If you’ve been frequenting this site over the course of the past month or two. you might recall that last month, I went to Montreal, to cover the 17th edition of M for Montreal (M pour Montreal in French), an annual conference and festival, which takes place over the course of four days in late November in Canada’s second largest city. Since the inaugural edition back in 2005, M for Montreal…

aruani and 25 if ur still doing the june prompts
June Prompts 🌼
25. Midsummer this is my attempt to fit aruani into my grad school au, bear with me
Something that Annie appreciates about Armin is his willingness to plan, specifically how it compliments her willingness to not. Sometimes his habit pertains to where they'll be going on their bi-weekly date nights or what on the list for this month's Costco haul, but tonight he's doing something much different.
A Kraftwerk vinyl spins on a turntable, allowing music to fill their Halifax apartment. Annie sits in the main living space, remaining on the couch while hunched over her laptop. She's typing madly as she puts an effort towards that whole "Master's degree" thing she set out to get. As she organizes a spreadsheet of data that never fucking ends, she can practically envision the way that Armin's sitting behind her, the manner of which he sits at his desktop and fawns over what he sees on the monitor — that being the most aesthetically pleasing photos of Montreal that one can find.
As of lately he had been particularly enamoured with the city's ferris wheel, yet unwilling to actually say the phrase 'La Grande roue de Montréal.'
For a person as well-travelled as Armin, the fact that he hadn't been to her hometown had surprised Annie. He's spent extensive time on both of Canada's coasts, yet he's never been to the second-most populous city? Judging by how much time he had spent researching the City of Saints, she guesses that the temptation to cross it off his list is rushing through his veins.
"Should I just book it?" he asks. The giddiness and excitement in his voice is extremely palpable.
It's barely into March and he's already been planning what they'll do in the summer. It helps that Annie might — emphasis on might — be able to get some time off in July. It depends on how the physics department feels about letting one of their disposable grad students run free for a week, but it had been enough to convince Armin to start browsing ticket packages.
His enthusiasm when brainstorming potential getaway ideas does make her wonder if his own department — that being the one that studies all the beautiful ways the oceans are dying — is willing to loosen the leash on him as well.
With that in mind, Annie's replies, "You better." She speaks with her usual dryness. "You've only been drooling over that deal for a week."
Truth be told Annie's not averse to visiting home, despite all the years she spent far from it. Even if she's not sure how many of her old Concordia classmates are still kicking about, she wouldn't mind giving the place a visit. When she glances behind her she sees Armin with a boyish smile on his face, then when she turns back to her laptop she only types for a few second before hearing the sharp click of his mouse.
"Alright, I did it!" Armin announces, a chipper flavour to his tone. "We are Montreal bound this July."
Annie nods and stands from the couch. She goes to the kitchen of their apartment, even through the doorway she is able to spot Armin at his desktop as she rummages through the fridge.
"I've never seen you so stoked to be far from the ocean," she remarks.
Some of the details still haven't been specified yet, but she's sure that they'll iron things out later. Perhaps she can bully Pieck into being their house-sitter/plant-waterer for their midsummer getaway. Additionally, she recalls Armin mentioning something about a childhood friend of his currently studying at McGill, because all disposable grad students seem to know one another. It would be foolhardy to assume that no time on this trip will be spent with them, though Annie can't exactly remember their name.
Armin turns in his swivel chair, leaning back as he shrugs. "They got a river there, right?"
Annie rolls her eyes. "Right." She grabs a can of seltzer for herself, and when she glances to Armin she sees him raising his hand, wordlessly requesting one for himself.
Annie doesn't hesitate to toss a can his way. To this day they're both surprised that their little seltzer-tossing tendency has not led to a broken window and them losing their safety deposit.
"You better brush up on your French then, mon cherie," Annie says, partially joking but partially serious.
Armin meets her gaze with a more wary expression in his eyes. It seems that despite all the time he had spent learning about a mostly Francophone city, he had neglected to consider that whole "actually speaking French" part.
"Of course!" he insists. "Uh... merci beacoup?"
Annie smirks just as she opens her can. "Nailed it."

Montreal - La Grande Roue de Montréal La Grande Roue de Montréal aka Montreal Ferris Wheel is an absolute must-do when exploring the city. It’s was erected in 2017 for the 375th anniversary of Montreal and is the tallest Ferris wheel in All of Canada at 60 m (200 ft). The views are insane as you rise high above the Montreal old city with all the cathedrals and churches and skyscrapers in one side and the St Lawrence River with bridges and islands in the other side. And you get to ride it three times - three full turns! #travel2unlimited #travel #travelblog #canada #Quebec #montreal #roadtrip #canadian #fallcolors #adventure #waterfall #iconic #ferriswheel #lagranderoue (at La Grande Roue de Montréal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkfXv2OO5Ry/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I took my first real adult trip back in October with my boyfriend to see Gorillaz. I first visited Montreal in grade 8 for a school trip and had always wanted to go back. So we made it happen ❤

Impressions Photographique de Montréal
It took a few days of walking, cycling, and driving around Montréal before Leah and I found our bearings from atop Mont Royal. We roamed the rues and parcs of the city in search of historic, cultural, and architectural significance–with an emphasis on good food…and we found it in many of the neighborhoods we visited. Nouilles de Lan Zhou – Noodle Shop We followed in the steps of 6 million…

Montréal Sights
We have had a fantastic month in Montréal and I thought I would take a break from packing to share some of the sights we have been treated to. The history and architecture here is amazing. It is a pleasure to see a city embrace its past and preserve its history as opposed to demolishing the old to make way for the new. Though, unfortunately you can see depressing signs of wanting to hide the…

Jour 5 :
Day 5 :
Discovery of the old port of Montreal, astonished by the contrast between the city and its shoreline, which includes basins, ferris wheel, local businesses and even museums.
We are far from the image of ports, dirty and industrial docks, and much closer to the daily walk. This place alone brings a dose of disruption worthy of a multicultural city. Finally, this place quickly becomes indispensable in the daily life of Montrealers.
Strolling by the docks, with this cool light, these shimmer of water swirls. These paddle boats basking patiently at the water's edge and the reds and blue brighten my eyes. When a kind of appeasement overwhelmed me. I realize how lucky I am to be here at this moment, in its dark moments of a gnawed society, I think back to the daily life of my small town.
A touch of humility mixed with this vision of George Seurat:
A Sunday on The Grand Jatte. (to find on the page "montréal")
