Atp if anyone's not believing they're engaged has to be joking or be an anti lol. There were SO many articles but not one denial except that ET one saying 'they're private, let them be.' They ran wild with Gyllenswift articles after red tv and we got a quick article about her visiting Joe on his film set. If anyone searches on google, it's mentioned they're engaged and most of them aren't deep in Hollywood or swiftdom to expect special confirmation from Taylor. Like it's done.. accept it lol.

While it's pretty easy to tell which songs are about Dianna and Karlie on the later albums, the older ones are trickier. I'm just not convinced All Too Well is about Emily. Breathe, which is def about Emily, she talks about parting ways and apologises profusely for letting her go. All Too Well and many songs on red are accusatory and angry. There are so many overt references to Sagittarius and blue eyes in the album- but the gyllenswift was so short. Maybe there was a woman we dont know of.

The older ones are tricky for sure and everyone is allowed to think what they want about the subject of those songs obviously! I’ve mentioned in previous analyses that I’m not too sure Breathe was actually written after Taymily broke up, but rather after Emily was fired and thus what Taylor is apologizing for is letting the firing happen. So Emily had been fired, but they had not yet broken up when Breathe was written, in my mind this just makes more sense timeline-wise. 

While I agree with you that many songs on Red are angry and accusatory I don’t read All Too Well as one of those songs, to me that one is more sad, nostalgic and to a certain degree also apologetic in a similar way that Breathe is (although in Breathe it’s obviously a more raw and fresh apologetic tone as what she’s apologizing for has just taken place when she wrote that one, while I think ATW is looking back at that same relationship/incident a few years down the line hence the nostalgia feeling I sense.)  

As for the blue eyes, I’m actually not sure if Emily’s eyes are blue or green, but that as well as the Sagittarius stuff could easily be a #NoHomo thing where we are encouraged to read Gyllenhaal into those lines.

All of that being said though, it is obviously also entirely possible and maybe even likely that ATW isn’t about any of Taylor’s known girlfriends, there definitely was a few years after Emily but before Di that we don’t know much about so the song could really be about any woman she happened to go out with during those years.

Personally I’m still pretty convinced the song is about Emily, but you absolutely do not have to agree with me!

Red vs Golden is why I'm convinced Joe is the second time she's serious serious about a relationship, first being Jake.

Eh I don't think Gyllenswift was nearly as serious as Tayvin, but it was her most intense ex-relationship and left a really big mark on her. Like she was hung up on him for years and genuinely couldn't stop writing about him

if you really think about it, gyllenswift is everything haylor wishes it were. like it went on for a much longer time than the media knows, she was completely devastated, and wrote a shit ton of songs about him, to the point where even today songs that aren't explicitly about him have elements of their relationship (eg daylight referencing red (s), tolerate it having dynamics of her rs w jake). and he would've been the one if he were a better man

Exactlyyy and it was actually an on/off situation and they also partly broke up because of extenuating circumstances. Like he haaated the paps and the fact that she was/is more famous than him but they couldn’t stay away from each other and he kept flying her out 😭

She wrote better man about jake but imo, based on the fact that she mashed it up w tiwycf and cried performing said mashup, I think she associates that song w calvin. Both of them seem to be asses who made her feel really insecure about herself and stepped out on her, but despite all that they did really like/love her and were pretty obsessed w her or at least sex w her

For sure. Like they both wanted her to make herself smaller so they could feel better about themselves, and hated that she was way more successful?

And she's talked about tolerate it and how she was pulling from past experiences where she did feel taken for granted, and although it's not a direct play-by-play, imo it's partly inspired by feelings she had during those two relationships.

idk if jake was comedic excellence but imo it's her most interesting ex-relationship because of how messy/on-and-off it was and how much it impacted her. one thing i've realized recently is how much her songs about love changed after jake. the love songs on her first 3 albums can best be summarized by the way i loved you - super intense, emotional, and strong. but RED onwards, you start to see a shift. treacherous is followed by ikywt, which is essentially her realizing that red love (represented by songs like treacherous and sparks fly) is really bad and toxic for her. the love songs that follow, like begin again, ehc, and cbbh, are all much sweeter than the tumultuous love she sings about on her first 3 albums. i think jake was her first real love - not a teenage infatuation like drew and joe j, but actual adult love. and when gyllenswift fell apart, her whole perception of love changed, which is why their relationship is still alluded to in her recent albums.

I mean Jake definitely fucked her up big-time so I feel bad for finding their relationship hilarious but 😭 the fact that he couldn't even be bothered going to her 21st but was still obsessed with her in his own way and flew her out for a weekend just to stay in his hotel room the whole time? And how he didn't even think twice about getting a singer a guitar for her birthday because his ego was that big??

And how she was legitimately embarassed about having that many songs about him on Red and was ~daydreaming about real love~ and writing Begin Again about moving on, but they're all still very much smackcams directed at him?? I could go on and on.

But anyway, I def agree with you about Gyllenswift being her most interesting ex-relationship. I wouldn't say that all the songs on her first three albums are about intense and emotional situations, but I do think that's what she wanted.

That's also what gets me about the burning red and black and white references on Daylight, because it's pretty clear that both those relationships changed her outlook on love the most, and there's a lot of parallels between the two dynamics too tbh.

It didn't take her 3 years to get over Jake. She got over him by 2011/early 2012

What emotions do you think jake was experiencing when he heard RED because he definitely would have listened to it for his curiosity and open letter aspect of it she sings.

Well we know he emailed her and told her that he loved the songs and it felt like going through a photo album, so I think he was in his feels (but also didn't regret how things turned out)

I have doubts if Jake would be the one if he wasn't an idiot... If they were still together it would be practically 10 years of relationship, many things would have to be different, not just for him, but for her too, maybe the The feeling she felt in "better man" made sense when she wrote it, but I think Taylor herself nowadays knows it wouldn't work even if he were a better man

For sure, and it's pretty unlikely that they would've been compatible in the long run. Also he legitimately only dates girls in their early twenties it's weird as fuck

I think she and Jake were together off/on through March. She wrote "Begin Again" about her first date with the guy from that indie band, which was in late November iirc ("I've been spending the last eight months thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end").

How long do you think that Jake and Taylor actually go out for? Do you think they were together longer than the reported October 2010 to January 2011? I always figured their relationship was probably somewhat longer than those four months due to the on and off again style of relationship she sings about on Red.

Same omg, I think they were on/off for a while after that. I wish we knew when WANEGBT was written because that would give us a better timeline
