I was always such a fan of their umbrella design, to be honest. I was around for the first crossover (got the portraits/frame) but too broke for a skin 🥲 also back then I didn't play Wu Chang cuz he was too difficult to play lol (now it's different, I love playing Wu Chang, love their designs, especially the backstory 🖤🤍 - It fits with the crossover too!) Anyway, I decided to draw some LG doodles, then i forgot about them, but yeah~📸

I had a dream they added fujoshis to IDV and after they updated the game, you’d have to unlock the exit gate by putting in your favourite mlm ship though only one ship would work for each match (if you put in the 'wrong' ship you couldn’t try again, and needed to let someone else try)

kinda amazing how, before today, I was having trouble imagining how a vein and li tianchen meetup would look like. no matter how I sliced it, li tianchen is the most "outsider" of the link click cast — he only has ties to liu xiao and is mostly isolated beyond that. everyone else he's connected to are dead (li tianxi), in jail (qian jin), or aren't prioritizing him or even looking for him lol (photo studio trio). I guess there's officer xiao li, who should be looking for him, but obviously li tianchen would want to avoid that scenario. and also he's not connected to xiao li in a meaningful way like he is with the others. he doesn't give a fuck about xiao li, but he (probably?) feels contempt for lu guang (ymmv), and... idk what he feels for cheng xiaoshi right now lol (consider: cheng xiaoshi took a bullet that could've hit either him or qiao ling + li tianchen acted like he's "playing games" with him early in S2 — maybe it's just to get cheng xiaoshi's powers, sure. I have other thoughts on the xiaoshi-tianchen relationship, I think they're fascinating, but this is not the point of this post lol. next time.)

anyway. all it took was studio lan drawing vein as a fox and suddenly my understanding of both li tianchen and vein has increased so dramatically that I can now imagine a hypothetical scenario where li tianchen meets vein lol. them being both foxes probably isn't that deep but also. you never know.

the way they depict veinxiao vs xiaochen is kinda fascinating from this lens as well. consider these two pictures:

at first I was confused when the first picture came out, because like. I get that veinxiao are also in cahoots with each other and yingdu is the latest season and therefore promotional materials will cater to recency bias. but I couldn't help but wonder why vein is the one depicted with liu xiao like this, and not... li tianchen

anyway. so my perspective so far: liu xiao in the throne (hunter) (calls the shots) with vein as his right hand man (beast) (but the beast can bite back) and despite their roles, they mostly see each other as equals (in the poker picture, vein is also sitting in the table and peering at liu xiao's hands; he's "closer" to the game and more of a participant than xia fei or qiao ling or wang qing)

liu xiao has been depicted as a sorcerer-like figure twice (second pic and in the idv collab) and each time he's paired with li tianchen and li tianchen is not depicted as an equal. in the second picture, li tianchen is depicted as a sort of sorcerer's familiar. the idv collab one is interesting, since idv has the "hunter" and "survivor" factions and, well, you can guess which one is which in the collab

(li tianchen is not in the poker picture, which. sad. he's not in yingdu so whatever. I like to think he's represented by the card liu xiao is hiding inside his left sleeve — a metaphorical "trump card" that he's hiding, but we don't really know what his role is until we get more S3 info, so this is just headcanon territory for now)

it kinda makes me wonder. would li tianchen want to be seen as an equal to liu xiao? (personally, I'm leaning on no, though he enjoys liu xiao treating him as if he can bite back, when he really can't won't). on the flip side, I can't imagine vein settling for anything less than being an equal, though he's probably fine just going along with liu xiao's plans when they're interesting, because he can actually bite back if he really wanted to (I still don't really understand vein's motivations — I have even less of an idea about him than I do of liu xiao)

idk, I just think there's something interesting going on with those three that's quite different from what's going on with liu xiao-lu guang-vein

vein as a fox -> the twins are fox cubs -> vein as a "beast" in liu xiao's beast-hunter metaphor -> li tianchen meets vein and for the first time is confronted with the idea that he doesn't have to be a "hunter" to survive -> li tianchen caught in the ideological tug-of-war between vein and liu xiao -> ultimately decides it doesn't matter which role you have as long as you get to set the forest on fire

caved and made an idv survivor sona/oc. more under cut

the lore is he didnt die when he was supposed to, instead sending him from the modern era to the 1900s (kiiinda like how LG is probably from the modern era). but now coincidences keep trying to kill him final destination style in order to set things right.

he went to the manor during orpheus's coma sabbatical to hide from ox head and horse face. no one believes his story or the effects of the dice, but they do find him unlucky.

Pip has kinda gone down a really weird trail of inspiration/different concepts and designs tbh!

Originally, he was inspired by chimney sweeps! I thought that would be a really interesting concept for both Idv's timeline and overall just interesting to work on. However, I was concepting this back before LG was a thing so my brain almost immediately brushed the lad off as it "Wouldn't make sense for a kid to be in a manor game."

For his more current design, it was more or less a complete character revamp! For this version, I was mainly aiming for a design and concept that could work for him being a more modern character, yet blended in with the lineup of other characters! Which kinda landed in a private school kid who plays fantasy games.

Design-wise, I more or less used a few basic blue uniforms as a reference. Mainly wanting it to look semi-realistic to a school uniform that could exist in the universe. As for his cape, it was inspired by your stereotypical wizard robe, the patches being a small reference to his beta design. I pictured something like this while making it:

Along with this, I wanted to reference the potions seen in the cutscenes of the main game (Belladonna, Siren's Song, etc). So I more or less put them on onto the dnd dice/proof he retrieved from the manor.

Personality-wise, Pip was more or less planned to be very scared, yet curious about the manor. Being planned to more or less reveal that the manor is a bit of an urban legend in his time within the Sands of Time event. This was more or less in hopes to make a drastic difference between his dnd character and himself if he ever played them.

little girl idv is genuinely just so. obnoxious and i honestly dislike little girl mains almost as much as i hate enchantress mains. shes literally worse then enchantress cuz like at least enchantress isnt totally selfish in her abilities!!!!!!!!!

little girls memory leech thing is genuinely a detriment to the team 95% of the time. because all it does is make a teammate a meatshield for little girl which is 1. detrimental to decoding 2. puts all the responsibility on one guy out of nowhere its only helpful if youve just rescued her.

sure memory sync gives you a decodi buff but thats basically useless because IT DOESNT COUNT YOU AS DUO DECODING... aure lg gets callibrations too but she doesnt add progress she just BOOSTS YOURS. one person with a 70% buff isnt as fast as TWO PEOPLE BOTH ADDING PROGRESS AT THE SAME TIME.
