedig tökéletesen körülírja a lényegét. A szárított hínárba tekert, ragacsos rizs belsejébe szinte bármilyen extra hozzávaló kerülhet, hiszen ízlés kérdése, hogy valaki a tenger gyümölcseit, más húsokat vagy a nyers zöldségeket részesíti-e előnyben.

Tegnap délután mi is kipróbáltuk, hogyan készül a koreai sushi, és bár az első henger feltekerése közben őszintén kételkedtünk benne, hogy bambusztekercs nélkül is lehet gyönyörű falatkákat készíteni, végül mégis sikerült.

Pár apróság, amit nem árt észben tartani:

ha bízol a kézügyességedben, nincs szükség bambusztekercsre ahhoz, hogy elkészíts a kimbap hengereket

ne rakj túl sok zöldséget vagy húst a rizshez, mert nem tudod majd feltekerni a hínárlapot

nem muszáj sushi rizst venned, de akkor figyelj a megfelelő rizs-víz arányra, ami ideálisan 1:2

még ha nem is vagy feltétlenül farkas éhes, vágd fel az összes tekercset, mielőtt a hűtőbe pakolnád az elkészült kimbapot, mert estére vagy másnap reggelre már annyira kihűl, hogy nem tudod szépen felszeletelni

Tteokbokki

A tteokbokki tipikusan egy kevés vízben főtt étel, ami alapvetően rizstészta-rudakból és csilikrémből áll, jóllehet ma már tucatnyi változatban elkészíthető. És itt most nem csak a csípős és kevésbé csípős receptekre kell gondolni. A tteokbokki változatossága olyan ételkülönlegességek megszületésére adott lehetőséget, mint például a rabokki, ami szó szerint a ramen és a tteokbokki fúziója.

The Feast of Thanksgiving in the United States were on 22nd November this year. In fact, unlike the myths, it is not closely connection with religion, it is rather a typical family gathering. Everyone thinks of the past year, how much good things were, which has to give thanks. At this time, the common meal and the positive thoughts are in the central.

If we have considered at the Thanksgiving dinner, we definitely remember the turkey. We know from American movies that the biggest problem is that the turkey can not fit into the oven. But it isn’t the only problem. We must have time for it. One day before the event, we need to souse the turkey because of the taste. We can use butter, so the meat wouldn’t get dry and soak the spices better. And one more problem, a tactical one, the fridge… It has to fit even there. We can use spices as we want, but rub then to the meat as we can. The next day we can start baking. It can take three and a half hours. It is worth to sprinkling with hot grease and broth during the cooking hours. There is always a potato puree, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie on the festive table as well.

A little bit apart from the celebration. If American, say maple syrup and pancake. However it’s time for the American donut. There are already available ovens for them. We tried to make some little one for us. On the Internet, everybody can find a lot of recipe. Overall it is not too complicated, essentially like pancake dough. You need to take care how many butter you have to use. One more tip the baking powder… Use as much as it is written. However you will receive dried or over-sliced donuts. Dried ones can look better with castor sugar and cinnamon or you can use Nutella and problem solved.

MAGYAR Hála: a pulyka a sütőben, a fánk ideális

Idén november 22-ére esett a Hálaadás ünnepe az Amerikai Egyesült Államokban. A tévhitekkel ellentétben ez nem kötődik szorosan a valláshoz, inkább egy tipikus családi összejövetelnek számít. Mindenki átgondolja az elmúlt évet és azt, hogy mennyi jó dolog történt vele, amiért hálát adhat. Ilyenkor mindenképpen központi szerepnek örvend a közös étkezés és a pozitív gondolatok.

Ha már a hálaadás vacsorájánál tatunk, mindenképp eszünkbe jut a pulyka. Az amerikai filmekből tudjuk, hogy a legnagyobb probléma ilyenkor, hogy a pulyka nem fér be a sütőbe.  Ám nem ez az egyetlen probléma. Ezt bizony nem lehet az utolsó pillanatra hagyni. Időt kell rá szánnunk. Egy nappal előtte már be kell pácolni a pulykát, hogy ízesebb legyen. Használjunk fűszervajat, hogy a fűszereket is jobban be tudja szívni és sütésnél se száradjon ki. Egy taktikai probléma még adódik, a pácolás után ennek a hűtőbe is be kell férnie. Fűszerezhetjük kedvünk szerint, de jó erősen dörzsöljük a húsba, hogy magába tudja fogadni az ízét. Az ünnepi asztalon mindig megtalálható a pulyka mellett a krumplipüré, az áfonyaszósz és a sütőtökös sütemény.

Egy picit rugaszkodjunk el az ünnepléstől. Nehogy hiányt szenvedjünk, hiszen, ha Amerika, akkor juharszirup és palacsinta. Azonban most az amerikai fánk kapta a főszerepet. Elérhető a boltokban már külön sütő a fánkoknak. Megpróbáltunk pár aprócskát készíteni. Az interneten bárki találhat receptet, hiszen rengeteg van fent. Összeségében ez nem egy bonyolult művelet, lényegében a palacsintatésztára hajaz. Ügyelni kell a vaj mennyiségére, nehogy leragadjon és nehogy sok legyen. Egy hasznos tipp továbbá. A sütőpor. Annyit használjunk, amennyi írva van. Ha nem így teszünk, aszalt vagy túldagadt fánkokat kaphatunk. Az aszaltkák esetében egy kis porcukor és fahéj elrejtheti a hibákat vagy használjunk Nutellát és a probléma meg is van oldva.

Dream in reality - The Bahamas

The Bahamas with its small population is a real dream coming true, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and its azure waves, southeast from Florida. This beautiful country full of exotic places - where, by the way, the English is the official language - has its own harbour and international airport, both of them are located in the capital city, to the tourists’ delight. For those, who want to run away from their dull and monotonic daily routine filled with long working hours and graveyard shifts, this is the perfect place to hide until a whole week or two. 

This article focuses on the capital city, Nassau, highlighting all those places one could remember with a huge smile on their faces while they take a sip of their fancy cocktails on the beach.

Pompey Museum of Slavery and Emancipation at Vendue House

The museum was named after a courageous slave, Pompey, who lived in Steventon, a city in Exuma region. He was hailed as a hero even though the rebellion he had started failed, because regardless of the result, it was a key moment in the Bahamian fight for freedom. The Vendue House, also known as the Bourse, functioned as a marketplace until the late 1800s, selling enslaved Africans and other commodities for the zealous customers.

The Queen’s Staircase

The Queen’s Staircase, also referred to as the 66 steps, is located in the Fort Fincastle Historic Complex in Nassau. It was hewn out of limestone by slaves in 1793-94, making a direct path from Fort Fincastle to Nassau. The name, The Queen’s Staircase, was given after Queen Victoria a few decades later. She reigned in Britain until 1901. Fun fact that out of the 66 stairs, only 65 are visible since the pathway that leads to the steps was paved and the last step on the bottom is now buried under the asphalt.

Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Centre

This spacious, four hectares big area is highly specialized to reserve Caribbean species therefore all those who visit this otherwise beautiful garden are able to see the endangered Bahama Parrot in live whenever they’re in Nassau. And if you are one of those who can’t find joy in these rare birds, you can still watch the show of the marching flamingos as an attempt to seek entertainment, leaving the zoo with a bright smile on your face.

A Bahama-szigetek a maga csekély, párszázezres lakosságával egy valóra vált csoda az Atlanti-óceán kéklő felszínén, Floridától délkeleti irányban. Az egzotikus látványokban gazdag, egyébként angol nyelvű ország fővárosa, Nassau, a turisták nagy örömére nem csupán saját kikötővel, de nemzetközi repülőtérrel is rendelkezik, ami nagyban megkönnyíti azoknak a helyzetét, akik egy rövidke – vagy akár hosszabb – időre ki szeretnének szakadni a mindennapok szürke háztömbökkkel és monoton munkaórákkal teli körforgásából.

Jelen cikk a főváros szépségére fókuszál, kiemelve mindazokat a helyeket, amelyekre egy koktélt szürcsölgetve is mosolyogva emlékszik vissza az ember.

Pompey Rabszolgaság és Felszabadítás Múzeum a Vendue Házban

A múzeum egy bátor rabszolgáról, Pompeyről kapta a nevét, aki egy Steventon nevű városban élt, a Bahamák Exuma névre keresztelt régiójában, ahol lázadást szított a szabadság nevében. A Vendue Ház, vagy ahogy akkoriban hívták, a “Börze”, ugyanis az 1800-as évek végéig piacként funkcionált, ahol a leigázott afrikaiak mellett más árucikkeket is megvásárolhattak a lelkes érdeklődők.

Királynő lépcsője

A Királynő lépcsője, a helyiek által csak 66 lépcsőként emlegetett turisztikai látványosság a Fort Fincastle történelmi komplexumban található, Nassau területén. A mészkőből faragott építményt 1793-94 idején rabszolgák készítették, hogy közvetlen átjárást biztosítson Fort Fincastle és Nassau városa között. Nevét pedig csak évtizedekkel később, Viktória királynőről kapta, aki egészen 1901-ig ült a brit trónon. Érdekesség, hogy a 66 lépcsőfokból csupán 65 darab látható, mivel az út, ami az építményhez vezet, idővel ki lett kövezve, az első fokot pedig maga alá temette az aszfalt.

Ez a karibi fajok megőrzésére specializálódott, trópusi kert négy hektárnyi, tágas területet biztosít számos, különleges állat számára, így az arra járó, érdeklődő turisták többek között a veszélyeztetett állatok kategóriájába tartozó, Bahama Parrotot is megcsodálhatják, amikor Nassau városában járnak. Ha pedig valaki mégsem lelné kedvét a színes papagájok látványában, a menetelő flamingók által előadott műsor azért még mindig ott van, hogy mosolyt csaljon az arcára.

Movie recommendation: I hope that next time you die :) - Hungary

Schwechtje Mihály’s first feature movie represents the everyday life of high school students, filled with smartphones and constant online presence, therefore it’s a must-watch film for children and parents altogether.

The main character is Eszter, who is a big anime and manga fan, and who also has - along with her best friend - some platonic feelings for their English teacher. The plot starts when Mr. Csaba announces his leave and the fact that he’ll move to some other place with his family. Although, before he would actually disappear, he starts to speak with Eszter online and it becomes a habit despite the distance. Since I don’t intend to kill the fun, giving you all the spoilers, I’ll stop here. But I can assure you, this movie has real potential and surprises.

The Remélem legközelebb sikerül meghalnod :) shows the dramatic side of a teenager’s life - the loneliness, the alienation and the familiar feeling of no-one-can-understand-me - so genuinely in the modern environment, that it’s like a real documentary, directed by the teenagers themselves.

They show us the core of the teenager age as it is in reality. We see the joy, naivety, awkwardness, confusion and sorrow all at once.

The interesting plot would be nothing without the genuineness of the actors’ work, who bring the youth alive in a way that even the most professional film crew would envy. This movie makes you forget everything for that ninety-six minutes while it’s on the screen, and it achieves this without overdramatic techniques. It tells us a story about parents’ responsibility and the possible dangers of using a smartphone - it gives us an important message worths taking home.

After directing a few episodes of the HBO’s Terápia and the Aki bújt, aki nem short movie, Schwechtje Mihály finally showed us, what he’s capable of. So in our humble opinion, even though the ‘Filmalap’ (an organization that provides money to moviemakers) did not support this movie, it’s a real gem in the Hungarian Film Industry. Watch it, if you have a little time for something meaningful.

Schwechtje Mihály első nagyjátékfilmje elkalauzol bennünket a gimnazisták okostelefonokkal, állandó online jelenléttel és megannyi chateléssel átszőtt mindennapjaiba, amit sem a szülőknek, sem a fiataloknak nem érdemes kihagyni.

Történetünk főhőse Eszter, egy lila hajú manga- és animerajongó lány, aki barátnőjével együtt ápol plátói szerelmet angol tanáruk iránt. Az egyik angolórán viszont Csababá bejelenti, hogy elköltözik családjával, így kénytelen elbúcsúzni az iskolától. Viszont még mielőtt elmenne, elkezd beszélgetni a lánnyal online, majd a távolság ellenére is tartják egymással a kapcsolatot. Ennél többet nem is mondok, mivel tartogat meglepetéseket a film, még ha nem is titkolja túlságosan, nem szándékozom másoknak elrontani.

A Remélem legközelebb sikerül meghalnod :) roppant hitelesen ábrázolja a tinédzserkor apró és nagyobb drámáit, a magány és elidegenedést, a meg nem értettség érzését, mindezt a modern technológiai közegben oly természetesen, mintha maguk a fiatalok forgatták volna a saját életükről, nem úgy ahogy a szerintük régen minden jobb volt középkorúak méláznak a fiatal generáció mindennapjairól.

Úgy tálalják a tinédzserkor, amilyen az valójában. Annak minden örömével, naivságával, kínosságával, zavartságával és bánatával együtt.

Az érdekes cselekmény mit sem érne, ha nem játszana mindenki kellő hitelességgel, és keltenék életre úgy ezt a fiatal közeget, ahogy azt profibb stábok is megirigyelhetnék. Olyanfajta beszippantó élménnyel szolgál a film, amely hatásvadászat és túldramatizált szituációk nélkül mesél a serdülésről, a szülök felelősségéről és az okoseszközök jelentette veszélyekről, ami egy olyan rendkívül tanulságos filmmé teszi Eszter történetét, amit szülőknek és fiataloknak egyaránt ajánlatos megnézni.

Schwechtje Mihály az HBO Terápia pár részének rendezése és az Aki bújt, aki nem rövidfilm (ami még A fa alatt kísérőfilmje, amit még el lehet csípni a moziban) rendezése után megmutathatta, hogy mire képes. A filmet sajnálatos módon a Filmalap nem is támogatta, de legalább ti szavazzátok meg neki a bizalmat, hogy vesztek rá egy jegyet.

The hidden treasures of the East - South Korea

Nowadays the South Korean culture is almost as popular as the ethereal American Dream once was. Therefore it’s no wonder why this lovable country attracted so many tourists during the last few years. Let it be a super modern city full of electric devices or a haven with breathtaking natural phenomenon, in South Korea, everyone can have their share of this wonderful experience that makes their vacation unforgettable – in a good way, of course.

Seoul, Namsan Tower

The Namsan Tower, also known as the Seoul Tower, is a television and radio tower, located in the centre of Seoul, on the top of the Namsan Mountain. With its 236 metres, this is the second highest point of the city from where everyone can have a mesmerizing view of the neighbourhood districts. In 2016, the foreign tourists of the capital city chose this place as the most popular destination of Seoul which is almost obvious considering all those restaurants and (souvenir) shops that had been built on the top of the building. Not to mention the hundreds of love locks that were left behind by cheesy couples over the years, making the Namsan Tower one of the most romantic locations of the capital city.

Jeju Island

Just like the Namsan Tower, Jeju Island is also one of the hidden paradises in South Korea, a perfect destination for couples. After all, they call it ‘The Island of Gods’ for a reason. If the lush scenery itself wasn’t enough to make a honeymoon memorable, those who desire to have tanned skin can enjoy the sunlight on stunning beaches any summer day. Of course, Jeju Island isn’t lack of entertaining places either. Different kind of theme parks wait for the zealous visitors. One specifically is full of glass sculptures not so far from the Seongeup Folklore Village where one with enthusiasm can sink into the depth of the local culture.

Jinhae

In springtime, during the festival of the blooming cherry blossoms, Jinhae is definitely one of the most beautiful cities of South Korea if not the most beautiful. Although, the ten-day-long celebration is much more than rosy petals observed by amused faces, mouths slightly open. This time around the citizens of Jinhae entertain their visitors –  every single person out of the two millions who travels to the festival from one year to the other – with parades and cultural performances.

MAGYAR A kelet rejtett kincsei

Manapság a dél-koreai kultúra majdhogynem ugyanolyan népszerű, mint az egykoron mindenki által csodált amerikai álom is volt, így hát nem nagy csoda, hogy ez a látnivalókban gazdag ország az utóbbi években megannyi utazót csalogatott a bűvkörébe. Hiszen legyen szó akár modern városokról vagy lélegzetelállító természeti jelenségekről, itt mindenki megtalálja azt az élményt, ami képes felejthetetlenné tenni egy nyaralást.

Szöul, Namsan-torony

A Namsan-torony vagy más néven Szöul-torony egy televízió- és rádiótorony, ami a koreai főváros, Szöul közepén található, a Namsan hegy tetején. Csekély 236 méterével ez a város második legmagasabb pontja, ahonnan gyönyörű rálátás nyílik a környező kerületekre. 2016-ban a fővárosba látogató külföldi turisták ezt a helyet nevezték meg a legnépszerűbb úticélnak, ami a torony tetején található éttermeknek és boltoknak köszönhetően nem nagy meglepetés. Nem is beszélve arról a többszáz lakatról, amit szerelmespárok tucatjai hagytak maguk mögött az évek során, ezzel az egyik legromantikusabb hellyé varázsolva az építmény tetejét.

Jeju sziget

Akárcsak a Namsan-torony, a Jeju sziget is maga a paradicsom a szerelmes párok számára, nem hiába hívják az Istenek szigetének. Ha a buja természeti látványvilág nem lenne már önmagában is elég ahhoz, hogy felejthetetlenné tegye a friss házasok mézesheteit, az áhított nyári barnaság után vágyakozó párok kábító strandokon élvezhetik a napsütést. Emellett persze Jeju szigete szórakoztató helyszínekből sem szenved hiányt. Különféle, egyedi témák köré csoportosuló vidámparkok várják a lelkes látogatókat, mint például az az üvegszobrokkal teli park, ami mellett elhaladva bárki elmerülhet a helyi kultúrában a Seongeup Folklore Village kapu mögött.

Jinhae

Tavasszal, a cseresznyefa virágzásának szentelt fesztivál idején, Jinhae határozottan egy a dél-koreai városok legszebbjei körül, ha nem kimondottan a legszebb. Azonban a tíz napig tartó ünnepség több mint rózsaszín virágszirmok nyitott szájjal való csodálása. A város lakói ilyenkor egy hatalmas parádéval, kulturális előadásokkal várják a látogatókat. Méghozzá mind a két milliót – ugyanis átlagosan ennyien látogatnak el a városba a fesztivál alatt.

Holiday special - Christmas movie list

If Christmas, than movie shower. There is nothing better than warming up for Christmas with watching movies while sitting on the couch in the Christmas Tree’s lights with a cup of something very very hot.

If we want some romance then the movie Love Actually is a perfect choice for us. This story is set in London in Christmas time. There are several storylines, but they are all related and they interweave at the climax of the story. This movie is wonderful because of several reasons. The struggling married couple’ love and respect for each other, the children’s heart-warming love, a ray of hope after a great loss thanks to a new relationship, and the forbidden romance with an influential man all appear in the movie in paralell. But it is not that sappy as we would think, with a brilliant cast of British actors! Another all-time favourite in this „category” is The Holiday. Thanks to Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jack Black in this movie we can see funny and real love stories, which find the young characters who are struggling with their lives right at Christmas time.

The two movies above are listed as some of the USA’s most popular Christmas movies. But the real leaders for them are Grinch and the Elf, which are also popular in Hungary as well. Both of them are filled with humor, but also with moral. They display to the children that there can be tough situations in life, it also can be that someone is sullen, rejecting and malicious, but everyone is able to change, and everyone is capable of doing small miracles. Dow e need more for Christmas?

And of course there are movies that are not really about Christmas, even though because of their atmosphere – or the lots of snow – they became favourites and basic items to watch during Christmas. Eight Below is just like that. There is no human being that would not watch through this creation, and would not cry a lot. Snow Buddies is totally different – even if it is also about dogs. This movie is more like nice and funny than harrowing. A really pleasent Christmas activity.

And than let’s stay with animals. Racing Stripes was a basic Christmas movie for several years in Hungary. A movie that is cute and full of moral about love and endurance. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Well this really does not have anything to do with Christmas but the peculiar world of this movie and its ending makes this creation worth to be on our Christmas movie-list.

Watching some tales can be a perfect activity for families at Christmas. Balto, which is about a real story, can be a good choice. The half husky, half wolf sled dog, Balto departs with some other dogs to a very dangerous journey, to save the children suffering with diphteria in the Alaskan town which is locked because of the severe winter conditions. Exciting, harrowing story about courage, self-sacrifice and the power of community. Crying and moral are fully guaranteed! Or there is Frozen, which is neither about Christmas, but thanks to its atmophere and message – the „sisterly” love defeats anything – it perfectly matches the holiday. The Polar Express is a bit different than the previous two tales. Firstly, because this is totally about Christmas. Secondly, because it shows a totally different world – also beacuse this is a live-acton animation movie. A nice story about how Santa works on Christmas Day and how life is in Lapland with the elves int he gift-factory.

When we wrote about Finland we mentioned the movie Christmas Story, which is a Christmas basic all around the world. we would recommend another Finnish creation, which is the Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. This is a darker version of Christmas idyll. This stimulus-rich movie can be perfect to shake adults up from the Christmas laziness, while it does not disrupt us from the Christmas spirit.

And the Christmas classic: Home Alone. It is such a basic movie on Christmas that when some years ago in Hungary it was not on the TV programme, everyone was really upset. Since then, the three parts are always played ont he three nights of Christmas. There is no need to explain why it is like that. Ono ne hand, this is a real family story. On the other hand, it is funny, we can laugh a lot on the child-logic, which sometimes oversees the adult’s. And thirdly, it is full of moral.

And we would like to finish with two new Christmas movies from 2018. One is not toher than The Nutcracker and the Four Realms which retells the story of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s The Nutcracker and the Mouse King and the ballet of Tchaikovsky. The story is set in London, on Christmas, which starts with a sentimental family storyline. Clara’s (Mackenzie Foy) mother died, buta he left behind Christmas gifts for her children. Clara’S gift is a boksz, which leads her into a magical world. In this world there is a war, and Clara herself a victim of betrayal. Buti n the end everything gets better, Clara becomes reconciled with her father, giving an idyllic ending to the story. Candied, but efficient Christmas story, which builds on real classics with a quite good cast – among other Keire Knightley, Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman are in the movie. As a novelty it should be added to our list!

Another novelty is The Grinch. Now the story of Dr. Seuss gets alive as an animated movie. And it does quite well! Cute animals, a peculiar world where a dedicated girl’s faith finally changes Grinch’s attitude towards the world they are living in, the people, celebration and, of course, towards Christmas.

MAGYAR Karácsonyi filmnézős lista

Ha karácsony, akkor filmrengeteg. Nincs is jobb, mint a karácsonyfa fényei mellett a kanapén egy forró itallal a pléd alatt hangolódjunk rá és merüljünk el még jobban az ünnepi hangulatban.

Ha egy kis karácsonyi romantikázásra vágyunk, akkor nekünk találták ki az Igazából Szerelem című filmet. Ez a történet karácsony idején játszódik, Londonban. A cselekmény több szálon fut, melyek mindegyike összefügg, s a történet csúcspontján mind össze is ér. Azért csodálatos ez a film, mert a küszködő házaspár egymás iránti szeretete és tisztelete, a gyermekek szívmelengető szerelme, egy veszteség utáni reménysugár egy új kapcsolattal és a befolyásos emberrel való tiltott románc mind párhuzamosan jelenik meg ebben a filmben. De korántsem annyira csöpögősen, mint azt gondolnánk, egy fantasztikus brit színészi felhozatallal! A másik örök kedvenc ebben a kategóriában a Holiday. Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet és Jack Black főszereplésével vicces, hús-vér szerelmi történeteket láthatunk, melyek pont karácsonykor találják meg az így, vagy úgy, de életükkel küszködő fiatal főszereplőket.

Amerika kedvenc karácsonyi filmjei közé sorolható a fenti két mű is, ám itt mégis inkább a Mi a manó és a Grincs tarol azok közül az alkotások közül, amiket mi, magyarok is szívesen nézegetünk karácsony délelőttönként. Mindkettő vicces, ám rendkívül tanulságos, mely a gyerekek számára bemutatja, hogy bizony akadnak nehézségek az életben, az is lehet, hogy valaki mindig mogorva, visszautasító és rosszindulatú, mégis bárki képes a változásra, bárki képes kisebb csodák megtételére. Kell ennél több karácsonyra?!

És persze vannak olyan filmek is, amelyek nem feltétlenül a karácsonyról szólnak, mégis hangulatuk miatt – vagy a rengeteg hó következtében – kedvencekké, minden évben megnézendő alapdarabokká nőtték ki magukat. Ilyen a Kutyahideg című film. Nincs olyan ember, aki ne nézné végig szívesen ezt a szeretettel teljes alkotást, s ne sírna egy kiadósat. A Hókölykök esetében pont az ellenkezője történik, annak ellenére, hogy szintén kutyákról szól ez a film. Azonban ez sokkal inkább aranyos és vicces, mint szívszaggató. Igazi kellemes karácsonyi elfoglaltság.

És akkor maradjunk az állatoknál. A Pata-csata is hosszú évekig alapdarabnak számított Magyarországon a szent esti műsorfelhozatalban. Aranyos és tanulságos film a szeretetről és kitartásról. Charlie és a csokigyár. Nos, ennek tényleg semmi köze a karácsonyhoz, de a film különleges világa és végkimenetele egyértelműen méltóvá teszi ezt az alkotást arra, hogy a karácsonyi filmezős listánkon szerepeljen.

Tökéletes családi program lehet egy-egy mese karácsony idején. Jó választás lehet a Balto, amely egy igaz történetet dolgoz fel. A félig husky, félig farkas szánhúzó kutya, Balto egy rendkívül veszélyes küldetésbe vág bele társaival, hogy megmentse a hóvihar miatt elzárt alaszkai településeken diftériával küzdő gyerekeket. Izgalmas, szívszorító történet a bátorságról, az önfeláldozásról és a közösség erejéről. A sírás és a rengeteg tanulság garantált! Vagy a Jégvarázs, ami szintén nem a karácsonyról szól, de hangulatában és üzenetében – a testvéri szeretet minden felett – igazán illik az ünnephez. A Polar Expressz egy kissé más jellegű, mint az előző két mese. Egyrészt azért, mert ez abszolút a karácsonyról szól. Másrészt azért mert egy teljesen más világot mutat be, egyrészt azért is, mert animációs filmről van szó. Kedves történet arról, hogy a Télapó hogyan dolgozik karácsony napján, s milyen az élet Lapföldön a manókkal az ajándékgyárban.

Finnország kapcsán már írtunk a Karácsony története című filmről, mely világszerte egy karácsonyi alapdarabnak számít. Ehhez ajánlanánk egy másik finn alkotást is, melynek címe: Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. Ez egy sötétebb változata a karácsonyi idillnek. Ez a sokkal ingergazdagabb film tökéletes lehet arra, hogy a felnőtteket kicsit felrázza a karácsonyi lustálkodásból, míg az ünnepi hangulatból tulajdonképpen nem zökkent ki minket.

És az elmaradhatatlan karácsonyi klasszikus, a Reszkessetek, betörők!. Olyannyira elmaradhatatlan, hogy amikor néhány évvel ezelőtt egyik csatorna sem tűzte műsorra Magyarországon, mindenki egy emberként emelt hangot, s fejezi ki nemtetszését. Azóta zavartalanul minden évben lejátszák a három részt karácsony három estéjén. De azt talán nem kell különösebben magyarázni, hogy ez miért is van így. Először is, igazi karácsonyi családi történet. Másodszor humoros, jókat lehet kacagni a gyermeki logikán, mely sokszor a felnőttekét is felülmúlja. Harmadszor pedig telis-tele van tanulságokkal.

És a legvégére hagytuk a 2018-as év két legújabb karácsonyi alkotását. Az egyik nem más mint Csajkovszkij híres balettját, és E.T.A. Hoffmann A diótörő és az egérkirály című meséjét újraálmodó: A diótörő és a négy birodalom című film. A történet karácsonykor játszódik, mely egy érzelmes családi szállal indul. Clara (Mackenzie Foy) édesanyja lehunyt, de a gyerekeknek hagyott hátra karácsonyra ajándékokat. Clara ajándéka egy dobozka, mely egy elvarázsolt világba jutatja őt át. Itt bizony háború dúl, s Clara árulás áldozatául is esik. Ám a végén minden jóra fordul, Clara édesapjával is kibékül, idilli befejezést adva a történetnek. Mézesmázos, de hatásos karácsonyi történet, ami igazi klasszikusokra építkezik, egy nem rossz szereposztással – többek között Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren és Morgan Freeman is a szereplők között van. Újdonságként megéri felírni a listánkra!

A másik újdonság: A grincs. Ezúttal mese formájában elevenedik meg Dr. Seuss története, s nem is akárhogy. Aranyos állatkák, egy különleges világ, melyben egy elszánt kislány hite végül megváltoztatja Grincs hozzáállását a világhoz, az emberekhez, az ünnepléshez és, természetesen, a karácsonyhoz. Holiday Special - Christmas feast around the world

In Hungary only the Christmas Eve feast has – lets say – limits. At this time almost every Hunagrian family eat fish soup as a starter, and as the main course stuffed cabbage. To finish the dinner mostly everyone has walnot or poppyseed beigli (roll) as dessert. Most of the countries have similar traditions and typical Christmas meals. Now we brought some of these as appetizers. Lets see if we can inspire you befire Christmas to try some new and exciting dishes.

Main courses

The Mexican festive menu has several dishes. In Mexico they eat pozole as a starter, which is made from hominy and meat. Then roasted turkey and pork come first as main courses. After them they have tamales (made of masa which is steamed in a corn husk filled with meat and vegetables), the bacalao (rich ragu made of salted, dried cod) and the romeritos (made of mole sauce, potatoes, dried shrimps and sprigs of a wild plant known as seepweed), completing it with the Christmas salad (called ensalada de nochebuena: consisting of fruits and seeds with a rich dressing).

In Bangladesh, being near to the Indian culture, they make different meat and vegtable curries and these are served with rice and vegtables.

In Denmark on the 24 of December people traditionally eat roasted duck (or goose/pork), which is served with boiled potatoes, sweetpotatoes, red cabbage, beetroot and cranberry jam. And the day after, when they visit other family members they eat open-faced sandwiches on ryebread, called smorrebrod.

In Greece roasted lamb (maybe pork) is the typical Christmas dinner, and as side dish they make some spinach and cheese pies, called spanakopita and tiropita.

Desserts

This is a lot wider and more exciting field in every country’s cuisine, so we were in quite a hard situation figuring out which Christmas desserts should we show you. Here comes our selection!

Who does not know Italy’s Christmas dessert, the panettone. This is a quite simple yeast cake in which we can put a lot of dried and candied fruits. A really nourishing sweet.

In Bangladesh we can find some mouth-watering festive specialities. They most commonly make pitha (made from riceflour, milk, coconut and molasses) and payesh (rice pudding) for their communal Christmas feast.

In Mexico they love to make some buñuelos for Christmas, which can be best described as a very flat plate – like crepes – which is fried crunchy in oil and then they are dipped in cinnamon-sugar.

And if we talk about Latin culture then we cannot leave out the Spanish Epiphany dessert, the rosca de reyes. The rosca de reyes is a simple sponge cake-like sweet which is filled with marzipan or some kind of nutcream, and finally they sprinkle this giant ring road with some dried or candied fruits.

In a lot of countries gingerbread is an unmissable part of the Christmas baking. In Hugary we also have a massive tradition of baking and decorating gingerbread figures. But lets be honest, this is mostly the USA’s business, and this tradition also departed from there.

And mentioning the Anglo-Saxon culture, Great Britain also has a traditional Christmas dessert that went quite viral in the world. This is the Christmas cake which we could not leave out from here. This cake has a marzipan coat and under that there hides a very very rich fruity interior. Its flavour resembles a bit to gingerbread because of the spices used. And, of course, the sticky toffee pudding also had to be listed here. We also made this sweet earlier when we wrote about Scotland – mostly there it is an unmissable Christmas dessert. MAGYAR Karácsonyi ételek a világ körül

Magyarországon leginkább a Szenteste során elfogyasztott családi vacsorának vannak megszabott keretei. Ilyenkor szinte minden magyar család halászlevet eszik kezdésként, majd jöhet a töltött káposzta főételként. Végül mindezt egy diós és mákos bejglivel szokás leöblíteni. A legtöbb országnak vannak hasonló hagyományai, tipikusan karácsonyi fogásai. Most ezekből hozunk egy kis ízelítőt, hátha még így karácsony előtt sikerül inspirálnunk titeket egy-két újdonság kipróbálására.

Főételek

A mexikói karácsonyi menü az egyik legtöbb elemből álló. Mexikóban kezdésként pozole-t esznek, ami egy szárított, áztatott kukoricamagból készült leves. Majd sült pulyka és disznó következik. Ezután pedig jöhetnek a csak Mexikóra jellemző ételek: a tamales (kukoricalevélben párolt kukoricalisztből készült tésztából és húsból, esetleg zöldségekből áll), a bacalao (sózott szárított tőkehalfiléből készült gazdag ragu) és a romeritos (mole szószos krumpliból és szárított garnélarák falatokból álló étel, melyet a suaeda/spanyolul romeritos növény ágacskáival ízesítenek), kiegészítve a karácsonyi salátával (ensalada de nochebuena: gyümölcsökből és magvakból álló saláta gazdag öntettel).

Bangladesben, Indiához közeli kultúraként, különféle zöldség és csirke curryket készítenek, melyet rizzsel és zöldségekkel tálalnak.

Dániában december 24-én általában sült kacsát esznek (lehet liba vagy disznó is), melyet főtt édesburgonyával és lilakáposztával, céklával, valamint tőzegáfonyából készült dzsemmel tálalnak. Majd másnap, amikor a család összegyűlik egy ebédre, melyen különböző rozskenyeres szendvicseket esznek (nincs a tetejükön egy második kenyérszelet).

Görögországban pedig a leginkább a sült bárány (esetleg disznó) a tipikus karácsonyi vacsora, melyhez spenótos és sajtos pitéket készítenek köret gyanánt.

Desszertek

Ez egy jóval szélesebb és izgalmasabb terep minden ország konyhájában, így igencsak nehéz helyzetben voltunk, hogy a rengeteg karácsonyi finomság közül mégis melyikeket mutassuk be nektek. Íme a válogatásunk!

Ki ne ismerné Olaszország karácsonyi édességét, a panettonét. Ez egy nagyon egyszerű kalács, melybe aszalt vagy kandírozott gyümölcsöket dobálhatunk. Igazi tápláló édesség.

Bangladesben is találkozhatunk ínycsiklandó ünnepi különlegességekkel. Itt általában a pitha-t (rizslisztből, tejből, kókuszból és melaszból készült édesség), valamint a payesh-t (rizspuding) készítik a közös karácsonyi lakomához.

Mexikóban előszeretettel készítik el a buñuelost karácsonyra, amely leginkább egy nagy lapos tálként írható le, melyet, miután roppanósra sült az olajban, cukorba és fahéjba forgatnak.

Ha már latin kultúra, akkor a spanyolok vízkereszti süteményükről sem feledkezhetünk meg, a rosca de reyesről. A rosca de reyes is egy egyszerűbb piskóta/kuglóf tésztából készül, melyet vagy marcipánnal, vagy valamilyen dióféle krémesített változatával töltenek meg, s végül aszalt vagy kandírozott gyümölcsökkel szórják meg ezt a nagy körgyűrűt.

A mézeskalács sok helyen elmaradhatatlan része a karácsonyi sütés-főzésnek. Magyarországon is nagy tradíciója van a mézeskalács figurák sütésének és díszítésének, de ez elsősorban az USA-ra jellemző, s onnan is indult eredetileg ez a már-már nemzetközivé vált karácsonyi tradíció.

És az angolszász kultúrát emlegetve a Nagy-Britanniából indult karácsonyi hagyományos süteményt, a christmas cake-et is muszáj volt belevennünk a listába. Ez a marcipán bevonatos torta egy gazdag gyümölcsös piskótát rejt, mely íze, a fűszerek miatt, enyhén a mézeskalácsra emlékeztet. És természetesen a sticky toffee puddingnak is itt kell szerepelnie, melyet mi magunk is elkészítettünk nem is olyan rég Skócia kapcsán – leginkább ott elmaradhatatlan része a karácsonyi lakomáknak ez az édesség -, a receptet Facebook oldalunkon találjátok!

Holiday special - Christmas celebration around the world

In Hungary the most intimate christmas celebration is held on the 24 December. On this night the narrow family circle gets together for a dinner. and after the dinner it is time for the gifts, which are brought by baby Jesus. After the family gathering, most of the people go to the Midninght Mass. On the 25 and 26 December family members and friends are visiting each other to spend some time together alongside with a Christmas feast. On other parts of the world the Christmas celebrations look differently. In this article we would like to show you some of the most pleasant and heart-warming ways of celebrating.

In Spain, for example, Christmas is not widely celebrated. Instead of it they have gathering on Epiphany, 6 January. The Three Kings – Balthazar, Caspar and Melchior – bring gifts to the good children, and a piece of coal – nowadays made out of sugar – to the bad ones. The Spanish kiddos are waiting the Wise Men with a glass of Cognac, some walnuts and satsuma.

One of the most exciting thing about Greece is that children got presents not only at Christmas, but at Epiphany as well. Other peculiarity of the Greek celebration is that the tradition of having a Christmas Tree is quite new in this country. Before that they had decorated boats. Now having a boat as well as a tree is becoming more popular.

In Finland the 24 December has a ritual character. Int he morning everyone eats Rice porridge with plum fruit juice. Then the tree is bought – if it has not been the day before – and is decorated. Int he afternoon the family watch the TV together. After that – as it gets dark at 3 pm – it is now traditional to go to cemeteries and visit the graves of family members. Candles in hanging lanterns are left around the graves, so the whole cemetery is alight with glowing lantenrs shining in the snow creating a winter wonderland. And then, int he evening there comes the well deserved relaxation in a sauna!

Norway possibly has the most bizarre Christmas tradition. On Christmas Eve everyone hids their brooms to the most cramped nest of the house. This tradition goes way back to centuries. Back then people thought that witches and the evil souls are coming out on Christmas Eve, who stole brooms to ride on them.

The Yule Lads – troll-like characters – visit the children across Iceland over the 13 nights leading up to Christmas. For each night of Yuletide, children place their shoes by the window and a different Yule lad visits leaving gifts for good children and rotting potatoes for the naughty ones. All Yule Lads have different names, according to the type of trouble they like to cause. In Iceland, just like in Finland, families go to the cemeteries to leave lampions and candles at the graves of their loved ones, lighting up the snowy environment.

In the Philippines the Giant Lantern Festival is held each year ont he Saturday before Christmas Eve, which attracts people from around the world. This festival has a competition miliő? as everyone is trying to build the most elaborate lantern. Originally the lanterns were simple creations around half a metre in diameter, made from Japanese origami paper and lit by candle. Today, the lanterns are made from a variety of materials and have grown to around six metres in size and they are illuminated by electric bulbs.

In Australia Christmas is int he hottest season. Even so they are unflinchingly celebrating the birth of Jesus, although a bit differently. Firstly, Santa is not coming to Australia on reindeers, but uses kangoroos instead. The families and friends have gatherings ont he beach where they have barbecue. The Christmas feast mostly consists of fishes, seafood, prawns and lobsters.

In Bangladesh the number of Christians is very low, even so the 25 December is a public holiday in the country. In Bangladesh people not necessarily celebrate Christmas with their families. Becauese in the rural areas, after the church services, it is traditional that everybody has Christmas dinner together at the church.

In Japan Christmas is not really a festivity, as the population does not belong to Christianity. But Western traditions truly had an impact on this country so some Christmas traditions – such as gift-giving – are spreading among Japanese. For example, on Christmas Eve young couples go on a romantic walk to the city where streets and squares are illuminated by Christmas lights, while families have Christmas dinner together. But this dinner is not really a traditional one. They eat fried chicken, kentucky fried chicken from KFC! To take advantage of this new tradition, KFC is making a whole festive menu each year.

MAGYAR Karácsonyi ünneplés a világ körül

Magyarországon a legmeghittebb karácsonyi ünneplés december 24-én, szent este van. Ekkor összegyűlik a szűk család egy közös vacsorára, majd ezután jöhet az ajándékozás. Az ajándékokat a kis Jézuska hozza a gyerekeknek. Végül pedig a legtöbben az éjféli misére is elmennek. Ezután december 25-én és 26-án a tágabb család, barátok és ismerősök látogatják meg egymást egy kis közös evésre és időtöltésre. A világ más tájain ez az ünneplés, bár különböző mértékben, de máshogy néz ki. Ebben az írásunkban a különböző kellemes és szívmelengető ünneplési módokból szeretnénk néhányat bemutatni.

Spanyolországban például nem decemberben, hanem Vízkereszt napján ünneplik a karácsonyt. Január hatodikán, a három királyok, Gáspár, Menyhért és Boldizsár hozzák a jó gyerekeknek az édességeket és ajándékokat, míg a rosszaknak egy széndarabot – manapság széndarabnak kinéző cukrot. A gyerekek pedig egy-egy pohár konyakkal, dióval és mandarinnal várják a keleti bölcseket.

Görögország esetében az egyik legizgalmasabb dolog nem más, mint hogy nem csak karácsonykor kapnak ajándékot a gyerekek, de Vízkeresztkor is. A másik különlegessége a görögök ünneplésének pedig az, hogy a feldíszített karácsonyfa csak nem olyan régen terjedt el az országban. Egészen addig kis hajókat díszítettek fel, mely szokás a karácsonyfa térhódítása mellett sem tűnt el.

Finnországban külön rituáléként fogják fel a december 24-i ünnepnapot. Reggel mindenki rizs kását eszik és szilva levet iszik. Ezután megveszik a fát – lehet, hogy már az előző napon megvették – és feldíszítik azt. Délután közös tévézés következik, majd – mivel már délután három órakor besötétedik – hagyománnyá vált, hogy a családok ellátogatnak a temetőbe, s elhunyt rokonaik sírjánál lampionokat gyújtanak, melyek a hófehér temetőt egy csodálatos téli világgá varázsolják. Majd este jöhet a jól megérdemelt pihentető szaunázás!

A legbizarrabb karácsonyi hagyományt nagy valószínűséggel Norvégia tudhatja magáénak. Ugyanis Szent Este szinte mindenki eldugja a seprűjét a ház legeldugottabb zugába. Ez a szokás évszázadokkal korábbra vezethető vissza. Akkoriban úgy gondolták, hogy a boszorkányok és a gonosz szellemek jelentek meg Szent Este és seprűket loptak, amivel aztán repkedhettek.

A karácsonyt megelőző 13 nap során minden este egy-egy troll- vagy manószerű lény látogatja meg az izlandi gyerekeket. A yulék vagy jólasveinárok a jó gyerekek ablakokba kirakott cipőibe csempésznek kis ajándékokat, míg a rosszakéba rohadt krumplit tesznek. Mindegyik trollnak megvan a maga neve, mely jól mutatja, hogy általában milyen rosszaságokat szoktak csinálni. Ezen kívül, a finnekhez hasonlóan, az izlandiak is kijárnak a temetőbe, hogy lampionokkal, gyertyákkal világítsák meg elhunyt szeretteik sírjait, s a hófödte temetőt.

A Fülöp-szigeteken minden karácsony előtti szombaton megrendezik a 11 falu között folyó óriás lampion versenyt, ami mára már egy világszintű fesztivállá nőtte ki magát. Mindenki igyekszik a legszebb, legnagyobb, legdíszesebb és fényesebb lampiont megépíteni. Eleinte gyertyával világították meg a japán origami papírból készült, fél méter átmérőjű építményeket. Ám manapság hat méteres lampionokat láthatunk végigvonulni az utcákon, melyeket többféle anyagból készítenek el, a megvilágításhoz pedig elektromos égőket használnak.

Ausztráliában a karácsony pont az év legmelegebb időszakára esik. Ennek ellenére itt is rendíthetetlenül ünneplik Jézus születését, csak éppen egy kicsit másképp. Egyrészt a Mikulás nem szánon és rénszarvasokkal érkezik a játékokkal, hanem kangurun. És a családi, baráti összejövetelek és közös evések is némileg más formában történik. A legtöbb esetben mindenki levonul a tengerpartra és ott grilleznek, barbecueznak, elsősorban halat és tengeri herkentyűket esznek.

Bangladesben igen csekély a keresztény vallásúak száma, mégis ünnepnapnak számítanak a karácsony napjai. A keresztény lakosság ünnepi misére megy, majd ezt követően jöhet a közös lakoma, de nem otthon, s nem feltétlenül a szűk családdal. Japánban a karácsony nem számít ünnepnek, hiszen a lakosság nem keresztény vallású. Ám a nyugat hatására itt is egyre inkább teret nyernek a karácsonyi programok. Szent Este például a párok romantikáznak, elmennek egy esti sétára, hogy megnézzék a karácsonyi fényekben úszó utcákat, míg a családok egy közös étkezéssel ünnepelnek. De nem akármilyennel! A japánok sült csirkét esznek, méghozzá a KFC-ből. Kapva az újdonsült hagyományon a KFC minden évben külön karácsonyi menüt állít össze Japánban!

Movie recommendation: Worlds Apart - Greece

Greece, beautiful places and sights, love and three different stories. Do we need more?

This week, we chose the Greek movie, Worlds Apart, that takes place in the modern era’s Athens. The film is an analogy that tells us three different love stories, each one of them is showing us Greece that is under the socio-economic crisis. Three stories for three different generations. Beside their obvious financial hardships, there is an immigration crisis too that makes the everyday life of Greek people miserable.

The first one is like the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet – Farris who comes from the Near East meets a Greek girl, Daphne. One night, he saves her when she gets in trouble and they fall head over heels in love. The protagonist of the second story is Giorgos who doesn’t have a choice but fire more and more of his employees. That’s when he meets Elise whose spirit changes the way, Giorgos sees the world in its core. In the third story, it’s Maria who gets the spotlight. She is a housewife with financial problems who meets a German immigrant, played by the Oscar winner J. K. Simmons. This part of the movie presents a way to overcome hardships such as different cultures, different languages and old age.

It might sound a bit cliche, cheesy and everything but Worlds Apart describes love as something extraordinary – a special someone will always help us find wonders in life when the world turns us down, pushing the air out of our lungs.

MAGYAR Filmajánló: Határtalan szerelem

Görögország, gyönyörű tájak, szerelem, három különböző történet. Kell ennél több?

A Görögországot körbejáró hetünkben a Határtalan szerelem (angol címén a Worlds Apart) filmet ajánljuk nektek, ami a jelenkorban játszódik Athénban. A film egy analógia, amely három szerelmes történetet mesél el nekünk. A súlyos társadalmi-gazdasági válságon keresztül menő Görögországot mutatja be a három történet. A pénzügyi gondok mellett a bevándorlásválság is megnehezíti eme szép ország lakóinak életét. A három történet három nemzedék szerelmét foglalja magába.

Az első történetben egy Rómeó és Júlia sztorit láthatunk: a közel-keletről érkező Farris megismerkedik Daphne-vel, egy görög lánnyal, akit megment egy éjjel, mikor támadás éri a lányt, és egymásba szeretnek. A második történet főhőse Giorgos, aki kénytelen vállalkozásában egyre több embert elbocsátani. Ekkor ismeri meg Eliset, akinek mentalitása teljesen megváltoztatja Giorgos gondolkodását. A harmadik történet középpontjában Maria áll, egy pénzügyi gondokkal küzdő háziasszony, aki megismerkedik egy német bevándorlóval (az Oscar-díjnyertes J.K. Simmons-szal). A harmadik történet a kulturális, nyelvi és öregkor akadályainak leküzdését mutatja be.

Kicsit lejáratott és ezerszer hallott szövegnek tűnhet, de a Határtalan szerelem valóban azt prezentálja, hogy a szerelem, egy csodálatos társ az élet legnehezebb pillanatain is képes átsegíteni, legyen az bármilyen probléma.

Wonderful landscapes of fairy tales – Greece

When we dream about a trip to Greece, we are always daydreaming about the sea and the sunlight. Well, of course sometimes we also remember the ancient ruins of Athens. But we have to admit there is a lot more in Greece to see. Now we try to highlight it in this article.

Kastellorizo

Kastellorizo is the smallest and among the prettiest of the inhabited island in the Dodecanese. This island can be reached by plane or by ferry from Rhodes. The multicolored, neoclassical houses welcome everyone in the harbour. Boats are going to the neighbouring islands. Ifwe decidet o stay here, we will have to swim off rocks. But all this does not even count, as this place itself isthe island of Mediterranean tranquility.

Epirus and Karavostasi

Thanks to its relative inaccessibility and lack of sandy beaches, Epirus remained on of the most untouched region of Greece. This area is the most montenious int he whole country, with landscapes reminiscent of Scotland and with mountain villages rival to Provence. Of course there is a gloriously unspoiled coastline as well, then add to this a densely forested landscape and lonely clifftop monasteries. If we fancy to go to a beach when in this region, then Karavostasi is the perfect choice. An appelling 500 metres of sand and the blue sea are waiting for us. From here we can also see the southern tip of Corfu on the horizon.

Amorgos

Amorgos has never been as fashionable as its famous Cycladic neighbours, Mykonos and Santorini, butdespite this fact it is reallyworth to visit this place. The old mule tracks are perfect for hiking, which noone can resist after getting to see the beautiful, mountainous inner landspace. The biggest spot of this island is the Hozoviatassa monastery, which is the second oldest in Greece, as it was built in 1017.

Nafplio

This city os one of the wonders of Peloponnese, which was the capital city of modern Greece until King Otto chose to move to Athens. In Nafplio there is a perfect blend of Venetian and Ottoman architectural style, and with this, the atmophere of the old town is truly special. And if we are talking about the old town, then we must mention the two forts that are protectively looking down at the old town, both of themare recommended to discover! And Bourtzi, the island castle rises picture-perfect in the harbour bay. Thisis the perfect place if we would like to get lost in the narrow streets which are filled with Mediterranean air, jasmine and bougainvillea.

MAGYAR Mesébe illő csodás tájak

Amikor egy görög utazásról álmodozunk, mindig a tengerről és a napsütésről ábrándozunk. Na persze néha eszünkbe jut Athén is a ókori építményeivel. De be kell látnunk, Görögország még ezeknél is sokkal több és sokkal szebb. Következő írásunkkal erre szeretnénk rávilágítani.

Kasztelórizo

Kasztelórizo a legapróbb, és az egyik legszebb a Dodekonészosz-szigetcsoport lakott szigetei közül. A szigetet vagy repülővel, vagy komppal lehet megközelíteni Rodosz szigetéről. A kikötőben neoklasszicista építészetben gyönyörködhetünk. Valamint kis hajókkal szállítják az embereket a közeli kisebb szigetek strandjaira, ha mi mégis maradánk, akkor köves partra számítsunk. De mindez eltörpül amellett a tény mellett, hogy ez a sziget maga a mediterrán nyugalom.

Epirusz és Karavostasi

Annak köszönhetően, hogy Epirus nem bővelkedik homokos strandokkal, és relatíve nehéz is megközelíteni, mindmáig Görögország egyik legérintetlenebb területéről beszélünk. Ez az ország leghegyesebb vidéke, Skóciát idéző tájával és kis hegyi falvaival, amik még Provence-t is versenyre hívnák. Persze gyönyörű érintetlen partvidékkel is büszkélkedhet a terület, no meg sűrű, zöld erdőkkel és magányos monostorokkal a hegyek tetején. Ha ezen a vidéken járunk és kedvünk támadna strandra is menni, akkor Karavostasi a tökéletes választás. Itt 500 méter hosszú homokos partszakasz vár ránk és a gyönyörű kék tenger, ahonnan Korfu déli csücskét is megpillanthatjuk a horizonton.

Amorgósz

Bár Amorgósz közel sem annyira ismert, mint a Kükládok többi tagja, Mykonos vagy Santorini, de legalább annyira megéri ellátogatni ide is. Az öszvérek járta régi utak tökéletesek a túrázáshoz, aminek nem igazán tud nemet mondani az ember, ha meglátja a gyönyörű, belső hegyes tájat. A sziget legnagyobb látványossága a Hozoviatissa monostor, mely Görögország második legrégebbi monostora, 1017-ben építették.

Návplio

A Peloponnészoszi-félsziget egyik csodája ez a város, amely Görögország fővárosa volt mindaddig, amíg Otto király át nem tette székhelyét Athénba. Návplioban tökéletesen keveredik a velencei és a Török Birodalom építészeti stílusa, ezzel válik igazán különlegessé az óváros hangulata. És ha már óváros, két erődítmény vigyázó szeme is letekint erre a városrészre, mindegyiket érdemes felfedezni! Valamint a Burci-erőd, egy sziget kastély teszi festőivé a kilátást a kikötőből. Tökéletes hely, ha egy kis időre el akarunk veszni a mediterrán levegővel, jázminnal és murvafürttel telt szűk kis utcák között.
