Dergtober Day 19 and 20: Lair and Weaver

Knocked out two more prompts before I lose myself to RoR grinding! In Lair, we have little Baxstar being carefully guarded by the pack of Mirrors currently raising the little guy. And in Weaver, a heart shaped spiderweb has been woven around Laci and Peridot, one of the sweetest couples in the Stronghold!

This is actually a re-read for me, so I’m excited to have a new look at all the brilliant forshadowing in this book that I probably didn’t pick up on the first time around two years ago!

Cimbik voltunk Eilaton, ezért mikor egy eilati építkezésen eltörte a sarkát, betaxiztunk a helyi kórházba, ahol közölték, hogy tb hiányában x csillió lesz a műtét, plusz szíveskedjünk a röntgenért meg az orvosi megtekintésért azonnal kifizetni egy kisebb vagyont. Úgyhogy fizetés nélkül kitoltam Lacicimbit a kórházból és elbuszoztunk Tel-Avivba, én, a féllábú cimbi meg két tömött hátizsák. A telavivi reptéren viszont egy biztonsági őrként dolgozó veterán (Izraelben a nők is katonakötelesek) kihívta a mentőt, mert meglátta cimbi lila lábfejét és szerinte akár amputálás is lehet belőle ( hivatkozott katonai tapasztalatok). Mentő, kórház, nem azonnali a veszély, de a számlát tessék a folyosó végén levő kisablaknál fizetni, én meg természetesen fizetés nélkül kitoltam a hátsó bejáraton a kollégát. Hosztel, reptér, magyarországi műtét. Lacikánk mostanság, kb. 20 éve portás egy londoni gated communityben, se társadalmi kapcsolatok, se nő, se pasi, szóval frusztrált incelként elkezdett elszupertibisedni meg unatkozórobotosodni és a faszverés mellé új hobbyt talált magának, jelesül a rasszizmust meg a fasizmust, erős antifeminista felhangokkal. A barátságunk vége meg a mellékelt printscreenben.

16) How's their relationship with their parents? Are they alive?

well for most of them Bad, so jot that down. ny's dad is abusive and his mom died of illness before he hatched. despite being awful to him all the time, it took a literal act of god for ny to run away from home and even then he still finds excuses for his dad.

paradox's adoptive parents very clearly had a favorite child and it wasn't him. his mom was abusive and dad was neglectful. paradox hates his hometown and everyone in it. (his biological parents died in an accident when he was only a few months old, so he never really knew them)

laci's whole extended family lives together, and with dozens of siblings and cousins of course not everyone is going to get enough attention. sometimes she misses them. sometimes she wonders if they even noticed she left.

juxt, again, never met his biological parents and was raised by astra and dire. i could talk for hours about their dynamic. how does it feel that the person who taught you to read also taught you how to take a life? that the person who's sending assassins, your own friends, after you also asks you so sweetly to come home, to embrace her again?

I haven’t started gift shopping yet but I’ve been developing my list of what to get for different people and having fun trying to figure out what books I think people will like. Of my few irl friends they’re all somewhat long distance from me now so I don’t see them often, but I’m trying to deduct what books each of them may actually read and enjoy.

I’m really struggling though with one friend because she doesn’t really read much to begin with, and what she generally does enjoy is usually not anything I’m familiar with. If anyone has ideas for books for someone who is both a Lord of the Rings nerd and an economics/accounting person, I would love some help here 🫣

I’m lucky I don’t have many people to buy gifts for but it can still be so tough. I only have to shop for my parents and sister and luckily my sister was dropping lots of hints of what she wants this year (2nd generation airpods and a new phone which… will be interesting because my parents were already thinking of getting me a new phone because mine is old). My parents are so tough to shop for though. My mom I can usually find a book or two for her but my dad??? Most of the time I just write an IOU [insert some random thing he needs] and hope for the best. 🤷‍♀️

I’m sure you’re so good about picking out books for your friends! Have ever thought about leaving a little note along with the book? Even if you don’t want to write directly in it (writing in books stresses me out) you could leave a little sticky note and I think that’s so cute! My sister will pick up books for me when she’s thrifting and sometimes she does well but most of the time it’s a coming of age ya novel from 2010 and I’m sick of ya atm (expect for ya fantasy and my select favorite authors of course).

Seriously though if anyone has any suggestions for books that are similar to LOTR please let Laci know!!! The only thing I can think of is maybe she likes series because she can get more immersed in the world. It also might be helpful to look up suggested reads/readers also enjoyed recommendations on book websites or storygraph if you haven’t already tried that!
