We've posted multiple times about French expat living in London, Louis Philippe. He's a crooner in the Neil Hannon mold, but on Azure he sounds much more like XTC, and for good reason. Dave Gregory plays on the album and one song was written by Andy Partridge. There is a definite "Skylarking" feel to this album.

But some of the melodies also remind me of Ryan Power, Scritti Politti or Maxwell Farrington and LeSuperHomard

This was originally released on CD in 1999 on French Label XIII BIS Records and Japanese label Trattoria. You can find copies on Discogs for both - although that Japanese issue is expensive. It is BEGGING for a reissue.

Le SuperHomard / Domino (with Xavier Boyer)

Über den Saint Etienne Fanclub saintetiennedisco erhielt ich die Empfehlung, es mal mit der bis dato unbekannten Band LeSuperHomard zu versuchen. Das Quintett ist erstmalig in 2015 in Erscheinung getreten und hat in 2019 das zweite Album „Meadow Lane Park“ veröffentlicht. Abseits des Albums haben LeSuperHomard aber zusätzlich noch das Stück „Domino“ freigegeben. Und das frankophile „Domino“ liegt noch deutlich über dem Schnitt des auch nicht zu verachtenden Albums „Meadow Lane Park“.

Subjangle is at it again. They have a knack for uncovering great pop artists who have been laboring for years and years as unrecognized songsmiths. Their roster is full of examples - The Photocopies, Grand Drifter, 3 A.M. Again, and The Umbrella Puzzles immediately come to mind.

Now comes Huw Darling and his two projects, The Spanish Amanda and The Chickpea Darlings (both based in England). Both projects remind me of McCarthy, Northern Portrait, The Smiths and Maxwell Farrington and Le SuperHomard.

Allen Freunden von Saint Etienne sei auch eine Beschäftigung mit der Band Le SuperHomard nahegelegt. Diese haben in 2018 bereits ihr 2. Album „Meadow Lane Park“ auf Elefant Records veröffentlicht. Und insbesondere der Albumsong „Sprintime“ hat dieses gewisse Saint-Etienne Feeling.
