my latest tenso package came in!!
Tumblr media
first thing i see after removing the air packaging is shulegs. real unmei moment.
the way the clear file was packed is kinda concerning, as it looks like it's just slightly too big to fit perfectly and one of the corners got bent upward...
Tumblr media
but it'll probably be fine after i flatten it under something heavy for a day or two.
so here's everything unplastic'd!
Tumblr media
the tcg cards spooked me for a second because i was looking at claude's face through the plastic sleeve and turned him over and saw a weiss schwarz blau card back and i was like !?!??!?!??!??!? until i remembered yuto was in there too lol. claude will be joining my two byleth cipher cards, and i think it'll be cute if i surround yuto with my bandori weiss schwarz cards so it looks like he has an audience 😊
the reiji title pin surprised me with how big it is!!! for some reason i thought it'd be like 3cm wide at most, but it's 6.5cm across and almost 2cm tall!! guess it's to make sure the dense kanji are more legible in itabags and stuff. i only got this title pin since i didn't care as much for the wording of the other one, plus this one is the higher ranked title in dbes so i'm showing the proper amount of oshi-ism 😎
soooo happy to finally have the janus reiji and lrfes shu tickets. when i first decided to start collecting, these were the items i wanted most, as they're my favorite cards for each of them in dbes and the frame design is really beautiful for them!! i love the dots in reiji's romanized name forming an elegant little arc, and the holo elements are really vibrant and gorgeous. i'm going to try my best to make these stand out on my board arrangement since they're so special to me.
confession: i had little idea what the egoistic才Φ shikishi even was when i ordered it. i was just like "song jacket art in some kind of collectible form? add to cart" but i really like it!!! now i want the yume no ato one too lol. there's something really satisfying about nice cardboard (<- predictable words of a collector)
not much to say about desfes sol except that its disc case is identical to the pwy s-sol case, so if i go through with customizing them it's nice that they'll match. not sure if these are original cases or supplied by suruga-ya.
the real prize of this batch is my beloved original reiji acrylic stand, who i never thought i'd be able to obtain for less than 3k... instead i was pointed to a 330 yen listing— unopened!— on some secondhand shop i'd never heard of (lashinbang) and i ordered this thing faster than when i got a stock alert for the tears of the kingdom collector's edition.
Tumblr media
interestingly, he appears slightly shorter than suit reiji! it might be the pose though. the art printing quality is also lower, which i'm chalking up to its age in the franchise history, as they probably had a lower budget for merch back then. i won't be looking that close though, so no problem!
his matching kusogaki is on the way, so for now he gets to stand between the suits like a king.
lastly there's the clear file; it has this odd offset effect around the character art and i'm not sure if it's a printing misalignment or intentional or what.
Tumblr media
but who cares look at how cool it looks when i put it in front of the window light!!!!
Tumblr media
so that's everything!! i've got a buyee order coming soon so i'm holding off on rearranging my board til then. i'm gonna go watch the desfes disc 🌸

Hello
Sorry to bother you, but I checked out your DJ, and I did the whole process with toranoa. I live overseas, but I noticed that with the buyee, it doesn't allow adult (r18) to be shipped over. Were you able to bypass that?
Hello, darling!
You're not bothering me at all, don't worry 😊
I live overseas too, but I've never used Buyee before. I've always used a proxy service to get my stuff because it's easier for me that way (I buy things from a lot of different websites so it would be a hassle if I had to create a new account each time I wanted to order something from a different web). I just had to pay for a small fee and they'll find those things for me. I always buy R-18 doujins LMAO and there hasn't been any problem for me so far.
If you're Indonesian, you can use this proxy service. I've used their service to buy doujins, figures, drama cds, and plushies before and all of my stuff come home safely. It will take around 1-2 months for the items to arrive, but the process is very easy.

btw i will be completely honest i did not wholly understand the concept of addiction until i came to japan. and no this isn't because the alcohol and cigarettes are CHEAP and super easy to get your hands on (something something strict law call for specific vices in society), but because i found out that manga is significantly cheaper than back home and that bookoff discounts the already-cheap volumes of manga as low as 110円 (like, NZ $1.30). like that's insane. i am never buying manga from a proper 本屋 at this point like its bookoff all the way babey......
anyway my collection so far is:
Various oneshot BL manga I already liked before I came here
Vol 1-7 of WHA + vol 1 of WHA Kitchen
Vol 1-3 of Akane-banashi (i didn't buy these... a friend gifted them to me for my birthday... i cherish them so deeply...)
Vol 1 & 2 of Blue Period
Vol 1, 2, 4 of Kimisomu
Hanadoll* Flowering (manga adaptation of drama cd series 1 vol 1? i believe?)
and do not even get me started on the pricing of butai disks at lashinbang & bookoff because i fully got a copy of tsukisute yumemigusa in kobe for like, 10 dollars.... the "sorry yoru if this looks gay to the viewers" butai is in my possession...

This feels like something a content creator would do, but I kinda want to show off the various things I have in my anime binders. I could list the various categories and numbers to choose from and let people pick X of them to see like a random lottery?
For perspective, I have like 150 clear files, 60+ acrylic stands, ~60 placemats, 70+ coasters, a whole smattering of post cards/stickers/small things...
9 binders (two are portfolios), 6 small binders for acrylics, plus a lot of small items that aren't stored away and live around my desk. Oh and 5 bins of manga filled to various partial capacities.
Which, aren't really that many compared to hardcore collectors, but the coasters are rare since they only are obtainable during cafes which are generally one and done...
Please excuse my incredibly cluttered office floor, a sampling of the binders and boxes

I think going to a lashinbang or a mandarake or any other secondhand store where you can possibly find old touhou doujinshis is an experience unlike any other when this is something you have an interest in. like yeah sure searching the shelves for half an hour I've had to look at some really REALLY freaky nsfw stuff but it's all worth it when I find a physical copy of a relatively obscure work I read on gensokyo dot org 13 years ago which played a part in my lesbian awakening

protip: buy the entire box set of 9 if you want guarantees lmao. otherwise you can also wait for second-hand stuff to appear on Mercari, Surugaya, Lashinbang, etc. (expect a Kanda Tax) The acrylic keychains are NOT blindboxes. foreign CC is not working for me, but Amazon Pay is (address must be put in with the site in Japanese)

Mannnn I'm currently in Tokyo and I can tell you there's SO MANY DOUJINSHI WTF AND THEYRE CHEAP AF. If you're gonna go to Tokyo and u wanna buy doujinshi, I recommend going to lashinbang and surugaya and animate in ikebukuro, they mostly sell doujinshi targeted towards gurls. The anime stores in Akihabara mostly sell doujinshis targeted to dudes.
I would've gotten lost and died were it not for Google maps.
Dude i get nervous being a different town let alone a different city i wouldn't have managed. be careful out there! I know for sure i'm not going there anytime soon.
bring me back a souvenir! Preferably a very rich tycoon ready to marry an emotionaly stunted dirtbag or a plushy i'm not too picky lmao

May 27- Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Monkey Park
Tumblr media
Being the insane monkey fan that I am (specifically the Golden Lion Tamarin is my favorite animal for which I maybe own a collectible mug), I was smiling nonstop whenever the monkey park visit was brought up. However, the bamboo forest visit was also not to be ignored. I actually really liked the way the light rain made it feel like a little rainforest. Despite this, was still thinking about the impending monkeys the whole way through. When we got there, I realized that it was the same park that the girls from K-On! visited so I was even more excited. I really loved how comfortable they seemed just walking right up to people, and I took lots of pictures of monkeys just chilling either by the waterfall or on trees in front of the view of the city. Feeding the monkeys was also very fun, as even having the monkeys look expectantly at me had me laughing pretty hard. After I stuck around at the park for a bit, I decided to head over to the Teramachi market just to finally have a slow stroll through all the stores. Despite everything I did in my power to stop myself, I headed in to Lashinbang, one of the anime stores, just to “look around” (I bought three more figures). I finished my day walking through all the food stalls and buying random Japanese street foods along the way. Today was definitely a good change of pace in terms of activities that very much match my interests.
Academic Reflection
Tumblr media
The reading about the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest largely involves an analysis of how its methods of preservation have evolved throughout history. One very obvious thing that stuck out to me in this forest was its relative seeming lack of biodiversity compared to the typical forests seen covering typical mountains in Japan. The pictures I took of just the forst alone are only filled with bamboo as far as the eye can see. As such, it made sense that the reading stated that the current uniform nation-wide system of forest management is not sufficient to conserve Arashiiyama.  It would not have been much of an activity if it was not unique, but this forest even purely looks like the type of place that would need some degree of specialized expertise in its management.
Tumblr media
The two other readings were different excerpts from the classic Japanese play “The Tale of Genji”. The portion of “The Shrine in the Fields (Nonomiya)” that describes that physical apparerancea hig appearance of Ninomiya shrine had me seriously thinking how long such a simple tradition as a log wood torii has been maintained. This preserved name and descritption after so many years places Japan on another level of understanding in terms of patience for those who want to learn about local culture.

Day 9 ACTIVITIES
Ueno Park: Honestly, we didn't do much besides walk walk walk and visit a temple and a shrine. There was a stand selling things like squid and octopus skewers, but I didn't give it a chance. I was close, but not yet, I'm not ready to be adventurous! Shinobanuzo Pond did look really nice and the area wasn't too crowded. I wish I could've seen the Ueno Zoo though. That would have been super fun... Tokyo National Museum: We only spend about an hour here, but it was more than enough time for me to look at all the exhibits, recharge and recover, and even browse the gift shop. There were a lot of cool things on display, from samurai armor, to swords, to poetry and old drawings. The thing that stood out to me the most was the exhibits on incense. I noticed two cool things - an incense cabinet with aquatic plants and a writing box with an incense motif. Personally, I think incense smells great and should be used more often. At my church back in Gainesville, we use it on special occasions and I've noticed the incense smell at some shrines and temples so far here in Japan. I find the smell relaxing and I can understand using it while writing - it helps relax oneself and open the mind up, allowing for more creativity and flowing through words. Ameyoko Street: Gross tourist trap! I saw a rat crawling in the street! Yuck!!! Lunch: Apparently today's theme/craving was "Logan Wants the Meat Sweats." I ran, not walked to Kurauzo to get a bunch of hamburg steak. I ordered the 400g combo and it came with 2 steaks - one covered in demi glace and one covered in cheese sauce. It was, without any doubt or question, delicious as hell and a really great lunch. I even combined the sauces and dipped my rice in it afterward. Strong 9/10. After lunch, I got a pineapple smoothie that was pretty good. I'm in pretty good spirits. Akihabara: I got more anime figures! Joining my Ritsu figure are a 6-mini-set of Lucky Star characters and a Goomy figure. Thank you Lashinbang for your service. No more figure shopping for me (unless I find Nichijou or Clannad!!!). I also won my first UFO claw machine game here - I got a slime plushie for only 600 yen!!! Dinner: It's been a week in Japan, and I'm starting to get homesick. But hey, that's nothing a visit from the barbeque comfort food fairy can't fix. I did not expect to find authentic American barbeque in Japan, but here I am writing about it. I took the Hibiya Line to Big Iowa BBQ, a spot in Roppongi dishing out true authentic American BBQ. The second I stepped into this place, I knew it was legit. Beer beer beer, a map of Iowa where Iowa residents get their photo taken and place a pin, country music blaring from the loudspeakers. This is home. The staff spoke perfect English to the point I could use my American English with them. It felt right at home. I ordered the combo and it came with pork belly, pork ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket. On the sides were shoestring fries, mac n' cheese and Texas beans (it was closer to chili than baked beans but whatever). Everything shined on this platter. The brisket was seriously some of the best I have ever had. The mild BBQ sauce helped the pulled pork shine way better. The ribs and pork belly were delectable. The cheese sauce for the mac n' cheese was addictive and the Texas beans were comforting. I even ordered some pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. This meal screamed America at the top of its lungs and it was exactly what the doctor ordered. If it weren't for Yuragi giving me that "food critic in Ratatouille" moment, this would be #1. It's a steaming hot 10/10 and I'm okay with it being #2 overall. I rolled into the taxi and gravitated to my hotel room, where I am now.
