Join me on an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour as we unveil the intricate process of transforming rough rocks into stunning tumbled stones in our very own stone yard. The adventure begins with a visit to the crusher, where we carefully select the perfect stones that set the stage for a remarkable tumble. Witness the importance of size uniformity as we explore the sieve that separates stones into distinct sizes, laying the foundation for a flawless tumbling experience.

Next, discover the grit that kickstarts the shaping phase in the fast tumbler, a colossal barrel that processes almost 1000 kg of rocks, shedding 50% of their weight as they undergo a rapid transformation. Follow the stones through the slow barrel tumbler, where rounded corners take shape, creating the perfect canvas for the next stages.

Journey with us to the shaker, where a finer grit and the vibro shaker work together to refine the stones' surface, leading to a week-long stay in this intricate phase. The final chapter unfolds in the polish vibro shaker, where aluminum oxide or tin oxide work their magic, bestowing a brilliant shine upon the stones.

AMETHYST IS DURABLE, BUT STILL NEEDS CARE

As with aquamarine, prolonged exposure to heat and light can cause the color to fade. The intensity of purple amethyst can vary depending on the part of the crystal. Amethyst is a durable gemstone, but some care is required to maintain its natural brilliance and color.

Amethyst has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and is generally considered good enough to make almost any kind of jewelry. Accidental scratches or abrasions from other gemstones of the same or higher hardness can damage it.

STORE YOUR AMETHYST IN A SECURE JEWELRY BOX

It is best not to wear amethyst jewelry during an activity or in places where this may happen. Long-term storage of amethyst and amethyst jewelry is best stored in jewelry boxes or other shaded places. Amethyst usually exhibits a gamut of colors, with the most intense color usually appearing at the ends of the crystal.

Consider the Cabochon Prior to the lapidary art of faceting, gems were mostly cut and shaped into cabochons: the smooth and convex polishing of gemstones. Opaque gemstones, softer stones and those with inclusions that are characteristic are still featured this way. I enjoy the ‘feel’ of gemstones. To some folk, tactility is still an important characteristic and cabochons give those sensations freely. If you are ever caught without a jeweller’s loupe, never fear! You still have your phone 😆 Yes! with current technology, our smart phone’s camera can do an awesome job to zoom in! Again, I want to strongly emphasis that it’s very common for gemstones to have naturally occurring kink (Usually these are bubbles or inclusions that surface while faceting) and it’s perfectly normal.
