I'm gonna take "books" loosely—some of the pieces of writing that have affected me most were short stories. In no particular order:

1. "There Will Come Soft Rains", Ray Bradbury

is the house, broken, obsolete, and alone, still a house? the gentle death is far more painful than the violent one. oh shit i just realized how much this story influenced my d&d character

2. "A Fisherman of the Inland Sea", Ursula K. Le Guin

i have so many second-/third-generation immigrant feelings about this story. even if you could do it all again, better this time, there would always be something too late to be changed, it was already part of you... when you make a decision there's always something you leave behind... and then there's the ansible and the desperate futility of communicating with a world "you" cannot return to...

3. "A New Refutation of Time", Jorge Luis Borges

this one's an essay! well kind of also a prose poem. one of those works that found me at exactly the right time in my life to punch me in the gut. "The world, unfortunately, is real. I, unfortunately, am Borges." sooo true girlie.

4. Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer

i don't know what to say just please read this if you haven't. it changed the way i love

5. Pachinko, Min Jin Lee

i do enjoy a good intergenerational epic! despite spanning a century, each character was written with so much love and humanity. this book sat down in my stomach in 2018 and has not budged since.

6. The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer

7. Frankenstein, Mary Shelley

speaking of epics with ensemble casts whose humanity breaks me. there's nothing i can say that hasn't already been said. i love People

everyone shut up about victor. the creature is so fucking transgender. i cannot emphasize enough how transgender the creature is. envisioned as Adam, cast as Satan, yet so often paralleling Eve. conceived as the perfect man, meticulously designed, and rejecting the design. bristling against his own body. the monster is Creation itself, creating itself. but i didn't give you that option! none of us are given that option. <-part of an unfinished diatribe ignited by my ap lit teacher

8. A Tale Dark and Grimm, Adam Gidwitz

10. The Unfolding of Language, Guy Deutscher

a silly trilogy and not one i particularly enjoy as an adult, but i found it very cathartic as an unwell nine-year-old with violent fantasies.

9. Superman from the 30's to the 70's

i inherited my affection for Superman from my dad, mostly through this anthology. at one point i had the first couple issues in it memorized. i got some very strange ideas about crime from this book before i learned enough about the modern world to realize that's not quite how things work

words (and art and ideas and loss and transformation) are so fucking cool you guys. this was my comfort book as a tween but i honestly hadn't thought of it in a while. i should go back and reread it

Ah thank you so much for this lovely ask @cleverblackcat . I actually had to think about some of these, which was the point of the exercise of course! Hoping to see yours soon too! 18: Describe the setting of one or more of your wips Oh gosh.. *eyes twitches as I look at my WIP folder* .. For TWC I'm currently working on chapter 2 for "To break the Unbreakable" The setting for this is Catherine/Kitty struggling with her feelings for Mason when they explictely agreed they would keep it purely casual. Then there's Chapter 7 in Gwen's playthrough write-along (which, tbh, is now already 2 books behind and will probably never end). Currently the setting for this is pretty much still the beginning of Book 1 TWC *laughs somewhat nervously*.. so yeah.. The rest is under the cut ^^

24: Do you have/want a career in your medium? If not, what do you do/want to do instead? Ah, that ship has well and truly sailed. It's definitely a hobby for me, both the writing and my dabbling in digital art on the side. I really want to learn to work with software like CSP and PS, but I don't have the patience and dedication it takes to become an artist. Out of the two, writing has always been my first love, ever since I first started scribbling my little make-believe stories in my notebooks at age 9. 25: What’s your favourite genre to write? Is it also your favourite genre to read?

Fiction, with my favourites being Fantasy in any shape or form, although high-fantasy/medieval fantasy and Urban fantasy are at the top. Gothic/Horror next and SF/Crime after that. Although tbh I enjoy pretty much any well written (fictional) story. Anything that helps me escape reality for a bit. And yes, both for writing and reading.

26: What are your favourite books?

This pretty much changes with the latest book I read, there are so many amazing ficton authors out there. I love epic stories, seeing that there's more than 1 book instantly gives me a sense that a world is worth investing in, that I won't get invested in characters who will just be gone in 400 or so pages. So for that reason:

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. The first fandom I ever got heavily involved in and my first foray into fan-fic writing.

The Earthsea trilogy by Ursula le Guin

Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop

Any of Robin Hobb's books

A song of Ice and Fire (GoT) . Read this before it became popular and always loved the characters and the world (George R. Martin)

Kingkiller Chronicles (Patrick Rothfuss)

Malazan Book of the Fallen (Steven Erikson)

Any of Terry Pratchett's books.. I mean.. c'me on.

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant/Mordant's need by Stephen Donaldson It's honestly painful to pick and choose, I also have great admiration for Brandon Sanderson, Neil Gaiman, Joe Abercrombie, Jack Vance, Stephen King, Tanith Lee ... the list goes on and on. 11/17/22: my foreword...the beginning

 hmm...

 I made this account sometime in late september of last year purely for finding more artwork or content of a show called Alien 9 (you can find the singular, untouched blog that I found and followed if you sleuth in my followed list). Beyond scrolling for maybe a total 40 odd minutes, I hadn’t really bothered to use my page or make any blogs -  I was preoccupied with lots of schoolwork and if I wanted to find art I’d just use Twitter or Pixiv. 

 Tumblr previously was to me, in 2016, “that sjw site that gets epically owned kek style by le epic 4chan”, and after 2016 was just a site where that suburban white mom live laugh love type of aesthetic grew from then spread to pintrest or whatever. 

 A year on from this, I start entertaining the idea of using this one or making a new blog for posting things I wanted to post, i.e., use it as some sort of online and public diary. Sometimes I’d chat about it to a friend; bringing it up in passing from time to time never without some sort of mention of how I hadn't or didn’t plan to use it in the future tacked onto it. That year (this one and the one before it) had been pretty shitty years, so it might’ve felt good to start spilling my head out onto some (metaphorical) paper while I ignore most of the shit I have to do. 

 Like many things in my life, I never actually think to act on something unless it’s waved right in my face. A day or two ago I kept hearing about how Twitter might “shut down” or something akin to that. I hadn’t been following the le epic dogecoin tesla guy takeover of whatever freaks made and ran twitter, and most of the time on both the web and that site in general, many people seem to blow shit waaaaayyyy out of proportion. more recently than that was multiple artists I liked following posting their other links; half of them being tumblr blogs. Today seeing some of them gave me some pause...I should maybe make that blog now...

 I plan to post purely for myself and don’t expect an audience to develop (however it develops here) but I will try to use the site’s features to their fullest extents, so my shitty posts will eventually flood a handful of tags. Maybe I can make a friend, too? 

 All dated content will be posted in MM/DD/YY.

So, it is I, Hel Phoenyx. You'll see my partners, friends and metamours calling me by my real name but if we are not well acquainted please don't. This is making me uncomfy.

I'm a 2000. It will be better than to update my age. So both on the old and young part, and I get either the best or the worst of both worlds-

Currently in a big-ass polycule that are worth mentionning here because I flirt, laugh with them or callout them quite regularly, even if one of my gfs out of two partners is not on Tumblr. What can I say, I love trashtalking (/pos) the metamours~

I have one sideblog, @creator-from-hel, where I keep all my art and only my art (and this is mostly with this account that I interact with reblogs of said art). Other than that, everything is a complete shithole and my tags are not enough to track down my content.

As for my interests, the only thing not going away after a few weeks are my own creations. So that's also the only thing I tag.

Currently I have three fully fledged universes, one my own only and two shared with my friends.

For a quick little presentation :

We got Lysara IbRu'Aël, Azilis' Chronicles and La Peste Moderne.

Lysara IbRu'Ael is a fantasy saga stemmed from the deepest darkest dephts of Wattpad. Originally created with four people (me, @azeler and two other people I don't have the tumblr) it evolved until the Almighty Gf, @thal-ent and some other people that I do not go out with joined, and that's when we started truly writing the saga. Only one left active on that group are currently me, Az, Thal and the gf. The metamours came here later to do ttrpg campaigns in the universe or help us expand on the lore.

End with the creation story, let's start with the story : Lysara is a fantasy world heavily litterature-based where gods are Words and Words shape the world. The main saga follows my character Lina Frosilaen through an epic quest (several, in fact) but Lysara as a whole is a complete universe with LOADS of lore.

Next, Azilis Chronicles, is my personal trilogy. Its roots are very close from Lysara but Azilis took a whole other direction in terms of lore and construction of the world, so even if the characters are the same, fundamentally they are not.

It's still a fantasy world tho, with the same core principles as Lysara, but less litterature-based and more developped in the direction I would have taken Lysara, would I be the only one behind it.

And lastly my second shared universe with the partners, the metamours and LOTS of friends, a heavily-Danganronpa-inspired real world setting named La Peste Moderne !

To put the basis, La Peste Moderne is a world where geniuses are more and more common. But geniuses are also afflicted with a disease that nobody can comprehend, powerful enough to make them aggressive and push the world towards its end : Despair.

To counter that, the Japanese gouvernment had an idea (there is more lore behind it but no spoilers) : Organize each year experimental killing games, where sixteen geniuses are forced to kill each other and navigate through an incredibly hostile setting. This would allow to control the population of geniuses, and see how they react to Despair to at the end of it, give a solution against the world ending.

My stories in there are Le Bal des Pantins, The Art of Creating Hope and Abyss of Despair, but I also had involvment in three others as of right now.

Tags are #lysara for anything Lysara-related, #azilis chronicles for the Chronicles and #la peste moderne for everything that falls under La Peste Moderne. in there I have specific tags for my three stories but they're kind of irrelevant.

As for the rest... I am a ttrpg player, enjoy a lot of video games, is very into Pokemon Black and White, was an avid reader but now is more of an avid writer, and my fandoms can vary a lot so I don't tag them.
