Mr. Mayor (2021-22)
In today's review, I find that the world of 2020s politics might welcome a fresh comedic face. As I attempt a #positive review of the 2021 mayoral comedy, Mr Mayor #TedDanson #HollyHunter #VellaLovell #MikeCabellon #KylaKenedy #BobbyMoynihan
The world of politics is a touchy subject, the issues being contentious for a lot of the folks at home, and it is hard to approach topics without potentially burning some bridges. With such adversity, those brave enough to try to reflect those issues or exaggerate those issues for comedic effect face a greater challenge, When the absurd try their hand at public office, where can you go next to…

Okay.  But what if RJ picks Carol flowers because he's already picked his mama some so why not Carol, too?  Pretty flowers for the pretty ladies, right?
Carol takes them with this big old smile on her face.  She thanks that sweet pumpkin of a little boy and gets all teary-eyed when he gives her a hug, and Michonne thinks it's because of Henry.  Maybe Lydia does, too.
They're not wrong exactly.  Part of it really is.  But Daryl's watching--he's always watching--and he knows it's something else.  He feels it in his gut that there's more to the story so he sticks close, starts a conversation later that night that tips the first domino over, and basically Carol spills her guts like we've been wanting her to for literally forever.
Unburdening herself turns out to be easier than she ever thought it would be because there's no judgment in Daryl's eyes, only understanding, and it's just another step in them growing closer.  Another step in things coming full circle. And from that point on, Daryl brings her all the flowers he can.  So does RJ and even Lydia.
Slowly but surely they replace the sad memories with something good and Carol is able to remember loving Lizzie and Mika, not just the pain of losing them.
I just...I feel like she needs this.
 We all do.

UNTITLED TED DANSON/TINA FEY PROJECT (ordered direct to series)
A wealthy businessman runs for mayor of Los Angeles for all the wrong reasons. Once he wins he has to figure out what he stands for, gain the respect of his staff, and connect with his teenage daughter, all while controlling the coyote population.
Cast (thus far)
Ted Danson (The Good Place, Cheers) as Mayor Bremer, the wealthy businessman at the center of the show. (July 18, 2019)
Holly Hunter (Saving Grace) as Arpi, a longtime liberal councilwoman. Having dedicated her life to the betterment of Los Angeles, she makes no secret of her disdain for the newly elected Mayor Bremer, whom she considers unqualified, sexist, and too tall to be trusted. (Nov 20, 2019)
Kyla Kenedy (Speechless) as Orly Bremer, the headstrong teenage daughter of the new mayor. (The Wrap, Feb 12)
Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live) as Jayden, the interim Director of Communications in the newly elected Mayor’s office. (Sep 13, 2019)
Vella Lovell (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) as Mikaela, a fiercely ambitious politician-in-the-making, moved up from the mayor’s campaign manager to his interim chief of staff. (Jan 21)
Series Creator: Tina Fey, Robert Carlock
Producers: Tina Fey, Ted Danson, Jeff Richmond, David Miner, Robert Carlock
Studios: Universal Television, Little Stranger, 3 Arts Entertainment
Genre: Office, Political, and Satirical
The series has been in the works for more than a year and was written specifically for Danson. It is likely inspired by the election of Donald Trump and more recently the campaign of Mike Bloomberg. Directly on the heels of Trump’s unexpected rise to President, ABC ordered to series comedy “The Mayor” (pilot season 2017) about an aspiring musician who ran for mayor for the wrong reasons. While star Brandon Michael Hall, and his castmates, were praised for their performances (and Hall subsequently came to star in CBS’s “God Friended Me”), “The Mayor” did not get a back-order and burned off some of its thirteen episodes online. That being said, the auspices of the involved parties on this project make it likely NBC will invest heavily in this series, which has already been ordered.
