A lot of concepts were represented in #MaproomII, #1965, a #FilmProject directed by artist #RobertRauschenberg. But the one name that grabbed me the most was that of the legendary #MyrnaLoy (1905-1993). #Film, #Stage,& #Television actress. She had one of the longest & most productive careers in the industry. Among her most notable films were #TheThinMan, #LibeledLady, #ManhattanMelodrama, #TheBestYearsOfOurLives, & #ILoveYouAgain, to name but a few. (at SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art)

Movie no. 19: here’s the second movie I watched last night for my #365classicmoviechallenge 😊 I was gonna watch “The Big Street” last night because I really wanted to watch a Lucille Ball film but I couldn’t find it anywhere online so instead I watched the 1946 musical comedy classic “Easy To Wed” starring Van Johnson, Esther Williams, Lucille Ball & Keenan Wynn 😊 This movie is a remake of the 1936 classic film “Libeled Lady” That starred William Powell, Myrna Loy, Jean Harlow & Spencer Tracy 😊 This is Van & Esther’s 3rd Of 5 films they did together. Van Johnson was known as the golden boy of MGM in the mid to late 40s before this he was known in films such as Weekend At The Waldorf, Thrill of A Romance & The “Dr. Kildare” series and after this film would have other big roles like State of the Union, In The Good Old Summertime, Brigadoon & The Last Time I Saw Paris 😊 Esther on the other hand aside from her films with Van Johnson she was known for her swimming/mermaid musicals (due to the fact that she was a professional swimmer) like Bathing Beauty, Million Dollar Mermaid (for which it became her nickname) & Neptunes Daughter but she’s also well known in other roles like Take Me Out To The Ball Game & Fiesta 😊 This is probably Lucille’s last big film that she did in the 40s before moving on to television where she would really shine a few years later with “I Love Lucy” in 1951. Van said in his autobiography “MGM’s Golden Boy” that her character Gladys “reveals the embryo of her Lucy Ricardo role” in other words basically it was probably what inspired her to play Lucy. Van & Lucy would work together again numerous times after this film Van guest-starred as himself in an episode of “I Love Lucy” and they also starred in the 1968 film with Henry Fonda in “Yours, Mine & Ours” The film was a hit at the box office 😊 #classicmovienight #classicmovies #vanjohnson #estherwilliams #lucilleball #keenanwynn #easytowed #libeledlady #classichollywood #oldhollywood
