I’m supposed to be working rn, calling people and shit, but instead I’m going to make a list for y’all. It’s another one of those random ones, I revealed myself to be one of the anons in @kwonzoshi​ ‘s ask box and the word ‘Daddy’ came up in reference to Payu so I just decided to give you a list of the BL characters that I KNOW (have a feeling) have been called ‘Daddy’ in their lives once or twice. I’m not a k!nk specialist, this post is just for fun and please don’t take it too seriously.

Payu from Love in the Air. No one can convince me that Payu does not have Rain calling him Daddy on a consistent basis. Be fucking forreal. The reprimanding, and punishments, the coddling, the constant money spending. He fixed Rain’s car for free. Daddy. Rain’s daddy.

Kang Yohan from The Devil Judge. Every single thing about that man screams ‘Daddy’. The way he just let Gaon move into his estate and DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HIM SHOWING GAON ON OFF LIKE A KEPT BOY AT THAT FANCY ELITIST PARTY! The age gap solidifies it more. His name is Daddy Judge and you better put some respeck on it.

Tharn from TharnType 2: 7 Years of Love. I’m not here to defend TT because it was def a red flag series as a whole. But NO ONE is going to tell me that Tharn was not in full blown Sugar Daddy mode in s2. Techno was literally calling Tharn Type’s Daddy throughout s2 and I couldn’t agree more. All Tharn wanted to do was put a ring on it and make it rain billions from the ceiling on his angry boy.

Sun from Dark Blue Kiss. Sun was Mork’s Daddy. IDC. He wasn’t rich but he was def speaking to Mork like Daddy would. Reprimanding him but also taking such sweet care of him, making sure he was fed and paid and supported emotionally. Sun was like a Back Burner Daddy, it wasn’t as obvious but the traits were there. Mork would call him Daddy as an insult but literally no one would take it that way.

Win from Between Us. This was more from the special eps. Team called Win ‘Daddy’ on Pharm’s rec (Dean should be on this list too, maybe I’ll make a pt 2) Win definitely liked it. A lot. Win is more of a fuckboy to me but he’s Teams Daddy which makes him Daddy for all. He does give off a very daddy dom vibe so I get it.

Lian Kilen Wang from Cutie Pie. I didn’t particularly like Lian all that much but yea he was Kuea’s Daddy. Very textbook Daddy too. “Do as I say because I have your best interests at heart and if you don’t I will punish you.” IDK how to explain it but y’all know he is.

What has been the BL that took you by surprise this year?

Old Fashion Cupcake. It came out of nowhere! One random day Viki uploaded the first episode, and was like “You wanna watch an oddly named show from Japan?” and my my my (sing it like Troye Sivan) it hit every sweet spot. The scene that was done all in one sequence?! I’m still there. I’m living in that scene. I only come out because I have to pay bills. I’m going to rewatch it for the 80th time now.

What has been the BL that you felt a bit disappointed with this year?

It would have been Oh! My Sunshine Night, but it seemed to embrace its messiness (adding more episodes on the day of the finale!) in a way that I love (amnesia?! a murder plot?! a bubble bath?!!!!) so…

Between Us. It’s the same issue I had with Until We Meet Again. I don’t know how Win and Team’s plot is going to carry over for twelve episodes. We keep getting snippets of In and Korn (TW, please), and shots of Dean and Pharm, but we already know their story, so it’s like recycled plot with a new scent. It’s nice to see Dean not so robotic (“fuck off”) and Pharm not being infantilized, but on top of Alphabet Soup’s issues with Prince Charming, a drowning, Manow doing her (keep it up, we love it!), Tul and Wan’s Gameboys moment, baby Santa looking adorable as Wiew, the product placement of what is clearly NOT water, and the daddy issues (actual issues with their father and not Love in the Air daddy issues), I don’t know how this souffle is going to rise. However, it’s not even close to being finished, so I’m excited to watch how it bakes.

What has been your favorite BL this year?

Love Mechanics. I’m trash for VeeMark’s throat grabs. Trash! Vee being a topsy-turvy bisexual who couldn’t get his shit together is the bisexual representation I want. How many bisexuals do we know who have their shit together? Not a damn one. This show is basically a documentary. Then, Mark being the ultimate Sour Patch Kid who is willing to fist fight his father only made the dynamic between a gay and his huge red flag that much better.

Favorite BL couples (not just of 2022)?

MaxTul are my anything and everything. Korn and Knock. Tan and Bun. Sequels. Prequels. Unconfirmed projects – WHERE IS TRANSPLANT?! It always blows my mind that they are the same age, if not younger than another long-established pair, and came out the gate slutting up our screens. Not even making it a competition, it’s just wild to me that they did the devil’s tango day one, which we see more often now, and held a gun to each other’s head two years ago so DanYok, ToddBlack, KinnPorsche, and VegasPete could fly (I see you HIStory 3: Trapped. Taiwan, you're still my #1). They remind me of a Taiwanese couple with the domestic bliss, the high heat, and the batshit craziness, and I hope they live long and happy lives.

If you had to suggest a BL for someone what would it be?

To My Star 1 AND 2. Yeah, I wrote that. Not just To My Star, but To My Star 2 as well. The reasons speak for themselves, but just in case, never forget his lip was bleeding.

What's your non-BL favorite for this year?

Our Flag Means Death. I only support the girls, the gays, and the goths, so I was happily surprised that I was, in fact, supporting an entire ship of gays and their support goth with this show about pirates. If you think I’m crazy about colors and symbolism in BLs, imagine me watching this show when Ed started wearing color compared to his usual black and wore Stede’s RED robe after Stede gave him a RED cloth, that Ed placed in his pocket where his heart is because Stede gave him love only to throw it in the wind when…

Let me calm down. This show was glorious, and I’m delighted it got a second season. De. Light. Ed.

i also want to thank you for responding (publicly and clearly) to that person. i've been avoiding all the drama but something like can't be let go and absolutely requires a response. i'm still in shock that ET's name was even THOUGHT of in this case. it's ludicrous. i briefly scrolled their page before blocking and people are actually sending a bunch of supportive messages?! man fandom sucks sometimes.

it's literally baffling how much support they have, and also baffling how the people they're mainly going after are black women when i (a WHITE person) am literally the one who started all this and i feel so incredibly guilty and awful that they've become her targets it's ridiculous

i dont, and will never, regret calling her out for being ignorant and (whether intentionally or not) racist, but i do feel so awful that she's continuing to target the black community

im blocked but i just got told she took the post down, not because she felt what she said was bad or wrong or inappropriate, but because it upset a friend? nevermind the effect it had on an entire community

and then added this? despite the fact that when i and a few other people called her out we didn't add anything about the build situation, but rather the audacity to use emmett till as an example of cancel culture? i just cant understand the victim mentality behind being told what you've posted is harmful by a community that you're NOT a part of, and then doubling down and basically going 'actually its not its your fault you cant read properly'

i don't understand how she's turned this into taking sides when the problem stemmed from her essentially conflating the murder of a 14 year old black boy with cancel culture? how are there sides to this when the exact community you used as an example have told you how hurtful and damaging this comparison is, and then you proceed to say 'no it isnt' and play the victim when you continue to get called out on your behaviour?

Getting to know your BL mutuals - 2022 Edition

What has been the BL that took you by surprise this year?

Big Dragon, I like it way more than I thought I would from the trailer and the first episode. It wasn't really on my radar. God damn are they making my emotions swing from 'this guys is an idiot I can't stand him' to 'I just want to pet him, pathetic meow, meow'. Except for Park and Pong I adore them all the time.

Also Secret Crush on You. Another that wasn't on my radar. The first episode rubbed me up the wrong way and I thought I'd hate the stalker storyline but by god does Billy and Seng have some great chemistry and give it depth to pull it off. Plus the storyline evolved and covered so many topics/themes. First times, body confidence, bullying, gender identity, questioning stereotypical roles in a relationship.

What has been the BL that you felt a bit disappointed with this year?

I normally am a pretty good judge of if I will like it from the trailer so I don't get massively disappointed when watching. Strangely enough, it's not that a feel disappointed with War of Y but I'm not in love with it like I thought I would be. It's good and the chemistry between the actors is great and yet I'm not 100% connecting with it. Fingers crossed for the 4th and last story as it was the one I was waiting for.

Even Sun. Now I adore BounPrem with all my heart but this series had so many things wrong with it. And it was frustrating because I could see glimpses of the good there, Prem was funny as Sun and some of the Bounprem moments were great. But there were too many characters, they should have focused on the one couple, and the translations were so bad that the storyline didn't always make sense (I saw a better translation at a later date and the storyline was so much better!) But overall the writing was abysmal.

What has been your favourite BL this year?

How do I choose one? Seriously? It can't be done. In no particular order. Kinnporsche, Love in the Air, Semantic Error. I reserve the right to add Between Us at a later date! I can and will rewatch all of these numerous times.

Favourite BL couples (not just of 2022)?

So, soooooo many!

Wangxian, Payurain, Vegaspete, Akkayan, Jaeyoung/Sangwoo, Winteam, Wenzhou, Seanwhite, Gao Shide/Zhou Shuyi, Jack/Zhao Zi.

You know looking at this list I think I have a type!

If you had to suggest a BL for someone what would it be?

It's kinda dependent on what they are after.

Love in the Air, Kinnporsche, Not Me, Until We Meet Again, Between Us, History3: Trapped, Plus and Minus, Bad Buddy. (Yes I know not all of them are from this year!)

But if they were newbies I'd suggest maybe starting with the Korean BL's like Semantic Error, Roommates of Poongduck 304 and Choco Milk Shake. They are just kinda fluffy with good storylines and are often comedic.

What's your non-BL favourite for this year?

I have two and I would recommend them to everyone!

Thailand's 'Mama Gogo' made me laugh all the way through plus I loved the Older woman/Younger man relationship between Annie and Chen.

Korea's 'Love and Leashes' which again I'm pretty sure Jung Ji Hoo is supposed to be a younger man to Jung Ji Woo's slightly older woman. Their portrayal of a woman discovering her inner Dom was wonderful. Also seeing a submissive man be confident, for the most part, in his submissiveness was refreshing.

It was so painfully obvious that the Queen loved Erik more than Wille. Erik was her golden child. That’s why they sent Wille to Hillerska. It wasn’t about “traditions”. It was to keep him out of sight and out of mind. I mean… they didn’t even come to parent’s day. Either one of them.

Wille knew this. He was painfully aware. And THAT is where most of his issues stem from. His need for attention from his parents, any kind of attention, was the main reason he was a wildcard.

All this to say, fuck the Queen and her trifling ass consort.

“We stop them.” Marie said, nerves evident in the quiver of her voice. Jordan glanced at Emma, who was strangely composed about this entire situation. Then again, not everyone reacts the same to homicide. 

“Okay, fine. We stop them.” Jordan said, eyes glancing from Emma to Marie. “What’s the plan?” 

After taking a few moments to gather themselves, all three of them made their way to the main campus. The air cackled with different degrees of emotion. Anger, fear, frustration, more fear. Jordan, still in their fem form, stole glances at Marie. There were so many unspoken things between them. So many moments they may not get to have. 

The walk was quick, and quiet. Before they knew it they made it to The Woods. Only to find that Cate and Sam had already wreaked havoc and left a pile of bodies behind.

“Jesus fucking christ.” Jordan said quietly, huffing a breath. The guard that lay in front of them had his entire face ripped off. It was so grotesque it seemed almost fake, and they knew this was only the beginning. “We have to split up,” Marie started, glancing at Jordan and Emma. “Emma, you clear the performing arts center. Okay, teachers, administration, everyone.” She turned to face Jordan, “Jordan, you sweep the student union.” “There’s a panic button in Shetty’s office.” they looked up at Marie, “Under her desk. It’ll lock down pretty much everything.” Marie released a shaky breath, “Okay, that’s where I’m going.”

They started to make their way toward the entrance, Emma basically sprinting while Jordan and Marie trailed behind. As Emma disappeared from sight, Jordan made the decision to be brave, they might not get another chance. They grabbed Marie’s hand, stopping her. Marie looked down at them, concern and confusion all over her face.

“Hey…” they started, eyes locking onto hers. “Before we go out there, to face whatever the fuck Cate started, I just have something I need to say.” They pulled their hand back, and rubbed it on their pant leg. “Ummm,” they let out a breath, “I know that this whole thing between us hasn’t necessarily been conventional. With everything going on, we really haven’t had the chance to do things the right way but we’re about to face some really big shit. Like, life threatening we could die, shit.” They chuckled dryly, “So I just wanted to say that I’m sorry. I’m sorry for buying into Brink’s bullshit. I’m sorry for rejecting you from the school. I’m just sorry for everything. I needed to make sure I said that to you.” Marie smiled softly down at them, “You have nothing to apologize for, Jordan. You had no reason to believe that man was a piece of shit.” She shrugged, “It happens. People hide things. People suck. But as far as rejecting me from the school, yeah I’m never letting that shit go.” She laughed softly and took a step forward, tucking a loose strand of hair behind Jordan’s ear. “I forgave you the second you batted those beautiful brown eyes at me so… basically the next day. Besides, you’ve made up for it in more ways than one. You fought Golden Boy AND his brother to protect me.” Jordan chuckled, placing their hand on Marie’s waist, “Do not flatter yourself Moreau, I would’ve done that for anyone.” Their expression changed, “If we make it through this, I hope we get a chance to see where this thing goes. A real chance.” They raised a hand and gently stroked Marie’s cheek. “I don’t need to see anything else to know that we’re good together.” She mirrored Jordan’s caress, “I don’t doubt for a second that we’re making it through this. We have to.” “We have to…” they echoed before pulling Marie into a gentle kiss. Their hands moved in sync, cupping the back of each other’s heads gently. As tongue met tongue the kiss deepened, and became more demanding. They both knew that this could be the last time they’d have a chance to share a moment like this, so they dove in headfirst. Marie’s hand gripped Jordan’s shirt as they allowed themselves to be swept away, if only for a moment, by their feelings. They pulled apart, breath catching in their chests and their eyes screaming the things they were too scared to say out loud.

Neither spoke as they went their separate ways, wanting the last thing that they shared to be that sweet intimate moment.

Jordan stood, a bright smile on their face as they turned to face Marie. They were in their masculine form now, slowly walking toward her. “See?” Marie said, smiling. “We’re good together.” Jordan chuckled as they continued to make their way towards her. 

Out of the corner of their eye they saw Cate approaching, arm stretched out. 

“NO!” Marie shouted, extending her own hand. Her fingers twitched and Cate’s forearm exploded, sending splatters of blood everywhere. Jordan saw the look of shock on Marie’s face. As if she wasn’t aware that she could do that. Cate’s screams filled the air and that was the last thing they remember before they woke up in an unfamiliar place.
