20240110: the History of LEGO Castle day 010. 6022-1 Horse Cart (1984, 43 pieces, 24 different parts) This set is the first actual example of the Lion Knights, as indicated by the red and yellow flags and the gold and black crossed axe pattern on the torsos. This is another small cart, made of mostly black pieces, with brown wheels, a black horse, and a red horse harness with a hinge and turn-table. Even though the harness has the ability to build a wagon with the ability to turn, the Horse Cart with these instructions doesn't actually have the ability to turn. This set also uses the original version of the 1x1 plate with the thin vertical side clip, so if you're rebuilding this from era-authentic parts, make sure you take extra care with the clips, as well as the one clip on the side of the blue saddle. This is also the first set with the archer and the axe-person, which will show up in a good portion of the future sets. The torso is a red torso with blue arms and a gold and and black crossed axe pattern on a triangular shield design. The archer and axe-person also added a new "archer" helmet and changed the helmet with nose guard from light gray from the Classic Castle subtheme to dark gray. The back of the box builds for this set show a few different carts and also a chariot and the archer doing target practice, showing the different uses for the added parts between the Supply Wagon and the Horse Cart. This is a great little set and it works really well with the rest of the theme :) You can find the set inventory at BrickLink or Rebrickable, and the instructions are available for free download at Toysperiod.

Something something Zelda doesn't mind waiting. She waited a hundred years for Link to wake up and face the Calamity. She waited 10,000 years for Link to find her and the master sword to finally face off against Ganondorf.

She doesn't mind waiting because she knows how the story goes. She knows what kind of narrative she and Link are doomed by. She knows Link will prevail.

But she also knows the narrative isn't what she or Link want. She wants a safe Hyrule. She wants her hero knight to be free. She wants herself to be an explorer, a researcher, a scientist. Being a princess is something she's born into and therefore something she's duty-bound to. Same as Link being duty-bound to being her royal knight.

In those hundred years of waiting and those 10,000 years of waiting, she is content for Link to just... Be Link.

We all joke about how Link is goofing around Hyrule while the Calamity is looming and Zelda is waiting. About how and Ganondorf is gathering power in the depths while Zelda is missing and Link is building contraptions to bring koroks to their friends.

But this is Link. This is him when he's not duty-bound. I'm not saying he doesn't like being zelda's royal guard, but his essence isn't just that. He's just a guy who likes to go around helping people. That stable woman needs a horse and horse cart? Sure, he'll use his new powers to get her sorted out. That man fell down the well (in lego city) and needs help fixing the ladder to climb back up? Yeah, Link's on it. Oh, you need help building this town into something so, so beautiful where everyone from all walks of life can come and meld their cultures together and live in a diverse sort of harmony? Link's your man to see your vision come true.

Link loves his role in Hyrule. As a helper. A wandering hero. As a guy who roams and cooks and tames wild horses and gets rid of monsters and helps anyone and everyone even if they're obviously disguised yiga clan members.

So of course Zelda would want nothing but for him to enjoy his little wonders. This transient moment that had been carved for him to be free. Sure, there is doom looming over him and Hyrule. But he's still fulfilling his promise. He's still protecting them all in his own small way. He's still Link. Just unburdened.

And now that Zelda truly understands the fuckery of time and fate and everything, she doesn't mind waiting. She can wait as long as Link needs to be free. She will roam the skies unbothered and unthinking and in her immortal, unaware state until Link is ready. Until Link needs her.

Until then she's content with waiting.

So like in attempt to make the house nicer Darry bought a bunch of stuff from the home decor aisle and it ranges from nice to suburban cringe (examples being a cool fake plant vase shaped like a horse all the way to a pillow on the couch that says the word "family" on it in illegible cursive 💀)

Two-bit sometimes tags along and "helps" (by pushing the cart down the aisles at light speed and narrowly missing other customers) . Half the time he ends up getting bored and chillin in the Starbucks in the front of the store tho (Soda too honestly)

Speaking of Soda. The combo of all the red and the bright lights confuses him man 😭 they always end up losing him somehow and he has to wait at the front of the store

If Johnny comes along w/ them Darry always buys smth for him (whether he likes it or not), it's usually a on-sale shirt from the clothing aisle (honestly??? Target has some good clothes).

Pony and Johnny always wander off to the toy aisle (but they'd never admit it). Darry's found them in the Lego and RC car aisles multiple times.

The first time Darry went to Target he was so amazed by the cheap prices for their Target brand items he literally talked abt it for a week (my mom core 😍 "three dollars for 1.5 qt of ice cream? and it even tastes good as the expensive kind what a good deal!")

Steve harasses the people in the tech area and tries to get refunds for his broken ahh headphones he didn't even buy there 💀

Dally used to work at the Target near the neighborhood (bc to me. he just looks like someone who works at Target 😭 esp in the book) but he had to quit bc he went to the reformatory and bc he got into a HUGE fight with a coworker there

Simon's Month - (Beyblade) Towel

Oh, the places you’ll go. (Or, memories of Simon’s life as seen by his Beyblade towel)

Most of the memories are warm and sweet. Those are the ones to remember, to reminisce on. 

The very first one is of a store. A standard store that sells birthday cards and laundry detergent, Lego sets and hardback books. A standard store that also rotates its goods based on time of year and has just moved in a new line of kids swimsuits and towels as the end of spring melts into summer. 

A small child, curly haired and sunny eyed, comes careening around the corner of the aisle, skidding to a stop in front of the array of beach towels. He jumps up and down in his spot, turned back towards where he came from and waiting impatiently to be followed, hopefully by a guardian of some sort.

Sure enough, a few seconds later a nice-looking lady with similar curls and a warm smile appears. 

“Simon, please don’t run off like that,” she says and pets the boy’s hair. Her voice doesn’t sound scolding, though. It’s the voice of a mother who knows her child will listen to her but is maybe a little bit too excitable at times. 

“Sorry, Mamá,” he apologizes sheepishly, toeing his shoe into the ground. Then, he perks up and points with a small hand. “Can I get this one, please? Please, please, please! It’s from that show, the one that Ayub showed me!” 

Simon continues to bounce around, rambling and laying out a pretty well-crafted argument for a six-year-old. The pretty lady smiles fondly down at him, pretending to consider, before giving him a small nod. He yelps excitedly and pulls the towel off the shelf, depositing it carefully in the cart.

There’s a plethora of memories from that same summer. They blur together, the visions of lake days and orange slices, tiny sandwiches and big smiles.  

Simon, the young boy, radiates happiness the whole time, save for one time he falls and scrapes his knee. Even then, he smiles up at his mother through the tears and says, “I’m okay, Mamá. It’s just a scratch.” 

Sara, his sister, has her own towel. It’s covered in horses and sometimes they argue about whose is better, until Linda steps in and distracts them with treats. 

There’s a man, too, Simon’s pappa. He has a deep laugh and makes Simon giggle uncontrollably when he tosses the young boy into the water or pretends to be a sea monster, chasing after his two small children. 

Micke starts appearing less and less as the boy gets older. Soon, rather than seeing him wrap Simon with his towel as he climbs out of the pool after swimming lessons, it’s only his voice that is heard. Shouts muffled through a shut bedroom door, a still young boy hiding under his towel, hands pressed to ears, trying to block out the noise. 

Then, the man is gone altogether, and the boy grows a little older, and his smile returns, if a little dampened. 

He and his sister add their towels to a blanket fort in the living room. Though Simon’s towel has remained the same, Sara’s has lost its flair. It’s a simple purple one, now, with no pictures or sparkles or childhood memories. She says none of the other kids at school have kid towels anymore, so they shouldn’t either. Simon likes his towel, though, and he doesn’t so much care what the other kids at school think. 

The boy grows older still, and rings in another birthday at the pool with friends, towel wrapped around his shoulders, blowing out candles that read ‘16’. 

There are fewer happy water days after that. Now, the memories all come from one small, slightly stinky room. There are dozens of other towels around, but they are all pristine and new and made from expensive cotton. None of them have faded colors or small rips, but none of them have any good memories, either. The locker room is boring and has no great scenery, but there is one other boy who keeps staring at Simon with sad brown eyes. 

The boy, Wille, holds Simon’s hand and they tangle up together on the bench, whispering promises that cannot be kept. 

Then, they stop talking to each other, only furtive glances across the humid room. That, the silence, is worse than the fights, because then at least they’re talking. 

After that, the memories of the locker room and the prince stop, too. The towel ends up stuffed into a cabinet and maybe that is the end of it, maybe there are too many holes and too many bad memories outweighing the good and the young boy has grown up too much to cling to memorabilia of childhood TV shows. 

But, then, a crack of light and a laugh. 

“We’re going on a trip, Mamá!” Simon shouts across the small house, between giggles and gentle hushes. The prince is back, though looking much less princely than usual, and he’s wrapped around Simon with a big, relieved grin, pressing small kisses against his bare neck. 

This summer rivals that first happy summer from a decade previous. More lake days and orange slices, but also stolen kisses under the towel and a million whispered I love you’s. Wille wraps Simon up in the towel and carries him up the dock, ignoring Simon’s complaints because they come between wild bouts of laughter. They stand pressed up against a tree and grin at each other unbelieving that this is real. 

There are a million more memories like that from the summer, of tackling each other into the water, of shared sodas and water-logged sandwiches, and of lying side by side on the shore, staring into each other's eyes and making promises for the future. These promises, now, can be kept.

-will put on loads of sunscreen on his face and yet still get burnt. His face will literally be white with sunscreen and yet he’ll be red at the end of the day. has to buy a new sunscreen bottle every 3-5 days.

-knows how to ride a horse, as they had to travel on them in the 16-18 hundreds. might (will) steal the southerners horses.

- Massachusetts and New York in the dynamic of : “You know I’m not your father, right?” “I know. But do you?” (my age hcs don’t make any sense)

-had his license revoked because of road rage and ramming it into someone on purpose. Usually either forces someone to drive him or just teleports. (option 3: steal a golf cart, they aren’t real cars, or so he says.)

-will get into a very competitive match of baseball against Mass, usually (always) leading to a huge brawl between them.

MA: “I taught you how to catch! You can only play because of me!”

NY: “Sure, but somehow I still play better than you, old man!”

-builds legos. mostly from the botanical collection though (will build some with CA if they are matching)

-pushing NY/LA/FL/TX/CA (pls I need to see more fics of this I beg of you *nf*)

Daily Drabble Project Jul 23 - 29

7/23/23 Connie frowned at the canvass in front of her. Her painting was... fine. Good even. From the brush strokes to the style to the composition, it was all expertly done. Technically. As with all her original paintings Connie's years of study and practice showed, and yet something was still missing. She'd tried every style, down from the Old Masters to Bob Ross, but nothing had ever clicked. When she looked at her paintings she could see only the artists she copied and none of herself. It was frustrating to think that her skills would only ever be good for imitation.

7/24/23 She stood silently atop the cliffs as she watched his ship sail into the bay. It was definitely his ship; the royal colors were billowing high above the sails. Her red cloak serving as her own banner. They knew each other too well for her to doubt his intentions. He knew what it would mean his meeting her here in person. He wouldn't have come if he didn't mean it. This would be the first time in nearly twenty years that they both would be on the island together. In a roundabout way, they were both finally keeping their promises.

7/25/23 Gina hummed quietly to herself, rocking back and forth slightly as music blared through her headphones. The weather had been nice lately so she had sat outside on the front steps while she waited for Carla to come home. The two girls had plans for the evening. Mostly boring stuff like buying groceries and sending a package to Carla's mom. But they also might get dinner while they were out. For the time being though, Gina was content to just sit and listen to music while she stared at her phone, scrolling through post after post without really paying attention.

7/26/23 One of the wheels on the shopping cart squeaked loudly as Shelby pushed it down the aisle. He leaned forward lazily against the cart as he walked slowly. The store was nearly deserted so Shelby felt no rush to get what he needed and get out of the way. Instead he browsed at his leisure, taking time to consider products he knew he would never buy. Presently he was wandering down the frozen food aisle staring at frozen vegetables and wondering just who was buying frozen okra anyway. They kept stocking it, so someone must be eating the mysterious plant.

7/27/23 Timothy Chalmers wasn't that handsome. Or so Heather thought. She didn't get what all the other girls saw in him. Just because he was an athlete didn't automatically make him good looking. Sure, he was a talented soccer player, Timothy had scored three of the team's five points last season, but admiring him for his skills was not the same as him being attractive. He was skinny as a pole and had a long thin face like a horse. His eyes were dark and squinty, and his lips were too big. Heather didn't even know why she was dating him.

7/28/23 Wendel had a bit of popcorn stuck between his teeth. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't dislodge it with his tongue. It was driving him crazy. He couldn't even pay attention to the movie he was watching anymore. All his thoughts were on the piece of popcorn seed that was digging into his gums. He squirmed in his chair as he tried and failed again to remove the irritation, this time sticking a finger in his mouth. When repeated efforts continued to fail Wendel gave up. He knew he'd have no peace until he went home and flossed.

7/29/23 Betty stepped carefully through the minefield that was her little brother's bedroom. Several bins worth of LEGO had been scattered all over the floor. A towering structure of some sort was under construction in the middle of the room on what was, ironically, the only clear patch of carpet. Gary wasn't in his room or else he would've been yelling at Betty to leave. He didn't like having anyone in his room when he was in the middle of a project, and for good reason, Betty had come to leave him a little surprise to find when he resumed construction.

20240108: the History of LEGO Castle Day 008. 6010-1 Supply Wagon (1984, 33 pieces, 23 different pieces) Supply Wagon was designed by Daniel August Krentz and was the first small set from the LEGOLAND Castle System theme. If you want to know more about the designer, Daniel August Krentz, BrickSet did a really nice tribute and has a full list of everything he designed. The Supply Wagon introduced the first "civilian" into the Castle System theme, listed as a peasant, and also saw the first playable molded animal in the form of a white horse. The horse can fit a 1x2 saddle or a combination of 1x2 plates and a tile or a 1x2 brick, which allows the horse to not have a gaping hole in the back when not being ridden. The horse can move its head up or down, to give the horse the ability to graze or hold its head high while pulling a wagon. This set also introduced the hinged bridle for the horse, giving the ability to build a cart or wagon that can travel up hills or rotate from side to side, though the main wagon build for this set does not allow for the rotational aspect. This set also introduced brown into the Castle System with 33mm wagon wheels, a spear, and a brown hood for the light gray minifigure torso, as well as dark gray for the sword and the round shield. In addition to this set, the light gray torso with blue arms, a v-neck, and a belt with a pouch was found in five other sets from 1985-1989 (6055-1 Prisoner Convoy, 6103-1 Castle Mini Figures, 1584-1 / 6060-1 Knight's Challenge, and 1974-3 Smuggler's Hayride). The back of the box builds continue to show doing the most with a limited amount of bricks, as you could use the pieces in this box to build a chariot-style wagon, a plow, or even weigh down the horse and make it carry all the supplies while the "peasant" patrols. I do very much like the silhouette picture, though, as it feels like a story just waiting to be told. Honestly, I miss these kind of sets, which were just a minifigure and a small handful of parts in a very small box for under $5. I think this one actually retailed around $1.99 or even $2.99 in the United States when it came out in 1984. BrickLink, BrickSet, and Rebrickable all list the Supply Wagon with the Lion Knights sub-theme under LEGOLAND Systems Castle but this set seems completely neutral to me. In fact, the only time this torso shows up seems to be when the Lion Knights need someone to arrest. This is probably also the best armed supply wagon I've ever seen, sporting a halberd, spear, short sword, hammer, and a round shield with no print or stickers to show affiliation. The 2x3 double convex slope gives the appearance of a treasure chest at the back of the wagon, but I think a real treasure chest would have been more fun. Though, as the "peasant" doesn't have any colored flags on the wagon, it would be difficult to assess exactly whose treasure the "peasant" transported :) Of note, this set, just like many of this era, contain the 1x1 plate with a thin side vertical clip. I can't tell you how many of these clips I've broken over the years so if you're building this set with era-authentic parts, you might want to be very gentle with those clips. 4 days till the @littleslockin, everyone knows the craft table at an ABDL event is the place to get the gossip and news while making a little masterpiece!

The @littleslockin, which will be held at the @the_attic_experience in Derby on the 4/8/24, will be hosting the launch of our NEW PRINT DIAPER!

The event space has a capacity of over 400, so no need for tickets just show up on the day with £20, cash only, doors open at 12pm and close at 7pm.

We will be bringing our full shop and we will doing event discounts on everything we bring!

There will be a 10ft x 10ft ball pit, a rocking horse, lego table, walker, adult sized crib, adult sized high chair, push along block cart, sensory baby gym, crafts, toys toys toys and CAKE!

Both the LLI team and Team Dotty look forward to seeing you all at the attic on the 4th of August for the event!

what Lego sets do you recommend because I wanna save up for some and I want something recommended that is a bit cheap and not to pricy but high quality and amazing! also love ur content

DAMB thats kind of a toughie!! it all really depends on what appeals to you!! if you like tiny one offs, sets that you can further customize down the line, whether you're more interested in the minifigure/pieces so you can set up your own mini display, etc.

BUT if you want my personal onions here are some sets i like/have!!! (also thank you :'^O)

SEASONAL

VALENTINES PICNIC - though this one is pricy now if youre lucky to find it cheaper its def a cute set to have on display with your fav characters or OCs hanging out!!

CHRISTMAS TOWN SQUARE - another one thats gone up in price BUT any of the recent christmas tree ones could to as well if you wanna have up a little display for the holidays!! also goes great with the christmas train ride :^D i have mine set up with fairy lights so it looks like an actual festive tree during the season hehe

CITY

CITY ICE CREAM TUCK - dunno if you like building cars but i find them pretty relaxing! plus i like this one more than other ice cream tucks theyve put out because its so simple yet so colorful and cartoony. love the little ice cream on top of the truck so much

3-1 CREATOR SPACE SHUTTLE - not city i know but recent city has been space so ANYWAY if you like space/spacheships this is a good one!! one of the few 3-1s i like plus every alt build looks good too, and because of the alt builds you can totally change it up whenever you feel like it!

3-1 SWEET SURPRISES - again gone up in price but if you find one a cute little set you can absolutely expand yourself by adding more tables or setting it in a park like area!

TREE PLANTING VEHICLE - adorable little greenhouse set i love the detail on it plus its very vibrant.

HIDDEN SIDE

J.B.'s GHOST LAB - the only HS set i have sadly BUT its such a good little set especially for the price and it was tons of fun to build!! i still have it set up on top of my desk and i love it so much

NINJAGO

yeah i know me and my homies hate ninjago too

STREET RACE OF SNAKE JAGUAR - gone up in price BUT genuinely good set if you ever find one in the wild def one to snag up, looks so cool on display

LEGACY SAMURAI X MEC - i am a die hard nya samurai X stan and though the old classic set i love because of how chonky it is THIS ONE is so cute. i have this up with my other ninjago mechs and it fits in perfectly

KAIS MECH JET - another cool mech i love, its gone up a bit but still kinda worth it imo but really that all depends on if you like him lmao

THRONE ROOM SHOWDOWN - GONE UP IN PRICE but genuinely one of my favorite sets that i own if not for the throne and harumi alone its so fucking cool and i love it

MONKIE KID

WHITE DRAGON HORSE BIKE - this set goes hard alone for meis sick ass bike god i love her bike so much

and yeah those are some of the ""cheap"""" sets i can kinda recommend rn if only because others are either discontinued/theme is too old at this point, or expensive, and also i dunno your personal taste! i hope you find a set thats right for you!! sorry if my recommendations are kinda bad.. im a but more into getting minifig and set pieces so i can crate my own little displays or buy show sets cus its from a season/character i like but im also into polybags and those tiny builds! ALSO if you like some of what the sets have to offer (minifigures/pieces) but dont wanna shell out the cash for it i suggest going to bricks and pieces and looking up the set number and just adding it to your cart and going from there!!

and besides.. why save up for any of those awful sets when you should be buying the only set that matters on this earth ;^)
