thanks for tagging me @xanthezhou
rules: tag 10 people you want to know better
favorite color: pink, but the color I identify with the most is #4100ff . Or, you know. Similars/close to it.
song stuck in your head: this goddamn acappella mario medley of all things
last song listened to: dance the night by dua lipa
3 fav foods: chocolate/nutella, hamburgers, rice
last thing I googled: remove bg <- is doing college stuff
dream trip: Japan. All over it if possible, but I heard Osaka has the best food so that part kinda excites me the most.

Since you mentioned Thunderbolt Fantasy, I am legally obligated to share this with you: youtu(.)be/YIinYYtGWXc
Hahaha, but of course! I'd seen it before, but I still find it hilarious that this crossover exists. Especially the part where they fast forward through Kyuubey's technobabble. This kind of nonsense is exactly what I meant when I commented that Thunderbolt Fantasy is a fun time! XD
Turns out Urobuchi can write some pretty silly stuff when he's not taking everything so seriously.
Anyway, for anyone who hasn't seen that video, or who likes Madoka Magica and wants a taste of what Thunderbolt Fantasy looks like (it's Taiwanese puppetry rather than a 2D anime), here it is:

Can't say I kept up with you all this time, unfortunately I dropped off around the time you said you were shelving this project for good. Glad you all kept it up until the end though.
thanks! now you can simply binge read the entire thing.

I doubt she's dead for real. Too much of a fan favorite imo.
Man, on one hand I’d like for this to be true
On another, I’ll lose (more) respect for this game if they can’t actually commit to killing off characters and keep resorting to fake outs

Not sure about Madoka being remembered today for being “#toodark”. Like, a lot of people have described how it’s about holding hope to fight for what’s right in spite of thing feeling dark.
oh i definitely don’t mean that as a general consensus so much as a take i’ve seen fairly often on tumblr. i’ll be honest, i don’t totally know how it’s remembered outside my own tumblr bubble.

Hey, not sure if you're new around here, or I just haven't seen you all that much (no snaa pun intended), but I must say that I love your analyses. Keep up the good work.
hey! i’ve only had this blog for a couple months :3b thank you very much!!! i’ve got a whole bunch of stuff i wanna write about, and hopefully i’ll be able to put more words together for it. i’m also doing a replay of the game on a second account via emulator, so there’ll be commentary on those posts too. i wanna say i’ve loved your analyses since i first started seeing them, but i’m a doof and kept forgetting to follow XD

leafbladie replied to your post: Working on watching Magia Record again and like… I...
What’s wrong with Sana’s story? Also, they cut MadoHomu, so I think that was a great call
pacing abysmal, scene transitions abhorrent, nothing outside of the backstory drop makes a lick of sense... I haven’t felt that tortured watching an episode since I suffered through the first half of sailor moon R. It’s not like the usual artsy beauty that sucks you in for the pmmm series, it’s just bad.
I think Mami is the only one that had any business being in season one, in terms of storyline necessity, but she also could’ve been written out and replaced with Kuroe at the same time. Kuroe was like... introduced and then subsequently ignored.

I think S1 of SAO is mostly trash, but did you ever check out S2 (the one with Sinon and Yuuki). I really love those 2, and think it shows a great improvement over the first season.
Oh yeah I did watch it. Still garbage, but made some improvements.

leafbladie reblogged your post:the magireco team trying to push iroha/yachiyo as...
I mean, with Iroha’s personal story they seem to also give her a lot of mom energy as well.
iroha and yachiyo fight for true mom friend superiority lmao

What do you think of Magia Record S2 so far? I've been liking it a lot more now that Inu Curry can deviate from what the game story has established and move at their own pace.
Haha, wow, nice timing on this ask! I was about to mention Magia Record in a state of the blog post, but I’ll talk about it here instead.
Because yes, I’ve been incredibly surprised and happy with MagiReco’s Season 2 so far! And for similar reasons as you - I think Doroinu does a better job writing the characters than the game did, so the anime diverting from the game to allow him to do his own thing at his own pace was an excellent choice, in my opinion.
I’m also very intrigued by the subtle little changes scattered here and there. Does Nemu still retain some memories, implying she’ll have more of a unique role than just Touka’s yes-girl? Will we actually get to see Doppels have side effects? And what on earth is Kuroe’s role in all of this?
I’m legitimately excited to find out, which is something I never expected to be saying after Season 1!
Meanwhile it seems like the long delay since Season 1 has allowed Shaft to go absolutely ham with the animation. The fight scenes so far have been a blast, and of course the bizarre, dreamy witch world last episode looked amazing. (Also last episode: so many clever scene transitions! Doroinu sure must be having fun as a director! :D)
Anyway, good story and great visuals? I hope Shaft takes all the time they need, the delay was 1000% worth it!
That being said, as hype as I currently am, I’m very worried about whether the anime can sustain this quality. I don’t have a high opinion of the back half of the game’s plot, so the anime is going to have to put in double the effort - both adapting a story and simultaneously ironing out its flaws - in order to be a true success.
Still, probably the hardest part of that task was going to be starting up Season 2 and needing to both get the plot moving while reminding viewers about who these characters are and why they should care. And somehow, despite being set up to fail with a lackluster (in my opinion) Season 1, Season 2’s first three episodes didn’t just pass that test, they made it look easy.
Here’s to a good episode 4!
