Rahal ends six-year pole position drought at Indianapolis | IndyCar

Six years since the last time he started on pole position in the IndyCar series, Graham Rahal will start up front once again at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Rahal will lead an all-Rahal Letterman Lanigan front row in tomorrow’s 85-lap race around the grand prix course, with Toronto Indy winner Christian Lundgaard starting alongside him. Lundgaard was holding onto provisional pole in the waning seconds of the Fast Six session, before Rahal surpassed him after the chequered flag and took the top spot with a time of 1’10.113, a tenth of a second clear of his Danish team mate. For Rahal, it’s his first IndyCar pole since the first race of the 2017 Detroit Grand Prix. Rahal went on to sweep that double-header weekend, which is also his most recent IndyCar victory. It was also a much happier return to the Speedway for Rahal, less than three months after he was bumped from the field at the Indianapolis 500 – on a day where all three of RLL’s full-time runners had to go through the Last Row Shoot-out. Rahal eventually made it into the race as a substitute for the injured Stefan Wilson. Behind Lundgaard, who won pole at the same track in May, an all-McLaren second row sees Alexander Rossi third and Pato O’Ward fourth. Devlin DeFrancesco, who has looked less and less likely to return to Andretti Autosport next season, recorded his best-ever IndyCar qualifying result in fifth place, ahead of Romain Grosjean in sixth. Championship leader and Indianapolis GP winner Alex Palou missed the cut to fight for pole position in the second round, but he will start eighth tomorrow, alongside his Chip Ganassi Racing team mate Marcus Armstrong. Luton 1-2 West Brom: Slaven Bilic hails Grady Diangana after comeback victory

West Bromwich Albion boss Slaven Bilic praised his side for his second half after beating Luton.

Albion had left at the break, but was replaced twice by Grady Diangana within three minutes of replacing Kyle Edwards, to give them a lead they never wanted to lose.

Bilic said, "Thanks to him, he did exactly what we wanted him to do, but it wasn't just Grady."

Headed to Atlanta Speedway

Saturday races only. Both races looked stacked with talent.

Xfinity Series: 

Cole Custer, Austin & Ty Dillon, William Byron, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson.

Harvick & Busch won the last two installments of the Atlanta Double-Header. I don’t doubt one of them will repeat. I do not expect this race to be a crash fest like last weekend either. Xfinity cars tend to fan out pretty quickly over the first ten laps dividing the Haves and Have-nots. I wonder, why is Aric Almirola out there running the #98 car in Xfinity? He never vies for wins, just seems to be logging laps. The Xfinity series is stacked with a lot of young, family money driven talent that I’ve watched since their late model and K&N East days. It’s hard to gauge their futures when they’re getting beat every week by Cup regulars. Speaking of... while the Xfinity entry list features 44 cars, the Cup series is sitting at 39 entries (not a full field)

Camping World Trucks:

Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman are running a pair of Chevrolets. Kyle Busch and Regan Smith are also in the race. 

Last year’s truck race was a wreck fest with attrition finally handing the win to John Hunter Nemechek. Crafton won the previous year. I hope heads have cooled since last weekend’s crash-fest. I doubt we’ll see paybacks doled out at AMS. I expect this one to come down to Busch, Bowman and Elliott for the win.

This is the last race weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway featuring the old pavement that was put in place in ‘97. I was there for the last race on the old layout and the first on the new D-shape oval. I miss the old layout and having attended afternoon and evening races at several tracks across the Southeast, I think all grandstands should face East. I will not stick around for Sunday’s race (though I will regret missing a potentially long and grueling event like last year), as I have a ton of schoolwork to complete. Seriously, last year’s Atlanta race probably didn’t look like much on TV, but it was by far my favorite Cup race I’ve attended in nearly 20 years. Drivers had their hands full all day long. They had to manage tires, make big changes to the cars because it got fairly hot as the day went on. There was great racing mid-pack, and while the day was exhausting, they climbed from their cars ecstatic about how fun it was to race so hard for 14th position. 

Oh PS, if you want to race me in Go-Karts, cash me outside the front-stretch grandstands Saturday morning, howbow dah. I’ll be duking it out against some iRacing guys.
