"Bring back cunty F1" "Bring back F1 drivers who don't care about PR and just say what they think" "Bring back F1 where the drivers are actually allowed to be rivals"
You fools. You insolent buffoons. You can't handle the Ferrari drivers taking shots at each other in separate interviews. You can't handle Max saying what everyone else is thinking. You can't even handle Lando Norris existing. And you think you would survive watching Multi-21 happen in real time? Or, God forbid, classic F1? I'm laughing.

ppl mad at lando for saying he still gets nervous before quali and can't eat all Sunday cause nervy from the pressure, cause this isn't champion mentality cause you won't hear schumacher/hamilton/max saying it, or that he's sympathy baiting in the fastest car... but like. James Hunt would vomit before races. Nico only compulsively ate potatoes on Sunday. it's a nerve wracking sport! why does the champion/winning mentality only have be in 1 form (that is stringently stereotypically masculine)?

Look I’ve watched the BTS footage a 100 times already. The thing is Oscar didn’t have to pop in. And Lando most certainly didn’t have to keep the conversation going. But he did. And Lando did. And it was all soft and warm and “I want to know the most mundane details about this exact thing that I’ve done for 6 years already but did you have fun Oscar?? Did you? Have fun? Osc? Nice smoothie osc. Gonna copy your cute lil pose osc”.
Everything I’ve learned about Lando in the last few weeks is that he just wants friends? He keeps talking about how he missed out on the uni experience and how his friends are all through racing. And it explains why he’s kept Max on at Quadrant and all that side of it. (Not saying he’s buying Max’s friendship or anything) And he kept being friends with his teammates thinking they were safe but Carlos left and Daniel was fired. Which is the nature of the sport don’t get me wrong that’s fine. But I think Lando is really comfortable because Oscar is here to stay for a while. So Lando has Oscar.
And Oscar has always been better than the rest at this sport so it was hard to make friends with the other boys because he kept moving a step forward, quicker than everyone else. His Prema vids are sweet but there’s a sense that everyone in them is still trying to make it. Plus Oscar has 3 younger sisters but he’s never had a brother and he’s a little quiet and Lando was okay bulldozing his way into Oscar’s heart so now Oscar has Lando.
They both love their families but the sport makes it so they feel distant from them? Yes Adam is at almost every race and Oscar has a very loving relationship with his mom but all they’ve known is this sport forever. This sport where there’s no loyalty and no love and a lot friendships are actually just colleagues hanging out in a work setting.
That’s what makes Carlando so endearing. It’s that the friendship persisted beyond the contract mandated hangouts. That’s what makes Landoscar so special. They’ve found each other, a support system, a person who actually understands every nuance of the car, every corner that they race, every debrief in a way that really only their teammate can.
They are each other’s competition but they’re also each other’s comfort and I think that’s really special. Plus, Oscar’s quite tall isn’t he 😏

KINGSMAN SPIES LANDOSCAR!! honestly could put oscar in as harry (looks conservative and staid upon first impression but actually has an edge) & lando as the upstart newcomer who solves problems unconventionally but effectively nonetheless.
Tumblr media
i passed a specialist shoe shop earlier today that specialises in leathers and i think there'd be something cool about cobbler oscar who keeps a very quiet shop. he's very reserved. has mainly old clients who he keeps in a handwritten notebook. he's carrying on a cobbler tradition of like 90 years and has trained with some impressive brits and everything. and at night he's the kingsman's service artillery specialist. he just pulls out rows and rows of stuff like Q and is like. "i'd suggest that one. you need a muffler in a place like king's cross station. easy cleanup."
and lando's some rich kid from millfield who has been thrust into the service because his dad sent him as a joke 'cus he's like, you're too coddled. you need to do it before you get your trust fund.
but it turns out that with the right focus and intention lando is actually a brilliant kingsman in the making. he definitely has an eggsy moment at training academy where he has to take out a bunch of trainers using only a ballpoint pen and a textbook or something. he's the only one who figures out that the ballpoint pen has different functions upon specific clicks. one of them is a nanorazor, and another is an incapacitating poison.
and lando, a little bruised, very tired, is about to go on his first mission. he's at oscar's shop, choosing shoes and trying not to glance at oscar and his still hands and his cool demeanour.
then lando is like, "wait. you designed the pen thing earlier didn't you? that was you." and oscar gets this glimmer of a smile and a single arched eyebrow that he presses back down, and is like: "yeah. did you like it?"

this literally exemplifies everything that we’ve been saying. Lando hasn’t done a single thing to be this disliked except be himself, and if that’s that much of a problem to people then they should have a much bigger issue with many other drivers with even bigger personalities. this amount of hate is not normal. you want drivers to have personality, but you hate the ones that are true to themselves.
wish I could say I was surprised.
the link if you’re so inclined to go vote
(poll #16 might surprise you…not)

Honestly, I liked Lando when I was getting into F1. He was cute, kinda funny, and seemed to be friendly as well.
But in recent times it feels as if he has to constantly take shots at the drivers around him? Like with max when they had contact, Lewis in the cool down room, or that whole situation with Oscar (which admittedly was mostly McLaren's fault).
And today again. Idk if it's just me but it comes off as too cocky, and kinda annoying? Especially if it's against a supposed friend of his (at his home race no less). In comparison most of the other drivers seem to be more friendly or at least civil with each other...

Are we collectively aware that Norris is outperforming Piastri? Are we collectively aware that team orders exist in every team when they have a chance of winning the wdc?
let's keep it objective
Tumblr media
i would say piastri is a better, more consistent performer.
as for team orders, yes anon, we are aware that team orders have been a thing since the dawn of time. we are also aware that team orders have been enacted for drivers who were actually contending. norris has lost A LOT of points (refer to the sheet above) throughout the season because of unnecessary errors and poor starts. no other title contender has done that. it isn't fair in the slightest to restrict oscar piastri for the sake of feeding norris points to compensate for norris' mistakes instead of, i dunno, having him improve his form?
he's a talented driver, but you don't win championships on talent alone. look at verstappen, hamilton, rosberg, vettel, and everyone else all the way to 1950. were there team orders? certainly. were the champions making myriad unnecessary errors that had to be compensated by their teammate for them to have a chance at winning? no.
nobody likes team orders, but it would make more sense if this was a hunt or piquet or raikkonen or hamilton situation. but to bench a driver for one that can't hold his own ground? undeserved. gifted. et cetera et cetera. i'm sure you can understand why everyone isn't jumping for joy :)

Maybe if I had said this a few weeks ago I would've said I'm biased but I'm genuinely getting so sick of seeing the hate on Lando.
I don't like seeing hate on any of the drivers but I want to bring Lando up because people can't seem to shut up about him lately and it's never for a good reason. "He's an overrated driver" "Lando just bottles he's a bad driver" "there he goes again winning dotd" "watch him be a crybaby over this" "Lando fans are the worst fans"
Like does this not get a bit tiring? Especially when you publicly hate a driver with no reason to, no one thinks you're cool for being an asshole to a real life person. There's drivers on the grid that I don't like, there's drivers on the grid who piss me off to no end while they're on track but I think I have enough self awareness and respect on myself and the drivers to not go into a comment section saying "Lando is overrated --->"

when you watch lando's old footage back with his different teammates you can see his chemistry is so different with each and every one of him. you can see the observant and maybe nervous first year f1 racer that he was around carlos. the fire-meets-fire vibe that they brought, all the overflowing energy of being early 20somethings.
then you get the daniel era where it's honey and butter. both of them warm and charming and lando still learning from the other. but also lando also coming into his own as a racer and realising that he's not an imposter - he's on the level, if not better at that point, than the person who raced for red bull and has 8 GPs under his belt. even if that same racer seems a shadow of his former self at mclaren.
then you get the 2022 merry go round, and oscar. might as well be night and day when they first meet.
oscar, who keeps to himself, puts his head down and works. oscar, watchful and careful after the silly business with alpine. who probably knows he's coming into a buzzy environment with big personalities and huge expectations too - because who is this kid who had the audacity to basically flip off alpine? and via social media of all things (how very modern for an old-fashioned sport). how is this kid gonna make his mark on such a storied team, where the last win is almost now as old as him? what is he going to do with all that potential, right?
we love the machine, because we love watching the potential of a bright young thing fighting their way out of its jaws. lando was in there too, not so long ago, and the poison from that bite might still seep.
nobody knows what to expect. but lando gets to be the elder in the duo for the first time. lando's also going through a process in 2022-23 where he also seems to be entering a new phase of his life and realising some stuff about himself as a person too and what his priorities are. we'll never truly know what that process is (nor should we), but i think on this side of 2024 you can already see how he's handling himself out of it.
and we saw it maybe, in a bit of a smirk at oscar's first day for the car launch and oscar being late. a bit of wonder at oscar, who when suited up seems physically larger than what he remembers.
but then! oscar puts in the work. good chatter surrounds newbie and his working style, and oscar demonstrates maturity. he shows what a contender he is. that he's got his own approach, and he's ready, and – once the car comes – he starts backing that up with good results.
lando is competitive as hell on his own terms. but seeing a twenty one year old from the Reserve bench come in under er, fraught circumstances, then smashing out result after result from Suzuka onwards - surely that puts some fire under your ass in a big way. and! lando is someone who, i think despite his bad luck and lack of a win yet, is incredibly driven and has it in him to be a proper WDC contender. he has that quality. if his teammate is pushing him he's just going to push himself harder.
which culminates, interestingly, in soundbites we're getting recently. like the peter crouch interview, where lando says he's stopped DJ-ing because he's prioritising racing. not an easy decision to make i'm sure, and maybe one that would've happened without oscar's presence at mclaren anyway– but just one signal of where his headspace is probably at now and into '24. lando is also much more reserved about the soundbites he's giving lately (like "i'm not making any race or win predictions anymore and i'm taking things as they are because predictions haven't come true for me in the past, there's too much expectation on myself" etc etc.).
you might even describe it as... maturity.
and guess who has been described as incredibly composed and mature by the mclaren team?
exactly.
