20240109: the History of LEGO Castle day 009. 6021-1 Jousting Knights (1984, 37 pieces, 27 different parts) Jousting Knights introduced a significant number of new pieces into the LEGOLAND System Castle. The set consists of two knights, one with a blue torso with red arms and a printed silver breastplate, a dark gray knight helmet with grill, and a red medium-sized feather, and one with a red torso with black arms and a printed silver breastplate, a black helmet, and a three-layer blue feather, and both with a red belt and hinge and black legs. The knights ride two horses, one white with a blue saddle and one black with a white saddle. New parts include printed "faction" shields, one a yellow lion on a blue triangle shield background with red trim, and one with a half black and white falcon on a triangle shield with yellow trim. These shield "factions" will be used throughout the rest of LEGO castle subthemes to indicate "Lion Knights" with lion shields or the "Black Falcons" with the falcon shields. This set also introduces knight helmets with front grills, 1x2 saddles for the horses, and feathers for the minifigure headgear. Feathers came as a set of three and these days, it's more common for the "extra" feathers to be excluded when purchasing used castle sets, as some of the feathers are notably difficult to find or are cost prohibitive, depending on your situation. The set itself is very simple and focuses on the two knights, but also includes a small jousting stand with two brown jousting poles and two dark gray circular shields, which the knights used to practice their precision lance skills. As there isn't really a significant amount of buildable bricks in this set, the back of the box builds are fairly simple. The torsos for these knights continues to be one of my very favorite torsos throughout all the castle subthemes and I have many fond memories of telling stories with my silver breasted knights :) Of note, this set, just like many of this era, contain the 1x1 plate with a thin side vertical clip. I can't tell you how many of these clips I've broken over the years so if you're building this set with era-authentic parts, you might want to be very gentle with those clips. Knight-in-training

Here's a little photo session with the knight from CMF Series 23 and a modified Nexo Knight bot. I guess I really will just buy any LEGO that is slightly medieval 🤣🏰

For this shot, I used a vintage Takumar 50mm f4 macro lens with a tilt adapter. A tilt adapter basically lets you tilt your lens 8 degrees from the sensor plane so you can get an angled focal plane.

Basically, I can shoot with a shallow depth of field with subjects that are not the same distance from the lens, and still get both in focus.

Notice in my photo that the knight is at an angle and the robot is closer to the lens than she is.

To get all of that in focus with a wide open aperture, I've tilted the lens to the right so that it basically lines up from the knight's leg to the robot's helmet.

Here's a clear explanation of what tilting a lens can do for your photos:

You can buy a native lens that has tilt/shift for your camera but it will probably cost you a pretty penny. My Sony camera is great for adapting vintage lenses to so I bought a cheap $30 adapter to give me the tilt feature.

Another option is to focus stack, which is taking several exposures at slightly different focal planes and then composting them together in Photoshop or Helicon Focus. I do this a lot when I'm shooting in my studio where I have total control over the light.

But outdoors, where the light changes a lot because of moving clouds or tree branches, I want to get it all in one exposure.

You can also close down your aperture but you obviously lose that shallow depth of field and light.

As you can see, it's mostly the colors and hair styles that got altered as I don't have much to work with in outfit designs with the canon provided. So in this au, Brickney is swapped with the blok due to the fact they are supposed to be Aaron’s and Axels dopplegangers during the tournament. And Shia and Bieber are swapped because there is an even number of Tighty Knighties. Other than that since their personalities are pretty much the same, nothing much changed about them storywise. (besides who they work for at first...which I don't know right now, probably Roberto or something). They are still just a fun group of popstars. The most major thing that happens is how the hell the Knights tournament goes down, since Lance is now the one out of commission and Macy doesn't exactly have a doppelganger as far as I'm aware. It either goes the route of the main group trying to figure out who goes against who with their available skills or the events happen pretty much the same to Classic, who knows-

Seeing green knight in alamo drafthouse and instead of previews they show stuff in the theme of knights- they showed a dragonslayer trailer, a lego knight/castle commercial from 1992, clips from an old silent medieval-y type film, a medieval joust recreation vid etc.
