Luck be a Lady: Spoilers & Drabbles

Based off of this prompt request!!

So yeah, here we go, spoilers for future LBL are below the cut!  If you liked this half as much as I do please give it a like, reblog, or both!

It was late May in Virginia, and Belvior was bursting with beauty.  The sun shone brightly in the sky, and the breeze that blew over the hills was light and warm.  The day was perfect.  So perfect that Adrienne found herself walking out from the manor with a light brown wicker basket in hand, on her way to meet Colonel Kosciuszko for a picnic.  

As she walked across the peaceful grounds of her childhood home, Adrienne hummed a tune to herself, one she remembers her mother singing to her as a child.  That was where she was headed.  Adrienne and Thaddeus would be able to hide away all afternoon together under the willow tree where Lawrence proposed to Anna, where her father would whisk her mother away after he returned from the assembly in Williamsburg.  Now, it’s where Adrienne and Thaddeus would spend the one perfect afternoon for the rest of their lives alone with the soft songs of the cardinals and the sweet smell of honeysuckle on the breeze.

Approaching the spot where the tree sat rested a figure in blue sitting on the grass, head resting against its trunk.  The sunlight hit the man’s face from an angle, and Adrienne stopped in her path to admire the beauty of the dark-haired man.  He was so relaxed now, so peaceful she wondered if he had already fallen asleep where he sat.  A smile found its way to her lips, spreading across her fair-toned face, and she continued on, her white floral dress dragging behind her.

Thaddeus opened his eyes as a shadow shaded his face from the sun.  There she stood, in a way he had yet to see her.  The gown Adrienne wore was, frankly, as simple as could be.  The short train of the jacket covered the grass behind her.  The plain white dress had a pattern of flowers scattered across it, and they were the same color as the blue petticoat she was wearing.  To anyone else, this sight would be an odd one, the simple cotton fichu accompanying the gown contrasting all common beliefs about her modesty.  But to Thaddeus, this was his Adrienne, not the fanciful gowns she wore at camp or to social events, but rather the simple cotton dress and wicker basket.  She was beautiful, more beautiful than ever before, exactly as she was.  He started at her, wishing to forever preserve the memory of her like this.

Thaddeus was snapped out of his trance when Adrienne took a seat on the blanket he had brought and began to unpack the basket. “Good afternoon, my dear, I hope I didn’t wake you,” as she spoke, Adrienne was pouring two cups of lemonade out of a corkable glass pitcher, and as she finished, she handed him one.

The glass sat securely in Thaddeus’ right hand as his left hand reached out to Adrienne, caressing her cheek, “Oh, now my sweet, as long as it is you, I would never mind be awoken.” He smiled as her laughter filled the air around them.  That laughter was sweeter than any choir could ever hope to be.  

“You are staring again.”

“Of course, my apologies, madam.”

Thaddeus was staring at Adrienne with that adoring smile across his face again, eyes squinted to block out some of the sun as he continued to stare.  He cradled the glass of lemonade in his hands but shifted to only one as she extended a hand out to him.  Adrienne had intended on pulling his head into her lap, but he had the same idea and twice her strength.  She caved into his pull, resting her head in Thaddeus’ lap so that she was looking up at him from an angle.

His hands instantly went to her hair, fiddling with the rolled curls. “Why must you do this?” he asked, seemingly out of nowhere, emphasizing his claims as he pulled lightly on one of the curls atop her head.  

“You mean my hair?” He hummed in agreement, and she shook her head slightly, “Well, that’s an easy fix, my dear.” She reached up with a hand and removed the pins holding her curly gold locks in place, letting the hair fan out around her.  

“Amazing,” he breathed, “Truly divine, my love.” Adrienne swears that the childish grin on her face hasn’t left since the moment she arrived, but he was far from done with his flattery, “Greater than any angel in heaven, like a goddess divine.” 

“Careful there would hate for our afternoon to be ruined by the wrath of some aggravated ancient deities,” she giggled and reached up to undo the blue velvet ribbon that held together his queue.  As the ribbon came untied, his curls fanned forward into his eyes, causing the two of them to laugh. “There we are, now we match.  My soldier and I.”

“Like Ares and Aphrodite, my Lady and I.”

“Because we are lovers in secret, behind the back of my husband?”

“Because we are passionate lovers, so destined to be together that not even a marriage can keep us apart.”

She hummed happily in agreement, tangling her fingers in his hair, rolling his curls around her fingers.  Even as she remained intent, with her gaze focused on his face, his eyes were far away from Adrienne, even as they looked right at her. “You are thinking again.”

“Well, it is unfortunately not something a person can cease in doing, my sweet.”

“Of course they can, Colonel Hamilton does it all the time.  For whole weeks even.”  

Thaddeus snorted, “I’m sure you don’t mean that.”

“Oh, I do.”

Sighing, he smiled sadly down at her, “I was just thinking about how I wish it could stay like this forever.” He ran his hands through her hair as he continued, “No John, no secrets, just us, here together like we should be.  I want that.  I want that with you, Addy.”  

She frowned up at him, her brow creasing slightly with concern, “Well, that’s an awfully glum thing to think about.  I would like to think that my presence isn’t so horrible you must result to thinking such things.”

“No, madame, it is the delightful presence of yours that calls me towards such desire,” he sighed, “I never wish to leave it.” 

“Then don’t.”

“Addy-”

“For all we know, today is all we have.  For all we know, today is forever.  So spend it with me.” He hummed, agreeing with her statement.  She tugged on his coat, drawing his attention, “Will you just hold me?” She closed her eyes, the warm sun on her face, “Just right here, in the moment, for today.”

Thaddeus said nothing but shed his officer’s jacket and draped it over her like a blanket.  He then moved her head from his lap and laid down next to her.  Adrienne, who waited till he was settled before resting her head on his waistcoat, smiled with her eyes still closed when Thaddeus wrapped his arms around her.

And that was how Ona found them.  Adrienne with her face in his chest and his jacket around her shoulders, and Thaddeus in his waistcoat, an arm wrapped around her, and another underneath his head as a pillow.  And Ona thought to herself as she walked back to the manor, ‘They look just like Lord and Lady Fairfax.’

When they did awake, it was Thaddeus whose eyes opened first.  The unusual weight on his chest drawing his attention.  There was Adrienne, sound asleep on his chest, her hair fanned out across her back, atop the continental uniform jacket she used as a blanket.  She was beautiful like this, and suddenly he couldn’t breathe, and it wasn’t because of her head on his chest.  She was more beautiful than any woman he had ever seen, more beautiful than the mythical Helen of Troy, and he loved her.  Oh God, he loved her.  He loved her, and she loved him, and this love made them divine.  Aphrodite and Ares, caught in a dance of love and secrecy.  Passion on the basis of deceit and love so strong that it will fix the universe’s wrongs.

Creature Feature: The Beast of the Land Between the Lakes.

The woods grow silent. This silence spreads up from the roots of the trees, through the air to choke the birds and still the insects. Something gazes out from the shadows. Eyes glow a demonic red, it stands tall on two legs that end in claws. It looks like a horrid mix of man and wolf. A tortured howl tears from its maw, a sound that rings through the forest. The Beast Of The Land Between The Lakes is on the hunt.

The Land Between The Lakes, or LBL for short, is a national park located near Murray Kentucky. While many tourists will come away with stories of the picturesque landscape, the LBL is also known for much darker reasons.

The park is home to what the locals call, “The Vampire Hotel”. An abandoned building where murderer Rod Ferrell and his gang of misled youth came to drink each other’s blood. Ferrell is responsible for one of the worst home invasion murders in Florida history.  While playing host to blood drinking rituals would be bad enough, something much worse than Ferrell is rumored to still stalk the park.

The Beast of LBL is said to be over six feet tall, covered in hair with pointed ears. It has the head of a wolf, with long sharp teeth. Although it walks on two legs like a man, it can move silently through the trees.

The origins of the creature, which many who have seen it compare it to classic depictions of werewolves or dogman sightings, varies. One of them centers around a man who settled in the LBL sometime in the 1800s. He claimed to suffer from a nighttime sickness which would cause him to fly into rages that made him dangerous to be around. The man claimed it was passed down through the blood. Stories abound around him and his eventual descendants, all of which lived in the LBL until sometime in the 1900s.

Another possible origin for the creature comes from French traders. They spoke of legends about a loup-garou. A person cursed to change into a beast by a witch or as divine punishment for some crime. The poor soul would then be overcome with animalistic rage and a craving for raw meat. The traders feared the creature, not just because of its violent nature but because the curse could be spread to those that survived an attack.

There have been many sightings of the Beast Of The Land Between The Lakes throughout the years, even up to today. The most shocking of which is said to have happened in 1980. A family had decided to go camping in the LBL. What should have been an idyllic weekend, ended with the family killed and mutilated. The bodies of the parents were found torn apart, their pieces mixed together. Half of their child was found up a tree by park rangers.

To this day ranchers around the LBL who have been working with American Bison, report calves mysteriously going missing. Campers tell stories about howling and guttural screams from somewhere just beyond their campfires. One tourist, after a prolonged feeling of being followed, managed to take the above photo. Was it just a play of light and shadow on his imagination? Or was he almost another victim of the Beast Of The Land Between The Lakes?

Our last day was as usual learning about site clean up and how to place the AJS beans and LBL timbers. We learned about installing the installation foam for post gap. It is so amazing the over float dry foam. They look like an abstract sculpture. The last day was a lighter day. Learning how to use the nail gun is my exciting and favorite thing.

I am very grateful to all the people on the site and office that I got to shadow. I appreciate all the interesting activities and gain the new knowledges.

SPOTTED: ROMY HASSAN, the NINETEEN year old ACTRESS who’s currently working as LEILA DONOVAN on SUPERHUMAN. the blogs say they’re COQUETTISH and can also be DUPLICITOUS, but they also say SHE looks just like BRIDGET SATTERLEE so they might be full of it.

basically, watch out for this little trash can !

this sagittarius is the younger sister of parker and matthias and despite being younger she will fight anyone who tries to badmouth her family or talk ish ok. know that now. even if she’s talking ish herself about one of them on a bad day, you dont get to add to her family woes.

when she was a little babe, romy pretty much idolized parker, though ?? she used to follow her around like a little shadow. but then parker left for LBL and the show took off and she never came back. when she was old enough to understand fame and why her sister wasn’t with them all the time, romy grew a bit resentful with the way she now lived in her sisters shadow. but deep down, she really just hated that she had to share parker with the world. nevertheless, it caused her to find other ways to stand out even if that meant acting out.

a few years ago, romy’s own fame started with people’s exposure to her on social media and she thrived off of it. she’d landed a modeling contract and soon enough she was making headlines of her own.

knowing she’d had some familial connections to zenith as well as a small theater background of her own, she was urged to expand her resume and take a dip into the acting world like her siblings, auditioning for a small guest role on cm:mom.  while she didn’t get that part, she managed to somehow land superhuman about a month later.

and though, she tends to have a love hate relationship with her character, she enjoys the job a bit more than she really ever lets on.

playing her part in the hollywood fame game, though, that’s the easiest of them all for romy. which doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to people really with all the hassans now running rampant around zenith.

she’s really astute and great at manipulating people for her own advantage, but she’s so duplicitous and charming that you'll never really see that coming until it’s over and she’s all but through with you. she plays a lot of head games with people smh. youll think she’s in love with you one sec until she gets bored.

very hedonistic. screws people just as much as she drinks vodka. its a lot. and has gotten into some nasty party drugs.

just recently did a small stint in rehab bc of it. is trying to stay off the drugs, but is making up for it with the bottom of the bottle.

3. Museums & Malbec in Mona

After making it this far down the list, you’ve already visited many of the things to see and do in Tasmania. It’s time to reward yourself with a nice glass of red wine. Australia is known for having some of the best vineyards in the world. Head to Mona, just 12 kilometers north of Hobart, for some delicious red and white vintages.

5. See The Southern Aurora Australis

This is a pretty easy thing to do in Tasmania actually because it doesn’t require much advanced planning. The Southern Aurora Australis is breathtaking. More famously known is it’s northern counterpart, but the lights here can be just as bright. The Aurora are visible year round and they depend more on solar activity than they do Earthly activity, but if you’re lucky, you’ll spot them in Tasmania.

6. Hastings Caves & Thermal Springs

If you’re a lover of stalactites and stalagmites, than you’ll want to add the Hastings Caves to your list of things to do in Tasmania. These dolomite caves were formed millions of years ago and have spectacular formations inside. For the geo-formation nerds out there, you’ll find stalactites, stalagmites, columns, straws, and shawls.

If you’re claustrophobic, don’t worry, the spaces in these caves are generally quite open and you shouldn’t feel to contained at any time. There are also thermal springs nearby, so if the caves did stress you out at all, you can go soak and relax in hot mineral water.

7. See a Tasmanian Devil

Don’t deny it. Before you planned to visit the island and started figuring out what to see and do in Tasmania, you’re only understanding of it was that it’s home to the devil. We all watched the Bugs Bunny & Tweety show growing up and since we were children, we assumed that Taz lived in Tasmania.

Well, he does, and he’s pretty easy to spot. Although they’re quite endangered, you can see them in Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary near Hobart. You can also find them at the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo or Zoodoo 6 kilometers from Richmond. As non-zoo lovers, we prefer these options over actual zoos.

8. Stroll in Lavender

Visiting Tasmania near the beginning of the year? You’re in luck! One of the most unique things to do in Tasmania is taking a stroll (or having a picnic) in the brilliant violet-colored fields of Lavender that blanket the land in Bridestowe Estate in the far North.

The fields typically blossom in February, but sometimes you can see them as early as January.

9. The Hazards

No I’m not listing things to be careful about while on the island, this is still a list of things to do in Tasmania. The Hazards are actually a mountain range inside the Freycinet National Park and they are named after local whaler captain, Richard Hazard.

The Hazards one of the things to do in Tasmania that are best seen in the Golden Hour (along with Hobart’s Waterfront and Mt.Wellington). The rock formations come to life in the late afternoon (or early morning) sunlight.

10. Cradle Mountain National Park

This has long been one of the best things to do in Tasmania and most visitors to the island will want to make a trip here. Cradle Mountain National park is absolutely breathtaking and there are numerous trekking trails and hiking routes here. There are plenty of day hikes available, but the more intrepid will definitely want to embark on the incredible 6 day trek between Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair National Park.

This epic, but very doable trek could have easily been listed as it’s own thing to do in Tasmania. It’s not too challenging and can be done independently or as part of a group tour (prices start at around $3,000).

If you can only do one thing on this list of things to do in Tasmania, make it a visit to Cradle Mountain National Park and try to conquer the 6 day trek if you have time.
