#kirby #kirbear #plushies #daily kirby #my art #digital #hal laboratory #nintendo #I've been slowly repairing my baby blanket #unpicking all the decades of old stitches and everything.#she's actually in incredibly good shape for her age #but her edges are giving out #so I unpicked the old hems and put a border on her #and darned the corner that was too destroyed to reach the border #I still have to unpick and redarn the hole torn by my childhood cat #(weird little fun fact: my baby blanket is genderfluid for some reason?)#(right now she is her and she has been her in the past but she has also been him in the past.)#it's a lot of work because I have to finish whole chunks at once so she's stable enough to sleep with at night #I can't leave big raw vulnerable edges just because I'm tired #but it's mostly done now #(and yes I took a couple little videos of her old repairs because they were a part of her. especially the oldest ones.)#there's lots of people who do stuffed animal restoration and stuff but I haven't found anyone that does baby blankets :(#so I'll just learn to do it myself.

Something kind of funny I never anticipated about crocheting with longer hair was pulling out a piece of my own hair out of my project that I somehow crocheted into it

HAIR in every stitch #also i'm watching a video about knitting (war-time knitting specifically) and it's sparking memories #i forgot the sheer effort that was getting women to knit for soldiers (understandably because i wasn't alive during those wars but still)#molly was my favourite american girl book and i think that's where i first learned about that as a kid????#but those books weren't mine they were just family books and i LOVED reading fiction back then #and i really liked the historical aspect to those books in the sense that they were about girls in specific historical periods #and they incorporated actual history in it - to the full extent i'm not sure because i haven't read them in close to ten years (idk)#and it's interesting to see just how many people - not even just women! - knit for soldiers #i'm learning now from this video the sheer number of other people who started in knitting #anyway this is why i'm begging men to also do fiber arts (watching a reel of a guy crochet a blanket and HELL YEAH BROTHER)

i love how crochet can't be replicated by machines. i encourage everyone to learn how to crochet

#yarn is super cheap if you can find it at yard sales and thrift stores #free sweaters and blankets and socks #the simple single stitches are super easy to learn. its time consuming but its nice when you just wanna keep your hands busy #put on a movie or show and in like an hour you can make a lot of progress without necessarily realising #its just good!!!!#rat talk

been sick with covid and passed out until 2-3pm these past few days trying to recover but now i feel a bit of energy i might try my hand at crocheting a granny square

#its a shell kind of pattern that uses two different wools #hoping i can hse this to learn how to switch wool (i dont count previous attempts because they. did not work.)#and also how to stitch with different gaps and a specfic pattern. then i can make more and use my new yarn needle to sew them togethet #first attempt is for a blanket. it will be a little one so im gonna make it for my kity #next im gonna buy some wool with my mum (the blanket will give me a good idea of how many to get) and make either a cardi or a sweater

we got the throw blankets out for fall and Piper has claimed one for her own. 90% of the time she is on the easy chair cuddling with the throw blanket. baby levels absolutely off the charts

Something I think is interesting is that on Ravelry, free knit patterns tend to be downloads and free crochet patterns tend to link to a blog post. Like to a noticeable degree, if I find a knit pattern I can usually download a pdf whereas the crochet patterns are free on blog pages with ads and you have to pay for a PDF without ads. Which I'm not even necessarily complaining about, I just think it's interesting

#disgruntled octopus #i am so fed up with my knitting that im going back to crochet and it turns out i dont really like crochet RIP 😔#slightly untrue. i like other peoples crochet.#but im pickier about it than knitting #and i also have less patience for learning new to me techniques and stitches etc #which leaves me with 'easy' or 'beginner' patterns and frankly a lot of em are ugly #or at least are ugly w the scrap yarn i have available and not really beautiful hand dyed wool #so im just like :/#whereas its p easy to make a knit stash buster that looks more put together imo #brought to you by me realizing i dont think i like the 200 stitch chevron blanket i cast on this afternoon
