Die Hard and Other Problems - A Dead Poets Society Oneshot

In which Charlie is a Jake Peralta kinnie, Neil is in his RENT era, and Cameron wishes he’d gone to any other Christmas party.

“Die Hard is, undeniably, the best Christmas movie.”

They’ve had this argument before. Charlie’s never succeeded, but he sure as hell won’t stop trying.

Cameron groans, facepalming, and Meeks closes his eyes with an exasperated sigh. Pitts takes the smarter route, and ignores him.

To Charlie’s right, on the long red couch in the Overstreet family TV room, Neil bolts up from his place curled into Todd’s side, the bells on his “Don We Now Our GAY Apparel” ugly sweater jingling.

“How could you even suggest that?! Everyone knows RENT is the most influential and iconic Christmas-related film in the history of cinema-”

“I like Elf.” Knox pipes up.

“We know, Knoxious,” Charlie snaps. “But cmon, Die Hard is just better!”

Cameron raises his eyebrows, fed up. “Dalton, have you ever actually seen Die Hard?”

Charlie sighs. “No, Cameron, not technically, but it’s just so fun to get Neil going like that!”

Todd hides a chuckle as his boyfriend gapes, inner drama queen unlocked.

Knox squeezes Charlie’s hand. “Sit down, babe. We decided on Elf yesterday.”

Charlie grumbles and pouts, muttering under his breath. “Some Christmas Eve this is. Not even drunk. Stupid movie.”

But still, he sits, head drooping onto Knox’s shoulder.

Knox grabs the remote, but after a minute of searching, he turns back to the others.

“So. One issue. I probably should have checked earlier, but it slipped my mind. We…don’t actually own Elf. How about Love, Actually?”

An uproar rises through the other boys. Neil shouts something about Knox doing this on purpose. Charlie chants “DIE! HARD! DIE! HARD!” Pitts quietly suggests The Muppets Christmas Carol. Cameron simply stands up and leaves.

Todd smiles. This is what the holidays are about, right? The domestic chaos, paired with petty arguments and useless pranks. Despite it all, they’re a family. And Todd wouldn’t have it any other way.

But though he’ll never tell, deep down, he really does wish they’d gone with The Grinch.

THEY WERE TOLD TO COMPLY TO THE RULES ABOUT BATHROOMS AND THEY DID AND THEY WERE STILL BEATEN TO DEATH. BECAUSE IT HAS NEVER BEEN ABOUT BATHROOMS AND BIOLOGICAL SEX. IT IS ABOUT SILENCING AND ENDING US.

trans kids are not safe anywhere. terfs and transphobic influencers teach children to hate their peers and people DIE. i hope terfs know that they are the reason people die. nex's blood, and the blood of thousands of trans kids who have been killed, abused, and ended their own lives, are on your hands.

im at drag queen trivia at our local queer run cafe and this is fucking magical. im so used to queer culture being mean hot popular alt gays but there are 11 year olds shouting that the poc trans queen is slaying diversity and rocking her weave and theres mitski playing and people are nice!!! people are loving and its a community theres old lesbians and a middle schooler in a fursuit and someone said they liked my mcr shirt and its punk and soft and covered in glitter and its beautiful

there are palestinian kids who should be in school, getting ready for a new semester. they should be procrastinating their homework, texting their friends. they should get to go home when they feel unsafe or upset.

instead, the school year was suspended on november 6th. over 200 schools have been bombed. more than 7,870 children have been killed. kids do not have a safe place. anywhere. their homes are being destroyed and their schools are being destroyed and the places they used to hang out at and eat at and shop at and pray at and mourn at and live at are actively being destroyed

people of palestine, of all ages, should be living their lives. they should be having normal experiences. they should be going to the movies or redecorating their rooms or celebrating birthdays or scrolling their phones for no reason. but they’re not. they’re not allowed to have the comfort of mindless human joy without constant threat and fear and bloodshed, and it is the fault of israel, the united states, and other fucked corrupt governments.

there have been close to 20,000 palestinian deaths, almost 2.2 million people displaced, and an estimated half of those people face starvation.

we need to fucking do something. the fact that the US still refuses to support a ceasefire is disgusting and evil. the claim that all anti-israeli statements are based in antisemitism is hurting both the people of palestine and jewish people worldwide.

here’s some things you can do:

-donate if you can or ask someone you know to donate

-sign a petition to demand a ceasefire

-fill out a form to email your representative. then do it again. then do it again. then do it again.

-boycott and avoid all companies on this list that you can (especially now that the holidays are rolling around: buy from independent stores, non-big name brands)

-spam text your friends and family with this post and these links

-reblog to spread awareness, interact with other posts that give instructions for direct action, follow palestinian voices

-instead of feeling guilt or denying yourself personal happiness, do all you can to make a difference. it doesn’t matter if you don’t have money to donate or if you’re a minor. you can always contact representatives or sign petitions

those queer kids who say “oh it’s the ‘tisim” every they do something cute and quirky and yet make fun of and mistreat actual autistic people for displaying actual autistic traits make me sick.

there are too many people who use “autism” as a word to sound aesthetic or cute within their neurodivergent queer circles but still make fun of the girl who has shared about her diagnosis and struggles picking up when people don’t want to talk to her.

they still see it as “gross” when the boy that sits behind them keeps making noises as a form of stimming.

they shit talk the person they think isn’t fashionable enough only because that person struggles so much with fabric texture that they only have a few outfits they can tolerate.

you need to stop using autism as a way to sound cute and you need to stop being shitty to people for not being up to your standards of normal.

self diagnosis is wonderful and not a bad thing, but if you don’t do any actual fucking research and simply go “oh i’m neurospicy and quirky therefore i can go around telling everyone i’m autistic” is NOT OKAY.

it’s so hypocritical. not only do these people use autism as a way to sound cute and then act like assholes, but within the queer community especially, shouldn’t we be embracing differences?
