Here's a little something I've been working on (in the midst of all the other things I've been working on) where Canute finally gets to see his face on a coin:

In the center was a king, draped in a rich cloak, a crown sitting authoritatively atop his brow. His profile was surrounded by a ring of letters, an unbroken circle of thick, raised capitals.

Emma traced her thumb along the words, the indentations smooth, unyielding. The coin was so small, clasped in her fingertips, and yet it contained so much. It spoke of wealth and stability, of dreams conjured into something stable and real, lasting far beyond her life and those of her children, a glittering future made possible by the nearly weightless object she held in her hand.

Rhaenys' younger brother that took after their mothers Baratheon looks and preferred the stormlands to kings landing. When their cousin and the head of the Baratheon house sides with the greens in the usurpation, it also starts a civil way among the Baratheons and their sworn houses too, with Rhaenys' younger brother leading the ones that stayed loyal to her and him and sided with the blacks. His reward for his loyalty? Rhaenyra gives him Alicent as a wife when him and his dragon (maybe grey ghost? would fit in with storms end tbh) both help his sister and Meleys during the battle of Rook's Rest and help in the reclaiming of King's Landing. Too bad for the green boys when he ends up being a decent husband, and Alicent can't fight how much he grows on her. 🤭

Seriously, bless Ali - you give her some soft loving, and she gives the throne back thank you very much

HE IS THE HOTTEST THO! He enjoys the fight and stays silent most of the time in the council meetings.

Commander Lexa (The 100) — the love of my life, my number one from now until the end of time, deserved a far better ending and I will forever be bitter about it.

Ellie Williams (The Last of Us) — I would walk through fire for this character. I love her more than my own life.

Bix Caleen (Andor) — it was so hard to only pick one Star Wars character, but she really has a special place in my heart now. Also deserved better. Tony Gilroy I am in your fucking walls.

Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redemption 2) — all I wanted to do was root and toot and yee and haw, but this game made me deeply love this man. I frequently cry about him.

Jessica Jones (Marvel) — she’s an absolute mess, she’s an asshole, but by god does she try.

Emma of Normandy (Vikings: Valhalla) — look, I’m usually strongly Team Viking in these shows, but her first scene made me switch sides in record time. I will also defend her actions in s2 with my full chest. I support women’s rights and women’s wrongs.

Senua (Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice) — I haven’t even played this game myself, but it completely altered my brain chemistry. Senua truly reached into my fucking soul. I cry when I think about her for more than a few minutes. “All she needed was a little help. A little hope.”

For sleepover Saturday: What is a headcanon you’ve got that you haven’t shared yet! Can be for anything.

So I have this theory about Canute, which is a little strange, because it’s mixing up the historical Cnut with the Vikings: Valhalla Canute — and as we know, the show plays a little fast and loose with the historical record! 

The show emphasizes that Canute grew up in the shadow of his father, who’s clearly a forceful personality, and part of his desire to build this northern empire is to step out of that shadow. Historically, though, Forkbeard died two years before the events of the show, and Cnut’s older brother, Harald, was king of Denmark after Forkbeard’s death. (The show doesn’t mention Harald, because how could Canute be a king if his older brother is still alive? But that also begs the question, how can Canute be a king if his father is still alive...? ANYWAY.)

My theory is not only based on the idea of Canute wanting to be his own man, outside of his father’s legacy, but also that he was a second son, and therefore hadn’t really prepared himself to be a king of anything. (As we see with Harald Sigurdsson, younger sons just mostly float around and try to acquire wealth and glory, sometimes even working as mercenaries in foreign countries.) In the first episodes of Season 1 (particularly Episodes 3 and 4), we see Canute as a strategist, really trying to think things through and figure out the best options for whatever he’s trying to do. I think that much of that comes from being a second son who was unexpectedly handed this power and responsibility and wants to always be 100% certain that he’s choosing the right path. (You can see it when he first says no to Leif’s plan, but then later on is convinced by it after taking the time to talk to Leif and understand his thinking.) I think it also explains why he’s so drawn to Emma (besides the obvious reasons!): here is someone who also thinks meticulously and is going to help him with his larger goals. (And, yeah, marrying an anointed queen also gives him more legitimacy, and as a second son who still thinks in a second-son-type-way, that’s going to be super attractive.)

She's such a queen, oozing power by just standing somewhere. The presence just pulled me in like a moth to flame and I'm burning for her. She should've been in s2- there, I said it.

Another one of those "goes batshit in combat" types (although, he does apologize for hurting ppl, unlike the other ones who kill), that are very loving, with the broad shoulders-slim waist ratio. Welp, there might be a type.

4. Derek Hale - Teen Wolf

Tortured soul. Honestly, that dudes life is one big tragedy. But he's a fighter xD

5. Crowley - Good Omens

An angel that did not so much fall as saunter vaguely downwards. Asking questions and giving no fucks. My type people.

6. Geralt of Rivia - The Witcher

He swears a lot, soft heart, hard shell. He's somewhere in the dollhouse with the pther dudes up there. They all share a room and bitch about their shitty life.

7. Do Ha-na - The Uncanny Counter

Tough, but actually sweet. Also: pretty.

8. Kala Dandekar - Sense8

She is my babygirl and I need to protect her at all cost. Although, she is fully capable of doing that on her own.

9. Andromache the Scythian - The Old Guard

Very old, very tired, very done with everyone's bullshit (oh, is that me? No, it's Andy). Grade A fighter who has a huge soft spot for innocent people.

Should I say it? Horrible background, gets constantly mistaken for a gangster/mobster, even though he's not a bad guy. I was working on my submission to @blind-dates-fest yesterday, so that's what my last sentence is from!

Yes. It's for Masters of the Air. I am nothing if not predictable.

But Harding wasn’t made of stone. Everyone was worrying about this one, and he knew it. It was one of the things that made him a good leader - that he had his nose in the wind, as it were, instead of being unreachable in his office with his reports. Still. Kind wasn’t a word you were supposed to use for officers.

Guy of Gisbon (BBC Robin Hood) Currently doing a rewatch of this show and forgot how he was a favorite. Clearly dark, hot-headed, men with a soft spot are just as much a thing from my past as it is true for me today :)

Emma of Normandy (Vikings: Valhalla) She's an icon. A badass in her own way. And marries a dark, hot-headed Viking man. How can I not be obsessed with her?

Daniel Arlington aka Darlington (Ninth House) I also have a love for demon fighting, hell exploring, men with a dark past and cynicism. His girlfriend is also a badass fellow demon fighter, so double the trouble ;)

The Fool (The Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb) I love this queer, silly, loyal, outsider. That's all. He is everything. And I need to pick this series back up.

Gabriel De Leon (Empire of the Vampire) Again, dark, hot headed, complicated past, soft spot, the pattern is clear. This man is the only vampire I have considered my favortie, and this book is an all time favorite. I can't wait for book two!

Morgana Pendragon (BBC Merlin) My original queen with a dark heart. She will always be a favorite and always included on any list.

Calian (Walker: Independence) It is so hard to pick a favorite from this short lived western, but I also so happen to love a long-haired, heart of gold, humble man (ode to my Prince Caspian days). Calian was the best ❤️

Donna Noble (Doctor Who) You know, Donna was never an all time favorite companion of mine, but I am loving her in the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary. And plus my favorite Doctor is back! I think this special is gonna make me supper emotional when it is over.

Rissa (Plated Prisoner Series) As for a lot of fantasy romance that I read, secondary characters tend to become my favorite. This is true for my little spit fire, Rissa. She has crawled her way out of the pits, and I just want her to be happy. Particularly with a grumpy, hairy, obsessed with her soldier named Osrik. Gold can't come soon enough! ✨️

Anakin Skywalker (Star Wars) Watching the new Star Wars series -- Asoka and the Obi Wan-Kenobi tv series -- has reminded me of my early kid days and watching Hayden Christian as Anakin. The Original dark, complicated past, misunderstood character. The nostalgia was real.
