Sera - Essence Exchange!

Featuring Sera, my Cross, with the Ultra Ceramic Candela II Photon Saber.

This is my first time drawing her with her Definitive Edition end of game gear, and it's changed quite a lot! She had her original gear from the Wii U days for a good portion of the story but then something changed as she grew to love Mira more than before and found a flower she never tried to get before. She still keeps her mismatched sleeves of course!

Story Summary: What would happen if the Crystal Gems had settled down in a place other than Beach City, a little backwoods town just west of weird…? What if, upon coming to Gravity Falls for the summer, Dipper and Mabel were to befriend Steven and Connie? What kind of magical, mysterious adventures would they have? Chapter Summary: After accidentally unleashing a horde of light monsters upon Gravity Falls, its up to Steven, Connie, Dipper, and Mabel to team up to save the day by attacking the light! “Oh, Steven!” Pearl’s voice trilled through the house as she, Garnet, and Amethyst warped in from their latest mission. While Steven had spent much of the morning engrossed in an engaging new RPG, the second the Gems arrived, his controller was tossed aside in favor of greeting them.  “You’re back!” he cheered as he sprinted down from the loft.  “Hello, Steven,” Garnet said. Between her hands, a strange, triangular object hovered, awash in a gentle aura of light. As soon as Steven spotted it, he was captivated. He always was whenever the Gems happened to bring home any mystical relics from their distant, daring quests.  “What’s that?” he asked with an eager, intrigued smile.  “This is an ancient Gem weapon known as a Light Prism,” Pearl eloquently explained. “In the hands of a powerful Gem, it could be used to command an entire army of light!” “Whoa, cool!” Steven exclaimed, stars in his eyes. “Can I see it?” “Oh, no,” Pearl quickly shook her head. “Absolutely not. It’s very dangerous. Well… in the hands of a powerful Gem anyway.” “But in the hands of Steven,” Amethyst shrugged. “Eh, not so much.”

Yk I’m usually pretty judgy about how child-parent characterisation is done, because so often will there be a “She was just like her father in every way” with like one trait from the other parent. Which can be written well I admit. It commonly is. But when I see cases like Adolin and Renarin I get really happy.

They’re both a mix of their parents, in layers. The moment you recognise the Evi in one of them you are also shown the Dalinar. An infinite blend of two people in two different ways, as well as everyone else around them and everything that they themselves are. It’s good characterisation I like it.

also! I like how you drew the lagging mirror with the colored like little outlines? Don’t know what to call it super cool though I like seeing how you interpreted and drew stuff from the books

Oh yeah- the oil slick colors! It's in a few art pieces with Jack specifically. Someone mentioned it months ago and it also stuck with me so now I kinda just have that attached.

Its kinda based on that sort of dark rainbow you get when a sheen of oil or gasoline is on the surface of water and the light hits it just right. Its very trippy and is frankly kinda damaging to everything around it and leaks everywhere and is hard to clean up once it gets spilled. There is something about that which reminds me of Jack and all the weird supernatural stuff as a visual motif.

Sorry I held off answering your ask for a while cuz i was so happy ya like my doodles but didn’t know how to respond…but now I have something

It started out as a doodle to loosen up from an assignment but it turned into a little self indulgent guide on how i usually draw these two…kinda silly hahaah!
