Letterboxd Film Progress List
Tumblr media
The beginning of a new year, here are my current figures on the main Lists on Letterboxd. The one I’m probably most disappointed with is the Top 260 Women Directed, that’s an area I definitely need to improve in.
The easiest ones to probably complete would be the Oscar Best Picture Winners, and AFI 100 Years, 100 Movies. The reason for this is that they are the two least likely to change (at most, you get a new Best Picture Winner this year) and will impact the other lists as well (hopefully).
There are some other lists not included, such as Official Top 250 Narrative Feature Films, where I have watched 97 films (38%), Letterboxd’s Top 250 International Films where I’ve seen only 20 (8%), Letterboxd’s Top 250 Sci-Fi Movies, of which I have seen 113 (45%), and finally Rolling Stone’s 101 Best Horror Movies of which I’ve seen 70 (69%).
I’m undertaking several challenges on Letterboxd this year, which should also impact the other lists, but the biggest films I’ve not seen yet that are on the most lists are the ones below:
The 400 Blows
All About Eve
Amadeus
Annie Hall
Ben-Hur
The Bridge On The River Kwai
City of God
Come and See
Do The Right Thing
Double Indemnity
Gone With The Wind
The Grapes of Wrath
Ikiru
Metropolis
Network
North By Northwest
Once Upon A Time In The West
One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest
Persona
Sunset Boulevard
To Be Or Not To Be
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
Vertigo
Wild Strawberries
It shall be interesting to see how my figures compare this time next year...

Hello, all!
As you may know, the request inbox has been closed for several months now due to the massive amount of submissions I received at the start of this blog. The good news is that all of the submissions have officially been queued! This means that the askbox can finally be opened again, which will happen sometime before July 4th. I will make a post announcing when it's open again, though please be aware that there will be changes to the submission rules. Additionally, it will likely not be open for as long as it was previously to avoid having such a long queue of requests again.
This also means that this blog can go back to posting movies from "top 250 movies" lists as it was doing prior to the temporary switch to requests-only posting. Starting in July, the first poll of the day (posted at 12PM EST) will be a movie taken from Letterboxd's Official Top 250 Narrative Feature Films list (as we have already completed the IMDB top 250 list.) The other four daily polls will be requested films.
Hopefully this sounds good to everyone! I'm excited to start receiving requests again and I hope you're all excited to start submitting again in July.

I'm trying to set up a letterboxd account and im going through their top 250 movies and I forgot that Pulp Fiction is a beloved movie. Maybe I should watch it again, but I remember being at prime tarantino age on first watch (17) and not feeling a goddamn thing about it at a movie.

the loser film nerds (the loser ones not all of them) somehow got letterboxd to change their rating weight system because across the spiderverse became the highest rated movie on the platform so now it's based on "global consensus" aka a huge chunk of films that aren't from America will never be able to make it to the top 250 because alot of international films do not get huge releases compared to hollywood ones and we all know how much people love to get xenophobic and racist about films that either don't star white people or weren't made by them especially from outside of America 🫶 all over a meaningless list that had a animated movie about a black superhero at the top

Unrelated but What do you think about the IMDb list? Do you like the movies listed there, do you think they deserve their spot?
if you mean this top 250 list, i like it in general! theyre good movies but not the only good movies. the letterboxd top 250 list has a wider range of international films but is pretty much the same. notice how sidney lumet's 12 angry men is in both top 5's 👀

the problem with letterboxd ratings is that when they turn the top 250 narrative films into a badge of honor you end up with an officially sanctioned list that implies spider-man: across the spider-verse is somehow operating on the same level as come and see when they extremely Are Not

Somehow, we're already at the mid-point of the year! Wild!
Welcome back to the Cinephile's Monthly Movie Scavenger Hunt. In it, I'll give ten prompts a month for movies to watch, and your challenge - if you choose to accept it - is to try and watch a movie for each.
This is just an all-for-fun monthly scavenger hunt for people who love movies and want the chance to watch something they maybe wouldn't ordinarily have. Feel free to share what you're watching, or just pick a couple of prompts to get you started.
Tumblr media
It's National Reconciliation Week in Australia! Watch any movie by an Aboriginal Australian or Torres Strait Islander Filmmaker, or by a First Nations filmmaker in your country.
It's also Pride Month! Watch any LGBTQIA+ movie.
Watch a movie at the intersection of arthouse and grindhouse.
The new Indiana Jones movie comes out this month. Watch any movie starring Harrison Ford.
Watch a movie off Letterboxd's Official Top 250 Narrative Feature Films
Watch a movie set in a school or university. Some suggestions.
Watch a movie that the actors got together on the set of. Some suggestions.
Watch any documentary. Some suggestions.
It's Father's Day in much of the world! Watch a movie about fatherhood.
Colour of the Month: Blue! Watch any movie with a predominantly blue poster. Some suggestions.
Happy watching!

What is this blog?
Welcome to haveyouseenthismovie-poll, where Tumblr users vote on whether they’ve seen popular films or not!
The goal of this blog is to see how popular well-known movies are to the Tumblr user base. The Godfather, for example, is one of the most well-known films of all time, but how much of Tumblr has actually seen it? That’s what I’m here to find out!
Since we completed the IMDB top 250 list, we are now going through the Letterboxd "Official Top 250 Narrative Feature Films" list. The first film posted every day will be taken from the Letterboxd list, while the remaining ones will all be requests.
Polls stay open for a week and new ones will be posted five times a day at the following times: 12PM, 2PM, 5PM, 8PM, and 11PM (all EST.) You can view a list of the films that have appeared on this blog here.
Requests are currently CLOSED. They will open again next month.
