Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that an Arvus Lighter should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground.
I love painting this scale so much. Progress feels so much faster and I don't get wrapped up in the detail like I do with 28mm GW minis.
I also had my first foray into using oil washes on these and, boy howdy, am I a convert now. The way they flow into the cracks and panel lines is so nice and convenient at this size. Pair that with the fact that they can be removed and cleaned up after with mineral spirits and I'd say oil washes are straight up magical.
These only took me so long because I kept stopping to drive them around my painting desk and make tank noises. Next up is a wing of Avenger strike fighters.
I have finally finished my Legions Imperialis starter box.
My box was short one base for the infantry, but I have gotten a replacement for it since I took this picture.
I think my favorite part of this game is painting the tanks. It's super easy and just fun to knock out a few tanks in an hour or so.
The Warhounds were also really fun to paint. It was my first time using traditional paints that were not metallic paints. I really love how they came out, and I just wanted to use some of the extra models so the Warhounds have a bit of scale.
Here's the whole box, Space Marines on the left and Solar Auxilia on the right.
Like all of the Titans I'm doing, its name is deliberately-bad Latin and can mean either "Dying Light" or "Light of Dying". Seemed appropriate for its level of laser spam.
While exploring some different shapes and styles for laser defense bastions, I was left with the conundrum of where to put garrisoning infantry stands when the roof is mostly laser. After noodling on it, I struck upon the notion of building plinth to provide conveniently infantry-sized platforms to represent troops occupying the structure.
The layout is taken almost entirely from the official Grimdark Terrain Dominator Prison Complex Xhi build, but I wanted to try and replicate the look of the now discontinued Imperial Bastion.
We also wound up using it as a proof of concept for pre-arranging the components in Blender and exporting to a flat .STL for printing, which worked reasonably well. Some minor artifacts due do to inadequate precision arranging the parts and I'm not sure it's actually that much of a time savings over hand assembly, but the finished product is rock solid and looks great on the tabletop.
2023's painting output, 137 models in total. Slightly down from last year's 162, but last year I didn't paint an entire kill team board so I'm not gonna be too hard in myself. Didn't quite follow the hobby resolution plan either, got a bit distracted.
I got a proxxon thermocut for Christmas and have been experimenting with making some brutalist 6-8mm terrain. This will mostly be for Legions Imperialis but also for some battletech.
Love the Proxxon, it makes working with foam so easy. This took me 2 days and I have no idea how long it would have taken me just using a craft knife.
I can’t even begin to tell y’all how much I adore the Dire Wolf Heavy Scout Titan. Look at this beautiful hunched over goon, stomping over to blip and blap its funny foes. Absolutely adorable.
I want ‘em. I wanna field two of the fellas, and just let these puppies have a wonderful time at the metaphorical dog park.
