20240108: the History of LEGO Castle Day 008. 6010-1 Supply Wagon (1984, 33 pieces, 23 different pieces) Supply Wagon was designed by Daniel August Krentz and was the first small set from the LEGOLAND Castle System theme. If you want to know more about the designer, Daniel August Krentz, BrickSet did a really nice tribute and has a full list of everything he designed. The Supply Wagon introduced the first "civilian" into the Castle System theme, listed as a peasant, and also saw the first playable molded animal in the form of a white horse. The horse can fit a 1x2 saddle or a combination of 1x2 plates and a tile or a 1x2 brick, which allows the horse to not have a gaping hole in the back when not being ridden. The horse can move its head up or down, to give the horse the ability to graze or hold its head high while pulling a wagon. This set also introduced the hinged bridle for the horse, giving the ability to build a cart or wagon that can travel up hills or rotate from side to side, though the main wagon build for this set does not allow for the rotational aspect. This set also introduced brown into the Castle System with 33mm wagon wheels, a spear, and a brown hood for the light gray minifigure torso, as well as dark gray for the sword and the round shield. In addition to this set, the light gray torso with blue arms, a v-neck, and a belt with a pouch was found in five other sets from 1985-1989 (6055-1 Prisoner Convoy, 6103-1 Castle Mini Figures, 1584-1 / 6060-1 Knight's Challenge, and 1974-3 Smuggler's Hayride). The back of the box builds continue to show doing the most with a limited amount of bricks, as you could use the pieces in this box to build a chariot-style wagon, a plow, or even weigh down the horse and make it carry all the supplies while the "peasant" patrols. I do very much like the silhouette picture, though, as it feels like a story just waiting to be told. Honestly, I miss these kind of sets, which were just a minifigure and a small handful of parts in a very small box for under $5. I think this one actually retailed around $1.99 or even $2.99 in the United States when it came out in 1984. BrickLink, BrickSet, and Rebrickable all list the Supply Wagon with the Lion Knights sub-theme under LEGOLAND Systems Castle but this set seems completely neutral to me. In fact, the only time this torso shows up seems to be when the Lion Knights need someone to arrest. This is probably also the best armed supply wagon I've ever seen, sporting a halberd, spear, short sword, hammer, and a round shield with no print or stickers to show affiliation. The 2x3 double convex slope gives the appearance of a treasure chest at the back of the wagon, but I think a real treasure chest would have been more fun. Though, as the "peasant" doesn't have any colored flags on the wagon, it would be difficult to assess exactly whose treasure the "peasant" transported :) Of note, this set, just like many of this era, contain the 1x1 plate with a thin side vertical clip. I can't tell you how many of these clips I've broken over the years so if you're building this set with era-authentic parts, you might want to be very gentle with those clips. EDITOR:  I recently discovered the true power of a parable, in the movie, Burden.  My ears were opened as scripture refers to.  One can talk all day about what someone should or should not do, but when the situation is spoken in a parable, the universe opens. King David wept when he realized the parable,  the Prophet Nathan spoke of, was for him. King David was the wealthy man who stole the poor mans only sheep.   If we have ears, let us hear this parable:  A little boy was born in poverty, a little girl was born in riches. I used to think I'd done something Spartan when I would walk nine miles from Walhalla to Seneca:                                       TAMASSEE CAMP FOR GIRLS THRIVED IN 1921 - (The following story was in the July 27, 1921 issue of the Keowee Courier). . .This being the fourth and last week of Tamassee Camp for girls, under the direction of Rev. and Mrs. I.E. Wallace, brings to a close a most happy and delightful season for a large number of girls. . .They have gone to camp in "installments" of 25 to 30 girls every week, as some would leave and others take their place. . .There were many pleasures for the campers as well as much instruction. They had a strenuous program which began with reveille at 6 a.m., but they have been reported as being a fine set of girls and doing every thing cheerfully and in an orderly manner and on scheduled time. . .With one voice, thanks is given to Mr. and Mrs. Wallace and all who did so much toward giving the girls such a wonderfully happy time at Tamassee Camp. . .The program for the last week of camp is as follows:. . .Monday, Hike to Oconee Station, 12 miles; Tuesday and Wednesday, a two-days' hike to Jocassee and Whitewater Falls, 35 miles; Thursday, Camp fire and supper on the rocks at the river; Friday, Grand finale swimming meet, beginning at 4 p.m.; Friday night, Final stunt night; Saturday, Hike to Mayuka Falls, 18 miles. . .This is a strenuous program, but most of the girls are in fine shape for strenuous work and are enjoying it. . .A great many visitors were at the camp Sunday. . .Every one at the camp is safe and happy!. . .(Footnote written by me, Ashton Hester: They walked 65 miles in six days! I think that calling that "strenuous" is a bit of an understatement!)

           “How much longer?” A soft voice came from inside.            Tain’s eyes grew wide and he look around. They were in the foothills surrounded by yellow grass and dirt speckled with green shrubs. Ahead of them a mountain range loomed, but no people. “Did you hear something?”

           Lega shook her head, “No. Nothing.  Its… this is an early break anyways it would only have the same result as the last two times.”

           “Just let it go Lega, focus on the present.”

           Lega scowled, that advice had come a lot, but it always felt more complicated than that. Hoping to change the subject she drew her spear and pointed it at the looming mountainside. “Not much further, two days maybe?”

           “To the end sure, we’ll reach the pass by the end of the day though.”

           “Oh.” It was a single word, but there was a lot behind. “Amar is a big place easy for two people to never meet.”

           “Yeah but the Kingdoms on the other side of the mountain are pretty small comparatively, people run into each other all the time.”

           A tiny muffled sneeze from the wagon made Tains freeze. Lega forced a smile. “Just the two of us, its been a long ride so far. Not that I don’t enjoy your presence.”

           “No I understand, it has been a long journey. Once you get outside of Miburnia and the rest of the east side it starts to be long stretches of nothing in between civilization. But hey, sometimes that’s a good thing. Less people, less troubles.”

           As if summoned, six imperial solders emerged from around the hill side, one spoke, “Halt traveler.”

           Tains reined in the mules, mind racing. Six solders, if things came to blows Lega and he might be able to kill two before they fell. “Hello, um, officer? What seems to be the problem?”

           The solder smiled, “Standard procedure, my squad has been ordered to inspect the wagons that go through here for contraband.”

           “Well I can assure you we don’t carry any of that.”

           “Then you have nothing to fear from the inspection.”

           The speaking solder and another walked around the sides and back of the wagon and began to go through the stored supplies. Lega casually put her arm in her shield, and Tains held his breath. The other four solders stared at them, mostly looking bored, two made crude jokes about the pair’s likely activities alone in a wagon.

           “Driver, please step around.”

           He did so slowly, trying not to look hostile. Lega spared a worried look as he went out of her sight. The speaking solder in the back watched him, the other carried on opening the various containers. “Obviously you are headed for the pass, where are you two coming from?”

           “Uh, a little town called Waxdrop.”

           “Waxdrop…any proof of that?”

           “No, no papers or anything.”

           “Hrmm, that doesn’t look well on you let me tell you.” The solder turned and looked at the other, who shook his head, elbow deep in a sack of grain. Slowly, the speaker looked about the wagon back, then the bottom of the wagon, set too low for where the floor was. Leaning forward, he saw a seem and sneered. “What’s this?”

           Tains heart froze. “What is what?”

           “You smugglers think you are so clever, but the size of your wagons give you away.”

           “I am unsure of what you are talking about.”

           “Yes, so you will be just as surprised by what I find when I open this hatch.” The officer replied, leaning forward and opening the secret space. It was hollow. The solder raised an eyebrow and cocked his eye towards it like a bird. “Huh. Sir, where did you purchase this wagon? And from whom?”

           “Waxdrop, and an auction.”

           “I would suggest you procure a different one if you intend to travel in Amar territory again, this is a smugglers wagon. They use that space to hide things.”

           “Thank you officer. May we go now?”

           “Be on your way. Safe travels.” The solder replied, sounding more than a little disappointed.

           Tains returned to his seat and they continued on. Lega was shaking as they rode out of site. An hour later, Lega finally said, “We are not being followed.”

           From the back a movement could be heard, and from beneath the revealed secret storage place another chunk of wood was lifted and a small head popped up. It was a child, no more than 2 solar cycles. “Oh, the door is open.”

           Tains chuckled, “It is. Good job keeping quiet down there kiddo, and good good job for hiding in the small place like you need to.”

           The child beamed at them. “Thank you Mister Trains. Thank you Miss Lego.”

           Lega couldn’t help but smile, “Alright little one, time to go back down for a bit, we aren’t quite there.”

           “I’m hungry.”

           Lega handed the child a chunk of dried apple. “Here, we’ll eat and walk soon I promise.”

           “Kay.” The reply was somewhat disappointed but offered no argument. Their cargo lowered back down and closed the hatch. They did indeed stop soon, and as Tains made camp and Lega packed two bags the little one ran about asking questions and taking in the sights, a days worth of energy coming out at once. Tains watched the sunsetting over the pass and smiled, behind them was Amar in night, and from above they could see a few campfires in the scattered countryside. The sun cast the barren stone of the pass in almost red and gold hues, the shadows were a deep purple and blue. The was wide enough for two wagons, and had many drops as it went, but was empty from where they sat.

           “Lega, I…are you prepared?”

           “Yes I will get this little bundle of joy to safety, What about you?”

           “Patrols being what they are, I’ll have to turn north, maybe risk a bit of the forest before I reconnect with our cell.”

           “Be safe, you won’t have the worlds best sideseater to help if things go sour.” Another traveler appeared walking, and waved at them twice.”

           “Yeah yeah, worry about the young one. Speaking of, little magic!”

           The child turned and waddled up to them. “Why are the cows eating bags?”

           “Because there is not grass for them. Listen, listen to Lega alright? Be on your best behavior, we aren’t to the safe place yet.”

           The child was wide eyed, but nodded. “Okay.”

           Lega took a dirty hand, “Say good bye to Mr Tains now okay?”

           Tains found himself being hugged. “Bye bye Mister Trains. Bye bye cows.”

           Like every time before, Tains found himself wanting to go too. But there was still more work for him to do. The traveler nodded at Lega and the child, then walked up to Tains. “Hey there stranger, need another hand?” Tains had dropped this one off a cycle ago, and nodded. “Certainly. See Lega, small Kingdom, you cant help but see some people again. Name’s Tains, what may I call you?”

All humans above age 19 are dead. Corpses lie still in their cribs. Elderly lie eternally asleep in their beds. It all started 3 days ago, the flash. Children are waking up from their coma. Milk is sour. No power. Mommy and daddy smell bad. This is the new beginning. Adults have desecrated the Earth. So, the virus only attacked fully developed brains. Chapter 1 0810 Hours “Everything is fucked man, so fucked!” Eric mumbled as he pulled his red flyers wagon down the street. He stopped at a street light and out of habit looked both ways. Warily he crossed the street. Gunshots can be heard in the distance. the familiar pops that would resemble fireworks brought only death. “Damn kids” he spat in the direction on south Freetown. Eric would be turning 15 this year. Like it mattered, he thought. No more birthday candles. They were too valuable. After a few brisk minutes he reached a partially looted liquor store. He silently laughed at the broken registers and lotto machines. Damn kids. Curiously he made his way down the aisle pulling cans off the shelves. First aid and medical supplies went into the wagon as well. Candy bars, ramen noodles, and even pet food all came off the shelf. He suddenly stopped. He stopped right in front of the huge beer cooler. Shrugging a “what the hell” he grabbed a few cases. Eric managed to haul over 100lbs of supplies back to his house. His dads truck still in the garage. His moms eco friendly hatchback was still in the driveway. After putting his wagon away he grabbed his .22 rifle and his fathers .38 special tucking it in his waist band. After grabbing some pretzels and 12 pack he made his way to the front porch. While sitting in the rocking chair he began to whistle one of his fathers favorite bands songs. Eric solemnly took out a pack of malboros and lit one. While exhaling a large cloud of smoke he screamed “FUCK THIS” taking a final swig of his beer, he threw the bottle into the street. Not shedding a single tear. 3 hours later Eric awoke to the sound of screaming. No, laughter? He lazily opened his eyes to see a few kids playing soccer in the middle of the street. A few boys and girls his age while toddlers watched from the curb. The twins were team captains. Obviously, Eric snorted. Grabbing another cigarette he made his way to the street. The automatic gates didn’t work so he used a manual gate next to his mother’s rose bushes. Earlier he had wrapped all of his bike chains around the gate to further secure it. If he at 10 years old knew how to pick a lock then he could count on other degenerates knew too. After undoing all the chains several kids noticed Eric. “Eric! Finally the master of disaster wakes up!” one of the twins piped up. It was Harry, the boy, all long flowing locks of fiery red hair. “What’s up fire crotch?!” Eric replied. Soon all the little ones crowded Eric squealing and hugging his legs. “We rescued a lot of kids today” Sara mentioned as he made her way through the small crowd. “While you were shut in your castle”. Sarah gave him a peck on his cheek. “We thought…..” her gaze fell low “We thought you were fish food man!” Harry exclaimed “But look at you! Smoking AND drinking. Wow. Hey wheres all the warm beer?” Eric put his thumb behind him “I put it in the pool”. At the mention of a pool the kids all stopped playing with the ball. “Well fuck this! Me first!” Harry yelled pushing past all the little ones “Take him hostage sis, hes all yours!” he screamed just as an army of children began to run behind him. Eric smiled, my little army, he thought. “So hot shot, what’s the plan?” he turned to see Sarah in white shorts and a yellow blouse. The wind was whipping her hair across her shouders. She and her twin brother were 16. Sarah and Eric swapped their V-cards together just that summer. “Well Darling” he said between puffs “I guess we take over the world” laughing he locked the gate and slid his arm around her waist. Together they made their way to the pool. “Don’t drink it all asshole!” Eric yelled as Harry grabbed his another beer. “Relax bro, ill go get you a whole store!” Harry replied. They both fell back in their lawn chairs laughing. “Is this the life or what?” Harry asked “Despite the fact I forgot we have no parents, its been alright” Harry whistled a somber tune. “Yeah, our dad was an ass so we put him in the county dump” Harry replied gleaming “ Fuck-em” he whispered as he took another swig. “So captain whats the plan? I mean, how do we live? Obviously we cant take care of all these little bastards” Harry mentioned while he waved his hand at the pool. The pool was filled with more then 50 screaming and laughing kids. They all had forgotten for the time being that they had awoken to dead parents days before. Eric smiled at Harry “I guess we can drop them off in the woods somewhere—OWWW” “Sarah punched Eric in the shoulder “Well? Do you have any ideas princess?” Eric said turning towards her. She was rubbing her temples while in deep thought. “We need them…” she finally said “We need an army” Harry began to laugh but quickly fell silently, no one else thought it was funny. “Your serious?” said Eric, she turned to him “ Its time babe. We’re taking over”. Eric lifted his beer and chugged the rest in one gulp, “Si vis pacem para bellum” he whispered. Chapter 2 A few months later Cars had now been parked to block the ends of the street. After Eric dispatched Harry to the local hardware store to get generators. The wall was being built. Tony was named head engineer. Tony was 13 and still in love with legos so to Eric it was a no brainer to charge him with building a wall. He now supervised 8-15 year olds as they cut and nailed new sections. Eric drove by in his Hummer. “Hey Tony the tiger, hows the progress?” he asked stepping out. Tony grimaced, “ Im not gunna lie Er, we are way behind. That last attack from the Baron’s set us back. We are now using fire retardant wood and aluminum roofing to cover the wood. At least the gate anyway. The vulneralbities are the alley’s and the sewers”. Eric was writing in his notebook. “ Anything else to report?” Tony looked sideways “Well, one of the new recruits is causing some trouble” At this Eric looked up “Trouble?” Tony sighed “She causing some dissention with the younger ones, he goes by Striker” Eric spat at the ground “Son of a bitch” he pulled out his radio “Base 1, this is golden eye over” his radio crackled “Golden eye we read you, what’s your 20? Over”. The most difficult part to find for this set is the blue 1x6 plate with attachment fingers on each side, as that part was only found in this set and the 1995 King's Carriage (6044-1). Another interesting set piece is the blue 1x2 hinge plates with attachment connections on one end. BrickLink indicates these parts are supposed to be the solid stud but the replacement part with hollow studs began production in 1983, which means this set could easily have either part version. The Prisoner Convoy is another set I built mostly out of "spare parts", which means I don't have a box or instructions for it. Amazon adds toys to its growing list of private labels

Batteries. Clothing. Household goods. Supplements. Diapers. Furniture. Toys? Yes, toys. It seems Amazon’s private label business is preparing to enter the toy market next. The retailer’s initial toy listings include an indoor play set for toddlers, along with other toys for climbing and playing, as well as a toy storage system.

The listings were first spotted by TJI Research this week, but the items themselves are not available for sale. (The listings have also been pulled down, following our inquiry to Amazon.)

AmazonBasics is Amazon’s flagship private label brand, where consumers can shop for Amazon’s version of everyday needs like cables, batteries, and other home necessities, such as bed sheets, bath towels, knife sets, tools, and more, plus office products, sports and travel accessories, pet supplies, and many other things. Basically, it’s Amazon’s attempt at owning a piece of the market for every top-selling item and category on its site.

As for the new toys, they’re not exactly Amazon’s attempt to take on Mattel or LEGO, but rather are meant to cater towards childcare business owners, we understand. That is to say, these are not dolls and playthings – they’re classroom needs.

Today, many children’s toys rely on the power of their brand to sell, and their YouTube unboxing videos, too. But Amazon could easily compete on classic toys and staples, if it chose – things like stacking rings or wooden blocks for baby, little wagons, toy cars, easels, wooden puzzles, and more. After all, newer brands like Melissa & Doug have proven there’s a market for classic toys like this, even in a day and age when kids are drawn to digital playthings like tablets and video games.

However, Amazon hasn’t made any moves yet into the broader toy space – and it may not do so, given the potential for alienating toy makers whose brands it needs to sell.

Given the launch of the listings pages, TJI Research estimated the toys would begin to ship in the days or weeks ahead.

Given the launch of the toy listings pages, TJI Research estimates the toys will begin to ship in the days or weeks ahead.
