Une poupée dans la vitrine
C'est une poupée dans la vitrine / There is a doll in the shop window Qui me regarde et qui s'ennuie. / Who looks at me and who gets bored Je crois qu'elle se cherche une maman, / I think she's looking for a mom Et moi je veux qu'elle soit ma fille / And I want her to be my daughter Dans une maison pleine de jouets, / In a house full of toys Où les petites filles de mon âge / Where the little girls my age Cousent les toilettes de leurs poupées / Sew their dolls' outfits Et ne font jamais le ménage. / And never do the housework. Je la vêtirai de dentelles, / I will dress her in lace Elle aura des jupons de soie / She will have silk skirts Je veux que ma fille soit la plus belle / I want my daughter to be the most beautiful Et qu'elle soit fière, / And for her to be proud Qu'elle soit très fière de moi. / For her to be very proud of me. C'est une poupée dans la vitrine; / There is a doll in the window; Je la regarde et elle m'appelle. / I look at her and she calls me. Si seulement je savais écrire / If only I knew how to write J'la demanderais au Père Noël. / I would ask her of Father Christmas.
Lyrics: Les Misérables musical, Paris 1991 English translation by me (let me know if I mistranslated anything!) Other song versions: Mon Prince est en Chemin, Castle on a Cloud

Deleted Les Mis song ?
youtube
Hey Hi hello long time no see, I wanted to hop on here to re-share this little lost gem! So this was taken from a far longer video which is a recording of the Les Mis musical during its original 1980 Paris run, which are very hard to find! I found it odd that this song appears to only exist in this recording, and after doing some snooping around I realised that yes, this song seems to only have been performed live shortly, before being cut. It doesn’t appear on the original French 1980 concept album, nor on the Paris 1991 revival, and only seems to have been kept on the west end for a little while as “I saw him once” in 1985 before being cut entirely.
it’s one of the only solos Cosette truly gets, and I think it did so much for her character in the musical, which often seems to be little aside from a classic Musical Theatre Ingenue. Even though I uploaded this snippet onto YouTube AGES ago (I had my original tumblr blog back then.. back in 2020) I had only managed to upload French subtitles. Since then, I roughly translated the lyrics so you can get the gist of what’s going on and a little bit of the nuance that was lost in “I saw him once” (which makes the song about Marius for no reason,,,, ugh) though the words don’t rhyme like in the original. The audio quality is not ideal, but as I said it’s the only recording I was able to find, and I’m no good at audio editing AT ALL so I won’t attempt to restore it… anyway, hope you guys find this interesting!!!
(also @aromantic-enjolras I remember telling you about this ages ago, but idk if I actually did, either way, I thought you might care)

ONE MORE DAY ALL ON MY OWN
The song ever.
As always, rankings first, which you can also find in this playlist.

2010 Live
1985 London

1998 Flemish
And now for the ratings. There were some really good ones and some I genuinely Did Not enjoy listening to. Oof.
2011 Madrid: I LOVE how all-out they went with the orchestra for this one. But then again, this whole album slaps, so I'd have been surprised if this one'd been on the low end of the ranking. 9/10
1991 Paris: THE CRESCENDO BEFORE ENJ'S PART !!! Really well done. However, the "all together" part... It's not the best, especially the weird fuckery they do with the volume at the end, and since that's THE part of the song, I'll deduct a point for that. 7/10
French Concept: Yes I'm counting this despite it being a slightly different version, especially ending-wise. Still, I really love it and because of that I'm adding it to the ranking. 8/10
2020 Live: Just a great version. The all-together part is understandable, yet A Lot like it should be. 9/10
2008 Dutch: I just think the voices fit SO well in this version, but I might be biased. I don't really care though. 9/10
2010 Live: This Marius, this Enjolras, this Javert... I'm sorry, 2010 really isn't the recording for me. The parts where everyone is singing are decent though. 5.5/10
1998 Flemish: Thanks, I hate it. I like the usage of the drums though. 1.5/10
Symphonic Recording: Only slightly better than the Flemish one, but as you might know from previous rankings I don't like this recording At All so it's not really a surprise. 3/10
10th Anniversary: Not my favourite, but definitely an okay recording that I like listening to. Philip my beloved. 6.5/10
2012 Movie: The pain of just wanting to listen to One Day More and then having that last part of On My Own on the recording. Other than that, controversial opinion, I really like this version. The all-together part is really well done imo. Maybe it's nostalgia. 8/10
1985 London: Has the OG ever landed high up in the ranking? No. And it won't now either. The all together part is decent though. 4/10
1989 Vienna: I LOVE GERMAN THÉNARDIERS !! Just a decent version, could've been better if it'd had more power. 6/10
French Concert: I kinda like this version, but something seems... Off? I don't really know what, though. 6/10

Danilo Pereira pose ses valises à Al-Ittihad
Tumblr media
Read the full article

As some may have noticed I slightly hyperfixating on Les mis, so naturally at 7 am after I woke up I started looking up stuff about les Les mis
And so here is what I found, for those who aren't aware the musical was originally written in French in 1980, so naturally I started looking for anything of the og other then songs (especially other then "A la volonté du peuple" since I think it's the most known song of this stage production) and I did find a short clip of an old french documentary (will be linked below) and in it they show a rehearsal of "La journée est fini" which is the og version of "At the end of the day"
BUT I have listened to a French production before on Spotify that was from 1991 thought and immediately I noticed the lyrics sounded different so naturally I went to compare the lyrics and yes, it is different lyrics, the title is also different it's "Quand un jour est passé" (Edit : they indeed changed all lyrics and titles)
So since the title is different I looked if other titles were different and yes they all are!
My question now though is, why did the Paris 1991 stage production not use the original French lyrics that did sound better? Were they not allowed to? Did they not have access to it? Sometimes else?
Also, there is in fact a concept album of the original 1980 production you can find online, I in fact found the full original full album on YouTube (will also linked Below)

since u requested some les mis asks 😃
What’s your favourite song from the musical, and which version of it?
Favourite cast recording?
Favourite les mis related item you own?
Favourite scene from the book?
Favourite adaptation?
oh anon im so sorry this ask is ancient i just now found it. anyways, better late than never
paris/look down! it’s such a good song that displays all the central themes of the show quite well. my favorite version is the original french “donnez, donnez” and not the version on the album but the version from the production. there is something that invokes the such imagery of the time period throughout that song (that part where it fades into this sort of cacophony of whistles and yelps gives me chills) go listen to it. honorable mentions go to l’un vers l’autre, mon historie, and the original 1985 attack on rue plumet
ive been really into the concept album lately but my heart belongs to the 1991 paris revival album. it’s dear to me. though i do enjoy the symphonic recording quite a bit.
my eponine necklace! my mom got me a beautiful little necklace with eponines last words on it for me and even added a tiny little ruby charm to it. i love it.
eponine defending the rue plumet! such a pivotal moment for her and a beyond heartbreaking chapter to read.
the 1934 film! i do love 1972, 1925, and 1982 quite a bit though.

15 SETTEMBRE 2020

SEGUI LA TUA STRADA Read the full article
