Tonight's elixir is this not-so-simple #cocktail is heavy on rum reaching near-diabeties proportions while I try to clear out the bar. And, if I happen to bartend an event you attend and order this drink... I will beat you down!: Zombie 1.00 oz. light rum 1.00 oz. gold rum 1.00 oz. dark rum 0.50 oz. apricot brandy 1.00 oz. crème de banana (substituted with orgeat syrup) 1.00 oz. pineapple juice 1.00 oz. lemon juice 1.00 oz. lime juice 0.25 oz. grenadine 1.00 tbsp. brown sugar (optional) 0.50 oz. spiced rum floated on top Paired with leftover chicken empanadas. Drank and dined while watching "Dawson's Creek Season 5" on @Hulu. In 1817 on the corner of Monserrate and Obispoi in La Habana, el Floridita originally opened as “La Piña de Plata” (the silver pineapple). It was subsequently renamed “La Florida” and eventually “Floridita”, as itis known today throughout the world. The art of Cuban mixology was born at el Floridita. It is perhaps known as Ernest Hemingway's favorite La Habana bar during the late 1930s - 1959. And the birthplace of the modern daquiri which was created specifically Papa Hemingway.* In 1953 “Esquire” magazine recognized it as one of the 7 most famous bars of the world, and in 1992 the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences awarded it the Best of the Best Five Star Diamond Award as the king (home of) the daquiri. *Contrary to popular belief and nearly every travel guidebook out there, La Bodeguita de el Medio," another bar and restaurant in Havana, is falsely credited as being one of Hemingways favorite Havana bars. Though La Bodegita indeed welcomed artists like Marilyn Monroe And Nat King Cole, it has no connection to Hemingway. Its founding owner, his relatives and former employees of La Bodeguita recalled Hemingway having visited just once. Lalla Rookh

The whole aim of this cocktail is to be exotic, and it succeeds on a few levels. First off, the curious name comes from the romantic poem by Thomas Moore, written in 1817. It is the story of a Persian princess married off to a prince she doesn't know, who has to travel by caravan to the distant palace. Whilst on the journey, she falls for one of the troupe in the caravan. The romance ensues. But back to the drink. A simple blending of rum, cognac and sugar with a little vanilla extract means you have a smooth ice slush that tastes like creamy vanilla without cream. The whipped cream topping accentuates the texture and smell of this cocktail. I really like how the Lallah Rookh doesn't use any fruit juice and relies on the texture and flavor of the spirits to come through.

Cherry Daiquiri

There's not much more to this cocktail than the original Daiquiri, but what a difference it makes. The recipe calls for cherry liqueur, and black cherry Heering fits the bill. There's also a dash .25 tsp. of kirschwasser, which seems unnecessary but adds that dry fug of a clear and strong (and rum-like) brandy to elevate flavors above the expected sweetness.
