Breaks my heart to hear about the death of Peter Tork! My favorite show to watch when I got home from school was #TheMonkees (on repeats on @nickatnitetv). It didn’t make me the coolest kid in middle school but I didn’t care. It formed a bond between me and my mom who loved them in the 70s. And years later when their songs ended up in movies like Shrek for my kids to enjoy it came full circle. Fun music for the whole family! CASH-GRAB QUICKIE GREATEST HITS, #3. Only curmudgeons wouldn’t like this imitation of what the sixties sounded like. Lots of gems and with the studio cats backing them up the Prefab Four sound great. Except on this cheapie off-brand album the mixes and mastering are all over the place. So some songs (Clarksville, Believer, Pleasant Valley) sound clear and great and some (a lot of the ones I don’t really know plus Daydream Believer) are sort of distorted. Look at all the famous songwriters who chipped in, though. And they’re ripping off *everybody* from The Who and Mamas and Papas to Kinks to Lovin’ Spoonful to obviously Beatles and mid-60s Stones. Everybody’s a source! It’s not copy-catting, it’s seeking multiple sources of inspiration! Then creating, uh, tributes! Glen Campbell, James Burton ( Elvis’s guitarist) Hal Blaine, Jim Gordon and the lads were so much fun! Peter Tork, the goofy one was my favorite. Later in my concert producing days we did a run on a play with David Jones . We did a play with David based on The Brady Bunch Episode called #gettingdavyjones he was a great fun! Sad he’s not here.
