I’ve been unmotivated for months. I haven’t picked up a pen, brush, or marker is months. Over the last 2 weekends I’ve slowly been starting to paint, stroke by stroke. I’m just doing whatever on the page with which ever medium calls to my little fingers… and it’s feels so good. . . Work has burnt me out beyond words and I also loathed the pressure to post on this platform every day or I’m going to lose followers or visibility, but I’ve come to the realization… who the F* cares. I enjoy artistic expression and I shouldn’t feel pressured to post for anyone but myself. . I’ve been inspired by @laurahornart and her use of textures, different mediums and her natural ability. 💕 GRATITUDE TURNS WHAT WE HAVE INTO ENOUGH 💕 . - Melody Beattie . My feed is a mess right now, I know. But it's a mess of my favorite things, so yeah, please bear with me. . Today I want to show you the cover and first page of my newest (3rd so far) Cosmic Smashbook. I choose gratitude as the theme and incorporated "Gratitude Feathers" I learned how to make from Cynthia of @mindfulcreativemuse. . When I saw this painting it took my breath away. I love that it’s an “abstracted landscape” and it also reminds me of a mandala. I recently read a book that encourages people to stare at artwork for three hours to see what happens (Creativity Rules @tinaseelig727) and this painting is it for me today. I love sharing and celebrating the artwork of others. Laura has inspired me today and I hope her work also speaks to you. I’m still reeling. So powerful! It’s another picture of tree! But wait... . It’s my first post in 2021! What’s new for me this year is a rekindled interest in fiddling with paint and paper! I signed up for a couple of online classes during the holidays and it’s been fun. . I still walk around gawking at trees, but the trees now also make it onto my paper & paint fun. While waiting for a layer to dry, I browse art books I’ve collected over the years and found inspiration. Not a bad way to keep myself amused. . 1. The tree I passed this evening on my way to pick up dinner. It’s more satisfying than my dinner but I think the craving for a takeout was just the universe calling me outside. - 2. What came out of following guidance from @laurahornart in her “Minimal Magic” class. She’s such a wonderful teacher with calming influence. - 3. @cecilbalmond (in his book: Elements) beautifully wrote about that feeling that goes through me when I’m looking at things, especially when I notice pattern in nature. It’s Saturday night and I’m in my studio, working on quite a large commission piece. I have a glass of torquay beside me, there are dogs laying at my feet, and I’m listening to the @laurahornart Podcast. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In other words, my ideal Saturday night. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I get asked a lot how I make time for art - amongst a full time job, family commitments, a gym schedule - but the answer is in the question. I make time for art, because it’s important to me. I make time for art, because I believe that it’s important to my mental health. I make time for art, because it gives me unbelievable joy. I happily sacrifice sitting on the couch watching Netflix for art. I happily sacrifice scrolling through Instagram for art. I (more than) happily sacrifice house cleaning for art. Sleep. Alcohol. Late nights. Early mornings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You put your time and energies into the things matter the most, and that’s art ♥️

Hi! I usually don't like abstract art, but I really get inspired by the talented @laurahornart and I couldn't hesitate myself! I did some tests and 3 pieces at the same time, and I think this one is the best one! I least when I see it I think "oh yes, it works!". Now I think about abstract art different, I didn't find any abstract artist that likes me but now there are an infinite of possibilities that I didn't know and I want to explore and apply this technique and style to my own work ✨. I hope you like my experiment!! 🎨💕 I used Daler Rowney ink (the reddish brown), holbein gouache, posca pen, watercolor and Lefrancybourgeois acrylic paint. --- A ver... ¿Os acordáis de el dicho que dice "nunca digas de este agua no beberé?" Pues esta soy yo interesándome por el arte abstracto!! 🙈 A ver, sigue sin ser santo de mi devoción, pero he descubierto una rama que sí que me atrae y que me resulta muy interesante. En concreto descubrí hace unos meses a @laurahornart y me gustó mucho lo que hacía y quise probar. Es muy relajante hacer este tipo de pinturas y he de decir que aunque lo parezca no es fácil que quede bien 😆! Que algo abstracto quede bonito tiene su teoría de composición y color. Creo que con esto aprendo cosas que puedo aplicar a mi estilo y eso me está gustando mucho! 💕 A lo mejor os parece un simple garabato (y un poco lo es!!). Well, this is a brand new experience/style for me but am loving the results! I recently took an online class @laurahornart called #abstractadventuring I have always loved abstract art but never knew how to do it. I love the idea of mark-making, too so this class was perfect! I needed inspiration. I have tons of ideas, but what next? When I finish a painting I sometimes take a day in between but often not. I needed a beacon I found that on Pinterest from the artist @laurahornart Her flowing style on the piece "Devine Growth" inspired me to interpret my own. Sometimes you need a nudge.
