Mamika is a brilliant character

I just adore the fact that Mamika, a main character of a magical girl show aimed at preschoolers, is introduced as an antagonist. It’s something that catches you off guard because cmon she’s a magical girl the most pure hero trope possible if you aren’t doing subversion, but it makes so much sense. Because Mamika isn’t from a subverted magical show, she’s a pure blood kiddy Saturday morning special magical girl, she’s on cereal! And the thing with kid shows is that they have a very simple, black and white morality system. Good guys and bad guys are clearly coded and good guys always defeat bad guys in the end. When Altair approaches her and gives her the rundown of the situation, to Mamika it’s very clear who the bad guys are. The creators create worlds where there is fighting and pain and suffering so obviously they are the bad guys and they must be stopped. Black and white.

This is directly contrasted by Selesia and Meteora who come from much more mature narratives with more developed and nuanced morality systems. They hear what Altair has to say and they go ‘You know what I’m gonna check this out for myself before I make a decision’ because they are much more used to the type of character Altair is, the type that is all good words and bad actions so they don’t take her words at their surface level like Mamika does. For them there is a lot of gray areas and they will explore those gray areas and decide themselves are creators bad unlike Mamika who is just ‘They do this thing that is bad -> they are bad’ because again, that’s how it works in her universe. 

But then comes the fight with Selesia.

This doesn’t happen in her world.

In her world, her powers don’t cause pain like this, they don’t make people bleed. They sparkle and they flash and the villain is okay after it, they aren’t hurt seriously, there is no collateral damage. In her world, her powers are cute and relatively harmless. In this world they are bombs. Mamika has JUST been introduced this episode and already she’s getting slapped in the face with the realization: This isn’t like your world, same rules do not apply.

And it’s horrifying to her because she never hurt anyone like this, this simply doesn’t happen in her world, it’s overwhelming and incomprehensible, she doesn’t know what to do or how to react to this situation that literally ripped her understanding of the world to shreds.

She tries to go back to the script, to get Selesia on her side by talking to her, but Selesia sets her straight.

You can’t wave force around and hurt people and then demand they go along with the friendly ‘lets talk it out’ script. You have to make up your mind, you can’t threaten force and expect people to comply. This isn’t how this world works. This is a complicated world with complicated decisions. Your enemies won’t just agree to do as you say when you bonk them on the head with your magical wand. This is a world where people aren’t simple, understanding and ready to commodify you because you are the protagonist. This is a world where people are complex, they will challenge your thoughts and decisions and you need to decide how will you respond to them. Will you continue using force or will you yourself walk down the pacifism path first.

Mamika still doesn’t understand this because her morality is simple. In her show you defeat a villain and then they agree to do better aka they agree to do what you want them to do because you are the protagonist and you are always in the right. She literally isn’t equipped to handle a situation like this, she’s falling apart at the seems, she’s crying, she doesn’t know what to do so she resorts to her usual script and attacks Selesia again.

This is still in the heat of the moment, she’s mostly reacting, overwhelmed by new information that so strongly clashes with everything she knows with no chance to properly process it. This is all her introduction and god what and A+ introduction of such a fascinating character, she has an arc to go through and you can already see where it leads.

YES YES yor is my fave oml shes so cool and when she was getting insecure abt being a good mother to anya i was like noOO T^T ur doing amazing sweetie !!!! the whole gag where each of the family has a hidden secret is so endearing to watch !! since they all almost spill the beans to each other so many timeS :D !! im glad its getting more popular lately and yes im so hyped for the possible anime too !!! ig i have a specific type of show that i rlly like considering how noragami has rlly nice found family moments too as well as comedy w/ action as well !! oh n i read the first few chapters of shadows house and its already p interesting so far !! im already invested hhh !!! as soon as someone says 'interesting chars' i get interested right away so !! and oh okay !! ill just list a few things ive been watching... recently it would be yuukoku no moriarty + bakuten and for cartoons it'd be the owl house and infinity train (specifically season 2 being my fave since its an anthology series, its really interesting as well and a quick watch since its only 10 eps and theyre short ones too !!) which i also rlly recommend if u havent watched them !! and also why would i laugh at viola??? thats so cool and its such a pretty instrument too !!!!!! ;v; i was always jealous when i did music in school bc the few students who did the viola just looked so elegant and professional ?? and i could tell they were hardworkers .. meanwhile i have a tendency to slouch over the piano which is not good :''D plus i bet viola is hard to learn right ?? (im glad u think im not rambling btw !! <3 i need to scream at someone abt how good spy x family is haha)

YESS OMG like!!! that one chapter where yor goes "I'M HER MOTHER!!!" after they think she's anya's maid,, your honor she is officially Mother now she said it and we heard it 😌 omfg the gag is like literally SO funny like did u see the latest chapter recently?? 😂 anya's like "omg dad will find out mom's an assassin AND that she hates frogs!!!!" she has her priorities straight. i love her to death 🥰 and can't get over loid's "omg... this child... she NEEDS love and support. i will now buy the entire store's clothes to make her happy" LIKE. as for the anime... i'm so excited for them to do the first few arcs, i hope they include the little side chapters too like where they go to the aquarium and stuff!! :D OHH so glad you like shadow house so far!!! and yes dflgjfh interesting characters is very much a checklist for this manga, esp with the whole concept of like having a shadow self and etc!! :D i dont know if you've met him yet, but my favorite character is john!! he'll come early on in the manga i think :) and lemme know how the rest of the series goes for you!! 💕 AAH i haven't heard of the animes you've recommended but now that means i've got a list to watch!! :D i'll definitely try to check them out when i get the chance ehehe! also i haven't heard of owl's house but i have heard that infinity train is like so good it's to die for fdk;hg 💕so maybe i've gotta give those a chance as well! kfgjhg i'm so happy with your kindness towards violas, we don't get enough of it aaaa!! :') we're like literally always the butt of the joke ldghkg; it's not too much harder to learn compared to violin or cello i'd imagine, but oh boy,, the heaviness of carrying a big viola on your shoulder all day :') i guess piano and viola are back pain solidarity! however, i still gotta say learning piano is just soo versatile, like i'm sure you can just p much transcribe most pieces into it!! for viola, it's really hard to find music from games / animes etc so i was just always a bit disappointed about it :'(

First of all, I fucking M I S S Haikyuu!! Finished the manga and now waiting for season 5 that is said to air late 2021. First anime that got me obsessed. Honestly, pls go watch Haikyuu!! it's such a fun anime and is my all time favourite series.

Do I simp over 2d men who play volleyball? Yes. Is that gonna change? Probably not.

The characters? Fucking loveable and the dynamics are so good. You got the dynamic between setter and spiker, the leaders of each team of the a haikyuu series (mostly the major 5 teams) and the dynamic between each team and the team members. Its so chaotic but really wholesome at the same time because they're like a mini family you watch grow and- words cannot describe how much I love the teams. It just makes me soft 🥺🥺🥺

The anime fucking slaps. The matches feels so intense and so hype. IG productions really doing the most. The way they animate some of the matches is p h e n o m e n a l and keeps you at the edge of your seat the entire time. They've translated the manga so well into the anime and it's done with so much care (minus s4 pt2, ep2. That was a curse. We don't talk about it).

The manga? So good! You get the dynamic scenes and you also get the fun panels where the characters are drawn in a way that makes them kind of derpy. It's such a unique style too that it is so recognisable. So much life to it.

And the MUSIC. THANK YOU TO SPYAIR AND BURNOUT SYNDROME FOR WRITING ABSOLUTE BANGER OPENINGS AND ENDINGS. There are other bands that did some of Haikyuu!! Ops and endings, the two aforementioned bands made over half the openijgs and endings. There wasn't one that I disliked and listening to each opening and ending throughout the anime series makes me again, very soft. Also bless Asami Tachibana and Yuki Hayashi for scoring the anime. The ost is just too good and I always imagine certain scenes when certain tracks come up on my Spotify queue.

Haikyuu!! legitimately got me so invested that I do kind of wanna learn to play volleyball. In theory, I know how to play thanks to Haikyuu!! also teaching me a bit of vball. Got me so invested that I bawled my eyes out at the end of season 4 part 2. Especially when the very first opening came back. God I c r i e d watching that final EP.

At some point I want to draw fanart to pay homage to the anime/manga series that has sourced my serotonin and has given me so much joy. Still wanna paint a denim jacket with Haikyuu manga panels but after I get a couple more paychecks lmao. Also wanna collect all the manga. God that'd be nice to have the manga physically.

I guess my only con is I kinda wished the fandom would just calm the fuck down. Literally Kenma was "cancelled" on twitter for a single line he said in the manga (avoiding spoilers it wasn't eve that bad of a line?), some of the headcanons are a tad problematic. The fucking piss kink that made its rounds at some point. I wish I could've unsaw that. I just hope that the fandom (mostly the newer fans) learn to goddamn behave themselves.

All in all, cannot wait for Haikyuu!! season 5 and I cannot wait to see my boys again. I miss the series so much and I think about them a lot

What is your season 4 wishlist? Karedevil (duh!) glowing at its fullest in EVERY sense of the word. Marci and Karen being friends, Marci and N, M & P working together. Lots and lots of N, M & P. Marci and Foggy getting married. Foggy and Matt being badass lawyers. More trials, please. Bullseye, of course. There has to be an amazing villain. Ellison figuring out Matt’s identity but keeping it secret obviously. The Defenders finding out Matt’s alive. A little cameo would be cool too, especially JJ. An all the DD awesomeness that I can’t come up with but Erik O and all the genius writers can. I want the show back!!!!

What is your favorite thing about Karedevil? Jesus, this is the most difficult question! The slow burn, the fact that they are so similar, both broken, flawed, stupid, lonely yet they’d give their lives for the people they love. The angst, the awkwardness, ALL THE FREAKING SPARKS whenever they’re together. Their friendship. How they have helped each other, their arguments, all the softness and how sexy they are together. Their whole arc S1 all the way to S3. I could continue here, but I think you get the idea ;-)

How many Karedevil WIPs do you have? Hahahaha! I am cracking up at this question! Hey, kudos to whoever came up with this one. I have approximately 14 *facepalm*

What are your favorite creations that you’ve done and why?

Reveal(s) - I loved writing this one because of how I had to get in their heads in this hard moment of their relationship (Matt’s confession) and it was inspired by a dear friend’s comment and love for the flashback scene. Plus, angst.

Steps - This one was fun to write because it was supposed to be a one-shot and then a friend prompted me to go on with step 2 and then this happened. It was fun to get in their heads during the rebuilding of their relationship in S3.

12 Midnight - I was suffering writer’s block after the cancellation and had no idea how I would write the secret Santa fic for which I had already signed up because I was so down. With the encouragement/help from some friends, this happened. It’s my longest fic so far and the whole process of writing it was very fun. And my secret Santa liked it which is even more important.

Do you have any advice for other creators? Enjoy the process. Have fun. It doesn’t matter if your idea is not the most original one. Create it anyway. It will be your own way. Find at least one friend you can share your work with beforehand if you’re not sure. Trust me, it’s amazing how helpful and encouraging people in this squad can be. We all love kudos and comments, but that’s not the purpose of this. It’s for fun. And if YOU and at least one more person liked it,  then it was all worth it (And most of the time, a lot of people like it). Yes, I am giving this advice to myself too.

What do you look for in a story? Truth to its characters. I could say a lot more, but I think that sums it up.

Is there something else you’d like from your squad? I’m not on Tumblr or any social media anymore, I’m very in the background, but please know that I miss you all a lot <3 Thanks for keeping the squad going! :)

What are your favorite kinds of prompts: I don’t really have much experience with prompts. What I love to write the most is canon compliant stuff, whether it is things we didn’t get to see in the show or things we could see in the show, if that makes sense. Other than that, anything that comes to my mind. Maybe someday I’ll get creative and write an AU or something like that. 

How do you come up with ideas for creations? Wow. Tough question. From the show. From whatever comes to my mind. Songs. Random quotes. Even gifs have inspired me. Ideas come from everywhere, really. 

What is a fun fact about yourself? I watched the show I think in Feb 2018. I joined Tumblr just so I could see all the nice KD posts that I found on Google which happened to be shortly before the Karedevil Week in August and was FANTASTIC. Met two amazing girls on Twitter who happened to be creators and were also on Tumblr. Then I opened an AO3 account just so that I could subscribe to my favorite authors and bookmark fics. Started interacting with more KD squad members through posts. The S3 hype was HIGH! Ended up writing my first fic inspired by the coffin scene in S3 and I haven’t stopped ever since, although I have had many writer’s block periods ever since the show was cancelled (I barely slept that night). I also have met more incredible people. Bottom line: DD and Karedevil have a very special place in my heart.

How many times do you think you’ve watched the show(s): I don’t know! Not because I’ve seen it so many times, unfortunately (I wish I had the time!), but because for sure it’s only once (generally speaking), BUT I did rewatch S1 almost entirely, and S3… Oh my God… I’ve written a lot of fics based on S3 so I don’t know how many times I’ve rewatched some of the episodes. S3 EP1, S3 EP6 (My very favorite to write about), OBVIOUSLY S3 EP11 (<3), EP 12 and EP 13 are the ones I’ve see the most. Do all the videos from the show on YouTube count? LOL Seriously, with all of that plus the gifs that refresh my memory, and all the meta and endless articles I’ve read, I honestly feel like I’ve seen it a hundred times.

1: Boku No Hero Academia - character develoment? check. Non-neglecting of side characters? check. Bomb af graphics? double check. Loveable best boy? yep yup. Great fandom that collectively hates Mineta? yesh

2: Diamond no Ace - sports anime that actually shows the struggles of different teams? yesss. epic scenes that are so great it could be a meta anime but it still retains the basic functions of baseball? huehue double yes. the mc is such a ball of energy and genuinely wants to be the Ace and has so much development as a character that you honestly start wanting him to get that number? yes yes yes yes yes

3: Nichijou - one of the greatest work anime has produced. really its so effing hilarious and it really pinpoints the things everybody does in everyday life. like flip a police officer for mistakenly confiscating your boys love manga. accidentally stabbing your thumb with a mechanical pencil, the struggles of ordering at Starbucks or even..

4: Magi - a smol baby boy tryna bring peace to the world? check. fucking strong girl that can beat any kind of wild beast there is? heck yeah! magic? yup. loads of backstory that actually makes sense and relates to the arcs? checkity check. villiains that really arent villains and good guys that truly are the bad guys? ho boi yessss. a magical recorder? you got it. also the graphics are great

5: Mob Psycho 100 - another smol baby boy just tryna navigate middle school. blessed with amazing psychic powers but powerless in terms of popularity and friendships. truly such a great anime that teaches a lot of moral stuff and has A M A Z I N G fight scenes. our boy mob is such a freaking god and the art style is very different but so expressive 10/10 would recommend

6: Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou - [Daily Lives of High School Boys] like nichijou, this is another anime that is at the height of comedy gold. every episode is such meme worthy. the main protag really isnt the main protagonist, so many puns, great side characters, and i cant express how much of a feel good anime this is

7: Bakemono no Ko - okay this is a movie. and when i say this is such a fascinating movie, i mean it. this really smol boy gets adopted by a bear after he runs from home. this big bad bear™ is actually so pure and best dad. the uncles are great and so punny i cant. okay, they also have some really epic sword fights.. i really cant explain this movie without giving spoilers lmao but go watch it if you want, you wont regret it

8: Hunter x Hunter - young fisher-boy and young assassin-boy walk into a hunter exam together, who survives? friendship.. and the newly acquired dads they found along the way [honestly go watch it, i was skeptical at first but i never loved anything more in my life] also the arcs are so monumental, really great plot and friendship!!

9: Yuri On Ice!!! - edgy ice skating and gay couples that reaffirm what love is? check. little smol bean yurio tryna act all mighty and tough? yep. amazing soundtrack? heck yeahh! great characters that in no way hate on homosexuals? you got it. amazing graphics? best boys? well dang, you got it!

10: Shokugeki no Soma - food. food. food wars. great scenes that have food giving you orgasms? basically a sports anime but about food? great mc that really deserves all the love he gets. when they tie a bandana on their forehead, shit is about to get started. food. food. food wars.

11: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - as i write this, i cry. this was so good and i was wary of watching it bc there was/is so much hype around it but alas IT WAS SOO GOOD I CANT. like two brothers? amazing morals? the fact that nothing is as it seems? kickass female characters. alchemy. the hype is real with this one, but its so worth it and i 10/10 would lower you down FMA hell.

12: Katekyo Hitman Reborn! - [also known as Reborn!] i found this by mistake and my life really hasnt been the same. mafia story. first few eps are just comedic and really dont tell you jack shit about the storm thats coming afterwards. holy heck, a main character that set standards for how to demolish your enemies? friendship! fight scenes that make you wanna fite anyone? so many powers that actually make sense? checkity check. friendship!!

13: Bungou Stray Dogs - hidden powers that main character doesnt know about? check. good dad dazai. another mafia story. a mafia boy tryna kill the mc because of his powers and dazai has become mc’s dad instead of his [okay i’m trolling lmao] but really this is a great mafia anime. theories. villainous characters that have been blackmailed into being bad.. really it has it all

14: Haikyuu!! - small chibi boy just wants to play volleyball in peace. “i can jump™” meets skyscraper black-haired blue-eyed god who rules the court. [trollingg] but honestly, this has to be one of the most accurate sports anime i’ve watched. spiky main and side characters that are completely adorable and its kinda hard not to get sucked in, but you will

15: Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! - gamer dude dies [by mistake] and on his way to the afterlife, he’s given a chance by a goddess to go to another world and defeat the demon king. grants him the possibility of taking any one thing to this new world, my guy picks the goddess [fukin dead] and whoops there ya go lmaoo. but no honestly, its great and funny and the explosion/action scenes are beyond E P I C. also best girl, Megumin, is there so you should def check it out

Hello! It’s your CSSV :) OMG now I imagine Killian singing Sweet child o’mine and I’m melting. Oh I wish something like that would happen. That ep could be either great or horrendous, it scares me haha. BUT A&E seem to have good tastes in music (well according to my preferences :p I like classic rock/alternative) so there’s that. I saw your post about getting drunk to watch the episode, I did that for the S5 finale because I knew it would be bad,

(2/3)but I drank too much rum n’ coke so the day after I had absolutely no memory of the second hour...oops! So my advice: don’t drink too much because you don’t wanna have to rewatch it sober :p I’m excited for the Jen and Colin panel at Atlanta, but 6x11 is going to be spoiled, I'm not thrilled about that. It’s so weird that they’re screening it a month earlier, I want to think that’s because it’s got way more Emma/CS/Killian scenes

My sister has watched up to the fifth season and was pretty disappointed with how the show turned out, and she freaked out when I told her there may be a musical episode. She told me that if it’s worth laughing at it she’ll watch it. I will definitely drink a bit before watching it myself, but omg I’ll have to be careful! As you said, it would be unfortunate to forget the whole episode, and to be honest my drink of choice was going to be rum and coke, so I guess I’ll have to make sure the actual alcohol quantity won’t be too much :P

I’m glad for the panel mostly because we’ll get more pics of Colin and Jen and I just love seeing them working together and being happy for that :) Are you going there? Despite myself I am hoping there are more CS scenes in 6x11 with both of them being more like the Emma and Killian we know. The way they were trying to batch things up and calm down all the distraught fans after 6x10 says something, and I hope they do a decent job talking about them in the panel. Isn’t that the first time Colin will be in such a panel? It’s weird and I do want to hope that the episode itself may do its own job fixing most of the wrongs of 6x10.

Lol I also doubt they’re ever gonna give Killian a job. He’s technically a sort-of deputy (with Snow and Regina and Henry and Belle as well) but I guess he’s still paying with dubloons :P It would be nice for the show to once sit down and explain how things work in Storybrooke exactly but I doubt that will ever happen.

I didn’t have many things to do today, so I just mostly stayed in bed being lazy, and of course my cat jumped up to lie with me and I gave him lots of nuzzles! Give one to yours for me too
