Marco wasn't really sure how he got roped into participating in this raffle. Obviously, he had to be there to oversee the catering. But volunteering him for a date?? He was going to kill Leyla. He really didn't need this right now. All he wanted to do was get in, do his job, make sure everything went off without a hitch, and get the hell out of there. The whiplash he kept experiencing with Cali was really getting to him. Being reminded, yet again, that Cali was in fact in a relationship, was killing him. He didn't know how many more times he could do this - get his hopes up, delude himself into thinking maybe they could have something, only to have his hopes dashed against the very jagged rock that was Aydin. It was becoming too painful, too unhealthy for him. And he needed to figure out a way to bury his feelings, to bury them down deep.

He hadn't seen Cali yet, though since Gabi was helping her do her makeup, he knew she would be here, so Marco took advantage of not seeing her yet, and scanned the ballroom for something, someone to distract him. His gaze snagged on the gorgeous figure of a woman in a stunning pink gown. Letting out a sigh, knowing his heart really wasn't in it but he needed to try something, Marco made his way over to the woman at the bar. Leaning against the bar next to her, asked with a smirk, "So, how much do you think the city council pushed for these masks so we could all get away with flirting with whoever they wanted?"

I hope this isn't disrespectful but isn't telling people to name people by accordance with their nationality (not even their specific ethno group) racist? I'm not saying poc should use white names or that there aren't problems with whitewashing in the rpc. I just know people are adopted, assimilation affects the way people interact with the world, etc. They're your resources and you're absolutely allowed to set boundaries, I think I just wanted to understand the mindset, if that's okay.

(name anon) ps I also recognize that naming people appropriately isn't a big ask, and wouldn't personally use a turkish fc without wanting to honor their heritage, but I think I was more thinking if the fc is say germanic like Özlem Düvencioğlu and your character is a 3rd gen immigrant from new york, i'd imagine given names to either be americanised or be more common american names. even that probably puts more nuance in their the people who created this problem though, i suppose.

First of all, it's to my understanding that Turkish is an ethnicity, as well as a Nationality. That is not to say that everyone who lives or works in Turkey is Turkish by ethnicity, but most of them are.

In a perfect world, that would be fine with me. I know adoption and assimilation are things, I've played an adopted Turkish muse before. If people intended to use that to have more nuance in their characters, that would be great. But from what I've seen in the past (and keep seeing) is people use that as an excuse to completely whitewash their muse to entirely divorce them from their heritage. The amount of times I've seen a Turkish fc used with absolutely no consideration and treated as a blank slate white character is absurd. There are plenty of white fcs for that.

Also, there are absolutely names to choose that sound more Americanized if that's what you feel fits your muse. Dee has an entire list composed of Turkish names, which include plenty of options that sound less strictly Turkish; ones I can think of off the top of my head are Leyla, Ada, Lila, Melina, Talia, Yasemin, Sera, Ela, Kamile, Adem, Aydin, Rami, Taner, Aksel, and Kaya. I see no reason why one can't be chosen from them instead of something like Jessica. Or, if you really feel like that doesn't suit you, you could choose an actor such as Alina Boz, who is half Turkish half Russian, and has a Slavic first name to begin with.

Lastly, I am not Turkish myself, but there are people here who are among the RPC (Dee being one of them). And they themselves have said it's disrespectful to play a Turkish fc and not give them a proper name. Unless you are Turkish as well, I don't think it's either of our places to argue against that. Thus, my rules will stay in place as they are.
