The Lion Knights
(1463 / 1695 / 2889 Treasure Cart, 1480 King's Catapult, 1584 / 6060 Knight's Challenge, 6016 Knight's Arsenal, 6017 King's Oarsmen, 6021 Jousting Knights, 6022 Horse Cart, 6023 Maiden's Cart, 6039 Twin Arm Launcher, 6040 Blacksmith Shop, 6041 Armor Shop, 6042 Dungeon Hunters, 6049 Viking Voyager, 6055 Prisoner Convoy, 6061 Siege Tower, 6062 Battering Ram, 6067 / 10000 Guarded Inn, 6080 King's Castle, 6081 King's Mountain Fortress)
The most prominent of all the LEGO castle subthemes is the Lion Knights, introduced in 1984 and with sets in the original run all the way through 1992 with a rerelease of the Treasure Cart in 1998, and then new Lion Knight sets reinvigorated in 2022 with the release of the Lion Knights' Castle (not pictured). The Lion Knights were also referred to as Crusaders in the catalogues when they first came out.
BrickLink and Rebrickable both indicate these are the Lion Knights / Crusaders sets:
-1463 / 1695 / 2889 Treasure Cart
-1480 King's Catapult
-1584 / 6060 Knight's Challenge
-6010 Supply Wagon

20240217: the History of LEGO Castle day 048.
6038-1 Wolfpack Renegades
(1992, 98 pieces, 46 different parts)
This blue and black cart drawn by a black horse with a red harness, four brown wagon wheels, a treasure chest in the back, and a barrel behind the wagon driver is the very first of the Wolfpack subtheme. The wagon has a secret compartment for extra smuggling and this is definitely one of the best wagons or carts we've gotten so far in the castle theme. The wagon also has a red 2x2 hard plastic flag on a dark gray lance with a silver wolf head on a black background, multiple dark gray swords, a dark gray crossbow, a brown bow and quiver set, and a dark gray parrot.
The two minifigures for this set are both Wolfpack personnel, and it's clear they're both intended to be male, as they both have facial scruff. The first has a black hood, black bangs with an eye patch over one eye and facial scruff, a black plastic cape, a brown torso with brown arms and a triangular shield with a silver wolf head printed on a black background with a red border, and black legs with a red belt. The other minifigure has a brown hood, black bangs with a black mustache with facial scruff, a red plastic cape, a brown torso with black arms and a triangular shield with a silver wolf head printed on a black background with a red border, and light gray legs with a black belt.
The wolfpack flag was only found in one other set (6075-1 Wolfpack Tower) and shield is only found in five other sets (6075-1 Wolfpack Tower, 1590-1 / 1596-1 Ghostly Hideout, 5059-1 Castle Equipment, and 6105-1 Medieval Knights). The red harness with end hinge was only found in five other sets (6022-1 Horse Cart, 6023-1 Maiden's Cart, 6040-1 Blacksmith Shop, 6042-1 Dungeon Hunters, and 6027-1 Bat Lord's Catapult).
I think this would be a lot more fun as a smuggler's cart if there was a floor in the bottom of the secret compartment under the main cart. I know there's a future wagon with a very cool secret compartment in the Dark Forest Forest and it really is fascinating to see the progression of carts and wagons.
Parts inventory for this set can be found on BrickLink or Rebrickable and a free download of the instructions can be found at ToysPeriod. More LEGO sets designed by Steen Sig Andersen can be found on BrickSet.

20220919: according to BrickLink, this is every Lion Knight Lego set produced between 1984 and 2022. this is 40 years of Lego castle! some are sets I’ve had since I was much younger, some are fairly new acquisitions (10305: Lion Knights’ Castle), and some I built out of parts over the last several years.
one of the very cool parts about this castle series is back in the 1980s and 1990s, all the castle sets came with attachment hooks so you could combine them all in a variety of ways to increase the size of your castle or build your world however you saw fit. I tried combining them all several months ago but I just didn’t have the space to lay everything out. now, I’m not quite sure if I should take the time to combine them for a picture or just wait until I rebuild castle town, which is definitely a thing that’s going to happen as soon as I get set up in my next place :)
picture shows: 6010: Supply Wagon, 6021: Jousting Knights, 6022: Horse Cart, 6040: Blacksmith Shop, 6061: Siege Tower, 6080: King’s Castle, 199384: Lion Knight Polybag (all from 1984), 6055: Prisoner Convoy (from 1985), 6012: Siege Cart, 6023: Maiden’s Cart, 6041: Armor Shop, 6067: Guarded Inn (all from 1986), 6016: Knights’ Arsenal, 6017: King’s Oarsmen, 6049: Viking Voyager (all from 1987), 1584: Knights’ Challenge, 6039: Twin Arm Launcher (both from 1988), and 10305: Lion Knights’ Castle (from 2022). since 6060 was a rerelease of 1584: Guarded Inn and 10000 was a rerelease of 6067: Knights’ Challenge, I didn’t include duplicates :)
