My first ever ride with total strangers. 😁 From Remedios St., Taft Ave., Manila to Severina 18, Parañaque.. less than 2hrs. lang byahe ko!! Hehehehe.. sa una mejo nahirapan ako, kase hindi pala familiar si Kuya Marlon sa place! Kaloka, pero oks lang. Nakarating parin ako sa Severina ng buhay. Wuw! CONIC SECTIONS

INTRODUCTION

Hi everyone! It's Abby again. Today we are going to talk about conic sections!

So what are the 4 kinds of conic sections?

Circle

Parabola

Ellipse

Hyperbola

Let's start with CIRCLE!

CIRCLE: MINI FAN

What is a circle? A cicrcle is a set of all points in a plane that are equidistant from fixed point on a plane.

This is a portable mini-fan. Isnt this object perfect for a hot country like here in the Philippines? Ofcourse, it is! So haven't you wondered why it is shaped circle?

Well, It is circular because with it's shape the blades can rotate properly and it wont lead to dynamic imbalancing. This kind of objects is not formed into any other shape because of the need for a uniform distribution of weight. Therefore the blades should have the same length and density.

ELLIPSE: EGG STATUE

What is an ellipse? a regular oval shape, traced by a point moving in a plane so that the sum of its distances from two other points is constant, or resulting when a cone is cut by an oblique plane that does not intersect the base.

When we went to tagaytay, we saw this huge pink egg statue at Twin Lakes.

Why is it oval-shapped? Acc. to my research, eggs are elliptical is because is what it protects it from falling and breaking. And, I think there is no exact answer why it is shaped like that. Because even back in the dinosaur age, it is assumed or proven that eggs are naturally elliptical. Also, if it were other shapes such as rectangle, the sides of it would be very strong and the soft point is in the middle. It would be hard for us by now cook it. LOL XDD.

PARABOLA: TIP OF A CLOTH HANGER

A Parabola is a set of all points in a plane equidistant from a fixed point and fixed line.

The tip of the hanger, we can see the parabola (curve line). The use of it is, so that it's easy for us to hang clothes. What makes the hanger complete is its tip. The tip of the hanger is curve because if it were a triangle it would be hard for us to hang clothes. The advantage of the curve tip is that we can just look for a place where we could hang it. #LessHassle

HYPERBOLA: VASE

Hyperbola - symmetrical open curve formed by the intersection of a circular cone with a plane at a smaller angle with its axis than the side of the cone.

An example of a hyperbola is a vase. The vase in the picture has this figure --> )(. There different kinds of vase. It all shows it's own uniqueness. I think it is shaped like that is, so that things such as long fake sunflowers is placed, it wont fall. Because the upper section serves as the supporter of the 'flowers'.
